    I am from Cali but I have lived in Bogotá for 20 years.
    I am seriously considering going back to Cali and settling there on a retirement basis. This for a warm climate, good food, nature, sports, friendships and nightlife. Thanks for your good impressions. 👍

    Ive been a few times to Cali, over the years. First time like 20 years ago.
    I thought it was OK for a few days with pretty Centro Historico, and nice viewpoint, and typical Colombian downtown, similar to Medellin's Centro kinda vibes, but also found it rather boring after a few days.
    Probably cos its very much looking for the most part like a sketchy Colombian city does.
    The main reason to go there is to learn Salsa.
    Aside from that i wouldn't particularly rave on about it.
    Medellin can be a bit of a tourist trap in some touristy areas, but youve got the variety of a plethora of beautiful Pueblitos you can visit close by.

      I agree 100 percent. I’ve been in Cali for 3 weeks after being in Medellin for a month and it’s boring as hell and lesser city in every way aside from Salsa. Even several Colombians have told me Medellin is a better city and I’ve met more Cali women in Medellin than I have in Cali itself.

      Yeah very interesting place depending on what you like. Personally I think you could make a strong argument to choose Medellin over Cali for living because of networking and industries that are in medellin it more of business hub. But again depends what you are looking for.

      Yeah USAers as you call them are highly concentrated in certain parts like Laureles n poblado being the main places

    • @spirittravels.
      @spirittravels. Год назад

      Yea, just avoid Laureles and Poblado, then you're OK.
      There's nothing special about those areas either except they are more "American" looking than "Colombian" hence the reason tourists tend to stick there, coz they want familiarity, as well as comfort.

      I found the food in Colombia in general to be good, but bland.
      But if you ask for hot sauce, and pepper, you can easily transform it to taste delicious.
      Honestly the regular set meals are some of the best value meals you'll find in any South American Country.
      People like to complain about the food, but they probably have only based it after eating a few dried arepas, and not given the cuisine a chance.

    • @jaylen5280
      @jaylen5280 Год назад

      @@BJ-fu4zy That's what I used to say - I grew up in community housing and assumed that Colombia was the same. The first armed robbery was at a high class restaurant. 5 men with guns barged in and robbed us all. The second time was walking back from the gym in broad daylight - I was pistol whipped in this occasion because they had a costeño accent and didn't understand what they were saying fully, and the third time was walking back from Lunch. This isn't the USA - I have never been robbed in the US because it is really not that prevelant there. However, people are hungry and desperate in Colombia and almost everyone I know has been robbed one or more times.
      What's even worse is that life is so cheap here. My ex used to tell me that she can have me killed for $25 if I ever cheated on her. She was joking about going through with it, but life is truly that cheap here. I have zero doubt that someone she grew up with would happily kill for $25-$100.
