just by virtue of being a PC gamer over the past 20 years you hear stuff and bump shoulders with people at one point or another. Some people I know bowed-out right as they were getting big and after hearing their stories I don't blame them, I respect them and empathize. Nothing is what it seems, and I think since this is all such a new medium, it's gonna take a while for people to understand what's going on.

Video games could be the escape but not the cause. If you wasted 10yrs of your life on a mmo and never went outside watching your friends grow while wasted 10 yrs of life this could be depressing but just playing in general as a hobby is not the cause of depression.
Unless you lived with a traumatic experience i personally believe depression and mental health issues come from what media you consume. Are you doom scrolling or watching and reading negative news all day? Are you being productive, engaging in hobbies you enjoy or creating a family? So many choices every single day can effect your mental state.
Been a fan since the beginning and as wild as the stuff you're saying is, you've also never chimed in quite like this, so it really shows me how serious you're being. i was here back in 2004 when AVGN started his this game suck journey and i followed you also even after you getting the beff by most of his fans, i enjoyed both of your content and made some of my own, 1000 to be exact, now i do logo, layout and other video-editing for other established youtube channels, i wanna just add that while many known youtubers in the millions like someordinarygamer makes fun of your saying (that gamers face demons) i can't deny those to not exist, of course gaming is an escape mechanism, it makes us relax and enjoy the moment not worry in the moment, im a father now and the few minutes i have i game, other i respond in my responsibilities, while low on editing work its a grind, ill not comment on the subject because Twitch is hiding something but appreciate your feedback on it.

A lot of RUclipsrs seem to have scandals, look at the Completionist. Always presented himself as the nicest guy ever and it looks like he was stealing from charities.
A lot of the people I've always watched have been pretty scandal free for the most part (AVGN, Irate, Console Wars, etc.).
