AnthonyJ350 not only this video but all of your 350z videos. Since I was getting a Z I wanted to prepare before I got it by watching your content. Thanks :)
ADD-ON: you can roll up the window on a 35oz by putting the key on the drivers door and turning it into the lock position and holding it there until it tools up all the way :D. Great video btw 👍👍👍
Thanks for these videos. It is cool to see all the little things depicted about the 350Z. I have been driving mine for 14 years and it is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Mine is a base model with a 6 speed and it just plain fits my physique perfectly as does my newer 2014 Infiniti Q60S. The basic Z / G35-37 and Q60 platform just plain fits for me.
For access to emergency gas cap opening, use a 3/4 inch hole saw or larger depending on how much room you need to gain access to open a access hole and either keep a small section of coat hanger that's been pre-bent to the right proportions or even cleaned welding rod in your rear seat glove compartment or thread a length of wire with a knot on one end. Fish it through or loop it over and around the actuator and have it like a pull line that remains hidden under the trunk carpeting.
Watching this video was satisfying. You really hit the nail with your logic about the Z. I remember back when nissan first marketed its features. They emphasized on the suspension and zero center of gravity while sitting in the driver seat. The suspension on the 1st gen G35s desperately needed a complete overhaul right out of the box. Compared to the tight smaller frame on Z's, it was designed with more thought in my opinion. You also brought up a very good analogy. Its better to get something right the first time around versus having to comeback and do it again. not many would think to use bedliner paint. at the end of the day it all comes down to personal prefs and finding that sweet spot. Your videos just gives me more confirmation that we made the right choices on buying the right cars to own. For that you have my full respect for this channel. Great stuff man.
Looking to get my 350 before the end of the year... thanks allot for all your videos, this is the 3rd video of yours that I have watched and I am confident that I will know exactly what to look for
AnthonyJ350 Thanks for all the great videos on the 350 Z. ive been looking for one for over a year, finally bought a 2003 Touring 2 weeks ago, with 91k in mint shape. The thing that i loved soon as i saw it, was real wood grain center console and door trim, and speaker trim etc etc. everyone posts videos how to paint them etc, the real wood dash gives a real professional look. never seen one like it. im the 3rd owner, guessing the original owner got it.
The ground on the muffler, is for stopping a static charge from building up inside the muffler. That way a static charge, will ground out on the frame, which makes no accidental combustion within the muffler, from unburnt fuel. Great video! Thanks for posting!!
@@AnthonyJ350 Sorry but I don't know! What I wrote was just a theory!! But every part on the vehicle does something. Could be; having to do with the with high lift cams and timing, high compression, and things of that nature.
Also without a good ground, your ignition system will underperform, you'll experience random issues with charging, and you can easily end up stranded. ... Ground the engine block to the frame with a heavy ground wire or cable, making sure that both connections are clean, tight, and metal to metal.
It's a 12V outlet for me, and i still have the other one in the center of the car behind the seats. Also, another cup holder? That is hilarious. I counted 6 stock cupholders when i bought mine, including a stock insert for the center console. So you could have 7 drinks for your 2 seater.

I find that one weird since I'm right at the vehicle. I think it's cooler when you're 20 feet away and you can operate the windows via remote. Unfortunately stock doesn't let you roll them up only down. You have to go aftermarket if you want full functionality.
It's the Chassis that's FM, not the engine. For better rear visibility, the rearview mirror is on a double axis, allowing you to effectively raise/lower the mirror. Yes, but it's not the engine that dictates that, it's the chassis. For example, the 06 Infiniti M is also a front midship design, whether it's the VQ35 or the VK45. The engine doesn't dictate that it's FM, the placement of the engine in this chassis does. I'm sure this is what you meant, but that's not how it came across.
AnthonyJ350 I am thinking about it, I like the frs but I feel living in Alberta you don't get to appreciate the true car it is. It's built to be on track, while the z has lots of get go and still can be a lot of fun to drive on tight roads.
There is a sub woffer hole behind the drivers seat. You have to take this pannel off and stuff. Learned quite a bit though ive owned mine 2 years and I didn't know half of this!

2006 Rev-Up? Be sure to always check the oil. :) Most people advice not to buy a 2006... because of it's oil consumption. Best is the HR then DE and then Rev-Up
I inherited a 2004 350z a couple years ago. The car is really fun to drive but I don't really like the convertible top on it. I haven't had any issues with repairs. I have been able to replace the radiator fans, an ignition coil, and the camshaft sensors by myself.
While living in Japan I realize there is a crazy amount of static during the winter. Many cars there have grounding tabs connected or hanging to the ground. This is probably why there is one on the muffler.
When painting the plastic panels and you do is start with a 400 grit sandpaper then use 800 then 1000 use a plastic primer then you can coat using a water base paint an the more primer better sticking to the plastic If you wanna use something like a lacquer base paint just make sure you clean the surface well and when done with the lacquer use a clear coat and lay it on kinda thick but be careful not to turn it white.
The biggest quirk I see in the 350 is the engine. Especially that timing chain tensioning system. The chain will never fail, but the tensioner and those skid pads are problem prone as the engine gets miles on it. Most of the people I know here and on many forums talk of the 'start up rattle' of the 350Z. I noticed they fixed this in the 3.7L engine of the 370Z and G37 coupe. well, at least I have yet to hear a 370Z have that initial start up rattle I hear in my 350 and others. And yes, I have replaced the chains, tensioner and those skid pads as well as the water pump.
archangele1 That's a good one, thanks for sharing! At what mileage was it making that noise and would you drive the car pretty hard compared to a regular car?
Thought for sure if you locked the doors and left the window down you could roll up the window by pressing the lock button once then hold it down. I'll have to check mine again. Stock key fob mind you.
Richard Gollen I did and I didn't. I wired the Viper into the door activating that feature through my remote, that's how I rolled them up in the video.
Two small tabs below the fuel cap also allows the fuel cap to screw into them. Careful that there's no fuel on the cap otherwise it will drip on your paint
I find the back window is fine to see out of and the quarter windows are as good as any two door I have driven. No car has perfect rearward visibility. I have yet to drive a car where I don't have to 'lean to look' at certain times. As for the limited slip differential, I have an 04 and it does not have a limited slip differential. It is a base model and because it has a conventional differential, the car handles turns better under power with less tendency to have the arse end break loose then my other cars that have a limited slip differential.
Oh, that gas lid thing is one of the dumbest engineering feats I have ever seen. Duh? My Infiniti and my Mustang are easy to open but this system, if that solenoid fails, is a nightmare. All those parts you have to remove to get at a way to manually release that gas filler door. Unbelievable.
Lmfao that gf analogy and rx8 comment outta left field. I just got my Z 4 days ago. Used 08 but I love it so far. I have my lil 93 240 vert drift project and this now.
Hi my apologies the comment I posted earlier was not meant for you posted by mistake. In fact I found your video interesting and informative .The only thing I asked my self being in the UK if the features would apply to a UK car.Love the one about access to filler cap.Why dont Nissan simply put a lever you could pul.Once again sorry … Very informative .
53/47 is not some arbitrary number because they couldn't move the motor... The 370Z and GT-R also share the same weight distribution because it just works.
@@AnthonyJ350 same I daily drove a 370Z Nismo and now a 350Z enthusiast and they're both amazing around corners. If they're making a stink that means they're not really true enthusiasts ;)
Anthony! I have purchased a set of seven inch light bars for my 2006 350Z convertible. I have also bought a separate wiring harness with its own on off switch. Do you have any suggestions on where I can run the wiring into the cab ? I’ve looked at attaching the lights to the “bumper” and power directly to the battery. What do you suggest?
Please be more specific. I have the clicking noise you talked about with the rear drive shaft that you said can be fixed with thread lock. Where exactly do I put the thread lock? Thanks
Not sure if it has been noted here but the compartment behind the passenger seat has a floor that lifts up for more hidden space. Well mine does anyway.
It's a Viper 5806V and I added SmartStart to it so I can control my car with my phone. I'm a professional installer and I wouldn't recommend installing this unless you're an experienced professional because you want to keep your wiring clean. Here are my videos on that stuff. ruclips.net/video/QEiJREXkLAI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Xg_tV7w6XgA/видео.html
Did I strike a deal? I bought a 2005 Nissan 350Z with 44K miles! Was $9,900. The previous owner was a teenager who went to the Navy, drove it in California. Then got shipped to Japan and the parents had it for years, in their garage. Put 4,000 miles on it, in 4 years. Checked car Fax, no accidents. It literally looks brand new, and I'm not even kidding. Brand looking new. Grey 350z, convertible, Orange and black seats. Let me know! :)
Depends on you budget and what you ultimately want from a car. I could have bought a 370Z but purchasing that car would max out my budget. So I decided to go with a platform that still had lots of performance potential that left me room to spend money to modify it. I don't like answering that question so I just tell people why I chose the car I ended up with.
Also does your temp gauge change between different systems? I have a button on my cluster that I hit and it will cycle through temp, mpg, rpm, miles till empty, and a few other settings. I can even adjust my redline shift light from that little gauge.
What about the clicking noise at slow speed ? I didn't understand what you said it was (french lol) I just got mine today, first Z, 75k miles for 5500$ I am so happy man, car is in good shape, about the security he did like a tune that has 3 set, 1 performance improvement, 2 locks rpm not past 5k ( valet or bad driving friend ahah ), and complete engine lock up for the 3 ! It's lit ! anyway thanks :)
I bought my 07 back in 13 with 50k mi... no problems what so ever with this car engine wise and I just got to doing a full tune up @ 120k mi.. only thing I've had to replace is the driver door handle which is common to stop working (I could get out but couldn't get in) which is a serious issue for 2 seater.. other than that this is a great car fun to drive and won't let u down.. still fast as lightning.
I think insurance all depends on the area you live, but in general this car would cost more than a Civic for insurance pretty much anywhere. If you upgrade the car it will become faster, but for what it is, it will have poor fuel mileage still.
How can I tell what what model of Z I have..? Mine is a 2008 but I cannot tell if its a Touring, Grand Touring, Enthusiast, ect... It has full leather, heated seats, cruise control, VDC, Navigation, Splash Guards for each tire, And lip spoiler if that helps...
Matt Pearson Sounds like a Grand Touring. Do you have Brembo brakes? You can also call the dealership with the VIN and they can confirm your trim level.
@3:20 I own a 2006 350Z Enthu MT owner (bought the car new in Nov 2005), and never knew about the little hook to hold my gas lid cover/cap/thingy... smh… just a little
It looks like you installed an aftermarket upper plenum. Have you realized any performance gains from that? Also you mentioned that the rear "bushing" would go bad (I know I'm messing this up), and you advised to not go with the Nissan part, but to buy aftermarket. What was that rear bushing again, and what aftermarket brand do you recommend?
Yes I noticed a good amount of power in the midrange with the MREV2 and Plenum spacer. I also installed the Iso Thermal Upgrade at the same time to help keep the intake cooler. It is highly recommended to get the car tuned as well, watch here ruclips.net/video/eC1-hE3PBf0/видео.html The bushing that tends to fail is the differential carrier bushing. I like using Energy Suspension for a polyurethane brand.
The rear diff. carrier bushing is something you said needs replacing. What aftermarket brand do you recommend? My Z has 150K, and I just replaced my shocks and struts with a set of Tokico HP's. The car handles OUTRAGEOUSLY WELL with the addition of the aftermarket shocks.
Ok i just got to the hatch part with the lack of space. i just wanna say i fit a brand new Cooling Fan Assembly for my Z in the hatch and still had viewing room.
Hey do you do the car shows with your Z? My Z is my weekend cruiser and I put some fun toys on it. But my show car is a grand national regal. getting that ready this sunday for a show and dyno. mon-fri is an suv.
What's the clutch slave cylinder issue? I might have it. And what's the fix? If it's what I experience, many who replaced the master cylinder didn't fix it.
Hey AJ, what about the factory supplied cd for the navigation system ? Any updates for that from either Nissan or Infinite ? I have a pretty nice 2005 350Z and wanted to update the nav system. Rock Auto has replacement parts for the Z. Let me know if you come up with anything else. Rob - Great video btw ! !
Thank you for this vid. I own a 350Z 2005 Ani edition :-) I'm looking to replace EVERYTHING on the car to make up to date since I have no clue when was the last time the parts were changed to begin with. I bought this used for 81k I'm at 114k now. do you recommend any vids that I will be able to see that will help me change all parts and replace inside and out?
When I took off my factory exhaust and replaced it with the Tomei I just left the ground off and didn’t notice anything different. If it does do something it’s nothing major if I’m wrong lemme know
I am hunting for a 07-09. Might as well buy that instead of 03-05 (hell no 06) for the extra HP and power width. Usually you don't want to buy the 1st year model of a car. Is getting 07 risky or should you at least get a 08? thanks for the video
ZekeMagnum My car is a 2006. Any year of HR should be good. At this age expect to change the slave for the clutch. It's in the the transmission. 2003 to 2006 have that part outside the transmission.
Cool. I guess they are rare now during summer. Will probably be more up this autumn or spring. There are only 2x 07s+ out there in the entire country haha.
2006 is a DE with variable valve timing on intake and exhaust. It's the same engine used in the 25th Anniversary in 2005. There are a lot of REVups out there. There were a few that had oil consumption but most high compression engines that are driven hard will consume a little oil.
Looking into common problems with the 350z HR I stumbled across oil gallery gaskets failure. Now I am scared lol. I get the feeling that it is ''when it fails'', not ''if''. Seems like it fails before 62300 miles. DE dont have this problem according to the forums. I also looked up that oil pressure should be like 14-15 when idle. I assume you turn the car on before test drive with cold engine, look so it is between 0-30 mark and then good to go? thanks

While living in Japan I realize there is a crazy amount of static during the winter. Many cars there have grounding tabs connected or hanging to the ground. This is probably why there is one on the muffler.
1983jakesan That's really interesting. Noone can really confirm what that strap is for.
Dang! this man is prepared
so glad this video was on a DE
Thanks for watching!
When painting the plastic panels and you do is start with a 400 grit sandpaper then use 800 then 1000 use a plastic primer then you can coat using a water base paint an the more primer better sticking to the plastic
If you wanna use something like a lacquer base paint just make sure you clean the surface well and when done with the lacquer use a clear coat and lay it on kinda thick but be careful not to turn it white.
Thanks for the feedback!
Stock key fob mind you.
x Pappin x You can put the key in the door and roll them up, but that sucks because you have to walk all the way back to the car.
Thank you, very good detail and clear understanding video, keep it up.
Thank you!
you missed one thing, how to bring the windows back up, put the key in the door and put it in lock position, hold there until your windows go up
Richard Gollen I did and I didn't. I wired the Viper into the door activating that feature through my remote, that's how I rolled them up in the video.
also forgot about how to disable and enable the horn lock function
Two small tabs below the fuel cap also allows the fuel cap to screw into them. Careful that there's no fuel on the cap otherwise it will drip on your paint
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome reviews. I gonna have it soon
Thanks for watching!
I find the back window is fine to see out of and the quarter windows
are as good as any two door I have driven. No car has perfect rearward visibility.
I have yet to drive a car where I don't have to 'lean to look' at certain times.
As for the limited slip differential, I have an 04 and it does not have a limited slip differential.
It is a base model and because it has a conventional differential, the
car handles turns better under power with less tendency to have the
arse end break loose then my other cars that have a limited slip differential.
Oh, that gas lid thing is one of the dumbest engineering feats I
have ever seen. Duh? My Infiniti and my Mustang are easy to open but
this system, if that solenoid fails, is a nightmare. All those parts you have to remove to
get at a way to manually release that gas filler door. Unbelievable.
@@archangele1 But you can hook it up to remote and pop it open and look cool!
Getting a 2005 350z this month. Super excited
Rybal Alex Nice!
the Key physically in the door handle turned left and held will roll the windows down and held to the right rolls them up. Standard
Ya but then you have to walk up to it. I like operating it with an aftermarket system from a distance.
Just in case you guys also didn't know. the "ugly" tan interior Z's don't have the peeling/scratching paint problem, even on my 03 ^.^
Ugly or tan interiors? Color is very subjective and individual. Some people prefer a lighter colored interior.
Lmfao that gf analogy and rx8 comment outta left field. I just got my Z 4 days ago. Used 08 but I love it so far. I have my lil 93 240 vert drift project and this now.
You chose the right car over the RX-8.
Hi my apologies the comment I posted earlier was not meant for you posted by mistake. In fact I found your video interesting and informative .The only thing I asked my self being in the UK if the features would apply to a UK car.Love the one about access to filler cap.Why dont Nissan simply put a lever you could pul.Once again sorry …
Very informative .
Thanks for the comment.
Hey I’m looking for a 350 which years should I stay away from? Which years are the hest
2005.5 and up have the most updates. 2006 has the revup and newer interior. 2007+ has the HR motor
awesome video! definitely going to like and subscribe
I just let my gas cap hang and dangle while I fill up, like a real man.
Lol same
To each their own.
Dude that condoms compartment has me dying 🤣
Ya I had a good chuckle trying to find a use for that compartment lol.
53/47 is not some arbitrary number because they couldn't move the motor... The 370Z and GT-R also share the same weight distribution because it just works.
I'm not saying it is. Some enthusiasts make a big stink though wanting it to be 50/50 static. I don't really care, I like how the car drives.
@@AnthonyJ350 same I daily drove a 370Z Nismo and now a 350Z enthusiast and they're both amazing around corners. If they're making a stink that means they're not really true enthusiasts ;)
Awesome video thanks I didn't know many of those.
Thanks for watching!
This video will help with running wire ruclips.net/video/bXElAdXWgnY/видео.html
Please be more specific. I have the clicking noise you talked about with the rear drive shaft that you said can be fixed with thread lock. Where exactly do I put the thread lock? Thanks
Here's the video we did on that subject ruclips.net/video/3ipx1OWx3kk/видео.html
350z and Altima ser are Beast.
Thanks for watching!
Just got a Z, now I'm looking at Z videos thanks!
We have a lot of those videos on this channel 😊
Love the 7-8 girlfriend analogy. Words to the wise!!!
I'm glad some people understand 😁
I have a base model with a manual and it came stock with a carbon fiber drive shaft. They all have this drive shaft.
archangele1 Thanks for letting us know! Did you end up upgrading the rear diff with an LSD unit?
loved this video!
Addraigo Glad you liked it :)
Not sure if it has been noted here but the compartment behind the passenger seat has a floor that lifts up for more hidden space.
Well mine does anyway.
poindexterrrrr No I didn't mention that, thanks for that one.
What car key do you have? It's sick! I just have a very simple unlock and lock button on mine. Is it aftermarket? How did u get it? Hard to install?
It's a Viper 5806V and I added SmartStart to it so I can control my car with my phone. I'm a professional installer and I wouldn't recommend installing this unless you're an experienced professional because you want to keep your wiring clean. Here are my videos on that stuff.

Thanks a bunch for the videos and the info.
Glad you're liking them. I plan on making some "list videos" like "Top Driver Mods" and "Top Performance Mods" for the 350Z, so stay tuned!
Looking foward to them! Could you also show how to install a Cold air intake for the 350z?
Rymden2 Maybe later down the road. I find the 2006 is probably the most efficient plus it already has a velocity stack built in.
David Mitchell yeah of course you got a deal
Hi question for you. With 350z is the best one to buy????
Hard question to ask. Kind of depends on features and how much "power" potential you want if you plan to modify.
@@AnthonyJ350 no just for a daily driver. Thanks
@@carlosalenduran4630 2005.5 are a great deal and have the updated transmission CD009. Enthusiast and higher has a viscous LSD.
@@AnthonyJ350 thank you
12:34 THIS MADE MY DAY LOLOL
It's true though isn't it???!!!
I'm looking into getting a z very soon, can you tell me the best engine to go for?
HR 2007+ is the best. 2006 REVUP has good power numbers as well. They all can be pretty good.
what would you say is the best year and model of 350 or 370 z ?????
Depends on you budget and what you ultimately want from a car. I could have bought a 370Z but purchasing that car would max out my budget. So I decided to go with a platform that still had lots of performance potential that left me room to spend money to modify it. I don't like answering that question so I just tell people why I chose the car I ended up with.
rcisourmiddlename 300zx was the best z

Also does your temp gauge change between different systems? I have a button on my cluster that I hit and it will cycle through temp, mpg, rpm, miles till empty, and a few other settings. I can even adjust my redline shift light from that little gauge.
Mine does the same.
Loïs Castellon If you're wondering about my axle comment just search 350Z Axle Click and you'll find my video.
If I was looking at a Z should i just be looking at the 2007-08 models with the HR models or would I be ok with an older model with the other engines?
WhinslorCheck I see no problems with the older ones. 2003 to 2005 makes less power. Are you getting a manual?
I am looking for a manual, yes.
WhinslorCheck Do you want more performance or more of a bargain?
I'd be willing to wait so I can get more performance, I of course would want the best deal.
I have a few questions, is it true insurance is expensive for it and if you upgrade it is this car good on gas thanks.
Yes, it has the Brembo package as well.
I thought on the Grand Touring the front wheels were 18" and the rear wheels were 19"... Mine are 18" all around.
@3:20 I own a 2006 350Z Enthu MT owner (bought the car new in Nov 2005), and never knew about the little hook to hold my gas lid cover/cap/thingy... smh… just a little
The goal is to learn something new every day 😀
It looks like you installed an aftermarket upper plenum.
It is highly recommended to get the car tuned as well, watch here ruclips.net/video/eC1-hE3PBf0/видео.html
The bushing that tends to fail is the differential carrier bushing.
Bert Silva Energy Suspension
Ok i just got to the hatch part with the lack of space. i just wanna say i fit a brand new Cooling Fan Assembly for my Z in the hatch and still had viewing room.
Cooling fan for what in the back?
@@AnthonyJ350 my cooling fan assembly went bad I needed a new one so I put it in my Z. Lmao
@@KamikaseGamer OH, I thought by "fit" you installed one back there lol
I just got a Z33 and I was looking for a key fab. I saw yours and was interested in what brand it was. Any info?
kaden Christensen Mine's a Viper unit (5806V). It can do whatever you want depending on the installer.
Love how you do the digs at the rx8 at 16:10 and 16:44. Gotta send your link to my boy with an rx8. While he's exploding I'll be laughing.
Pleeeeeasssse tell me what he says. So far it looks like 7 RX-8 owners have watched the video so far lol.
He's still quiet lol. So I just emailed him the video again. Shouldn't be long now lol
I can't wait lol He's probably not going to like me at all.
no he's just oddly over protective of that mechanics best friend nightmare that he owns lol. "gonna regret saying that" lmao
They leak due to over extension. Replace the slave and install the RJM clutch pedal assembly ruclips.net/video/E5cpYiVZNRI/видео.html
Unfortunately most manufacturers don't really support the electronics as far as software goes, as the vehucle ages.
Would you recommend this car as a first car?
Am going Friday to to get mine!
Nice!
My dream car 😍
Hope you get one!
I have a relatively comprehensive playlist on my channel dedicated to updating the 350Z you should check out.
When I took off my factory exhaust and replaced it with the Tomei I just left the ground off and didn’t notice anything different. If it does do something it’s nothing major if I’m wrong lemme know
I don't think your wrong. Did you notice any worse radio reception maybe?
Does the 53-47 philosophy include the weight of the passenger and fuel? Or it just the dry weight?
julianbryantjb I'm really not sure. They were pretty practical with the car so it's safe to assume they were considering fluids and driver
I assume you turn the car on before test drive with cold engine, look so it is between 0-30 mark and then good to go?
thanks
That remote is awesome
Ya Viper is one of my "go to" products in the shop for how reliable it is and flexibility.
