The no food, no water thing is absolutely horrible. You kind of need those things to survive, especially water. Still not as bad as the maggot diet though..
I remember when folks thought "gluten-free" diets automatically meant "healthy," but it's really only meant for people allergic to gluten. The food tends to be *more* unhealthy b/c it adds more sugar to make up for the taste.
It’s annoyed my Mom who is Celiac but I disagree. The biggest issue with Gluten free stuff is the texture and it’s dry plus the type of Flour affects the taste. Potato and beetroot flour tastes horrible but Rice flour or usage of Corn starch where you can is not that bad but it needs a thickening agent like Xathan gum to hold it together. Took her years of experimenting to get it right.
@@Chiller-pc1dvAs someone who has been working in a bakery at a grocery store for the past decade at this point, I'm well aware of the fad of gluten-free products, as I get asked about what we carry fairly frequently, and I always direct them to the designated aisle instead. But I agree that it's mostly for people who suffer from celiac disease, and I knew a co-worker who had to eat gluten-free things because of this
This is why diets in general do not work. These extreme methods are for the actors who have only weeks to get in shape for a role. Nothing can replace staying active and eating with purpose. You have to find a change in lifestyle that is sustainable and enjoyable.
We, in the modern world and in advanced nations, are so separated from our food sources that most of us cannot recognize what is and isn't real food. So, when fad diets come around and make things easier, it fools a lot of people into thinking they've found a way through a very difficult to understand subject.
Really well said, both OP and the person who responded. For long term weight loss and overall health, small but permanent lifestyle changes are best. I used to be quite heavy and would lose 50 lbs and gain it right back until I learned how nutrition worked and started hiking, (exercise that I actually enjoy). Moderation is so important!
The "gluten free diet" has actually made things worse for people with Celiac, since manufacturers no longer bother with making sure that the products that are gluten free are actually free of gluten.
I agree. So many gluten free foods, are manufactured on shared equipment, so it can't actually be considered gluten free. It's like they forget that cross-contamination is a major issue.
I kept saying this for years DONT OVEREAT It’s not even that hard The only time I’ll eat a lot more than usual is if I had nothing to eat all day and I did a 5K You bet your butt I’m gonna cram a bacon king down my throat.
Actually, with the Beyonce bit when Josh talked about the detox diets, she only did that for a movie she was in and there was one article where she actually said that she would never recommend the Lemon Detox to anyone and that there are ways to lose weight healthily. So yeah, even Beyonce agrees that the detox diets are BS.
It never says any fucking thing about the size of the bottle required, and there is a staggering variety of sizes. I think the diet is feasible if the bottle is
My grandma has celiac disease. The problem with the popularity of the gluten-free """diets""" is that companies have become careless with actual gluten free foods, mainly doing them because of the popularity of the """diet""". So they do not ensure their foods are TRULY gluten free, so sometimes when she eats a "gluten-free" food, it actualy has some gluten in it, and she gets sick.
For some reason I thought the "cotton ball diet" was about cotton candy (fairy floss) and not about ACTUAL cotton balls. My first reaction to "can clog up the inside" was therefor "but sugar disolves... so how"... then the horror struck me... they are eating polyester O_O
To be fair @ajr74805 it didn't actually shock me as much as I hate to admit it. Years ago, I watched an episode of My Strange Addiction where a woman was eating about a kilo of cotton balls a day.
Thank you for saying about the Ketogenic (Keto) diet and epilepsy, it gets overlooked as just diet and not a treatment for those who have trouble controlling their seizures with medication.
Hey op, thanks for recognising this. My comments aren't directed at you, but the general public. Yes! OMG this! I hate people who take legit medical treatments and run with them as some sort of shiny spanky new diet. Go away, trendy f*cks. This is a medical diet, not your ticket to look faaaabulous in that swim suit this summer. You never did, you never will.
Works wonders with some PCOS patients as well, including myself. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the ketogenic diet - but there’s everything wrong with the misuse of it.
Happy he did that too. I have refractory epilepsy and use the keto diet to help lower the seizures but feel embarrassed to admit that I’m on it because of its stigma as a fad diet. Only good thing that came out of it is that the variety of “keto friendly” went up enormously. So happy I can eat ice cream!
The reason people on the keto diet get constipation is because they forget that there are lots of high-fiber foods that are keto friendly, like avocados, olives, spinach, kale, certain berries etc
Yep. Also medically prescribed keto is different to internet keto, and can be tailored to the person needing it. Keto for epilepsy is different to keto for type two diabetics. People who use it in clinical settings are like Dr. Westman who learnt under Dr. Atkins after having people in his own practice who lost weight this way because they were fed up of nothing else working. Getting your information from a Dr who uses it everyday in their practice with success is the best source to get it from.
My family is on a gluten-free diet because my daughter can't tolerate gluten. I have found that using oatmeal flour, almond flour, and Costco's gluten-free 1:1 mix flour can make most gluten dishes. Check into making your own bakery items, and you can save some money. I grind the oatmeal in the food processor to avoid the expensive oat flour. Hopefully, this will save some people money.
Dishonorable mention to Jilly Juice. What is it? Replace all your food with smoothies made up of fermented cabbage, Himalayan salt (like a lot of it), and other ingredients but those two are the main ones. What does it supposedly do? Help you lose weight and "Cure cancer and homosexuality," among other things (yeah wtf). Side affects? Oh just some small headaches, stomach issues, constipation, diarrhea, nausea and eventually straight up death. I recommend That Creepy Reading's video on scammers because he goes more in depth with this scam.
don't worry, eventually she swapped to regular table salt instead of the himalayan and admited that was just because it was trendy. And don't forget, she also claimed it would let you grow your limbs back. And that the people who died because of it only died because they weren't doing it right. jokes aside, Jeff Holiday and Myles Power both have great videos on Jilly Juice too. It's truely horrific.
One of the reasons why I requested The Biggest Loser as a potential worst reality show list, is because the show starves and dehydrates the contestants, while making them exercise why too much. Jillian Michaels someone who was known to be on the US and Australian, is another big reason why people hate The Biggest Loser.
It apparently does help some people. Edit: Whoops. I meant the carnivore diet helps some people.😅Pathogens and parasites from raw meat is a different topic.
Do you mean like French tartar, Italian carpaccio, Swedish Rabiff or Japanese sashimi? It's fine as long as the slaughter is careful and food is handled correctly. It's really only a problem when you have those production line slaughterhouses, where they rely on spraying bleaches and maximising volume instead of using properly trained slaughterhouse workers to do a proper job.
Eating a couple of cookies for 1 day is very good! Eating a couple of cookies for 3 days and I will start missing the taste of oranges! Eating cookies for 1 week? Yeah nah kill me!
Air Diet is basically the "Heavenly Express" diet because you'll be in LITERAL cloud nine pretty quick after adopting that "diet". My first thoughts on hearing #1 worst diet is basically: Excuse me, the WHAT diet? *cringe levels e t e r n a l* ^^;
Some of my mom's coworkers have tried a few fad diets and beauty trends. We've been told that the Sensa powder you sprinkle on foods just makes the food taste AWFUL! Maybe that's how it works. You'll eat less because of how bad it tastes? ^_^0 Another Honorable Mention would be one this pill that was popular in the early 2000's. I can't remember the name, but it was supposed to be taken before meals so you could enjoy normally oily/greasy foods without your body absorbing said oils. The consequences? That oil needs to go somewhere, and...well, let's say it's a very powerful laxative. It was better to just not eat oily/greasy foods in the first place, making the pills redundant.
Ironically, you can take very low does miralax if you have chronic constipation due to paralysis. But the 2000s pill was awful, I had family who messed up their stomachs because of it. Portion control and exercise was the only diet that actually worked for them
Any dietary approach without a solid scientific background is quite atrocious, I think the worst part is when these diets are engrained within certain cultural groups.
Yeah, I think people will just believe anyone who is conventionally active saying you should do a fad diet hell we saw in this video Beyonce saying she did that detox diet and no hate to her but she is definitely not a doctor
I'm in agreement, here. Like what's the science behind this, if any? If no science, then I am definitely taking your claims with a grain of salt (hur hur). General consensus tends to lean towards "Everything in moderation", which I can get behind. Too much or too little of anything is bad.
@@SEGASister It should have. This was back in the 80s. My mother’s friend saw an advertisement in the back of a magazine for pills with tapeworm eggs inside them. I don’t remember what magazine.
They say the paleo diet comprises of food eaten by Palaeolithic Man ate, since he was skinny…yeah, of course he was skinny, he had to hunt his own food, you’d be skinny too if it took you 3 days to track down a pizza. That being said, it seems decently balanced.
I do try to eat healthy, but my problem is I really like junk food. I'm also a very picky eater because I have sensory issues with certain food textures
I also have sensory issues and sometimes I can’t stand certain textures, I get that. I have a pretty good balanced diet, but my problem is my endless chocolate addiction lol
Yknow, I can't remember what show in particular, but I think it was a sitcom on Disney or Nickelodeon? They had a bit for one episode of this little sister character who INSISTED on going on a gluten free diet, even against her doctor's clarifications that she really didn't need it. The reason? Because EVERYONE was going gluten free and it's something everyone from her friends to her TV idols were doing... I think coming across that episode was one of the first instances I remember being educated that "gluten free" isn't a key word for any other diet food like "sugar free" or "calorie free", it's legitimately for people with medical conditions. Good on them for getting the word out there.
As someone who's in recovery from anor*xia and orthor*xia, I can 100% confirm that if you were to trust every "health expert" out there, you would be left with nothing to eat. I've been guilt tripped into diet culture to the point that I was genuinely afraid of eating almost anything, especially if it was unhealthy. I would feel disgusted about myself if I ate a piece of chocolate... However, the more I restricted, the more I longed for those types of food. What I am trying to say is that a balanced diet is the best diet, in my opinion. Life is too short to miss out on delicious desserts that can totally be a part of your healthy diet. The more you say no, the more you will crave it. I believe that everyone deserves a happy and healthy life and a great relationship with food, as I do not wish it upon anyone to have such negative thoughts surrounding simple things in life that bring us joy, based on the nutritional value of the food we put into our body❤
What did you do to get over your ed without flipping too hard the other way . I think I'm on the deep end of orthorexia which was helpful for my fitness goals . But I think now it kind of is affecting my life and relationships as I can't trust anyone else's cooking to not have tons of unnecessary calories. I used to be obese but now that I'm down to a normal weight I don't think the Ed is so helpful anymore.
The trouble with "balanced" diets is your body may react to some of the foods (and you have no idea which ones). Best to learn to listen to your body, go on an elimination protocol and observe how your body reacts to recently introduced foods. Remove the foods your body doesn't do well with and balance with what's left.
2:26 kinda off-topic, but i LOVE that you used a Clone High clip here because the second episode of the original series is a parody of healthy eating PSAs in teen dramas, and they get Marilyn Manson to sing about the food pyramid, which is really funny considering you were just talking about it beforehand!! (Clone High is a special interest of mine and i always get so excited whenever it shows up in other videos haha)
This is the first time I've ever seen someone talk about Narcorexia! That's the specific kind of ED I used to have, but people just brushed it off. I had to go to the hospital so many times because I was severely malnourished but the people around me kept encouraging it because I "looked good," it was an awful time in my life and I wish more people were aware of it.
Reduce the number of processed sugar, corn syrup, soy, and oil intake (an average amount is fine and harmless, but too much is bad for you), a well balanced meal everyday, exercise regularly, quit smoking and drugs, reduce alcohol intake, and a good sleep schedule can vastly improve not only at our physical health, but also our mental health as well.
For number 1: As an Australian, I never knew this diet exist, and I really should not know about it. Because you have to be legally insane to do this to lose weight
Salt actually has nutritional benefits. Not only do they make meat and baked goods taste better, but they stabilize muscle movement and energize nerves.
theres nothing wrong with soy! its just that its in a lot of processed foods but that doesnt mean its automatically bad. water is in all processsed food but water is still good for you!
I didn't know that Australia had their own version of the food pyramid. I thought that was universal. 4:06 I loved Cookie Monster as a kid, as with everything Sesame Street like Elmo, so I appreciate the representation, even though Cookie is aiming for a healthier diet. It started out as a playground rumor that eventually came true! 5:49 My mom is on a low sugar regimen because of her diabetes, but she always says to allow yourself a little bit of sweet things just so you dont miss out
You can not have Celiac's and still need the Gluten Free diet if you are gluten-intolerant. This is something I know from personal experience. Millions of people now are either gluten-intolerant or have Celiac's, it's part of the reason why there's a whole food sub-industry for the diet.
I agree with some of the commenters' problems with maintaining a proper diet (e.i. sensorary issues, love of junk food, picky eater), but another issue is budget restrictions, especially with food costs rising at the time. I just can't seem to enjoy eating healthy without breaking the bank 😢.
keep in mind that processed food is really expensive. also, while you can eat a healthy diet that is expensive (ie one with like heaps of out of season veggies and berries, salmon, processed 'healthy' food), you can also eat a cheap healthy diet (eating things like sardines, lots of cheap veggies (i never buy any over $6 a kilo), and reducing processed food). what are the healthy foods that you're talking about that are expensive?
Should point out the word fad needs to be put in front of that. Diet is a neutral word. It is a regimen of eating habits. Fad diets are usually tricks and stupidity. Healthy diets are good.
@@RaynaGrimm No diet is going to make you lose weight permanently. You're right it requires more than eating healthy to lose weight. That really is the problem with fad diets or treating actually healthy diets solely as a means to lose weight. What really doesn't help is the fact that we are so completely separated from our sources of food it puts corporations in charge of what we can put in our bodies. To be fair, some do provide healthful natural food, like fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains, but they're almost considered luxury items. So, what do people have to eat otherwise? Heavily processed, industrial foodstuffs engineered by corporate food scientists to be far less satiating and far more calorically dense. Even things that are generally considered unhealthy to eat are almost health food in comparison if you make it yourself with fresh ingredients. The reason it's so hard to lose weight are effectively two-fold. One, our nature makes it so we hold onto fat to protect us in cases of prolonged starvation, which our ancestors had to endure before the modern age and large-scale agriculture became possible. Two, our brains are regularly being hacked by things like advertisement and flavor enhancing chemicals that make even healthful food addictive. A healthful diet and exercise are good, but without reprogramming, we fall into the difficulty you pointed out, falling back into bad habits. And with corporations having all the real power, the deprogramming we all need is not likely to come anytime soon.
In the US we changed it to a plate and a glass (the glass was for milk, but I kind of think it should be water and just include a little yogurt or cheese to represent dairy on the plate... you don't need as much dairy as you need fruit, veggies, and non-dairy protein.)
It's crazy what types of measures people will go through just to lose some chub or belly fat. At that point, its less of a health or diet issue and more of a self-image issue. Sometimes, people need to realize that this shit takes time. It took me one whole year to lose 40 pounds (18 kg), and that was from eating less junk and regular exercise. And it wasn't until a whole year later that i noticed any significant changes. And dont even get me started on people taking Ozempic, an injection that treats type 2 diabetes, just to lose some weight...
I’m laughing that Beyoncé claims that she lost 20lbs at all. I mean she is skinny and the only way she could have 20 pounds to lose is moments before giving birth to her twins.
Reducing ultra processed foods to just a treat in my diet has been the biggest thing for me. I didn't realise how unsatisfied I felt until I started eating home cooked meals again. It's never too late to learn how to cook, and to become educated in portion control and nutrition!
That final diet though... Wow, it's surprising she's alive. She probably eats/drinks in her private life and keeps up the facade in public or something, dangerous to believe in an "air diet"
Not quite. It's only in animals and not plants. And poisonous animals like poison dart frogs have this too, along with venomous animals such as the Brazilian Wandering Spider
Academics or medical professionals (I forget which) sometimes mix the two up. Toxin and toxicant are different, though people often mean toxicant when they say toxin. Also, while toxin and detox have become buzzwords and one of the liver's primary functions is to filter out toxic substances, bioaccumulation can be a problem, the liver’s ability to detox can be inhibited from bioaccumulation of toxic substances, and the body doesn't know how to eliminate every toxic substance (the dose makes the poison, but it's more convenient to just say toxic substance). Certain foods and products can support detoxification or can help remove certain toxic substances (e.g. by binding to them), but there is a lot of misinformation and imprecise or poorly worded claims, a lot of products have poor quality control, and a lot of products don't do what they claim to do. Some are even harmful or dangerous. Although, I don't think the intent is always to deceive people. Just because something helps eliminate a particular toxic substance doesn't mean it helps eliminate every toxic substance also, and in the case of activated charcoal, activated charcoal can pull certain essential nutrients out of the body too and can be harsh on teeth.
Hey man - love the videos. I agree with a lot of what you say, but the point about the food pyramid I do challenge per your rules for commenting. The food pyramid/circle is largely influenced by the lobbying of each individual industry associated with the pyramid. I have lived with a long-term diet of low carbs (from bread at least) and high fruit, protein and water intake with relatively low amounts of vegetables (this is a bad part of my diet, I just have a hard time finding or finding in grocery stores the veggies I like) and have lost 40-50 pounds within a relatively shortish amount of time alongside exercise. Some people get super fat (like myself) from high carb intake so it’s not necessarily about having a “rounded” diet like we grew up thinking, it’s specific to each persons body and how their body reacts to things like sugar, carbs, etc.
Very true as every body is different. I have to be on a very high fat and salt diet due to being way too skinny and having POTS, but my bother had to cut way down on carbs so she could stay in a healthy range. Bodies are different and sometimes you need to experiment to find what works (safely. Preferably under a doctor's guidance)
I kind of want to throw in the tragic story of baseball player Eben Byers. In the 1920s, after an injury, his doctor advised him to incorporate a product called "Radithor" into his daily routine (it was a fad diet for the rich at the time). Radithor was actually just radioactive water. A few months later, Eben Byers' jaw fell off because of the radiation, shortly before he fell into a coma and unfortunately passed away at the age of 52.
12:55 wait did anyone mention men during the Vietnam war used to shallow cotton balls? It was so when they got a medical exam when being drafted, it would show up as shadows as x-rays and they'd be dismissed from duty. Might be an urban legend though. Also the special k diet!! Oh man... "You are beautiful. But try to lose 5lbs" High school was diet central.. it makes me mad now because I was never anything but a "normal" body weight and my obsession over it throughout my teenhood is upsetting Great video! I love learning about this!
I got admit, I love cookies as like a dessert or a snack but being on a cookie diet that sounds like a recipe for disaster plus I think most people need to worry about when it comes to eating healthy it’s just eat the right amount of healthy things stay active and remember to drink plenty of water
The No Sugar diet could easily be changed to the No Added Sugar diet and it would be just fine. By doing the No Sugar Diet you're actually cutting out important stuff from your system, but by doing the No Added Sugar diet it might take you a bit to adjust to the change, but it can actually help you lose weight and be healthy at the same time.
Sorry to hear that it didn't help much with seizures 😞 The study that I saw did find it varied from person to person, and I'm sorry it didn't work for you personally. Hopefully there's other medications or treatments that have assisted you since. At least a little 🙂
I remember someone at my old job was doing gluten free. I asked him why and he said oh its healthier. I told him my niece has Celiac disease and that you gain nothing from choosing gluten free unless you like paying more for inferior products and usually they taste terrible, dry as heck or super fattening to make up for the gluten.
It's very hard to create a generic balanced diet. There are so many different unique dietary needs for people. A diet that helps you thrive might kill the guy next to you. Add on top of it big agribusiness, fast food, and food processors, it gets harder and harder to find a healthful diet. Only things I can say with any confidence is drink plenty of clean water, don't stuff yourself full, cut down on processed sugars, and stay away from anything that's heavily processed. Sad thing is, for too many people, that list I just made is difficult to impossible because they live in food deserts.
The Fruitarian diet is basically what the Koppai from Pikmin 3 have as a species, they get a pass because they _physically_ can't eat anything else. (And even then, they had a shortage of food in that game for their population anyway)
5:08 "real food" huh. (Is it processed? Yes, but saying/acting like it's not real food is very misleading. If it can be digested safely, then it's food.)
We did the KETO diet a few years ago, and it works well for losing weight. And it allows a lot of very tasty food, as long as it's carb free. However, it was never intended as a long term lifestyle, as it raises your cholesterol levels. You get on it, lose your weight, and then get off, but then maintain your weight with a healthy combination of proper diet and exercise. The big problem is, so many get on this diet, lose their weight, but never maintain it.
I’m going to be honest, I went into this video bracing for bad takes. It is very easy to mess up talking about sensitive topics like this. But as always, strider, you did a great job with it! :)
Hi Strider! Learning about these awful diets was interesting. I feel bad for the people who lost their lives to some of these, particularly the air diet, Sleeping Beauty Diet, and the vinegar diet. Hopefully, times will change and everyone will be able to succesfully have a balanced diet. I myself am currently having weight issues. It's mostly the snacking, though. Although since I sleep so late, I feel like I need to get up early and have breakfast to reduce my cravings. Tried Golo [supplement, not the diet], but it didn't work, neither did Slimfast. So, I have decided to try and reduce the number of snacks I have. Not going to be easy, but I will try.
After hearing the extraordinary claims by carnivore diet supporters I decided to give it a try. It's been roughly 30 days now and I feel... good. I would categorise it as a 10-20% improvement to cognitive capacity and energy levels, so not the unimaginable claims made by most on this diet but a noticeable improvement. That being said, my diet beforehand was not strictly bad so this lack of more improvement may come because the shift was not as radical. I mostly ate wholefoods and rarely ate out but despite that an improvement is noticeable. That being said, as a rather recent fitness enthusiast, I aim to gain weight and have found it difficult to eat enough calories on this diet (without breaking the bank) so I will see how I go on and possibly reintroduce some more foods into my diet once more. Short term I think its a great thing to try out, if it feels good for you continue and then after a while reintroduce some foods and see how your body takes it. Sorry for the lack of brevity but I find this topic vitally important and if my nuanced take on it informed someone without resorting to the black and white narratives of either side of the debate, I think that's positive. If you have any questions about my diet or anything please leave them below!
Anytime I see a diet or supplement for weight loss as a type two diabetic I write it down and ask my doctor when I see her for checkup and bloodwork if these are safe or dangerous
I love the hoodohoodlum collabs, his voice is so nostalgic from me. his videos were part of my first introduction to creepypasta, it’s just so odd to me for some reason cuz the content you both make separately doesn’t feel similar at all.
I'll never forget the time when some people thought all fat was unhealthy so they started a "fat-free" diet. So many foods contain fats, and a lot are actually good for the body especially the kinds that the body doesn't make like Omega-3. People made us so afraid of the word "fat" that we outright avoided it, while it was just one of the basic things needed to function.
There’s monks who slowly stop eating and meditate and eventually they go into a hole with a bell to ring to single that they’re still alive, and meditate and are in a lotus position and when they die they will always be in that position, it’s like people read about that and ignored the dying part.
Once I learned that cotton balls are made of bleached polyester, I already feel like walking to my nearest bag of cotton balls and tell them "You Lied to me!" like I'm that guy from asdfmovie 6 who stuck carrots in his eyes.
The cotton ball diet reminds me of an episode of Alf where Alf was getting high on eating cotton balls. To an alien like Alf, cotton balls are like addictive drugs.
You point a lot to the food pyramid, I don't know the history of the Australian food pyramid, but what I do know is the American food pyramid isn't based on total science, and a lot of it is due to corporate lobbying
You're welcome to make strong claims like this. But would you have some reputable sources to back your claims that the food pyramid is due to corporate lobbying and is not nutritionally accurate?
@@phantomstrider it definitely isnt really a primary source, but the TV show Adam ruins everything did do a segment on the food pyramid's history, as did the RUclips channel the food theorists. Iirc, after the rationing during the second world war, they needed a way to get weights back, so the government recommended eating more. After everything went back to normal, the gov wanted to recommend eating less, but because that would cut into food profits, companies lobbied to recommend choosing different options instead of eating less. I haven't looked at the sources myself but I know they list their sources
@@littlemacisunderrated412 To be fair the food pyramid I showed you was modified based on modern day recommendations from Australia and Ireland rather than America (thus fruit and vegetables are at the bottom and not grains). Not based on the World War 2 recommendations. So you'll find grains are not as high priority as fruit and vegetables. Which I still think is a good guideline compared to the average American diet. (Sources: www.safefood.net/healthy-eating/guidelines/food-pyramid nutritionaustralia.org/fact-sheets/healthy-eating-pyramid/ ) And I'm sorry but I just don't find RUclips channels like food theory as trustworthy sources as Ireland and Australia nutritionists.
@@phantomstrider that's a completely understandable viewpoint. It hasn't occurred to me that it was a modified version. And I guess I do trust Australia to actually give accurate information.
@@littlemacisunderrated412 It was a perfectly fair question and I always appreciate seeing people question their sources 🙂I think the biggest regret I have for this video is not making it clearer that I was using an updated food pyramid + the food circle, as you weren't the first person to point out that there's contention over the old food pyramid. Still, I look back and think overall it was a relatively informed, educated message to viewers even if I wasn't clear enough on some stuff. Thanks for the chat on this macisunderrated 👍
One thing I learnt from the TV show QI was that, a diet of purely rabbit meat would grant you absolutely no nutritional benefit whatsoever - trying to do so will lead to what's been dubbed as "rabbit starvation" or "protein poisoning." Since rabbit meat contains very lean proteins and very little oil or fat, you'd need to eat lots of other foods like fats and carbohydrates to make up for the nutrients you'd otherwise be losing out on from just rabbit by itself, whilst just eating lots of rabbit to "get enough nutrients out of it" would end up hurting your liver as it can't process excessive amounts of protein, which leads to ammonia build-up in your blood. As it was so eloquently put by Stephen Fry himself, "Man cannot live on rabbit alone."
omg i made a cameo in a phantomstrider video anyway, to clear up my issue wuth the carnivore diet isbt just because it promotes only eating meat but because of influencers (mainly on tiktok) also ptomoting the consumption of pure grease, many also make outlandish claims like with the carnivore diet you wont need to shower anymore. it's just frustrating to see this diet be matketed to impressionable people
The only one of these diets that I actually tried was the gluten-free diet back when I was a teenager and that wasn't my idea, it was my parents. And from what my dad remembered, it didn't really do me any good. I'll admit that my regular everyday eating can be questionable, but I'm always taking walks and bike rides. Plus part of my job involves taking in shopping carts from outside and bringing them inside or to the sides of the entrance, so that REALLY helps in ranking up my steps.
My mother is on a slightly altered Mediterranean Diet. Basically from what she told me: plant based, focused on fruits, beans, whole grain, healthy fats, and nuts. As far as I'm aware, she's just cut out the "small amounts of red meat" from the Mediterranean diet. She's on it because of some chronic health problems that make it the best diet for her. Sugars, red meats, and a few other common foods really inflame it. She's been doing a lot better since she started it, and considering that I've inherited some of the conditions she has, I've been thinking of trying it. I'd have to alter it further, though, since I am allergic to a lot of the foods in the diet.
I learned from my CTE class when I was still in school, I learned that an average human can only survive for three days without water, and without food its about three weeks, so what is the conclusion?, that we CAN NOT survive not even a week without water, end of story, like at least with the vegan diet you're still getting liquids, but this air diet seems to be the stupid thing ever, you can not just live on air alone, and the fact that people had died trying this is so heart breaking, just eat meat, veggies, and some fruit with water and the occasional soda or juice, and eat rice or quinoa for carbs, and for dairy eat cheeses like cheddar or parmesan, some yogurt, or even a cup of milk even, and very sparingly, things like fast food, or desserts, I think is what is the best diet for us people, I hope most people won't fall for these ever again..

I fully agree, it is for those with medical conditions, I really don't understand why anyone without would want to do a gluten free diet.
My mom still thinks gluten free is healthy.
@@Chiller-pc1dv Not to mention Gluten Free products are expensive.
@@Chiller-pc1dvAs someone who has been working in a bakery at a grocery store for the past decade at this point, I'm well aware of the fad of gluten-free products, as I get asked about what we carry fairly frequently, and I always direct them to the designated aisle instead. But I agree that it's mostly for people who suffer from celiac disease, and I knew a co-worker who had to eat gluten-free things because of this
One thing that people should know, reduced fat doesn’t mean healthier as some reduced fat foods may have more sugar to make up for the flavor

Don't forget, the *_COCAINE_* DIET.
Well that sucks (and as a guy with celiac disease, I'm concerned about that)
@@MrWill9002 I know, I have to constantly check to see if they list that it was on dedicated equipment or on shared equipment.

You learn something new from Phantomstrider with every video he posts.
I am. Enlightened. *opens third eye*
25:46 Or, in layman's terms, starving to death? Yeah, I think I can see why this one was at the top of the list.

My hearts out with ya. My Uncle has celiac, which is why gluten-free triggers me. He could die if he ate pizza.

Another Honorable Mention would be one this pill that was popular in the early 2000's.

Any dietary approach without a solid scientific background is quite atrocious, I think the worst part is when these diets are engrained within certain cultural groups.

I vaguely recall that too. Definitely was a live action show.

The Cookie diet only works for the Cookie Monster but saying that heard he's eating healthier now

This is the first time I've ever seen someone talk about Narcorexia! That's the specific kind of ED I used to have, but people just brushed it off.

Try frozen produce and look for cheap fruits/veg
keep in mind that processed food is really expensive. also, while you can eat a healthy diet that is expensive (ie one with like heaps of out of season veggies and berries, salmon, processed 'healthy' food), you can also eat a cheap healthy diet (eating things like sardines, lots of cheap veggies (i never buy any over $6 a kilo), and reducing processed food). what are the healthy foods that you're talking about that are expensive?
Diets can be both helpful and harmful
Mostly harmful. Barring special reasons, the only thing you need is balance.
If you don't do the diet right, you miss a part of it and it just becomes die
In the US we changed it to a plate and a glass (the glass was for milk, but I kind of think it should be water and just include a little yogurt or cheese to represent dairy on the plate... you don't need as much dairy as you need fruit, veggies, and non-dairy protein.)
It's more of the calcium you need, which you can get from other foods that doesn't have milk.
Wow a dietician said "you need sugar" she must be right.
The food pyramid is your source lol

It's crazy what types of measures people will go through just to lose some chub or belly fat. At that point, its less of a health or diet issue and more of a self-image issue. Sometimes, people need to realize that this shit takes time. It took me one whole year to lose 40 pounds (18 kg), and that was from eating less junk and regular exercise. And it wasn't until a whole year later that i noticed any significant changes.
And dont even get me started on people taking Ozempic, an injection that treats type 2 diabetes, just to lose some weight...

Isn't that definition of toxin describing venom? Something harmful in a plant/animal that gets injected into something else via a bite or sting.
Not quite. It's only in animals and not plants. And poisonous animals like poison dart frogs have this too, along with venomous animals such as the Brazilian Wandering Spider
Toxin refers to either poison or venom.

Fruit and veg are important, but hardly the most important.

I think diets are only dangerous if you don't consult a licensed dietician
The Fruitarian diet is basically what the Koppai from Pikmin 3 have as a species, they get a pass because they _physically_ can't eat anything else. (And even then, they had a shortage of food in that game for their population anyway)
5:08 "real food" huh. (Is it processed? Yes, but saying/acting like it's not real food is very misleading. If it can be digested safely, then it's food.)
Congratulations on having 300 videos on your channel, Phantomstrider!
honestly genuinely curious why he didn't put vegan diets on this list considering how restrictive it is as well
We did the KETO diet a few years ago, and it works well for losing weight.
Thank you! I tried my best for this particularly sensitive subject for many people.
I tried the Special K diet. I lost 50 pounds in 2 weeks. But gained it all back once I resumed a normal diet.
Honestly just eat small meals regularly, then be a snacc
To be fair, if I *could* lose weight eating nothing but cookies, I totally would.
Anytime I see a diet or supplement for weight loss as a type two diabetic I write it down and ask my doctor when I see her for checkup and bloodwork if these are safe or dangerous
0:10 I wish that the Dutchman was a vegetarian!
I love the hoodohoodlum collabs, his voice is so nostalgic from me. his videos were part of my first introduction to creepypasta, it’s just so odd to me for some reason cuz the content you both make separately doesn’t feel similar at all.
Interesting video strider there’s definitely some dangerous diets out there and people sad they always seem to fall for the same trick .
Fun Fact: Megan Fox was fired from the third Michael Bay Transformers film because she compared him to Adolf Hitler
Gotta love when strider says “Monumentally stupid” 😄 dunno why but that’s one of my favorite phrases of his 😁
Anaya great video josh!
My diet is when I run off of anxiety
Of all the times I chose to eat a bowl of fruit is when the cotton "diet" pops up.
One thing I learnt from the TV show QI was that, a diet of purely rabbit meat would grant you absolutely no nutritional benefit whatsoever - trying to do so will lead to what's been dubbed as "rabbit starvation" or "protein poisoning."
Since rabbit meat contains very lean proteins and very little oil or fat, you'd need to eat lots of other foods like fats and carbohydrates to make up for the nutrients you'd otherwise be losing out on from just rabbit by itself, whilst just eating lots of rabbit to "get enough nutrients out of it" would end up hurting your liver as it can't process excessive amounts of protein, which leads to ammonia build-up in your blood.
As it was so eloquently put by Stephen Fry himself, "Man cannot live on rabbit alone."
omg i made a cameo in a phantomstrider video
anyway, to clear up my issue wuth the carnivore diet isbt just because it promotes only eating meat but because of influencers (mainly on tiktok) also ptomoting the consumption of pure grease, many also make outlandish claims like with the carnivore diet you wont need to shower anymore. it's just frustrating to see this diet be matketed to impressionable people
The only one of these diets that I actually tried was the gluten-free diet back when I was a teenager and that wasn't my idea, it was my parents.
6:25 Making fiends mentioned!
Great topic! Love your channel.
