- In this Archetypes of Final Fantasy episode we look at a prevailing element of the hero's journey - the guardian. This constant for fantasy storytelling has been re-invented and retold in numerous ways through history and through each final fantasy; here we take 5 examples and look at how and why they work so well.

Auron is definitely one of my favorite FF characters. I found his story very moving, and I think thematically he complements the other characters quite well.
It's so interesting to see a Campbellian interpretation of the Final Fantasy series. The Hero's Journey, with all the characters who help him/her, can be so subtle. So much food for thought in this video essay! Thank you!
Auron Is My Favorite Final Fantasy Character. Good Video!
Personally I would have put some consideration of Cor 'the Immortal' in the discussion of 15 guardians. I like him because he is, as far as I am aware, the first in-shape guy in his middle age in the ff series, he was planned in early dev to be a party member and certainly instructs Noct on what he is required to do... get the arms.
I really like this archetype. I especially like it if the mentor/guardian figure is a past hero like Dunban in Xenoblade 1. I just really like multi-generational casts.
Very interesting picks, would’ve never considered Ignis but you made some good points. I read Campbell’s work a few months ago so it’s awesome to see some discussion on my favorite games from that perspective. Lots of good stuff to dig into.
Not Final Fantasy, But Citan Uzuki To Fei Fong Wong In Xenogears Is A Good One.
Hey man, was wondering what you thought of the new title song performed at the game awards for Rebirth!
