  • The Windshield Wiper Choke from side control is one of the most underutilized chokes in Jiu Jitsu.
The set up is quite simple but there are many important details that you can't ignore if you want to make this choke highly effective, instead of turning it into a neck pull/neck crank.
Let me know what you think.

This is my favorite choke/shoulder crunch. It is very sneaky and most people will give it to you, because it looks like you are giving them space to shrimp out. The shoulder pressure is intense, so be careful because you can tear rotator cuff of training partner.

True, that shoulder crunch is no joke.

I like to win like this In UFC 4. This video was very informative. This guy seems like a good teacher.

this is also called a backswim choke in catch wrestling, jon potenza does a good combo of that and a fujiwara armbar

I love BJJ! I've been getting in this position alot lately, organically. For me, the process took weeks, it started with a hip-swich, then finding the reverse kesa gatame, crossfacing opponent, when he bridges, then finding the choke you describe. I've also seen this choke called a wrestling loop choke, or very similar. Thank you for a great video, and details.

Great exposition. I actually haven't seen it before, even though once you go through it, it is so natural. What percent of people that you have tried it on don't have the shoulder flexibility to put it on?

Thanks Rick, I would say 10-20% will tap for the shoulder crunch.

Thank you professor. Can you do a follow up on how this is different from brabo and darce. They look a bit similar where the arm is across the chest.

Bicep tight and the right angle with your weight and it will put them to sleep rather than allow people to tough it out
