Priceless! I first saw Leppard open for Nugent in 1980. We all bought those black World Tour t-shirts. I don't think a day went by for the next 5 years that one of us wasn't wearing that shirt! I probably saw them 30 more times in the 80's. I've been exposed to a lot of great music in the last 25 years but I whenever I listen to On Through the Night and High N Dry it still sounds great. I'm sure we've all moved on musically but man was this wonderful music to grow up with. RIP Steve.
I'm going on my 4th year of learning electric guitar (I'm 54). After 41 years this song is still one of my very favorites. I am finally able to play it!!¡ I didn't say I could keep up with it (yet) but I can play it. It is one of the coolest feelings in the world! The smile on my face is huge. Thank you Steve for being such an amazing guitar player and a bad a$$ influence on rock music!! 🎸
Yes, when they were good, high and dry, on through the night were great but once pyromania hit they started their down slide, a few good goods but the next album I was bummed
Rick Allen has made a brilliant success of his life, considering what he's had to overcome. He's a talented artist too. I love the pure concentration on his face in this video, so young and determined. Cameraman did a good job on this video too. And I wish I had Joe 's shirt!
Saw them on this tour. All under the age of 21, most in their teens. DL and the Scorpians opened for Ted Nugent on the Wango Tango tour. One of the best shows of my youth!
Thank you for posting this. It was a real treat. Rick Allen is too cute! Even then Steve was a superior musician. If you have anymore of these rareities I'd love to see them! wooooooo Do I feel old!
Great hard rock band that released 2 LP's worth listening to, first 2. Then they became MTV darlings, poured sugar all over their music and became CACA. Best tune: Wasted. Saw them open for JPriest on their 1st US tour, 79' and could relate to kids on stage rockin' their asses off. That nite after the show, met Pete while at a rock bar (The Old Buffalo- El Paso, TX), he was getting a pack of smokes from a machine, went up to him n chatted him up, very cool lad. Still have these 2 vinyls \m/
I was 4yrs old when this came out, but I still remember hearing this song on the radio..... I had my dad get this album so I could listen to it anytime I wanted..... that and my mom got tired of me repeating the same part over and over again.
This is awesome!! Look at the guys... They are just babies here ☺️. Joe with brown hair just doesn't seem right lol. Love these guys so much!! Wish we had more time with Steve. I 💟 DL!!!!
This was the first song I learned on guitar in '81, most ppl don't know about the " ON THROUGH THE NIGHT" album, They open for squire in 83 and closed that your head lining San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. That's when they blew up; this is before Mutt Lang .. Vivian Campbell played with Dio back in those days and did for years, I think DF holds back his chops.
Party with them all the time and they call all the time vip cast and crew bffs with all of them drummer and all and he has one arm and plays like an animal!!!!!!!! Love you rick
Believe me when I say that back in 80 when this album first came out it WAS NOT a failure, all of us into metal/rock had this album. Leppard along with Maiden, Saxon, Priest etc.... were leading the charge as far as the NWOBHM went. I saw them at the Oxford Apollo back in March/April 80 and they were 'kin Brilliant.
Joe,and I share the same Birthday! I love how Pete Willis had Guitars that were taller then him,as well as being! I'm pretty sure they weren't sure where their Band was even going,if anywhere! Love that "Fate & Destiny"!
It's so interesting to listen to old Def Leppard and the Di'Anno Iron Maiden and listen to how similar they were back in the day, and how differently they progressed. The biggest tragedy was Rick's arm... people blame the move toward "album-oriented rock" as what changed their sound but the accident definitely limited their sound. Def Leppard turned from your band to your sister's band in only a few short years.
I don't see that as a problem or a tragedy. All bands have to adapt and reinvent as musical tastes and trends are ever changing. It would be pretty sad if a band just stuck to one formulaic sound forever.
WOW...Talk about a trip down memory lane, thanks for putting this up I really liked it! I have always enjoyed the evolution of the band, it has been a most amazing journey that I have loved watching unfold and grow into the amazing band they were then and ARE now! Cheers boy's and to you to Archive625 !
@TheProgtologist my mom told me her first concert was that same Squier/Leppard tour in MA. NWOBHM is awesome. i love this sound of Def Leppard (and their later sound) and Maiden and Saxon is SOOO underrated!
I seen these guys do this song at Cleveland stadium in July of 1980. It was funny because they were a metal band when they started and were the only metal band there that day. The other bands there were Eddie Money, J Geils band, and Bob Seger as the headliner. What a contrast. Being a 70's hard rock/heavy metal 17 year old, I was lovin it.
Unfortunately, Steve Clark's life = lyrics ( But a bottle of whiskey lies heavy obstructing my view I've got a bottle of pills to give me my thrills And I know I'm leading a life that kills)
Definition of American Rock! In high school we all were going, "These guys are our age, wtf is that about!" We played as good but were in a basement, they were touring England
I was just 11 when my friends and I did Wasted in an air band skit for our middle school talent show! It was awesome, for being 1979 and the girls went nuts even for just an air band show. We had the guitars and drums and mike just like the vid! Just awesome for being back then.
I saw these guys open for Blackfoot in Denver at the old Rainbow. It was a double show and Blackfoot screwed them by having them open the first show at 7:00 and then close the second show at about midnight. They were royally pissed off but played an incredible second show anyway! I wish they had stayed with the harder rock of their first album but I don't think they have any regrets!
Two of my favourites. I love mainly the first seven Iron Maiden albums and the first three Def Leppard records. I can see the connection in their early stuff. They both came from the NWOBHM.
I remember when this album first came out. I was like 11 my friends and I did an air band talent show using Wasted as our first song! It was great....!
I remember the lads playing this song to win the Radio Hallam Rocks competition, they were up against a strong line up of bands that year, what ever happened to Glenn Marples and the boys of Panzer Division,?? they were so sure they were going to walk this competition, luckily it was Def Leppard that won..
Comments are like 2 yrs old....this is an all time classic rock album. I bought a classic Def Leppard album, On Through The Night mostly so I could hear Wasted in the raw.
You notice how he said before all the "Hysteria," he was making a joke, saying that this was both before the album Hysteria and before all the commotion and divided fanbase it caused.
Thanks for posting! Never seen this before. They are miming to the single release of the song, which was recorded before the debut album. They did some awesome sessions on the Friday Rock Show in 1979 and I eagerly awaited the album, but the production was very poor and it was a massive let-down. Still, they more than made up for it with High 'n Dry.
@109Thunder You know I was just thinking of an old interview where Joe was saying this was the worst stuff they ever released because of the boozing. In my opinion this stuff is what defines Def, not Pour some shit on me.
There's a recent interview where they said they played this at a recent show. The audience was silent. With only a handful in the audience went crazy.
I am still Astonished when Steve Clark is not mentioned among the Greatest Guitar Players of all time!! He was simply put "Awesome"!!!!!!!!!!
Watchmojo.com had a top 10 underrated guitarists list, and Steve was # 7 I think.
kenslizzard yes he was😎😍🎸
+Rachel Brown he should have been #1
number 9 he should have been put at number 1
kenslizzard Fuck those stupid lists. We all know the truth. RIP Steven Clarke
Priceless! I first saw Leppard open for Nugent in 1980. We all bought those black World Tour t-shirts. I don't think a day went by for the next 5 years that one of us wasn't wearing that shirt! I probably saw them 30 more times in the 80's.

Now this was Def Leppard !!!
Yes, when they were good, high and dry, on through the night were great but once pyromania hit they started their down slide, a few good goods but the next album I was bummed
This was my favorite Def Leppard album. It is a shame they never play any of this music live.
It's amazing to believe that Rick Allen is like 15-16 in this.
@Nick Monkton
They all look good for their age.
Ya he was so young they had to sneak him in thru the back entrances of the bars to play their gigs.
He had just turned 15 from what I understand! Amazing. Look at him now. ThunderGod 🔥
He is born 1965 so i think he is only 14 !!
Rick Allen has made a brilliant success of his life, considering what he's had to overcome. He's a talented artist too. I love the pure concentration on his face in this video, so young and determined. Cameraman did a good job on this video too. And I wish I had Joe 's shirt!
Pete Willis days. The best era
I sure miss Steve Clark too!
Saw them on this tour. All under the age of 21, most in their teens. DL and the Scorpians opened for Ted Nugent on the Wango Tango tour. One of the best shows of my youth!
R.I.P Steve Clark. Hard to believe he's been gone nearly 22 yrs :(
Thank you for posting this. It was a real treat. Rick Allen is too cute! Even then Steve was a superior musician. If you have anymore of these rareities I'd love to see them! wooooooo Do I feel old!
This could be an early Paul Dianno Iron Maiden song, it would fit well in a set with songs like "Prowler" and "Running Free."
Or Wrathchild.
Or "Killers..."
Nikki Bella boyfriend's
both Joe and Paul's mannerisms are similar also.
Omfg..thats what i just thought...

Awesome video, I loved it when they were a Rock band & not a Pop band, long live Pete & Steve.
I was 4yrs old when this came out, but I still remember hearing this song on the radio..... I had my dad get this album so I could listen to it anytime I wanted..... that and my mom got tired of me repeating the same part over and over again.
Also, you can just tell Steve Clark wrote this song. :-)
Total classic, thank you so much for uploading!
steve clark is so under rated as is def leppard this early stuff great
This is awesome!! Look at the guys... They are just babies here ☺️. Joe with brown hair just doesn't seem right lol. Love these guys so much!! Wish we had more time with Steve. I 💟 DL!!!!
they were realy awesome musicians back then...great songs throughout
This was the first song I learned on guitar in '81, most ppl don't know about the

They all look so young!!! I LOVE Steve's solo!
Thanks for uploading this. Def Leppard was great before Hysteria, and never the same band since, unfortunately. This really takes me back.
I was 17 when Hysteria came out, unfortunately my first encounter with the bad. Great music to get drunk to, though
Party with them all the time and they call all the time vip cast and crew bffs with all of them drummer and all and he has one arm and plays like an animal!!!!!!!! Love you rick
Wasted❤
Happy 54th birthday Pete Willis!
Not enough credit for being part of NWOBHM 1ST two albums are beyond solid and can hold their own with any other NWOBHM
Carlos Alarcon @
omg. best video of all time.
LOL the outfits are awseome:-P This is probably one of the greatest and most underrated songs. RIP Steve Clark.
Believe me when I say that back in 80 when this album first came out it WAS NOT a failure, all of us into metal/rock had this album. Rick Savage 19
Joe Elliott 20
Rick Allen 16
Steve Clark 19
Pete Willis 19
I covered this song every night 1980 Tampa Fla. Fallen Angel
Joe,and I share the same Birthday! I love how Pete Willis had Guitars that were taller then him,as well as being! I'm pretty sure they weren't sure where their Band was even going,if anywhere! Love that "Fate & Destiny"!

I lived this song from 83-87....no wonder I loved this band
d
Steve's solo just blew my mind.
Sure brings back memories! Great post!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOREVER AND A DAY TO SEE THIS LIVE VIDEO PERFORMANCE....CHEERS FOR THE UPLOADER!!!
After all these years it's the On Through The Night album that I like the best.
Love it, I think I'm going insane. How cool, live, and Wasted. Sincerely, Elizabeth G,
Go Pete Go!
This is GREAT!!
Man wish I could go back in time cos I'd go see these dudes back then. Very iron maiden feel.
Rick's drumming pretty well, in that blouse.
That's what I was thinking!
They were in their teens, or just past that age. Heck of an album!
Such a great track and they are all so young here.
Wow! One of my favorite Def Leppard songs! Thanks for posting!
good god Rick Allen was my age when this album came out
@TheProgtologist my mom told me her first concert was that same Squier/Leppard tour in MA. NWOBHM is awesome. i love this sound of Def Leppard (and their later sound) and Maiden and Saxon is SOOO underrated!
I didn't know there were any pre-1980 Def Leppard vedios out there!
Thanks!
I seen these guys do this song at Cleveland stadium in July of 1980. It was funny because they were a metal band when they started and were the only metal band there that day. Just AMAZING!! Thank you!!!!!
Rick's flying v bass is awesome; Def Leppard Rules!
Steve's song brilliant!
this is the original def leppard, the best def leppard, steve clark, pete willis joe elliot rick savage and rick allen
Unfortunately, Steve Clark's life = lyrics
( But a bottle of whiskey lies heavy obstructing my view
I've got a bottle of pills to give me my thrills
And I know I'm leading a life that kills)
Very, very sad. This song was Steve's composition.
EXCELENTE VIDEO INEDITO. QUE FELIZ ME HA HECHO. RECORDAR ES VIVIR
Wow! I pride myself on being an ultimate Def Leppard fan and I am shocked that I have NEVER seen or heard this!! WoWW!
Definition of American Rock! In high school we all were going, "These guys are our age, wtf is that about!" We played as good but were in a basement, they were touring England
@TheProgtologist Saw that same show. Irvine Meadows. They were the whole reason I ever got into playing music!!!
Brilliant early footage. Got this album on vinyl and often give it loads. Many thanks for posting....
I'm glad that I got to grow up with this!!!!
I was just 11 when my friends and I did Wasted in an air band skit for our middle school talent show! It was awesome, for being 1979 and the girls went nuts even for just an air band show. We had the guitars and drums and mike just like the vid! Just awesome for being back then.
HOLY SMOKES!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ AND THAT IS WHY STEVE IS THE BEST!!!!! MISS YOU!!!! LOVE YOUR GIRL FOREVER MICHELLE 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Very NWOBHM here.
Absolutely. This could honestly pass for Dianno-era Maiden here. Wow.
Yet Elliott keeps insisting "we were never a 'eavy Metal band, mate"
Damn...that's EXACTLY what I was thinking when I saw this for the first time...and I dig Di'Anno era Maiden, too!
Nikki Bella new boyfriend's
Best Def Leppard song ever.
was there when they opened up 4 ozzy!!! love them!1
I saw these guys open for Blackfoot in Denver at the old Rainbow. It was a double show and Blackfoot screwed them by having them open the first show at 7:00 and then close the second show at about midnight. Tremendous song!
First time i hear Def Leppard, its the first song for me. Very good.
I'm tagging it as a favorite. This is some of the stuff that made me need to start playing guitar.
Two of my favourites. I love mainly the first seven Iron Maiden albums and the first three Def Leppard records. I can see the connection in their early stuff. They both came from the NWOBHM.
Absolutely love this
the REAL def leppard
Forgot about this one! Song still rocks...
I LOVE STEVE's RAINBOW OUTFIT!! Thanks for giving us a great video.
Recall seeing them around this time supporting AC/DC on the highway to hell tour in the U.K. Great memories.

MAN! This surely is RARE!
Thanks so much for posting! Where did this came from?!

I remember when this album first came out. I was like 11 my friends and I did an air band talent show using Wasted as our first song! It was great....!
Amazing isn't it? Just seeing this freakes me out. I also have never seen this footage so it is extra awesome. Total Rock..........

they had the look , not the money, rip the riffs tho...what a classic
You're right, it does suck, but at least he's still around to make the choice....My heart is still broken over Steve Clark and Freddie Mercury!!!!!
Comments are like 2 yrs old....this is an all time classic rock album. I bought a classic Def Leppard album, On Through The Night mostly

love you sav
You notice how he said before all the "Hysteria," he was making a joke, saying that this was both before the album Hysteria and before all the commotion and divided fanbase it caused.
No WAY this is awesome I had NO idea they played like this!
I've loved these guys for years!
n00b comment.Vivian Campbell didn't join until after Steve Clark's death. The guitarists in this vid are Steve "Steamin" Clark(RIP) and Pete Willis.
I never knew this existed!
Pretty cool stuff.
Thanks for posting! Never seen this before. They are miming to the single release of the song, which was recorded before the debut album. Still, they more than made up for it with High 'n Dry.
You thought On Through the Night was a massive let-down? They were only teenagers and it was a solid album!
I have the album "first strike" bought it in Alabama in 1982.
Wesley King but it was issued in 85
@109Thunder You know I was just thinking of an old interview where Joe was saying this was the worst stuff they ever released because of the boozing. In my opinion this stuff is what defines Def, not Pour some shit on me.
The is the best old school music it's nostalgic.
History. pure History.
The blonde guy was not Vivian Campbell. It was STEVE CLARK.
Thank you for this.
