    My dad was a bodybuilder and stayed in incredible shape all of his life. He was training people out of the house at 75. But from 75 to 81 he deteriorated quickly, and dementia took him the last three years of his life.
    Mother nature and father time are a hell of a tag team, and they're still undefeated.

      Adriano Stafford : Orndorff was on a colossal run with Hulk Hogan back in 1986 where they were selling out every arena in all of the WWF cities, as well as drawing over 60,000 at the CNE stadium in Toronto. When Orndorrf talks about "printing money with the man", he is talking about working on top with Hogan (the man) and making a ton of money all over the country. This was during the pre PPV era when the primary source of revenue was the live events. If you didn't work the arena shows, you did not get paid. Missing out on those once-in-career paydays was just not feasible for Orndorff so he worked through the injuries. He made a choice to sacrifice some physical health for the big pay checks. Whether or not that was a good decision is something only he could answer.

    • @philipclarke9696
      @philipclarke9696 3 года назад +7

      Despite the popular myth about opponents like Savage,DiBiase,Andre,etc, Orndorff made more money with Hogan than anyone with his matches with Hogan in 1984 and more specifically the second half of 1986. He could’ve retired off those paydays alone.

    He is legend. Whooping Vader in the shower shoes. My wonderful was always a favorite. I was a heel at heart before it was cool. Going to the matches rooting for the bad guys we got heat. The old ladies hated us kids. Ripping the crowd pulling for Pipper, Cowboy Orton. I too have sever neck injuries from the ARMY. I have muscle wasting. Tore all four tendons in both rotator cuffs. I have shredded biceps. For him to whip Leon with one good arm is amazing. It kills me to see him in his current state. I saw him in Fla championship wrestling. Gordon Solie. I love that I grew up in the real wrestling era. Mid South, Kamala, Dusty, JYD, Road Warriors, Race, Flair, Rock n Roll Express, Freebirds, Mid night Express and Cornette with mommas money. Mid Atlantic my buddy Ivan and Nakita. Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin. Black Jack, Barry and Kendal. Mr Wrestlings, Billy Jack Haynes, Freebird, Dick Murdoch, Dick Slader, The Fabs, The Four Hourseman, the Von Erichs and Buzz Sawyer. Just too name a few. I’ve been a fan my whole life. I later moved to Charlotte and worked out at Ricky Steamboats Gym. I was a boxer in the Army and loved working out at a real gym. I worked out with many wrestlers. Ivan and I got to be great friends. He was over at my house several times. I use to buy supplements from him and Ronnie Garvin. I met Sting and Lex at the gym through Ivan and many others. I always had aspirations of being a pro wrestler but I was too small at 5’8 163. I was all into boxing and had hopes of turning pro. I’ve now had 3 neck surgeries. My right arm was weakness and pain. I’m looking at a 4th neck surgery. I took a rifle blow to the head which messed up my neck. It paralyzed my pherinic nerve causing me to have a paralyzed diaphragm. I’ve been on oxygen 24/7. I’ve had plenty of time to watch wrestling and it pains me too see how bad the shows have become. I find myself a huge fan listening to you and Brian. I’m old school and guess I get more entertained out of shoot interviews. Love hearing about Haku, Shiek, Rick Rude and the Steiner brothers. Your analysis of wrestling is spot on. Thanks guys.

    One of my great wrestling memories is Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper causing a near riot in MSG at the end of the War to Settle the Score. Orndorff's intensity was off the charts putting the boots to Hogan and then Mr T and the late great Gorilla Monsoon on commentary. "Orndorff fighting security fighting everybody."
    May Paul find peace during his struggle.

    Five guys got me into wrestling in 1985: JYD, British Bulldogs, Tito Santana and Paul Orndorff. Paul was also the very first heel I ever worked myself into supporting when that SOB Hogan couldn't even be bothered to interrupt a workout to take Paul's call...

    Jim is right about the repetition of the slams and falls. It's why football lineman are more susceptible to CTE. It's said that every time that you see a flash of light when you take a hit to the head is a minor concussion.
    Wrestlers used to wear No Fear t-shirts that read "Pain is temporary, but the pride is forever" at tournaments in high school. Fuck that shit, I would rather be able to turn my neck normally now in my 40s than talk about how hard it was for me to get pinned.

    Orndorff's version of the Piledriver was the best in the business -- bar none! It was so much more brutal and vicious looking compared to Lawler's or Race's variation.
    One of my favorite memories is of Orndorff, during his monster heel run in '86, cleaning out a ring full of jobbers where he would grab their heads, shake them side to side, before placing their heads between his monster thighs and spiking them on the canvas. Just such a thing of beauty to witness as a 6 yr old!
    He was one of the best heels during the 80's -- which is really saying something when you think about how many awesome heels that were during that time period. He had the complete package -- great physique, fantastic worker, awesome ring psychology, accomplished athlete, legit bad ass, very physical -- but still very safe to work with etc. He was also one of Hogan's best opponents and brought out the best of him during their feud in 86'.
    Very sad news about his dementia :(
