Which belt are you in Jiu Jitsu?
white belt just started 2 weeks ago
White. Started last Monday at 34. What am I doing with my life?😅
White, immaculate
@ldomfreitas Same age here. Started 8 months ago and absolutely love it! After 3 months you will tap all trail class guys easily and start belief in progress! Keep learning ^^
I'm 50 this year and just started. Black belt by 60 is what I'm aiming for. Wish me luck
Not sure which is scarier, the cold look in John's eyes or the fact that he calls chokes "strangulations".
Thats how technical he his. Choke and stranglations have different meanings. Technically strangulation would be correct. I love to strangle people :)
"Strangulamento " as Brasilians call it and "Finalising" for Subs as I hear from Renzo in this same youtube , They sound awsome.
@@wesdowty79 In that case, I do miss strangling people and can't wait to do it again in the near future.
@@armandberkut6021 agreed, although I don't speak it, many things sound much better in Portuguese!
@Brian Parris :hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha......Yah it sounds rough !
Listening to John helps my academic writing.
Apparently, he went to Columbia University for Philosophy
He looks like his booty smells like cheetos and that he bites his fingernails to nubs an that they prob smell like the butt
@Hail Cesar bruhhh 💀💀💀
@Hail Cesar dude stuff like that makes my day.. i work construction an we say shit like that all day 😂😂 best humor

Thank you.
He's like some kind of wizard. I love how he breaks down every part.
Now if I could only remember any of it.
Funny how as soon as you start rolling you forget 😂😂
I completely agree 💯
@@chasematthew1757 I try and focus on just one thing when rolling. Just one. Eventually that sinks in and you move onto the next. Trying to do too much just clouds the mind.
@@kaibe5241 good advice bro

I'm a brown belt, 10+ years of training and have had the privilege of watching plenty of DVDs and attending seminars from many coaches in Brazil, and some foreign ones. That being said, I have purchased 5 of John's DVDs and have attended two of his classes and I can say, without a doubt, he is the best, most articulate coach, with the best material and best teaching skills in the world, bar none.
I've had the privilege of doing a few privates with him (a buddy of mine brought me along as the training dummy) and can say there isn't a human being on the planet that has more BJJ knowledge or the ability to pass it along like John. I've been doing BJJ since 2003 and when I did my 1st private in 2016 he showed me how to do a RNC significantly more effective & that's one of the 1st moves you learn when you start.
His breakdown and explanation of basic techniques is amazing. When I revisit a technique that I thought I have down, I pick up new details that improve my application of the techniques
I'm a black belt, 12+ years of training and know you since we were blue belts. Lol
Rapaz, eu tenho visto muito videos dele. Tem me ajudado muito a ensinar melhor. Descobri muito detalhe que eu fazia mas não tinha consciência e portanto não sabia ensinar.
There is someone like him, his student, Firas Zahabi of Tristar Gym (he coaches a lot of ufc champ and one of them is GSP), lllook him up on Youtubr
A white belt could literally win tournaments with this video.
Oh damn guess I'll repeated practice these techniques
Normaly i prefer short videos except from this guy. The amount of precious details is just ridiculous. Thank you so much for bringing him. This is gold
I was literally about to write the same comment when I glanced at yours. Spot on! The amount of “priceless” details in his explanation is ridiculous! And a lot of tutorials try to put a bunch of talk and explanations.... but you get on the mat and it’s difficult to execute when going all out.... This shit works!! PURE GOLD
Escapes from:
@6:00: low mount
@9:20: side control
@10:54: back control

ncooty thanks
Thank you!!!
A true hero!
ncooty sexual god. Thank you
You the real MVP
I was watching this video and wondering why would anyone actually dislike this video? You have two respected black belts teaching you a 30 min lesson for free and you are like: "Nah, I am going to press dislike". Haven't you clicked on this video to learn something or what? Crazy...
Anyway, thank you for this lesson masters John and Bernardo!

Bernardo living his best life
The happiness on John's face whilst shaking Bernardo's hand lol
The happiness while tightening that belt around Bernardo's neck :P
I started my BJJ journey 2 months ago, and it's nothing short of a game changer for me. Getting on the mat with a patient and supportive group of people who all started where I am now, and learning the basics with a world class instructor. If anyone reading this is considering starting BJJ, go for it. Oh, and when you're not on the mat, watch this channel!
I started 6 weeks ago. I'm in my mid-40's. It's so fun and good for you. OSS!
Just started last month at the age of 34. It’s almost been a year now -- you guys still at it ?
I dod jujitsu maybe 20 years ago for about 7 months. It was fun. I joined my kids 8 and 10 last week. Now I really want to do it again. I’m 48 now and haven’t stretched or really worked out in a while. Nervous and probably not flexible anymore.
Less than three minutes in and you can just never stand immediately why John is such a successful coach. Not just his vast experience and knowledge. But his super clear and consist explanations
I love how Danaher spends first few minutes defining "pin". Epic 😂
A gentleman and a scholar
John's understanding and micro breakdown of each technique is phenomenal. He is a reverse engineer of jiu jitsu. He will go down as one of the biggest game changers in the art, probably the martial art world too.
Enjoyed the demonstration as it was step by step and I am a beginner at 71.
Thanks
Please never stop having John teach on your channel. Absolutely priceless information.
I’m a beginner so I’ve really just been focused on defense . Today on gi class I was able to follow John’s classic mount escape and it worked for me . Best feeling ever rolling the opponent over
john is so calm when he talks... hes like the Bob Ross of bjj ... he cam slow his heart rate to a stop ... hes a buddha
what a perfect comparison :D
It’s not an arm break it’s a happy accident.
Joey Nite one key in jiujitsu is staying calm, he’s probably practiced it for years😂
I've been doing the mount since the 60!
The sign of a great teacher in ANY topic....No matter how complex.... they can break it down, and make it understandable… And make it seem easy! John Danaher is a perfect example! One Has to have really analyzed, understood, and have the ability to communicate what they do in order to break it down in such a way.
Amazing Martial Artist!
John is definitely a phenomenon in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. There is no other person in BJJ with such level of an academic approach as Mr. Danaher has. These details and the explanation are gold.
Does he have a channel?
Danaher is a living bjj genius...the way he breaks down moves is second to none!
I cannot get enough of those two guys. I'd watch a 60 min video.
Awesome. I also really appreciate that he is aware of the importance of camera angles instead of leaving us without a visual of what he’s doing on the ‘hidden side’. Excellent as always, thank you
Day 2 white belt here - mind was blown by that elbow escape, wow! And a great explanation too.
still training?
Still going?
Still alive?
RIP
I came across this video while looking for ways to help my 8 year old son who just started. We watched and practiced this together and seeing his face the first time he escaped was beyond words since he's taken down almost immediately and struggles to get out. I've never seen him happier than when he's on the mats. This sport is a blessing, and the wizards like John who break this stuff down are Godsends. Thank you 🙏
Had my first class where we actually rolled today. This felt like a cheat code!
welcome.
Why?
were you not taught these before you rolled?
Seems a very strange 'class; where you are just told to roll without being told what rollin is or what and how to practice.
@@tonysicily2687 yeah it was a bit odd, 2 days were spent just drilling other things and then Saturday is open mat where I got to try this.
@@tonysicily2687 my first class i was taught one technique and then live roll. I was like a brawler with zero experience. I got owned, thankfully, because i was surely dangerous as hell.
Moral of the story: some places don’t start with basic building blocks for everyone. You just drop in and go. I prefer John’s method of teaching.
This cant be harder than physics.
I spent 2 years plus learning BJJ. This 'primer' is so good that it fixed many of my errors in my escapes and even gave me a game plan against all opponents.
You sir are a wizard and your material is well worth the price.
Think about it. Imagine you're in a self defense situation. This primer makes sure you end up at least in guard and attempting to take the opponents back. No "noise". No "nonsense"
The first 2 years is really confusing as we are just groping with all the major things in jiu jitsu without delving into the details and cementing the nervous system reflexes to carry out the motions flawlessly.
If I had your instructionals since the beginning I'm absolutely sure i would have reached blue belt in a year training just twice a week and spending a few hours a week drilling your techniques with a partner.
He’s the GOAT undoubtedly
man not only
is his instruction precise and efficient but even his camera direction is accurate and efficient
I have zero experience in BJJ yet thanks to this video I am able to be more involved and help my son (who just started training 12 days ago) to get out of bad situations
Wow, John is among the most eloquent BJJ instructors I've ever heard. So clear, precise, and thorough. His passion for the sport comes through with every word. Thank you John! 🍻
Thank you for this! With the help of this video, I was able to do an elbow escape from the opponent's mount position and I did the final submission in a fight against a more experienced training partner exactly as you show it. That was my 3rd BJJ training in my whole life. I am an absolute white belt. I woke up, go to bed, dreaming with this video. A tried it in my mind a million times. I was lay down to the floor and do it with an imagined opponent. I think that was the key of my success. But I have many-many fault in my movements. So I will practice it at least 10 000 times while it will be perfect. Thank you. :)
you really get a sense of how John is a true teacher in these videos...
Finding this instructional just made me cry in joy. I just got started with Bjj and I am completely addicted to it, for it's giving me drive and motivation to carry on in these rattled times. I owe you a huge thank you, John Danaher, for breaking down and dissecting the movements in such a well spoken manner. Thank you also to the team, filming and making these videos possible. Such a great value to all of us. Great channel!
I am deeply thankful.
Best regards from Allgäu, Bavaria, Germany.
As a white belt I didn’t really focus on learning crazy moves and the plethora of instructionals currently available. Now as a blue belt I’m starting to explore the depth of BJJ knowledge, and just this video has helped me with making my fundamentals better. Danaher is a brilliant, articulate instructor, very grateful to have watched this video
Nick Diaz took being higher than his opponent seriously and put the dude in a gogoplata, what a master 🙏🏼
11:40 wipes nose on John’s shoulder 😂
lol
Y'all catch every thing😂😂😂😂
im dying xD
This is the first video of any topic that I watch till the end without getting distracted by the comments. John Danaher is such a master.
I'm just glad John found Jiu Jitsu or he could've been on a different path. Incredible teacher who gives you all the right info you need in such a structured well explained way
I just love Danaher teaching. Such a analytical approach.
I'm drunk at a bar, angry. I want to fight someone but then I remember a John Danaher is in the wild.
John is the best at really breaking it down and explaining why you are doing the technique
It's a huge honor for me to watch this channel
AWESOME technique demonstrations! You are extremely patient in giving detailed explanations. Thank you.
I am glad there was no camera when I was the one getting choked during my class. Those chokes are no fun to be on the receiving end. The pain goes from zero to 100 with very little in between. Also .... great video.
Am sold! John Danagher is indeed a BJJ professor of Phd caliber. Just listen to the simplicity of his detailed explanation of very complicated techniques (“to new students”, and seasoned ones alike). All the freshmen class now definitely get it.
Pure gold Mr. Danaher thank you!
I can’t believe one of the sports most renowned coaches is doing really long meaty videos on RUclips for free.. it gold
Thanks
Thank you John and Bernardo!
Amazing explanations and pedagogy, exceptional! Thank so much for this great work 🙏🏽🙏🏽
His ability to speak and move while breaking down everything… amazing 🙏🏻🙇🏻♂️
Amazing quality content, John and Bernardo! Thank you!
Phenomenal breakdown. Thank you so much.
Every time I see John teach I'm struck by his brilliance. So so grateful for this, will definitely buy a DVD.
Is it me or every time I see John in BJJ fanatics... i always have turn up the volume when he starts talking???
absolute genius.. Mr Danaher creates champions with his articulate teaching.
Bernardo and John - this is great guys - thanks
i love when bernardo thanks john at the end :)
Danaher is a walking bjj encyclopedia ! Absolutely unbelievable teaching approach.
this is gold. if i could just remember any of this in the mat.
i always come back to this. so simple and so elegant
I like how he ties all the moves together at the end. Beautiful
One of the best teachings I’ve seen. I’m a lifelong wrestler stepping into bjj at 30 and it’s a whole different world. I feel like wrestling is 2D and bjj is 3D. You need to be soo much more conscious of your legs and whole body as one unit.
Yes they go together wrestling is mostly on the feet really once you are taken down you are beaten to a point
Bjj starts on the ground really you can't submit from standing so they really are not comparable. . .
One of my friends would try to grapple me I wrestled and he did bjj for like a month and I would take him down and I would stop and he's like we just started and I'm like no I pinned you. .
I as a wrestler have been caught in countless leg locks. But trust me, the moment you get good at guard, you're going to give everybody trouble
This video is absolute gold for a beginner!
The beauty of what John does is that he is able to condense the key fundamentals of each situation such that even if you only remember the why of how you apply each technique you could use that to change exactly how you apply the technique and still be successful.
excellent technique, great video. Thanks
That was actually very good. I thought this was going to be boring given the 30 minutes timeframe but I was pleasantly surprised.
John is such a patient and respectful teacher. I hope to be as calm, cool and collected as he is someday.
So as a 3-stripe white belt, I tried this tonight. Whaddya know ... it WORKED!! Blue belt asked me after ... "how did you defeat my side control?" Worthy of a subscribe!
I am floored by John's teaching style, his content, and his capacity for professionalism. Holy friggin amazeballs Batman you got a golden guest.
thank you so much for sharing this! very much appreciated
Very clear explanation... well done and Thank you.
Thank you so much guys!
So good, can't wait to try this out tomorrow !!!!
Love this guys articulations !!
Great video. Thank you
I'm gonna re-watch this and drink every time John says stranglation.
LMAO ima actually do it
Sweet, thanks for the back escape.
I'm really happy I watched this! It was really valuable advice for getting started
Such a great teacher. Thank you, I wish it was that easy but I’ll keep trying.
WELL EXPLAINED AND VERY VALUABLE
Amazing video 🙏
Great video. I’m just starting and this gives good tools to train and review with. Thank you
My god he's so articulate, he does NOT miss a single detail. what an amazing teacher.
*Excellent instruction*
Top notch video!!!
This was super helpful and explained so well.
Danaher is just amazing his words flow like water and are impactful. Thank you for this video
Love love love this Video, this is definitely one of my go to videos. I must have watched it 20 or 30 times Every white belt should watch and pay close attention to this one. Thanks John.
Absolutely brilliant.
Awesome details!!
I’m watching this everyday of quarantine and drilling this. And when I get back to the gym I will try to perfect this.
John possui uma didática incrível. Parabens e muito obrigado. greetings from Brasil.
The teaching abilities of these two professors is synergistic and intoxicating.
thanks, I love the detailed vocal description.
Esta enseñanza es una joya! Obrigado Bernardo y John!
By far one of the best videos on BJJ out there. Thanks
This is by far the best info for white belts I’ve seen 👍
