Thank you so much for this video! I managed to replace my kitchen sink basket myself - saved a lot of time and glad we dealt with the issue as soon as it started as a slow drip. I appreciate you so much!
Glad I could help. Maybe you could help me out by subscribing? If everyone I helped on this video alone subscribed I would have over a million subscribers.
This is how to do a DIY video... straight to the point without a long intro, the shopping list... and the fact you sped up the film. So often I speed up playback because I don't want to waste time watching some guy doing the obvious and mundane stuff of his repair. THIS is how videos like this should be done. Another youtube video demonstrating this same repair took 17 minutes! Subscribed...
I just want to say THANK YOU!! I went to Home Depot to get the supplies which only costed about $25 total! This saved me soooo much koney and I have NO MORE LEAKS! GOD BLESS YOU!!
Thank you! I am a 53 year old homeowner who does all her own repairs. This saved me oodles of dollars NOT calling a plumber to repair my bathroom sink drain. Many Blessings!
i'm a female that does her own repairs too..i've seen in some videos that that use tape around the threads..should that be done? or will it cause problems? need to do this asap..obviously.
Just fixed this problem thanks to your video. I've never done any plumbing in my life, and you made all of it completely accessible and easy to understand. Sincere and heartfelt thank you's for providing such content.
You're the BEST teacher! I really appreciate this video...no diagrams needed just actual videos of the step by step...You rock my friend! You give us both...
Thank you very much! Saved quite a bit of money by doing the repair myself and not calling a plumber like I usually do. Total cost of repair: $6.44 for the kit + putty.
Thank you thank you! I was worried I could not do this myself. Found this video and bam! Trip to Lowe’s got the parts and fixed it myself!!! Thank you so much!!
Thank You!!!!! This lady was able to follow what you did, to fix my kitchen sink! You have saved Christmas for my kids, don't know about the plumbers kids tho :)
Just wanted to say how well this video is edited! I've been through so many other DIY videos which either don't speed things up and take forever to watch, or they don't explain or teach very well what they are doing or give useful advice while they're working. I hope you make lots more of these type videos and keep up the good work.
As a beginner watching this, with little-to-no plumbing experience (beyond using a toilet plunger), I wish the video _didn’t_ cut around so fast ... I agree that watching somebody screw a nut for 45 seconds can be excessive & annoying, but I think there’s a happy medium between that, and editing it like a music video, haha. :)
Your video saved the day, today, again! And, it saved me some money, no doubt. Bought the special wrenches, a new basket, and plumber putty. Total investment,
Great video, well done. I don't tighten mine quite as much as you did, I don't want to squeeze too much of the putty out. The putty is the seal, if you overtighten until metal on metal then the seal is lost. Thanks for making this video.
This is an OUTSTANDING video!🤗❤️ Tysm!! For the fast motion and excellent instructions. Too many vids on repairs have the narrator talking WAY TOO MUCH instead of just getting straight to the point. You sir deserve some applause 👏👏👏👏
Thank you for this video. I have a leaky sink and will try this. I will most definitely subscribe as I am having to become my own handyman a lot these days. I love that you describe only what's necessary and the video does fast motion. :-)
Emily May Thanks for the words of encouragement (and subscribing)! Good luck! PS: I think we all have to be our own handyman a lot these days - that's why I share the skills I've learned.
FINALLY! I just needed the order of the parts because I couldn't figure out why things weren't going together right. The chalkboard diagram saved my sanity. It shouldn't have been this hard. I've done plenty of bathrooms but my Kitchen sink was driving me nuts. Two different basket with different thread sizes didn't help .. one just was a poor design. Brass nuts deteriorated. aaaahh.
Thank you for a great video (the speedy scrubbing made me laugh out loud!) If I can do the little jobs myself, I keep my property in good shape and only bother my landlord for the major repairs. Without your help and advice (& the knowledge on whether it's a job I can do properly) I'd be stuck. Big thanks!
The video was both filmed and narrated very clearly. Well done! My only question is: will the putty seal tear (and maybe leak) if you allow the strainer to turn a little when you are tightening the basket nut with the wrench, as I see happening at 2:25?
(I'm Mrs R Goodson) Thank u, thank u, thank u for this vid! Gifts to my hubby are usually ME learning/doing what are considered "man" jobs & these instructional vids are the absolute best! Thanks again & keep em coming.
I could see where the leak was coming from on my sink but I didn't really know what it was. Your video was incredibly thorough, and I really appreciate the anatomical depiction of the sink at the end. Now, when I go to the hardware store, I can look for a tophat gasket, instead of wandering the plumbing aisle like a moron hoping a knowledgeable staff person who understands what "thingy" means will save me.
@@repairs101 Now all I have to do is fix mine. Can you recommend some type of spray to stop the leak. My Plumbing is old I'm afraid to break something. Thanks Keith
@@KTHKUHNKK I'm afraid any quick fix will amount to a band-aid on a boat. Spray down all joints with penetrating oil several times before disassembly. Use a torch to warm the couplings on stubborn metal pipes. Keep a fire extinguisher on hand. Good luck!
Great video! I agree with everyone else, you did a great job explaining everything in plain terms that were easy to understand and easy to follow. Do you happen to have a link to the basket strainer assembly kit that you used? I couldn't find it anywhere in the video or comments section. Thanks again for a great video.
Thanks for the help. I only needed to know what to tighten and where, which I spotted in the intro section. I kept watching though because I appreciate your efforts to make a fun entertaining video., it was a good video. subscribed.
Thoughts on using Silicone instead of putty? The putty seems to need to be redone every 5-10 years. Haven't had a drain with silicone need replacement yet.
Video was good, but I am curious why you didn’t use the right sink strainer meant for that size opening. I can see your sink strainer is very small and off center. That’s not what I’m used to seeing in a kitchen sink, as a contractor myself.
Hi. I like your technique for contouring the plumbers putty and using the small putty knife to remove the excess. If I may make one comment/request for feedback - I always use pipe thread sealant around the threads which seals the connection between the top hat gasket and the nut connecting to the tailpiece. Without using the sealant, there are almost always leaks. Noticed that you did not use any sealant.
Just installed the basket strainer on our new country sink and its leaking under the basket strainer. I checked the instructions and no where did is say to use some silicon or plumbers putty? Did they just assume that everyone knew that? Should I take it apart and use some silicone or plumbers putty to seal the basket strainer to the sink?
Have you ever had a top hat gasket that seemed to be too big, restricting water flow? The top hat gasket that came with my brand new stainless steel sink is rubber and fits inside of the drain pipe perfectly, but seems to block quite a bit of the strainer's already small openings, resulting in occasionally slow drainage that is not caused by a blockage in the drain itself.
I’ve noticed with time that the fittings below the trap work loose due to the heat and cold of water exiting through the drain. One solution to this is to use Teflon tape on the fittings
