What finally fixed it for me was to put silicone on the threads of the pipe that are under the big rubber gasket all the way until the cutout in the pipe. I used my finger to make sure the silicone was deep into the threads. No more leaks.
Hope this works. Try again tomorrow. Installed new vanity and it's leaking at threads. I've redone it about 30 times. I finally got really frustrated and took a nap
Mine too...and the plumber I hired didn't notice this...now I have to wait for him to come back and fix it...first plumber I have had leave a job with things leaking (first time trying this plumber)
There are other sites saying to use silicone, plumbers putty mixed with a little plumbers paste and bingo baby.I'm 57 plumbing for 42 years putty and paste is the way
I have a question? Pretty please This looks like my sink. (cultured marble) how come water stands my the sink top flange drain????? You know that indention.
Mine is leaking from the big washer under the sink at the drain, I will try the plumbers putty again and not over tighten it, so it is dripping from metal nut at the threads, it has a thin rubber washer that goes above the drain between the sink and the drain tube on top so I will add plumbers putty pull it down from underneath, I've been dealing with this for several days, I do have a pop up type and overflow so it has the holes in it, I just line it up any help would be appreciated!
So if I hired a plumber to install a p trap and drain and connect the basin drain to this...and the next day found it leaking should I have to pay for the plumber to come back and fix it? The toilet supply leaks where the hose meets the supply coming in and he also just cranked it as tight as he could...it still leaks...so should I have to pay for that too?
His assembly leaks though. Compare 2:12 to 2:18 and you will see clearly drops of water on dark blue pipe closer to the strainer which weren't there before. I mean...if the demo leaks...
Actually, it does. His is leaking even when the stopper is closed. That means he has to redo both the plumbers putty underneath the drain flange as well as the seal underneath the sink.
So true, he has a sound method because it worked 2 weeks ago in my first Moen job, did exactly what he does but I had to use Teflon tape just below the overflow holes, that’s where the water gets in, not past the flange
Been plumbing for 23 years. Modern connections in a cabinet should never have Teflon. Nothing requires Teflon in a cabinet. Please stop telling people this. Teflon is not magic. And it causes tension on the nut which then will restrict the nut from doing it’s intended job. Throw an example at me. But research it first and see if any engineer advises Teflon on any part for plumbing in a cabinet. Compression fittings?. NO. Slip joint connections? No. Pop up drain? (Seriously?) NO. what next? Crimp solder or expand ? Nope. Where does Teflon fall in modern plumbing? Nominal pipe thread male and female connections only. Where else? If you mention any other modern plumbing part? Ive prolly figured out why you can’t warranty plumbing. I have to hide the crap from my dad. Every time he calls and can’t get a connection right. It’s got a wad of Teflon on it. He swears he seen it on RUclips. I spend 10 minutes cleaning teflon. then fix it in 10 seconds. I can’t make him stop finding you tube channels. Find one and believe that channel. No two plumbers ever agree. Hands down the single most debated skilled trade. But Teflon should be left in the male and female drawer never to be seen till a male or female npt needs made. And pliers should be turned in the correct direction to do their job properly.
After 5 years of screaming at my new work manager. Turn the pliers the right way if you want other mechanics respect. Pipe dope on rubber bevel will save a many headaches also.
What kind of plumbers puddy do you kneed ? This Mr. I know what I'm doing Put plumbers puddy on the drain Every time you turn the hot water on the puddy comes out from the seal in the sink and brakes off now the drain moves It has ben leaking in a BUCKET Diden't they use to have a rubber gasket to go in the sink the drain set on and the one under the sink to hold it from the other side no puddy needed ?
Yes. Put something slick on the rubber and leave threads naked. This is not a Teflon connection. Then the nuts job is to shove the rubber up in hole. The skinny washer job is to let nut slide easily on rubber so nothing gets bound up. The rubber bevel job is to seal off water getting into overflow passage. Normally the drain collar is flexible enough to seal by itself but I do always use a little putty. No it can’t get back into drain. Yes the warm water softened it. But you simply used too much. Try slicking the bevel washer up. Turn pliers the correct way but do not squeeze the pliers. Just let the teeth catch and remember you slicked things up. Don’t overtighten. I can usually do these with my hand tight, my way.
Why is this stupid drain part always a problem. We've had indoor plumbing for 200 years. Still have to fix my leaky drain every 6 months to a year once the shit putty wears away.
Thanks for explaining how plumber's putty works...that was the insight I needed
Thank you so much for sharing this. It was so frustrating to get this fixed.
Your video was very helpful almost gave up until I watched your video. Plumbing is more finesse than strength

Well, were you able to finally fix it yourself?
@@bman99ss yup!
Clear silicone works better. Won’t stain or leave any residue if it needs replacement in the future.
After 4 days of viewing other videos🤦
This was the secret the entire time?
You're a lifesaver
+1 on clear silicone instead of plumber's putty. Other biggie: make sure p trap is not pushing or pulling on drain tube, which will cause it to leak.
Great ideas for a beginner like myself. Thank you for the information.
Could celicone be used as plumbers putty?

Gene Good presentation

Made It Very Simple To Understand... 🙏🏾
Great detailed video thank you! Watching at 2 am found a small leak right there ! Wow I was doing it all wrong hahaha thank you!

Most helpful, thanks.
Thank you very much. Good work¡¡
It's called plummer mate in the UK
This technic work only on the wash bowl without over flow.
Very helpful. Thank you and God bless you.
How much time it takes to complete dry

Hi Cindy, probably a bit late on this, but no, you shouldn't have to pay a dime extra to have the plumber complete the job you already paid them to do
So much yes!!
Or use rubber washers in combination with silicon? A decent kit will have two washers supplied, one for the top and one for the bottom.
Thanks for sharing video clip
👍👍

If your sink has an overflow chamber like yours does, the seal on the bottom of the flange has nothing to do with a leak at the bottom.
Actually, it does. His is leaking even when the stopper is closed. That means he has to redo both the plumbers putty underneath the drain flange as well as the seal underneath the sink.

2:02 that is a genova p trap from the 1970s. it is way too deep.
Good
no silicone using P tarp tap

That doesn't work
plumbers putty shouldnt be used on plastic. says right on the tub. it contains chemicals that will weaken plastic
Mind blown lololol
