    Love this album. Never heard it before. I’m 61 and got their first official album On Through The Night when it was released. Became an instant fan. Then when High ‘n’ Dry was released Def Lep became one of my all time favorites with Bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Sabbath. Unfortunately, they sold out at that time. I always wished they had held out longer. So now with this album although a bunch of the songs are on High ‘n’ Dry I finally got to hear a few more real Def Lep songs. Thank you!

    I’ve got this one on vinyl,bought it around 1984. Apparently it was never supposed to be released. It was in record stores for only a couple weeks. The band found out it was released,got pissed off and pulled it off the shelves. If you have an original copy, you’re lucky. I’m the only person ,that I’m aware of that has an original copy. Obviously other people have it. But it is a rare one.

    I love this demo album. First Strike was issued commercially in 1984 but the band pulled It from the market due to legal complications Cause apparently It wasn’t authorized. Joe says he hated the way that it sounded.....well if you compare it to Mutt Lange productions yeah I can understand but the songs on this demo sound better than those that appear on On Through The Night. The Sorrow versión her kills the official release......actually all the versions here sound incredible. They should really release it because it sounds like a band that doesn’t need a slick production to kick ass.

      I love the passion in your comments ma' man...But I must disagree about the production value between the two albums! Those tracks that were re-produced for the "On Through The Night" album, were so much better! I can understand why Joe hated the way that they sounded on "First Strike". Bigger budget, better studios, better producer(s), better engineers = better production value! Just my opinion, of course!

  • @robcard8394
    @robcard8394 Год назад +4

    This album (1st Strike) basically, later became their real first album {On Through the Night}< This album (On Through...) showed what good production and a good producer can do to elevate talent. Take for example the track "When the walls came tumbling down"....The version on first strike sounds like a basement demo...
    But when Producer: Tom Allom
    and
    Studio Personnel, Engineer: Louis Austin
    and
    Studio Personnel, Engineer: Dick Plant
    got their collective hands on it. It became probably the 2nd or 3rd best song on the album (On Through...)?
    Juxtapose the two albums and you can clearly see the improvements!
    Just my opinion people. Thank You!

    Rick isn't playing the drums. It's their first drummer Tony Kenning. These are demos recorded before OTTN with their first management. When Pyromania hit big the first management group tried to cash in but were quickly stopped. A few of these albums got out though. This is Def Leppard as Joe's would suggest.
