Nice job... Just reminded me I've been wanting to learn this myself for some 35 years or so.... Here's a little help for anyone trying to figure this solo out - Lick 1 0:20 Lick 2 0:24 Lick 3 0:27 Lick 4 0:29 Lick 5 0:33 Lick 6 0:36 As far as going back to playing the acoustic rhythm part after you've detuned the low E string, don't think that's gonna sound good at all, for you solo singer/acoustic guitarists... so, here are your options. - You can either - 1. skip the solo when playing the song alone; 2. skip the detuning if possible; 3.play the solo on an electric with a tremelo bar and use that to drop the note down, or... 4. accept that you can only play the solo when you've got someone else with you who can play the rhythm guitar part... But it's certainly worth learning in any case, as even by itself it sounds impressive to anyone who hears it once you can play it fluently...
The solo to Space Oddity, like all guitar solos, is comprised of a number of individual "licks" or "riffs" which are strung together to make up the complete solo. To learn any guitar solo by ear, one must tackle the individual licks one at a time, and get them under your fingers. Once this is accomplished, you then practice playing them in order, and up to speed, in order to play the complete solo, and iron out any kinks (such as position shifts) along the way. So, what I've done by providing the starting points for each lick that the solo is comprised of is made it easier to learn each of the licks by allowing one to easily hear the lick again by simply clicking on the link for the lick one is trying to learn, allowing one to start the lick over again without having to start at the beginning of the video again, or trying to hunt and peck somewhere near where they might guess the starting point is and either undershoot it, wasting time listening to unwanted parts of earlier licks, or overshooting it and not being able to hear the lick from the beginning, and possibly not hearing the notes they wanted to hear at all. It's simply an aide to assist those trying to get the solo under their fingers, that's all. Have fun learning the solo... ;-)
