i am realy dis; that you did not show us how you got the rear diff; to stay on when you go 4 wheeling and than turn it off afther you are done 4 wheeling i have a 2011 ford escape lxt already all wheel drive but would of like to see it .
Do you need a relay in the wiring? I’d like to do this to my 2011 escape, I can’t find you video on how you did it, I think I can figure it out. Sounds simple enough. Thanks.
Friend, I watched your videos, but I did not find in them how you connected the solenoid of the four-wheel drive clutch. Did you just apply +12 volts to the clutch solenoid or did you make a PWM modulator? Also where did you apply this voltage? Did you remove the wire from the clutch and directly apply voltage to it, or did you find where you can apply voltage in the passenger compartment of the car? I just have a 4WD Escape and I'm looking for a way to block the 4WD with a button. Thanks in advance for your reply!
You're right I never did show that. Perhaps I can add a video. I ran 12v from the battery with a fused wire. The wire goes to a relay with a switch then straight to the solenoid on the rear differential. So there is no PWM controller and I simply flip a switch by my right knee when I need 4wd. It works very well.
@@PaintedSpringsGarage Thanks a lot for your answer! You really helped me a lot! If you have the time and opportunity to make this video please do it, I know that I am not the only one who is looking for such a button for forced blocking of the all-wheel drive. @@PaintedSpringsGarage oh wow that is pretty cool then !! I just got a 2012 v6 escape with the 4 wheel drive. It’s pretty cool to see this truck getting some play in the dirt. Seems like you don’t see too many off road videos with them
I wired power to the rear differential coupling straight from the battery through a fuse, relay and switch. Escapes with factory 4wd have a module that controls the coupling by pulse width modulating 12v. With a switch I can nearly lock the coupling in when I want 4wd.

I have a 2001 4WD and it is great. I am older now, so I don't do hardcore mudding anymore. It behaves great through grass, sand, and dirt. If I were you, I would sell the 2008 FWD and replace it with a 2001-2006 4WD. It will cost you less than replacing the transmission and turn it to 4WD.

Hello and thanks for watching! It was a big project to convert the Escape to 4wd and many parts had to be replaced, such as the transmission. I have a series of videos showing the process, so you can watch them.

I know, right?! I sure could have used a front recovery point when I took it off road with only front wheel drive. You should check out that video if you haven't watched it already.
could of just bought a 4wd one for all that work. and after all that you didnt bother to lvl off the front. sure as hell doesnt have "bigger" tires on it. thats the stock look dude lmao

Very cool!
And good camera work!
Hey, I’m just curious why you never covered how you wired the solenoid for the rear differential
LOL...LOVE IT............Just a Mazda Tribute 2008 3.0 V6 (SAME AS FORD ESCAPE) owner...........And looks fun your experiment.....

Which tire size you fit? And any modifications done for this?

Can you do a snorkel install video on the Ford escape XLT I love the snorkel look on trucks but I never seen a Ford escape with one on it
Maybe some day I will install a snorkel. The next thing on my list is front recovery points and possibly a winch.
It makes me curious what my bone stock 09 Escape XLT 4wd can do on the trail? 🤔
There's one good way to find out!
I would say so before I modded my 08 XLT 4wd escape it could do pretty well as long as you know what you're doing.

I have a all-wheel drive 4 wheel drive 2019 Ford escape that should be able to do that right if I I never had one of these before
That connector the rear diff is two wires, correct? If so, you put 12 volts to one wire and ground to the other wire?
That's right.
Is there anything i can do to have my 2010 awd hybrid rev up a little more offroad? The cvt barely pulls itself uphill
Awesome! Looked like a lot of fun,
Have you explored using ForSCAN to activate transmission module function to power the rear diff engagement unit and the transmission slip?
I installed a toggle switch to fully engage the rear diff. That makes it more predictable when I need 4wd.
@@PaintedSpringsGarage its to bad you did not show us how you did that
A few people have asked about that now, so I'll put together a video showing how I did the wiring.

Want to do it to mine as well, any updates?
What type of differential did you use for the 4WD? I assume you don't have the computerized traction control that the original 4WD Escapes have.
I used the Escape rear differential, but ran 12 volts to it with a switch instead of using the factory 4wd computer controller.
