    Guns like this make sense to me. If a gun is chambered in a pistol caliber it's just logical that it should feed from pistol magazines, and if it's fed from pistol magazines it's just logical that it should also have pistol controls.

    I've had one for a few months and ZERO failures. Prints .7" groups @ 25 yards with cheap 230 gr. blazer ammo all day long so I imagine 200 yard man size silhouette targets would be cake with the right optic. Takedown and reassembly can be done in seconds and when folded it's tiny. There's three ways to release the bolt, right thumb bolt release lever, right forefinger button or simply pull the bolt back. This thing is pure beef and almost all metal, but for those who complain, the Ruger is still 2 lbs. lighter than a Thompson. As a reloader, I'm looking forward to developing some loads utilizing some slower burning powders to take advantage of the 16" barrel that might be considered "too dirty" in a standard 5" barrel. The only downside I've experienced so far is an erratic trigger pull from 5 lbs 5 oz to well over 11 lbs, but thinking that a good flush with some gun scrubber and at worse a little stoning can cure it. One thing that wasn't mentioned is that if you remove the stock, there's a hole for a cleaning rod so clean it from the breech. Also, the manual states that it is +P rated, but I wonder if the .45 Super with the stronger case could be used.... On that note, this carbine with .460 Rowland conversion would be a freakin' monster and would put the 10mm cartridge to shame. That could crack an engine block much less a charging bear, talk about about self-protection camp carbine!

    • @eosjoe565
      @eosjoe565 2 месяца назад +2

      I've had mine a couple weeks and agree on the accuracy. Mine feeds anything I can stuff in the mag. About that hole in the back for a cleaning rod. Why didn't they make it large enough to accept a .45 cal jag? I'm wondering if the 5.7 version has the same small hole. I also agree on the trigger. It could definitely be a tad lighter but it doesn't seem to detract from the accuracy. Did you notice in the manual the note to fill a small well below the hammer with grease? That's a bit different.

    • @SuperRamcharger
      @SuperRamcharger 2 месяца назад +1

      @@eosjoe565 I DID NOT see that note in the manual, I'll have to check that out. And yes, I have to put the rod through the hole and thread the jag on, but the patch would get pulled off coming through the back of the receiver anyway so not too big a deal.

      Use 4227 and CFE BLK for your carbine length .45. Charge to whatever your recoil spring can handle. I think I began workups at 7.0 gns, but I was using a different rifle than you have. Avoid 296/110. PS, the 185 Fudd slugs was a plus for range and velocity. Less mass to push out.

    I bought one of these a couple weeks ago. I am very impressed. It is extremely accurate. I mounted a Holosun HS503CU and sighted mine in with for 25 yds as that is the effective range at which it is most likely to be used. From a supported position (not bench rest) it basically just made one ragged 1-inch hole in the target. I shot a little over 100 rds, a combination of several brands of 230 FMJ, 230 JHP and 185 +P JHP and everything was accurate and fed 100% reliably across 8 different Glock magazines. I only have one gripe, Ruger had the forethought to mill a hole in the end of the receiver to accept a cleaning rod so you can clean the bore from the breach. But... the hole is too small to pass a .45 cal jag! Huh? I'm wondering if it's the same hole used for the 5.7 version. :-)

      I had an Uzi in the 80’s.
      The mag goes in the grip. Well it is pistol caliber but the logic is also training it’s hand on hand like fist on fist. Easier to align. Easier to align in the dark.
      And like in the dark easier to align without looking and keeping your eye on the target. Say a foe/burglar or multiples.

    These remind me a lot of the MechTech carbine conversions for various handguns (XD/XdM, Glocks, 1911) and the Norlite USK-G, which is the same concept, only more modernized.
    The MechTech and Norlite require you to have a standard handgun that you swap the carbine upper for the slide, and re-use your magazines.
    The MechTech runs anywhere from $400-700 depending on accessories and barrel length (you can get 12" models) and they have more calibers (9MM, .40S&W, 10MM, .45ACP, .45 Super, and .460 Rowland, they discontinued their .357SIG models a long time back) but the downside is it's essentially a direct blowback steel tube receiver with a mounting boss welded on to mate to the pistol lower. If you want to accessorize (lights, optics, etc) your options are a small section of pic rail and the 2 handguards that MechTech manufactures or try to gimmick a Magpul fore-end onto it, which still isn't all that great.
    The Norlite is newer, much easier to configure to your liking as it has MLOK, and is also available in different barrel lengths. It's also a lot nicer looking, in my opinion, but beauty lies in the eye of the beer holder and all that...
    The Norlites downsides : 9MM/.40S&W/.357SIG only. Glock only, and finally, German sales only as Norlite thus far has shown no indications that they have any interest in exporting it here to the US market. Given the labor costs in Germany, I can't fault them, as it would likely cost as much or more than the LC Carbine being reviewed, and you'd still need to have the appropriate model Glock handgun or acquire one if you don't have one already.

    It would be great if Ruger could make a conversion in 10mm for the 45acp /5.7x28mm carbine. So that way a customer that already has a 45acp/5.7mm does not have to buy a whole other firearm.
    Don’t get me wrong,offer a carbine in 10mm. Just give people who love all three cartridges an option.
    Or maybe a third party aftermarket company could come up with something.

      The Hi Point 995 is the gateway drug to semiauto pistol caliber carbines. I still have mine somewhere. Before that it was Marlin 1894s in .41 mag to match up with an embarrassing array of revolvers in the same caliber.
      When I saw the Ruger LC 45 ACP I saw a carbine that would match the velocity of the original.41 Police caliber Elmer Keith invisioned in the 1960s with a modern JHP bullet with a weight 20 gr heavier than the standard.41 bullet. Basically, no appreciable difference. I had to have one. Mr. Keith was correct then and still is in my opinion. A .40 something caliber 200+ gr bullet at 1000 FPS or a bit more = a controllable, effective defense cartridge.
      By the way, your Hi Point .45 I’m sure yields the same results.
      Best wishes.

      How does 10 Mike Mike make nearly all calibers obsolete? I'm assuming you are talking about pistol calibers. How is it so versatile? Unless you reload, or pay the price of Underwood and other high performance ammo manufacturers to get the ballistics of the original loadings you will have no more than a warmed up .40 S&W. The original loadings were very hard on pistols and hard on many shooters. Plus they are not suppressor friendly. You probably say that capacity is superior. Well,not for civilian self defense as you will likely get off 2 or 3 shots before the clock stops for the bad guy or unhappily for you. Where capacity shines brightly is plinking. In that aspect,the more,the merrier 🤗! See, I'm not an old fudd. Just old. However I love ❤️ high capacity for recreational purposes. When it comes to the 2A, the rest of the Bill of Rights I'm a confirmed Originalist.

      10MM would be on the hairy edge of reliability for direct blowback.
      A PCC in .44 Magnum would require an actual locking delay mechanism to operate safely. If they could adapt their old Model 44 design to the LC, it could keep costs within a couple of hundred of the 9MM/.45 offerings, and they'd be smart to use Desert Eagle magazines, or Coonan if they offer a .357 Mag model, vs. expensive proprietary magazines, as was their practice in past years.

    • @dbmail545

      They might be able to reintroduce the old Ruger carbine in .44 Mag. The more reliable version was with a tubular magazine. Though considering that there are lever action carbines in this caliber with tubular magazines holding 10 rounds, they should be able to make one with that capacity.

  • @unclepeteknows6217
    @unclepeteknows6217 2 месяца назад +1

    I suspect that 10mm will not work with this design. Because this design is a blowback action, Ruger would need to install an even heavier bolt, in order to slow down the rearward movement of the bolt upon firing, so the case is not prematurely extracted. The extra weight would make the rifle too heavy to be handy.
