$2400 for that jesus... the black undercoat shows through the orange and it's not even neatly painted
Bro, the paint job was SO bad for the price. I got a ONCE in a lifetime deal, 1,200 points of Ad Mech Pro painted for $400. The guy needed to sell the army. Compared to this, I got a $5,400 job lol
I was watching this thinking oh this is kind of bad but I thought it was just me. Moment he said the price I checked the comments. I kind of feel bad because I feel like they got ripped off. Most common painters I know don't even charge for building and some include magnatizing or pinning oprions in the regular price.
Yeah I was surprised. My Etsy page has better painted models. Basically they charged a dollar a point. I could’ve smashed out that army in a day or two at that quality
@@skerfrigma7678 They likely didn't get ripped off or actually pay anywhere near that, they're sponsored by Golden Standard Studios (as seen in previous videos on the channel), if they didn't get it done free, then very likely a hefty discount and that would have been the price for normal customers, this whole thing comes across suspiciously as a big advert which went horribly wrong.
@@Cerviathrax even more of a reason for them to put extra time into their work if they are a sponsor. this paint job from a commission service is embarrassing.
I’m guessing Level 1 is the minis still on the sprues but lightly sprayed with base coats
Deybrushed without a primer more like it
paint job urks me I can see the primer under the orange still.....
This painting placement had the opposite of positive advertising
Agreed, they got the ole 1 thin coat instead of 2 lol.
@@deleriom thin coats are great but 2 or 3 will cover the model with no bleed through or at least base with a brown underneath.....basic painting
@@gundam1 for all commission painters unfortunately
@@gundam1 according the the studio that painted it, this video got them booked up for a couple months. crazy that people thought this was good enough to spend money on.
If you ever need motivation as a beginner painter, bookmark this video and be reminded of what people are willing to pay for.
Wait.. you paid for that paintjob?
There's a lot of corners cut there..
I thought the same. As a ex commission painter even the lvl4 would be my base tier. I may go back into commission work.
@@thorinwhitewolf1213 id be disappointed if I where charged for that. There's a lack of basic definition even
@@thorinwhitewolf1213 they at least should've put a wash, contrast paint or dry brush on.
@@thorinwhitewolf1213 you should, if you can get people to pay it.
@@thorinwhitewolf1213 a YT channel is a must so you can create your own exposure. Otherwise people might not feel they are getting value because they are sending a mini to random dude instead of x channel with a decent following
Guess I am a pro painter now.. Who wants some stuff painted? I just got new markers!!
i was feeling bad about my painting skills then i saw this and it made me feel a lot better about my quality
This is the painting equivalent of the “fitness of my passion” meme
The wings look like a wash over a base coat.
And a sloppy one at that. Way too heavy they didn't even bother to control the shade or stop unwanted pooling -_-
Yeah, super basic. Gold standard my ass
@Tom Hughes that's literally how I did it when I started. Keep in mind I was a 7th grader who hadn't painted before and my capes/wings were that level with my like 2 brushes that I damaged cuz I didn't know how to properly clean them
2400 is more then all of my warhammer stuff for the past 10 years... and I own many big armies...
The painting standard on these is super sub-par... Wouldn't be happy to pay for that all. I'd hate to see level 1!
level 1is a single pass with the base coat spray from 24 inches away.
@@gundam1 @99r0 24 inch paint brush, just to clarify
@@StudioSerinn I meant a single pass of a spray can from 24 inches away, so even less effort
Well, I've seen your unboxing of the Blood Angels from eBay and therefore was aware that your standards referring paint jobs is not the highest to say at least but these are pretty bad for being done by a "professional" paint studio. I looked up the tier definition from a local studio I know and their Tier 1 is: Clean Basic Colors and Shadows, no detailed faces or freehand decals.
All the models shown in this video are at least Tier 2 and nearly every model does not even fulfills the "Clean Basic Colors" premise.
At 4:58 there is not even paint under the skull.
6:17 This would be ok for someone visiting his first painting session in a Warhammer Store but not for a studio I payed money for!
At 11:25 there is orange on his black coat and black on the orange patches. Even his left arm has orange on it. I would at least expect the paint to be on only the things where it belongs.
13:13 Is said to be lvl 3, the second highest the shop offers. There is fleshcolor on the grip of the whip and blue on the metal part. The bone sting has no color on some spaces. The black strap over the orange cloth has orange on it. This is not acceptable for the promised lvl of the paintshop. Again at 13:30 several spaces without paint on the cloak, on a lvl 3 commisioned painting!
14:45 The feature Yvraine on their FB page and on their pictures you can see that even this lvl 4 paintjob is not clean. There is red on the metal spikes of her fan and the gold applications on neck and shoulders aren't clean either. Overall the level of detail and highlighting is way to low for the highest tier offered.
I don't know if this video is a cooperation with the studio but I don't see this convincing anyone to pay them to paint their armies.
These paint jobs are....rough. To have paid for this I’d be real friggin unhappy. Undercoat showing through on the orange, lots of pooling and tide marks on the flesh. If you’re happy then go wild but man that’s a criminally underwhelming result...
Some of the oranges were rough, because they were applied on top of black, but if they are happy with it, that's all that matters
@@atlas6538 One coat of tan before the orange and it would look fine but the paint was slopped across the metal and the eye painting bled onto the helms.
@@greenbloodcrusade1378 just say they eye painting bleed is OSL - job done ;)
Yeah pretty sure all of the skin just had contrast slapped on it, and the paintjobs aren't even neat. Kinda knew this would be the result considering the quality of figures in the advertisement. Some of the dice check guys would probably be able to achieve a better result painting their own stuff.
@@lochiehayes6522 Yea I'm not too sure how impressed Bricky was
Ouch.... That’s “eBay pro painted” level right here
*look at the wings* - the wings having a wash equivilant to mine on my first ever squad.....
You are giving eBay pro painted a bad rep, what I get from eBay is so much better
@@gundam1 couldnt agree more. i feel offended by this video and im in the commission business for like 2 months.....
Dameki's "ye" made me so happy after a shitty day
there should be like a "ye"
speechbubble in the video for when he says it like that :))
Wait 2400 dollars? The orange is not even painted in an even coat.
Please guys check out the quality of other studios.
It really just looks like Orange, Abbadon Black, shade, highlight, done. Not that big of a fan of the paint job :/
I'm getting Blue Table Painting flashbacks as I watch the video...
I was thinking the same, and even some of the line work is a little messy. All the flesh is just a Contrast coat over the primer/undercoat too. At their second highest tier, they should have some additional highlights, or even just a better application of the Contrast. Then again, should any studio charging 2400 be using Contrast?
@@beejay_1015 tier 4 looks quite good imo but i can imagine it costing a shit ton ... the flesh is fine for the grotesque or whatever their name is and i guess in comparison to the orange on tier 2 its pretty good but i feel like they miss so much of the hobby by commissioning stuff
@@paulpan-yt Dameki has actually really enjoyed painting his models and he painted his whole death guard army insanely well. I don't think they are missing out on the hobby, they are just making way more armies at once than they otherwise could.
Covid 19: exists
Dicecheck: im gonna put this in my mouth
I am appalled that the commissioned studio apparently doesn't have an airbrush, they'd get much smoother application of colour AND save themselves time on the painting side of things, the quality you have been given for a 'professional' company is dreadful.
$2400 for this is pretty steep, depending on how much work had to go into it. I dabble in commissions and only really do it for friends. I'd like to see the breakdown of these prices. If these needed to be built and painted etc, that's not super unreasonable just because there's a lot to do. But for the paint quality this is pretty underwhelming. There were obviously a lot of corners cut in certain aspects. Some of the vehicles and heroes look nice but the wings and capes are clearly just primer or base coat + contrast or wash. It's also a little hard to tell on camera vs in real life. Which is fine depending on what you paid for them...but it looks like those are pretty low-quality overall. $2400 this seems steep :/
I think others reading these comments need to consider a few things before judging commission prices too harshly, as well. Remember, this is a "skilled" job and as such, commands a higher price than minimum wage. You are paying the painter bc you either don't have the time to paint them yourself, the talent to paint them well enough, or both. So, instead, you pay $$ instead of put in time and effort. I estimate and try to pay myself $20/hr for commissions which is extremely low for a "skilled art job". With that in mind, that means that I would be putting in roughly 120 hours on this project. That is 3 full work weeks, at least. That also includes packaging all this stuff, shipping it, and negotiating etc. That's not completely unreasonable, but the end result is...not great...
For the record, I painted four of Bricky's tanks (the black and white ones, not the super heavy) and that's what I would consider "acceptable" without cutting too many corners. And I charged him fairly reasonably for those, in my opinion. I think it was around $300 for two Leman Russes, a Chimera, and a Wyvern + crew. Already built. And I think those look WAAAAAY better than most of these.
there are basic time saving techniques that commissioners (espcially a "studio") should be using, like assembly line techniques and batch painting. airbrush to prime and basecoat then brush for details and highlights/shading. it should not take two weeks to paint that to that level. they did everything by brush and it's really sloppy. breaking it down by the hour is no excuse. a better quality can be done in a few days for that price.
The orange streak marks on the large panels of the planes is awful, not smooth at all. Whoever you paid to do these did it entirely by brush by the looks of things...
wow, i would be embarrassed if I were Gold Standard Studios. I would be pissed if i paid 2400 and this is what i got back. this is not a good showing at all for a commission painting studio lol. big oof. i get that painting a whole army takes a long time. but this paint job is not worth paying for. everything under "level 3" was unacceptable for commission work at that price. i cant imagine what level 1 is.
That’s poor quality for over 2 and half grand
Painting a whole army can be daunting... well normally you dont buy the entire thing in one go and need to paint 100 Models all at once xD
You can see gaps and mold lines on their lvl 4s...
Fiver warhammer figures are always interesting
painting miniatures can be very fun and rewarding. i would like to encourage anyone watching this video to try it. there are many informative channels on youtube and you might find it doesn't take that much to achieve the level shown in this video
my first army was essentially at this level lol
Honestly guys, if you think this is great and soooo time saving... just use contrast paints. 50$ and you've got a whole army "to super high woooooow standard" according to y'all's preferences.
don't insult contrast paint like that, it is very helpful for newer painters!
@@michael83479 literally the reason why I suggest it to them though? I'm not insulting it, it is a pretty good tool for exactly people like the Dice Check crew. Definitely not one for professional paintjobs worth that much cash if it isn' t even applied well.
[ commission painter clicks on video ] : "Jesus... I NEED to raise your prices"
You may need to report that company to child services as they obviously have 3 year olds painting for them.
I find this, exactly when I start looking into drukhari
I love how happy you guys are getting into 40k. It reminds me of where I was 10+ years ago. Happy New Year!
After Seeing these models in person, they are insanely well-painted
Theyre tabletop ready at best but the orange is what made it look good
@@Xarl-VIII Do you know what tabletop ready means? It just means basecoat & wash with something simple done to the base. With the exception of maybe the troops, these are all pretty clearly above tabletop ready standards.
Adam Hanson they haven't been washed, its contrast paint. The paint job isn't even clean, level 3 is probably tts, but the rest, for 2.4k, is appalling.
@@adamhanson5565 Tabletop is generally a lot more than just a basecoat, a wash, and base work. These standards tend to change, but it was popularised by 'at least 3 colours, fully painted base with some texture.'
All of this work is above tabletop standard though still. I love the colour scheme.
hey, hey jonp
you're a handsome man
The application of the orange isn’t even uniform with undercoat seeping through. This paint job is incredibly average and I would say fairly unacceptable for that price. If you are happy with this and the money spent, fair enough but to pretend as if this is a fair price for this level of painting and advertise their services as such is just unacceptable.
EDIT: I will say this is a tonne of models painted and the time saved might (in some scenarios) be worth the investment but I ultimately stand by my point here. To pretend like this is good commissioned work is ridiculous.
You Guys have a commisioned painter on your discord. That did send multible pictures in of its work. And you did get this made for 2400$?
I would have been cheaper and it would have looked better....
Sponsorship...
If anyone has problems with orange like this painter, search for tutorials using PINK as base coat. I am not kidding. It makes the application of the orange layer smooth and vibrant.
Do you think that would help with yellows too?
I like the color scheme. The vibrant orange looks real good. I really like this content of unboxing painted armies. This one is commissioned but also liked the ebayed blood and dark angels. In retrospect those two armies were a real bargain.
8:23 how do you get the "x" shape in the "+" hole?
I'm hoping one of these days, one you guys will decide to start up a Craftworld army. I'd love to see my favorite faction in action here.
Me too but craftworlds are boring right now. All flyers and shit and no real use of Aspect Warriors. GW needs to fix that shit.
I think Matt has been talking about playing them
@@Walkerxy Yeah.... Craftworld is my favorite, but boy they're in such a bad place right now, I'm really praying their codex does something to help them out.
@@DarkLordRevan38 give dire avengers and banshees soeace marine stat lines. Thatd be nice
Dear Dice check team: this studios quality is POOR.
I don't mean to put down anyone personally, but I feel like you let youselves get scammed. The quality is BAD :
uneven color application all over the models, no proper face details, almost no blacklining, badly and rarely set highlights, horrible application of certain contrast colors.
This has been a severely rushed job at best and there are other WAY BETTER studios out there, that will be able to compete in the same price range but with immensly better results. Please do not continue with this studio.
I mean well.
1000% agreed. Hell they could have sent them to me in the uk and I'd have charged less!
100%! I would feel scammed too if that was my army
You got a recommendation for a good one?
@@relic24998 uk based? Miniature realm studios 100000000%
@@relic24998 I trieda few for single models and one premium one (Siege Studio). Results where as expected but a bit soul less (quality on point though), but the interaction was horrible. They were very quick with the sales process and then proceeded to heavily postpone doing my models (it took more than triple the time they advertised). I got very frustrated.
There might be really good ones out there for sure, but imagine having this job. Jo will either produce bad paint jobs due to lack of time or take ages to do all the models. If there is no solid reason for really needing to use commision work, i would highly advice anyone on doing it themselves. Over covid, I got really good at using oil colors over basicpaint shemes. Its quick, cheap and produces incredible results.
Sorry for the long answer.
Tldr: Used a few, bigger comission at Siege studios UK BUT:
Pick timely but bad results or quality with slow results.
Very nice looking army. I would recommend you check out Lorehammer episode 60 - Haemonculi Covens. Its really cool information for an army that runs the Haemonculi and Wracks like you do. This is a good army comp and I can't wait to see it on the table top.
I’m here for the memes and they never disappoint
oof that orange not even covering primer
guys...i love you...love the content...but drop the sponsor, the paintjob is not "ugly" its leaps and bounds better than anything I could produce, but its NOT worth the amount of money you payed, the "quick tabletop standard tutorial" paintjobs i see from midwinter minies look just as good or better, hell, brickys sisters army looks just as good or better . These minies do NOT look professionaly painted, they look good...but not professional by any stretch of the imagination.
Goldstandard is your sponsor and its not working, if i could afford $2500 us to have my minies painted i sure as hell would not go to them for it
Honestly unless you have a condition affecting your hand eye co ordination or your motor skills i promise you that given a bit of time you could achieve this level. There are no techniques used here at all, it's all base coat, wash and if you're lucky a highlight. Literally all you need is a steady hand and patience
No, this paint job is fucking ugly. I'm a brand new painter and I paint better than this. "Luke" should watch a few painting academy tutorials or he's going to need to find a new business. No Highlights, No weathering, No shading, 3 colours on most models. Pooled washes, no shading. This is below beginner tier.
They don't even look good with the tide marks and undercoat bleeding through
2400!!?!?! Jesus Christ that is way too expensive.

next time go to siege studios, they are incredible
I felt that the meme and joke edits made this feel so cheap.
If it saved him time and he’s happy with the work then it’s value for him and met his expectations. I’ve thought about commission painting to get some HQ and elites done think I’ll have to save up some more.

"I like their helmets more than craftoworld helmets"
Yeah, CWE designs being from the 90s (if not the Rogue Trader era) probably played a role there. Plus, the 2010 DEldar rework was absolutely magnificent.
I’d make a drukharii army, but only of the kabalite sect, I think they look so cool and have that WoW demon hunter aesthetic
well i mean it fits the jagged "effed up" drukhari look pretty well i´d say
Glad your happy with them but honestly I hope you didn't pay a lot.
The undercoat is showing through quite a few pieces, colors are overlapping on the wrong parts, arm guards as an example that need touching up, the vehicles show brushmarks and the lvl 4 hemonculus as an example is just washed poorly with pooling.
It's a shame when commission work comes back like this.
Wash standard studios. Charges extra for second coat and highlights.

Im just amazed that they sent you these models as an advertisement plug, The paint jobs you guys have done yourself are better. Paint is too thick, it's not neat either. The only thing going for the army is the pain job is consistent among all the models, though from what i gather the level 3 and 4 stuff is supposed to look better (it doesn't). They even missed the eyes on the incubi and painted the face, that's such a basic mistake, i cant even.
