Rick hope RUclips shows you this. EposVox really really good for streaming better. Like Think Media but for streaming EposVox is really really good for streaming. If I ever meet you, given we are about the same age, we should compare notes re: the nineties!!
@@RickBeatoI know I have some of your stuff already but have watched read etc, but been to busy trying to stay alive to read, but I will try to buy your offer or how else can I support you than but your stuff??
@@RickBeatoIs this something that can be gifted ?
Would you ever consider trying to interview Tom Waits... He's my hero!
Rick, from my side of the screen. You have made it. You will never know how much you had help me. I picked up my guitar after 30 years. I enjoy what I learn from your program. I my never thank you enough for joy you bring to all of us.
Musicians never die, they just decompose.
Unless you’re Keith Richard’s.
🤣😂😂
You beat me to it😂
WAMP wamp…
Dad joke
The fact that he started his RUclips channel at age 54 is tremendously inspiring. You can always reinvent yourself and begin new adventures.
this part all day!
Failure weighs ounces. Regret weighs tons.
I like this
That is quite a profound statement. Thank you for making it.
I’m stealing this! Profound!
Have no regrets, like tears they do nothing, you make your decisions and carry on with your life, you rarely get a second chance but you can always move forward and if you can't you're stuck and make the best of it!?!
Success weighs Helium!
Age 72, coming out of a bad songwriting blockage but trying to get more public playtime even open mic bars again for the thousandth time. Refuse to be old and in the way, by being old and inspiring to others. Thanks Rick for gently reminding us
Love this! Get those songs out. The world needs to hear them.
Same age here. About to get his material just for the furtherance of what I already do. Better is the operative word. ♫♫
I left a good well-paying salary job as an Advertising Manager that worked me to death 14 hours a day. My childhood dream was to be a comic book artist. I quit the ad job, took a 40-hour minimum wage job, which freed me up for evenings and weekends to work on my portfolio to break into comic books. Right before I hit 30 (ancient in the comic biz), I broke in big time and worked full-time as a freelance artist for DC, Marvel and other comic book companies ever since. You're never too old to reinvent yourself. Great video, Rick.
It's incredibly inspiring to hear about your courage to reinvent yourself! Amazing that you started RUclips at 54 and to watch your hard work turn into success!!
the world needs people like you ❤
Hey Rick - don't forget to point out Bill Withers who only started at age 32! Created "Lean On Me" and many more greats. (If Bill were still with us, would have been a great interview for you to do.)
There was a guy called Hurricane Smith and he had his first hit when he was 46 years old called '''OO Babe".....like you i believe Rick is being too hard on himself......but it's that drive that's made him an amazing guy.
Leonard Cohen didn't start his musical career until 33!
@@CookingAroundTheWorld of course Hurricane Smith was the producer of the first few Pink Floyd albums. So had an interesting past before the couple of hit singles later in life.
And also "Yeah", one of my favorite song ever.
Whats even cooler about him is he never gave up his day job
Five Stars for Rick Beato. Knowledge is an endless quest. Persistence is golden..
Rick, I need to thank you. I'm a classically trained musician, studied at Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama - RSAMD - now known as Royal Conservatoire Scotland, and Royal Northern College of Music - RNCM. I'm a brass specialist, most often than not, trumpet, but I prefer cornet, and started on trombome but have been known to play baritone, euphonium and tenor horn.
You remind me of one of my professors at RNCM.
Right now, I'm in therapy for PTSD trying to overcome my childhood abuse that I'd managed to seal closed for many years, but when my mother died almost a year ago, the lid of the jar flew off and it all came out. I'm having High Intensity CBT right now, and my "grounding" after working through a session, is to watch one of your "what makes this song great". Or I'll go back and watch a Leonard Bernstein Unanswered Question lecture from Harvard. Thank you for grounding me when I need it most.
I think it's all part of your journey. Because imagine if she passed away during your studies. Just take care of your health. You'll reach the summit. The amount of knowledge you have is priceless. Take care friend
Hats off to you! It takes courage to work through stuff.
Wishing you all the best. The euphonium rocks!
Music heals.
God Bless You
Learning every day delays cognitive degradation…it is good for brain health. 🎉❤
Rick plays guitar. That’s a lot of cognitive exercise.
I'm 70. I too have had such bizrre experiences. Listen to Rick: he is being straight with you.
Being 61 and learning new things, you are my hero Rick! I want to hang out with you one day.
Thanks for sharing your life with us, Rick!
I love your spirit...and GENEROSITY... ♥️♥️
Perseverance, Dedication and Fortitude! Nailed it Rick!!
Music is a second language…my parents paid for me to take piano lessons when I was 8…and I learned the notes, and how to play with emotion, to where it sounded like music. Learned “Peter and the Wolf”. Played it at my recital. If anyone has the time to learn music as a second language….do it! You’ll be glad you did!
Go for your dreams - Don't die with a song in your heart
I appreciate this comment so much.
This comment is the essence of life! Thank you for it.
I just want to echo loudly what Rick said. I bought his program and I use it with my K-8 music kids. A year and a a half ago we started a YT channel to help others learn music. 2 days ago we crossed 10k in subscribers and are fully monetized. I use Rick's whole program as my main check down before I make my teaching videos. Somebody will be successful. The ones that take a chance and work hard everyday and never give up will succeed. Believe in yourself and go for it!
Thanks for all you do Rick. 10K down and 100k is next on the list. :)
Are you gonna give back to him monetarily? Are you saying you're using his material.without compensating him? 😢
What buddy above me said. If you're using his course you probably should compensate him. It's one thing to make your own lesson plans using his scale ideas but I sure hope it's not a copy paste situation.
When you sell your courses, you should include a Beato bobblehead. I would put my on my amp and turn it up to 11. 🤣😁
Rick is definitely a great example of someone who’s been grinding away for most of his life to achieve success and evolving as he goes alone. But I think admire him the most for marrying and starting a family later in life. Rick sounds like he’s a great father and one has to respect the amount of energy that’s required to be a good parent.
You're one of my heroes Rick. keep on rockin !!
Started playing guitar at 31. I’m 41 now. I only play at the house and write my own songs for my own enjoyment. It’s never too late
Release your music just for fun …
“I wore a lot of polyester in 1994…” 😂
Rick’s paid his dues and the some! Great storytelling.
I'm no musician but I feel great when I can play along to a classic rock song on the bass or pick out notes on a guitar solo. I will never be proficient I simply don't have the time as a farmer but I don't have to be great. I'm happy strumming along probably out of tune
My background is in drumming,
but you are such a gifted teacher,
That I love learning from you.
Thank you Mr Beato.
I was a singing drummer but a car wreck messed up my spine and the nerves in my arms and actually wiped my memory of learning to play piano. So at age 35 I started learning as much as I was able on acoustic guitar so I could continue singing. The last time I played drums was in 2013, just for a minute to show a kid a fancy beat, and my right foot suddenly went completely numb and never fully recovered and walking/standing became more difficult. I miss drums a lot sometimes but I simply can`t risk it. Gripping the chords on guitar is becoming more and more difficult each year and my muscles cramp too and now I`m getting arthritis. It`s strange to decline this way.
I’m so sorry you were in an accident. God bless.🙏🏼

My only comfort I can share with you is to trust in Jesus.
He doesn't promise the journey is easy,
But eternal life if you trust in Him.
oh, I needed to hear this. I'm 31 and I lost my job, I've always dreamed of writing music but I always told myself that I have no musical education and for some time I've had in my head the thought that it's too late... thank you Mr. Rick
give it a try! It will only make you feel better to give it a shot.
Good on you mate. Write something from your heart and keep at it. You will never regret being authentic and sharing your heart.
I agree with your sentiment, I try to learn something new every day. My own mantra has been the day I stop learning is the day I start dying.
I said it on your other video. I started at 42. I am 54. I get better everyday.
The secret is to play everyday until it's not fun. Then stop. It's called playing an instrument for a REASON.
keep it up!
When you racked off those names of incredible human beings you have had on the show…. Smh just wow. Unbelievable and amazing, Rick. Thank you for your lifelong dedication, and ultimately sharing the experiences and knowledge. This made me smile/laugh.
I have been a writer all of my professional life. I was an advertising and marketing copywriter, I did corporate communications, I even did some educational writing. But it wasn't until I was 45 that I discovered that dramatic writing was what I wanted to do. So at 45, I taught myself how to write plays. I'm 73 now; I had my first professional production in 2019, and just signed with a publisher last year. It really is never too late.
I went to grad school at the University of Denver from 93-95. Moved there from Detroit to go to school. To think that I may have "met" you all those years ago and now I follow you on RUclips kind of blows my mind a little.
Rick you are a big success. Your journey through life had many turning points but you kept going forward. Everyday that you share your stories with us is a gift to us. Thank you.
Dear Rick I 'm 63 years young and I'm verry inspirired by your pep talk. I agree you are never to old to learn. I'm going to buy your course.
Gene Winfield, is a custom car builder who has been around for years, he's in his 90's and still working and he always says every day is a school day or a good day to learn . He's an Awesome person and glad I was able to meet him . I have to admit when I first met him I didn't know who I was talking to but he's a great guy. Great video Rick , God Bless
Thanks for being a positive, inspiring and passionate human!
It’s so cool you were right there in those scenes in real time. From NY to Chicago to England. So awesome
You are inspirational and a gifted teacher. Thank you.
It’s crazy Rick has 4.4 million subscribers and doesn’t do endorsement clips. Everyone does it ! He could be swimming in cash… I wish he had some merch.
Rick, here a respectful opinion. You can indeed help increasing the quality of the music nowadays in a very simple way. I think a lot of great new and not well known bands/artists would benefit from your channel. I think you are now in a position, with a lot of followers and viewers, where you can spotlight and boost great talents out there, while at the same time add fresh elements to your channel. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy when you refer to Black Hole Sun or On a Plain as examples, but great if you also refer to new music to help us discover new good music but also to avoid being repetitive. Great channel though, I see every single video you release, keep rocking
As a non-musician, I initially came to your channel for the music; I stayed for the stories. Thank you.
I became a touring musician at the age of forty. Two years prior I took a couple of guitar courses at a city college in San Mateo California. The instructor taught us flamingo and classical. A friend's band lost their Bass player whose other band got signed. Long story short I ended up in a signed metal band and toured the world with them at the age of 43. Never say never.
Let's go!
I attended Fredonia State. Started in SRT program then switched to Music Ed. Bachelor's from Fredonia. Masters in Mus Ed from UB. Taught Choral / General Music in public schools for 16 years....Yada Yada yada...I'm 54 and now drive a tractor trailer!!! 😂 But I enjoy watching your channel and recommend you to ALL of my relatives and former students who have children! Keep up the great work!
My guy, they weren’t ready for you then. They’re not ready for you now. Love the interviews, have no clue about the technical musical stuff but you are great to watch. We all need teachers…thank you Rick
Thank goodness you risked it all Rick! And we are the better for it
In a nutshell: NEVER STOP LEARNING! Stay well, Rick 🩷💪
I still have a Peavey Classic 50, I got it of an older woman I as sleeping with in 96. It's a great amp.
Buddy... I was getting emotional watching this video. Thanks so much, Rick!
Hey Rick
For someone like me, a tone deaf lifetime guitar noodler, you are nothing less than a great human being, as well as a masterful teacher and musician.
God bless ye, Mr Rigby Otto!❤
I'll be 32 this november - finally bit the bullet and got the bundle. Looking forward to stepping up my game.
I've had a lot of ups and downs lately but I'm not going to let anything stop me from making music. Thank you for the continued inspiration.
Rick you have just inspired me to try a new career path at 59… having worked in healthcare as a specialist for 35 years. I need a change l know I’ve gone stale in my profession having finally a true mastery. BUT I NEED A CHANGE.
Thank you thank you 🙏👍😎
What a journey Rick and what an example of perseverance! Every budding musician needs to watch this.
Rick. I love your channel. This bundle is what I’ve been waiting for. ✅ Done!!!
How much support did you get from your wife/partner.
I believe support from family and those close to you is important.
Awesome video all about embracing change your entire life.
Chapel Hill in the 80s and 90s had an incredible music scene. I was part of it for awhile. What a time.
We are buying your books this week. Thank you for being such an inspiration to so many.
It's never too late to learn, like when the Greatest Generation had to learn how to program their VCR's back in the 1980's!
All star lineup of musicians. What an adventure
What you said resonates. I'm slightly older than you, but I've decided to jump into the fray and put myself out there and see what happens. I am an INJF personality and struggle with the perception of perfection. Never feeling like anything I do is good enough but when people hear/see anything I've done, they're basically speechless and have the same response .. "what in the hell are you waiting for!?" So, I'm gonna jump in the deep end of the pool and see if I'm gonna sink or swim! Thanks for the nudge!
Tone deaf istj here
I love this Rick. Just living life out there!!!🎉
As you say you had the knowledge base to move forward. The "didn't care" is relevant to move forward without hanging onto the past.
I love these videos. It's not about music, it's about life.
Dont forget my all time favorite guest of yours, Nuno on that list!!!!
that Nuno interview was spectacular!
Amazing story Rick! You took risks. Made sacrifices. Got involved with things. Were willing to move and to do without certain comforts-to take jobs seemingly “beneath you.” You sought it out. You knew things. You were educated but you kept educating your self. You kept learning. To my mind, your current success is not simply based on your good sense of humor and personableness. You your hard work. And constant learning. Acquired knowledge and experience and a kind of wisdom. Kudos. You need to write your memoirs.
All with the object of good music, good recording of music, good teaching of music. A love of music and wanting to share that love with others.
We want more stories like the Jimmy Buffett one about margaritas and the boat you worked on!
Lived experience. No substitute for it. Salute! God bless!
I can listen to this stuff all day long
You're so great to listen to and an inspiration for lots of people, myself included!
i just bought all your books..ive been playing guitar for 14 years and i can shred but i never took the time to actually learn theory ...ive been meaning to get your book for years and i finally said okay ill get it...i only know basic things yet somehow i can pretty much play any guitar solo..its time for me to learn what im playing and put some thought behind my spider fingers
It is so mind blowing how music people cross paths, really without even trying, or noticing until they almost run into each other under a speaker. 😊
Rick, your helping keep real and live music alive in the digital age...
Man, what an interesting life--way to go for it and live without regrets about what could have been!
i love this channel and have been following your for years. I'm 57, and I think that I have more to lose now than i did at 27, so it's a little more difficult to bet it all on passion. Maybe i lack courage. But also, i have a son who would suffer the cost of my failure. So in principle, it makes sense, but in practice, the risk of risking it all is just much greater than 30 years ago for me, and i'm sure many others my age. Love you and your channel. You 're doing great work for those of us working to be better musicians.
It doesn’t matter how long it takes to achieve something you love…we are close on the same age Rick and I still strive to achieve what makes me happy…here’s to dreaming and being consistent…best wishes to you for all your future adventures…
Hi Rick. I've been a faithful watcher/listener for a long time. When you started reading the list of interviewees, I couldn't believe how long rhat list has become. Wow. Thank you so much!!!
I wonder what 1994 Rick would have thought about his future on RUclips if he had access to a crystal ball back in the day 🤔. I'm grateful that your journey brought you to us.
Thanks for sharing this, really helps understand how your mind thinks with more depth from experience. Risks are what define us, sometimes they don’t work out but when they do…it feels great. I took so many risks over my life, those decisions made me who I am today. Cheers Rick, appreciate the story.
Great story of having dreams and perseverance.
It's good to share your personal story with the world, Rick! You tell us that we are not alone in our struggles, and you provide inspiration for us all. Thank you!
So funny, the Blockbuster next to the Benihana, i mnight have crossed paths with you at that listening station, used to go there all the time, memories, just down the road from where Elton John used to have an apartment , And across the street and down the road was one of the used CD stores I used to go through, and further down a little past the Diner, the used CD store where Roswell Rd starts, so many hours just spent listening, and meeting other people who would say "you should check this out" , it's how I heard Fiona Apple WAY before she was a known quantity.
I'm 62, and i would never surrender the pleasure and joy that comes from being a life-long learner. I could care less if others (followers) "validate" me, the hell with someone else's opinion, my "success" is determined by the metrics I set, and if I can acheive mastery and no-one knows, good for me
The ear training has helped me tons, intervals and modes. for working out songs or harmonies. I can hear a song and get close by ear as to what is happening. Even the Nashville number charting system, use that all the time in rehearsals as we arrange, so quick to annotate, we don't lose the vibe or energy as we work, because it doesn't slow the session down.
Rick I have no music talent. Just an amazing love for the craft. This story is so inspirational and transcends the music/entertainment industry. I’m passing this along to several late teen kids who are wondering what a journey looks like as you pursue your life passions.
Plenty of people start late!
Sony/ATV/Acuff-Rose owns the publishing rights of my grandfathers music catalog. Lucky White and His Dude Ranch Playboys. Only 50% we own the other 50%. They gave us the licensing thru the Harry Fox Agency.
Damn, if only I had come across someone like you when I was a seventeen year old living in Reno in 1969.
life is about learning and sharing! great video
👍! Rick you are awesome. Pure and simple! That's all!
I wish I could have heard this story 35 years ago
Bless you Rick love your channel and all your positive &Great Inspiration 🎸🎸🎸🎸✌
We are the same age and have traveled similar paths, Rick. I toured through the late 80s and early 90s, then went into teaching and producing along with regional live performing. I'm burned out now, no venues are interested in the music I enjoy and there's no money to be made... wine bar duos maybe? I now manage a local municipal theatre venue and enjoy my other passion, vintage aviation mechanics.
your a big inspiration to me because im your age and dont have to tell you what we didnt have growing up to learn all of this ,I have learned so much having internet but I gave up and went into a different field but im back and want to know everything ,cudos to you for hanging in there Rick
I like the motivation videos. Need it.
Hey everybody: You can really learn everything. Never give up!
A friend and I at the age of 57 decided to start writing songs and playing again after a decade apart.
We're thoroughly enjoying it and are really pleased with how many people appreciate what we do.
It's given us a new perspective on what we want to achieve, which is just to have fun doing what we love.
Hey brother we grew up where there was no tuition that made us better because we had to play how we felt not what we learned, no you tube no tabs but I guess we are better because of it
Thank you Rick for the GREAT ONE TIME deal of ALL your lessons! Just got it :)
Please, invite Todd Rundgren
You’re brilliant, mate🎼🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
It's a funny old world. I'm about 10 years younger than you and did the band & engineering stuff 10 years before you. I ended up recording 11 albums before giving up and moving to Asia.
Three years ago, I played one of my albums to a drummer I kinda knew in Germany. I didn't realise he was also A&R for a German record label and 6 months later it was on Amazon and in record stores all over the world! As I said, it's a funny old world! 😅
love this story!
