Yeah that's what I thought. I feel like Hit wanted the cube to travel to other universes so he can become stronger. I don't think Hit expected that he would GROW so much in the fight with Goku. He didn't realize how strong Goku was, and how strong he would become.

Hit throwing the fight was one of the best part of the episode man. He got what he wanted all along just from that one fight. To improve and get stronger. He learned that by fighting opponents stronger than him he could accomplish that. Plus he wanted to show Champa that he wasn't a pawn. And you forgot to mentioned that stare that both Goku and Hit gave Champa. Freaking awesome episode.

I think Hit throwing the fight made some sense, I mean, he clearly had respect for goku, and I think him throwing the fight, was a sign of respect in a way to goku, hit at that moment, really didn't care about winning, or getting the cube, in the end, it was more of a fun battle for him, that's my thoughts

Hit threw the right because something happened that he didn't expect; he gained respect for another fighter there. Goku pushing him to further evolution with his strength and striving for the best fight possible with his rule elimination request caused Hit to find something of a kindred spirit in Goku. When Goku threw the fight, I think he was inspired to do the same because he realized that they both really wanted the same thing and weren't going to get it in the tournament setting; he was tired of being a pawn... ~_~

I came back to listen to this review 2 years after this episode aired. I still remember what i was doing and how my life was when this episode first came out. Nothing but good memories from this time.
Hit's a true gentleman imo. Man! He purposely lost against monaka considering what goku did to realize and make hit change his ways.
This proves that any person can change after meeting goku :)
Hit is now my favorite character in Dragon Ball, we got to see some good character development with this guy. ALSO I wanna say that i think Goku's personality has changed the way Hit looks at things.

What about the whole being just a gods pawn thing? I think one of the reasons Hit threw the fight is because he was tired of how Champa treated him, so he stepped down to score him off. The other reason is just that he respected Goku. Goku did chage his way of thinking (like he did with many opponents already) and showed him that ge can improve when fighting strong opponents. He even said "now we are even" in the end which pretty much implies it was due to respect and as a response to Gokus surrendering. Hit may be an assassin, but he isn't nescecarely a bad or evil person per se and seems to have a lot of honor. In the end, he putted his honor and repect for Goku beyond personal gains (aka the cube), I don't really see how this is off character. Hi is just like Piccolo (and somewhat Vegeta) in many ways.

Goku and Hiit are so strong and fast it's becoming hard to comprehend. It's sortof like watching the Flash and Superman but with 100x more personality. Goku's journey from being a little kid barely moving a car with a Ka-me-ha-me-ha, to his now God-like power has been such a pleasure to watch over all these years.

This episode was great, Russo level swerve with Goku losing then Monaka throwing the fight.
All in all it was great, so many surprises.
OMG !I HAD SO MANY MIXED EMOTIONS IN THIS VIDEO !
Hit's reason to quit was that he realized they were just pawns in their game, like you said. BUT, he also has the same competitive nature as Goku, he's just never had someone to push him before this tournament. Before he was looking for that cube, but now the tournament has given him something MUCH better than a cube.... a rival. He proved he was stronger than the strongest members of Universe 6, AND by quitting he got to tell Champa to SHOVE IT. AND, on top of all that, he got to make Monaka look like a very powerful fighter in front of everyone! Hit could tell Monaka was nervous and embarrassed after that hit, so it was great to see Hit do that for him.
I thought it was a GREAT and hilarious episode. If you can't appreciate moments like that, then how can you appreciate Dragon Ball at all?

I like the fact that hit through the fight. Felt like he was showing warrior integrity/gratitude for the experience, and for Goku's heart/forfeiting. I feel like the experience made him realize he was a pawn, that he obviously saw Monaka was weak/used as a pawn, and decides to bow out.

Great episode as usual, that stare down between hit and Goku while, beerus and champa sama was arguing was ELITE!!! HIT however gained my respect, honor is more valuable to hit and in real life then being used for someone elses satisfaction. Side note: The whole Dragon Ball series do have a weird way of making insanely powerful people look weird or unorthodox, lol. The God of all universe's looked hillarious, and his voice on top of it..had me so weakkk!!! but nonetheless cool episode.

Ha! My friends and I were just talking about the Finger Poke of Doom, a few days ago.
I have included a prediction on Quaamans video on the future of DBD but here is another one: What if there is a War between Universes we havent seen, and Goku and the others become involved somehow. This is is saga that I think could be epic. Ethics in fighting seems to be in Toriyamas writing style. I would like to see Goku and everyone else react to a war atmosphere.
Lol yeah, imagine if the twin universes like U6 and U7 had to fight Another twin universe such as U1 and U12
Here are some observations and thoughts I have on this episode.
Hits' hand motions were very reminiscent of future Trunks's first energy blast vs Frieza.
Goku stepping out was reminiscent of how Roshi stepped out during his fight vs Tienshinhan at the 22nd tournament although their reasons differed.
Regarding them not wanting to fight anymore. I believe they are kinda doing it in defiance of the gods of destruction. They do not want to be pawns anymore, but since they cannot defeat the gods, the only thing left is disobediance even at the cost of losing their lives. Goku steps out because he was annoyed by the two brothers arguing and wasting his time. If he knew that he was at his limits and would have conceeded anyway then it doesnt make sense for him to put in the request to remove the rules.
I love Hit! This episode made me a fan! Such a crazy series. Fully enjoying every moment
