The early Tyson (85-90), after 30+ years, is still the most studied boxer in history, imho. D'amato, and his protege, Kevin Rooney were boxing geniuses. And Tyson, with his speed, power, and agility, showcased the peek-a-boo style to literal perfection. What a combination those three were.
Indeed! Til this day my favorite boxer ever. The Peek-a-boo was also utilized by Floyd Patterson but Mike definitely perfected it and became the face of it. There hasn't been any boxer since him to implement this style, it's almost as if it was made for him and him only...lbs. I've studied Mike extensively, and didn't really notice this small detail until recently; not everyone can switch stances and be effective ...in fact most coaches forbid fighters from changing stances. There's another video on youtube with about 30 million views that dives even deeper into this strategy used by Mike!
Footwork and angles is the key 🔑 in Boxing. In my martial arts my teacher said your feet will get you outta trouble and even defeat your opponent so always think with your feet👊
Well done! I literally studied hundreds of hours studying mike Tyson. I would rewind a movement 30 times just to catch his subtle switches and weight distributions. I agree most people trying to teach his style are not correct and or add they’re own technical changes to the style. Your a true master of the science! Keep them coming
Most of us cant do what Tyson did cause we dont have Tysons attributes but we’re still awed by him and want to emulate as much as possible. I dont know if i can make it work but Im definitely going to try to implement this in my sparring. Thank you, coach!!
Maybe you can’t be knocking out heavyweights, but you can certainly fight like Mike Tyson regardless of your size as long as you are in excellent shape.
Tyson knew a lot of techniques, he also had well prepared trainers. Thanks Yankello you are teaching me interesting techniques, I'm too old to fight but I love boxing.
Love your gym! It is so old school, like gyms I used to train at years ago, nothing in these plasticky-septicky modern fitness studios can imitate the atmosphere of a real boxing gym.
Coach - Thanks for a great, in-depth analysis. Tyson’s ability to switch his stance as you have shown, along with head movement, hand speed and power, made him a formidable opponent. Thank you too, Coach Joe!
Great video ! It’s great practice for the left slip and liver punch/left hook , and also the shift onto the opponents right shoulder. Great detail keep the videos coming 👍
Mike Tyson’s knockout of Mark Young is my most favorite knockout of all time, especially when you consider how many punches Mark Young threw-Tyson bobbed and weaved all of them and threw one punch. And that was it.
this is amazing full body workout even without the bag (harder actually), add/reduce speed and power and it becomes like a HIIT training, I would say the best, thank you!
I wait for new challenges from Tom’s channel everyday. When they come I break them down as he shows them and take it in the gym that day, adding to my arsenal. I also practice each one I learned from the past at the same time, linking them together. Try it, you’d be amazed at how you begin to develop a style.

Brillant, excellent videos, explain very good the fantastic Peekaboo style of the legendary trainer Cus D'Amato. You have a new subscriber, please continue videos about Peekaboo, bye!
Coach do you believe that this kind of switches are possible even if your boxing stance is a classic sideways stance? What about the other side, right, switch? Tyson used to step over to his right and throw the overhand hand first instead of the the left hook or the left uppercut. LOMACHENKO steps over from both sides but he is punching fist with the opposite hand than Tyson did. Also Diamanté Verdejo uses these kind of switches a lot .. Thank you Coach great video!!!
Coach can you breakdown how to land the jab against a southpaw? Also without being countered by the left cross. Is seems like southpaw vs orthodox often turns out to be the battle of the rear cross and lead hook and the jab being neglected. Should the stance be a bit more square vs a lefty or the same bladed side stance?
Emilio X ruclips.net/video/8otYYMi_jO0/видео.html check this video out. I would not change your stance. I will do more videos on this subject in the future. Make sure you subscribe to the channel if you haven’t yet. Thanks!
Hi, Coach! Do you agree with this rule of thumb of mine? The Peekaboo/Tyson style is the best for a smaller fighter that is in the middleweight division or above. Thank you.
Awesome video cus doesn't get enough credit on his style of boxing, nor does Kevin Rooney thank God for you high lighting this style. Mike Tyson had the best footwork I've seen as did Roy Jones . Loma has great footwork currently. Can you do a breakdown of Ruiz, Joshua ? AJ defense is perfect for a good counter puncher to hurt him. How do you think Wilder would fare with Ruiz cause Wilder has problems with counter punchers as well
It worked so well for him cause of his low center of gravity and huge legs for most people I think his style will put them off balance often and easily
Is this basically what Loma does - except being a south paw (well - right handed but south paw fighting) and moving to the outside of more commonly orthodox fighters?
Hey coach, I do neck exercises with my head hanging off the edge of the bed but I get a slight dizziness and a slight headache. I want to continue to strengthen my neck but do you have any advice?

Great video, great camera work. Imagine being Mike's celly and pissing him off. I'm guessing he got the bottom bunk. I also think Mike would have taken Wilder's lunch money. He was so much better technique wise. Tight, fast and vicious. He would of taken away Wilder's length and cut him down. Went straight to my heavy bag to practice this. Thanks a lot.

0:10 shift and switch
Using footwork
0:40 throw jab /opponent bob inticipate rt hand
/ instead of common normal counter lft hook /I shift switch to southpaw
Landing 45 half uppercut /half hook
(or short range hook
1:35 tyson stance: neutral position
So he can switch/ move head
Sometimes he was rt handed/orthodox
But the closer he get /he start to turn neutral
2:25 when he jab /and sew guy boobing
I turn rt shoulder to rt shoulder (like slip )
then shift /throw my shot
3:05 mike doing it /move head when jab
3:55 on heavy bag /its about footwork
Stane: neutral /toes facing target
Shoulder traj change when turn / or slip :(dip )
like Iam in position to throw lft body shot if I dont shift
(or its a dip becz I am in position to throw body shot /its harder to pivot
after dip like that / its easier to pivot aftet slip
(But its ok to shift and switch /after dip or slip I think !!)
4:25 different shots :rt hook to head /body / or 45 shot
4:58 mike use windshield wipe movement / and draw the letter u
5:15 so I can mix it with the bob and weave too
Jab instead of winshield wiper then shift /I can bob n weave underneath
5:25 syncronize feet and shoulders when bobing
(and hands and feet and (shoulders !!)together when punching
(Turn rt shoulder to targert when weave / then lft shoulder to target again after shift too ) (like slip /windshield wiper too )
5:43 in position to throw lft hook when just slip /or weave
Rt shoulder and toes turn and point at target
After shift switch / lft shoulder point at bag /in position to throw rt hook
