A brown belt where I used to train showed me the arm bar from mount and he showed it wrong. He told me to lean forward before bringing the leg over my opponents head, the way John shows it here is much better, I was losing my balance the way I was told before.

He gets the physics behind it. He speaks so clear and scientific. This what you should focus on in grappling as a beginner how to get the most leverage in yoyr moves. No matter if its standing up in the clinch doing heavy wrestling or if its on the mat. It's all about efficiency and mindgames.

@@comedyandjre You mean when you are in S mount? The key is to put all the weight on him and his far arm controlled too by pulling into you. At the same time your leg (from knee to foot) has to be perpendicular to his body in order to prevent his rolling and always with foot activated (the fingers' foot pushing into him). It's hard to explain only with words but I hope this helps.

Attention to detail is one of the most important things a master does. My knowledge in grappling is very basic but I feel as if I'm watching a real master. I can only imagine the time it must've taken to discover all of this and how much trial and error. It was paid for in time (which is the most valuable thing we can spend), passion, and probably some pain. I just got this for free and without a rite of passage. I cannot help but to feel very grateful and will treat this knowledge with the utmost respect. The ones who take it for granted have never bled for their passion.

I clicked this video thinking I already knew what he was going to say but then I learned I've been doing everything wrong my entire time training.

On 5:12 I would go for arm triangle, safer and easier.
Anyway it was a great tip to reach there, thanks again John and Bernardo

That is exactly what I was thinking. The main reason I keep rewatching this video is because the arm ratchet thing looks like the perfect way to setup an arm triangle, which I am much better at than arm bars :) I just hope that it doesn't make it easy for your opponent to roll you though, since you won't be able to post with the arm that is under their head. I think as long as they don't trap your foot on that side you could post your leg out though.

Thaaaaank you for the tactic on breaking the grips before applying the bar. I’m going to test for blue in december, and these details are going to help me turn my white belt arm bar into better one!

I think Danaher is the BEST at explaining how techniques work. Amazing detailed video. Cant wait to work these new details into training.

Thank You Bernardo and John! Wonderful details! I am a skinny and not very strong. i am always scared to apply arm-bars when rolling NoGi because i often lose the position. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

There's no space between them when Danaher demonstrates these moves. It's amazing, atoms are getting forced out of those spaces!
