That 1988 game 1 was a pretty good finish. I still remember it like it was yesterday. And what sucked for me was that I was in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in a dingy motel room, when it happened. I started the game sober, but after half a fifth of Black Velvet whiskey, I felt no pain. In the third inning, I said to myself, "Wouldn't it be cool if they let Gibson hit in the ninth inning and he hit a grand slam to win the game?"
Well, I _almost_ got it right!
After I emptied the rest of that whiskey, I was never louder in my life! And right after it happened, I opened the motel room door to cheer with others, but nobody had been watching the game! That's when I again realized that I was 3,000 miles from my hometown! Yeah, did I mention that I got hammered during that game?
I called my father, and we celebrated over the phone.
I'll never forget that day and night as long as I live, and I will never forget last night as long as I live.

I was born in Brooklyn and spent my first five years of my life there before moving out to Long Island. I became a Dodgers fan when I was 4 years old. My dad bought me a kid's Dodgers uniform and we went to all the games at Ebbets Field. We both hated the Yankees and the best World Series I ever saw was in 1955 when my Dodgers finally beat the damn Yankees after losing the first two games! The Dodgers became the only team to do that, too. Game 7 was amazing watching them shut out the Yanks!! I also got a chance to meet the team afterwards and had them sign a baseball. I thought I was dreaming! My hero was Duke Snider but I also remember Jackie Robinson, Roy Campenella, Gil Hodges, Pee Wee Reese, Carl Furillo and Jim Gilliam.
Watching this game brought back memories of those days and this game was every bit as entertaining as Game 7 in the '55 Series.

@@gmcsierra4889 Dodger fan here. Ive been bitching about many of the moves Dave Roberts have made thru the playoff years. Some real bad ones. In regards to 2020 I have said the only reason the Dodgers won that series against the Marlins was that their manager made an even bigger bonehead move than even Roberts would make. Tonight, I had that same thought, your manager really made a head scratching move. I mean, in that situation in the 10th with a stud in the bullpen, they put in a starter who hasnt pitched in 5 weeks? Man, I'm a Dodger, so I am glad it happened, but that was worse than anything Roberts would have done, and Roberts has no clue how to manage a bullpen. Well, until this year because he's been pulling the right strings lately. But what your manager did? Dude, that was criminal, he should be put in jail

I was there and almost caught Freddie's walk-off ball! It went between me and my wife who was sitting to my right. I tried to backhand it with my glove but it was just out of reach. It bounced off someone and in the scramble a young kid sitting behind us came up with it. The kid became an instant celebrity with everyone around us wanting to take pictures with him.

Someone explain to me why Boone thought loading the bases for Freddie was a good idea. First off, you put the winning run in scoring position. Second, you force Nester to throw strikes knowing if he walks anyone else, the game's over. Third, and most importantly, you piss off a very good hitter, giving him added motivation to come through. Then Nester throws a GRAPEFRUIT. Terrible call by Boone. That said, props to Freddie. Good game, overall!!!!

Lefty match up is a higher percentage for the lefty pitcher to win. You have to keep in mind Freddie hasn’t played for a while and has a hurt ankle, so the odds are in the Yankees favor. If you’re going to go down, you have to make the odds in your favor, but it was the right call match up wise but they messed up using Cortez a pitcher who hasn’t pitch in over a month.

@@rainbowhouse3427analytic approach, so let me give you some. Mookie was 0-3 at that point. He’s struggled recently against left handers. You walk him to get to a guy that has a triple already. With a pitcher who’s been out for a month
