The failure of the KFC nachos is even more baffling because Yum Brands (the company that owns KFC) also owns Taco Bell. You think that they might have a better crossover, as they were sister locations.
I posted a comment in a thread above but honestly thats what caused the success or failure in my local area the KFC/Taco Bell and the Pizza Hut/Taco Bell did AMAZING with those, but the standalone KFCs made them terribly
Fun fact about me: My grandmother actually met the Colonel a few times in her youth because my hometown had the first KFC location in the province. … and in 2012 the daughter of the one who held the franchising contract tried to turn it into a home cooked meal restaurant called “Oppy’s Diner” but failed due to several logistical problems, including poor customer AND employee reception. Needless to say that their competitor Mary Brown’s had a VERY good business year that year. 😂 (btw if you’re ever in Newfoundland, Mary Brown’s is a must try!)
That's really cool! My Grandma and her brother (so my Great Uncle) both met and directly worked with the Colonel back in their prime. They even both have photos with him, both as a group with a bunch of other people and just them with the Colonel. In fact, I likely wouldn't even exist if it weren't for KFC, as my Grandma and Grandpa first met at KFC (unfortunate for them and what came of their relationship, but fortunate for me 😅), and my Mum and all her sisters worked at KFC too. In fact, my aunt manages and owns a couple of KFC restaurants. Long line of KFC history in my family, even if I find the restauraunt to be somewhat revolting.
@@MustacheOnMars9 That is actually incredibly wholesome. Honestly regardless of your personal opinion on a resturant, little things like that gotta give the place some merit.

I'm always learning something new about some of my favorite fast food places as a child (that pales in comparison to today's versions) and the KFC nacho box is the abomination against the Lord no one should of created. Incredible video PhantomStrider!!!

The KFC fries are pretty good. They can be a bit too salty, though. Also, about the KFC in Japan for Christmas thing,it's said you have to order by early-ish October or you won't get your meal on time.
First off PhantomStrider, Happy Holidays to you and yours (including Boo)! 🎄🎄🎄 Perhaps you can review food items from other countries, including your homes Australia and Canada. That last one is interesting because Hungry Jacks also had wedges for a time. I remember when I was working for them around the time it was released and it was fairly popular and honestly didn't take much more time to cook them and they were argueably better then the chips they had at the time. I also remember when they used to have the Chicken Crunch burger. It was a chicken burger with I think cornflakes and some kind of seasoning that made a really delicious crunchy burger that was just the best. Actually Hungry Jack went through a lot of different menu items around that time and not many stuck, apart from the Angus burgers.
Strange, you didn't mention grilled chicken. KFC tried to execute this concept they boasted KGC and did a huge marketing blunder by posting free grill chicken at Oprah, one of the most popular talk shows at that time.
We've had Skin on Fries over here in the UK for a few years and were kinda meh, they recently changed them and actually season them and they're so good now!
didn't know they removed their wedges, i liked eating those, they were always really good , grew up with them as the big side item my family would get whenever we got kfc. not saying fries would be bad, but the wedges felt unique
I live in Britain and can confirm we also have KFC fries (I think wedges might have been an option on the menu at some point but never mutually exclusive with fries).

It made them stand out as one of the few fast food places that had potato wedges at the ready anytime. And just having fries just seems like a downgrade to me. Here’s a fast food tidbit from my life, I saw a triple combo restaurant of a Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut when I was on a vacation with my family and my late grandfather(on my mother’s side).
Was really surprised to hear that potato wedges are discontinued in other overseas KFC branches cause in Malaysia we have the cheesy wedges, basically cheese sauce on potato wedges. It's also the best selling menu item in the entire country.
Hi local American resident here, here in America potato wedges for some unexplained reason, are 10x better with fried chicken, and is a very popular pairing with fried chicken
I never heard of pickle chicken but I want to try it. I like pickles. Although that really sounds like something you try once and go I don't think I want it again.
0:53-0:55 I did a double take when heard the name John Brown, because the first thing I think of when I hear that name is the abolitionist who tried to start a violent slave revolt in 1859.
I’m from Canada and can only remember wedges being around for a short time when I was younger before they were gone, maybe they were around longer before I was aware,it’s just felt like the wedges were a blink and you’ll missed them moment for me
When younger, was not a fan of the drumstick, but now I appreciate it more for its plump portion of calf meat; also, am reminded of how the drumstick was historically said to be favored by farm workers in the American south as convenient (with its built in handle) and it reminds me to be respectful of the past.
I wanted to see if you would mention the Kentucky fire logs they sold at walmart back in... 2020 maybe? It was literally kfc scented logs you put in your fireplace if i remember correctly. Never saw or heard anything about it, I just walked back one day to put something back in the houseware department and experienced the weirdest doubletake in my life. Never saw anyone purchase it (I was a cashier at the time), and I dont know when or more importantly, HOW we got rid of it, haha.
PhantomStrider videos are always a delight, and this one was one of the funniest ones! As for my personal opinion on a few of these items? 1: KFC Roast Beef. I have no doubts KFC might have still been good back in the 60s/70s, but I don't know about KFC Roast Beef. Also, Arby's exists, so that makes anyone else trying redundant. I do feel bad for the Rax Roast Beef chain though, as they had a lot of delightfuly unique items, but unfortunately lost their identity. 2: KFC Nachos. I love chicken, and I ADORE nachos. But together? 🤮 🤢 🤮 🤢 😵💫 3: KFC Airline Food. No comment. 4: Scoffee Cups. I acutally really love the idea! Not only is it a creative solution to pollution, but the fact the edible coffee cups have CHOCOLATE is always a plus for me. 5: Double Down Dog. Much like KFC Nachos, I like the ingredients [chicken and hot dogs], alone, but not together. And given KFC has a reputation of being gross [Colonel Sanders should have never sold the chain, and he's likely rolling in his grave from modern KFC's quality], I don't trust them. However, there is a particular fast food menu item I personally think makes the Double Down Dog look tasty in comparison: Long John Silver's Big Catch Meal. It has 1,320 CALORIES and that's not even the worst of it! Ever since this meal appeared [and thankfully quickly vanished], Long John Silver's quality has completely gone to garbage! While I myself never got the chance to eat at one, I have heard that the Long John Silver's chain was better in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Then PepsiCo bought in in the 90s, and that's the start of the downfall. I should point out this is a recurring pattern with every restaurant PepsiCo buys out, like KFC, Taco Bell [Nacho Fries are still good though], and Pizza Hut. And I personally think that's a shame, as I love the Treasure Island story and I wish the Long John Silver's chain could have continued to honor the story and its legacy. You don't even see ANY Treasure Island theming in a Long John Silver's restaurant these days, not even Long John Silver himself. Question for Josh: Have you ever seen the documentary Claydream? It's the story of Will Vinton, his studio, and how he lost EVERYTHING. I won't spoil it, but it is a very bittersweet story and I highly recommend watching Claydream.

Its funny when i still hear about the weird item like the double down, and that thing is still on the menu where im from, however its the most expensive item on the menu
American here, their fries are good but the wedges were the best side they offered. KFC was one of the go to places for my friend group after high school, plenty of times I'd get just the wedges if I didn't want a full meal. Getting rid of those plus the Nashville hot sauce cemented that I won't choose to go back much any more

Strider. Did you know that in Cameroon. There is a KFC Rip off called KMC (KM Choice). It is the KFC of Cameroon with the same chicken, baverage etc. But not as delicious.
Southern Californian here, I've never seen Wedges on the Menu, It's been fries as long as I remember. Though I wouldn't be opposed to them returning, generally I prefer wedges to fries.
When it comes that posh one I don’t mind trying to hunt spicy one maybe keep me from biting my nails because I don’t like spicy things and I have a bad habit of buying my nail so I think might be good at keeping people from buying then else with a spicy one as long as they don’t like spicy things either That’s the only benefit I can see for that one having a spicy one and having people who don’t like spicy food, but bite their nails use it to keep them from buying their nails. That’s all I can give her though.
I always felt they cancelled the honey bbq wings they created in the 90's too quickly and whatever they tried to bring back later on was never the same.
3:54 Hot take... Way back when the Double Down was on the menu, I... Kinda liked it, highly unhealthy, and I'm glad it's gone, but I didn't hate it 7:20 Yep, the whole Kentucky Christmas in Japan, it's Interesting, sounds fun
I remember having the Chizza here in Puerto Rico. It was good TBH, I liked it, but it was just Milanese chicken breast with pepperoni, not exactly the hardest thing to make at home
Hey Phantom Strider , We Know You Aussie So why not do a top list of the best bluey or worst bluey episodes (because it made in Australia) so ya I'm just asking but can you do it?
Them removing the potato wedges wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't dislike the new fries. I've never finished a whole single serving of them the few times I've gotten kfc since. It'd still suck either way because the wedges were awesome but it's still insult to injury
When i went to the us in 2009, they just introduced a grilled chicken range. Not sure if it was only available in florida or natonwide I tried it but i don't remember how it tasted, so i assume it was pretty boring.
I didn't know about any pickle fad either. Or maybe there never was a fad over here and I was too busy surrounding myself with stuff about the band Kiss to notice any other stuff that was going on online in 2018.
I recommend you mention the time they had plant-based nuggets next time, they were overpriced and lasted for very little time even for a limited item, I think they were just trying to cash in on the whole plant-based market for a while 😈🌱🍗
im still upset about the wedges. i had not gone to kfc for years and then i went and was so confused about why they had fries. i thought maybe it was because it was a double restaurant but nope..
Tbh the cheeser could probably hit it off in Australia if instead they labelled it a parmigiana. It could be a hit or it could miss depending on how they went about it but the thing is literally a parmigiana.
I'm surprise the KFC Gaming Console wasn't mentioned. Even though I think that it didn't get a chance to actually be sold, the fact that the idea was shown to the public was pretty silly
I never tried those new meals that KFC got. I stopped eating fast food in a few years ago and tried to eat healthy so I can lose weight. And back when I did ate the fast food KFC only had the old menus and I ate the ones that had chicken and mac and cheese.
I work at kfc n mine use to sell the ham and roast beef, my boss worked there when they had it n she said that everyone loved the ham and beef just it was a lot from a chicken place, and fun fact the kfc was originally the ham n beef one, so instead of tearing it down they just remodeled it over time n built onto it
If i had to guess what they mean by smoke and flavor of the backwoods is that they cook the meat with wood chips rather than charcoal though i could be wrong
I don't eat KFC much, and never their chicken pieces. Too greasy, makes my stomach hurt. Nowadays, if my mom brings home KFC, she gets me their chicken sandwich. Much less greasy. As for the potato wedges, they're essentially just fries only cut into a different shape, thinly battered, spiced, and deep fried. The new fries they sell here stateside are basically the same, but a more classic fry shape, as in thin "shoestring" potatoes, thinly battered, spiced, and deep fried. The only major difference is you'd get more fluffy potato inside with the wedges than with the new fries.
The failure of the KFC nachos is even more baffling because Yum Brands (the company that owns KFC) also owns Taco Bell. You think that they might have a better crossover, as they were sister locations.

Whatever you do, don't watch PhantomStrider because whoever, whatever runs this channel does NOT deserve the traffic.
Huh, wasn’t expecting a video dedicated to one food franchise, but sure why not!
I love pickles myself.
17:59- I had one. It was actually good.
I really do think the concept of the scoff-ee cup is very clever.

Hot take... Way back when the Double Down was on the menu, I... Kinda liked it, highly unhealthy, and I'm glad it's gone, but I didn't hate it
7:20
Yep, the whole Kentucky Christmas in Japan, it's Interesting, sounds fun
I remember having the Chizza here in Puerto Rico. It was good TBH, I liked it, but it was just Milanese chicken breast with pepperoni, not exactly the hardest thing to make at home
Imma keep ot 💯. I remember eating the Cheeto sandwich and (hate to say it) it was slamming. I still secretly wish for them to bring them back.
Not sure if it was only available in florida or natonwide
I tried it but i don't remember how it tasted, so i assume it was pretty boring.
this channel is so fire i’ve been binge watching for like 4 days
I didn't know about any pickle fad either. Or maybe there never was a fad over here and I was too busy surrounding myself with stuff about the band Kiss to notice any other stuff that was going on online in 2018.
Alternate title: 7 times KFC failed to STAY IN THEIR LANE
petition to rename this video "The Cancelled / Failed KFC Items... And Ham"
I recommend you mention the time they had plant-based nuggets next time, they were overpriced and lasted for very little time even for a limited item, I think they were just trying to cash in on the whole plant-based market for a while 😈🌱🍗
I remember mom and I being bummed out about the wedges but homemade wedges do taste better anyway. Another name for them is steak fries.

im still upset about the wedges. i had not gone to kfc for years and then i went and was so confused about why they had fries. i thought maybe it was because it was a double restaurant but nope..
Usually when I go to KFC, I only get popcorn chicken. Who else feels the same way I do?
The wedges were so good. Honestly, when i tried the fries, they weren't soft enough tbh (i like my fries soft)
Food videos on this channel are hilarious.
I was watching 10 mccrappiest video and heard a filet o fish ad and thought it was part of the video lol
I never tried those new meals that KFC got. I stopped eating fast food in a few years ago and tried to eat healthy so I can lose weight. And back when I did ate the fast food KFC only had the old menus and I ate the ones that had chicken and mac and cheese.
I work at kfc n mine use to sell the ham and roast beef, my boss worked there when they had it n she said that everyone loved the ham and beef just it was a lot from a chicken place, and fun fact the kfc was originally the ham n beef one, so instead of tearing it down they just remodeled it over time n built onto it
That reminds me of the bucket on your head, and Connor reminds me of the grown-ups
I remember the KFC onion nuggets.
I remember that taco shell comershel
I'd love to buy a bottle of KFC nail polish, and chug it in public to freak people out.
That burger picture is just a Slider enemy from the Papa Louie platformer games.
I miss the potato wedges... 😢
