The new Stowaway takedown rifle in 5.7x28 is a wild little rifle and tons of fun to shoot.
Rest in peace Paul Harrell!
pin this please.
he will be missed 😢
Guys I'm running out of days in the year I can cry. Every gun video every day top comments about Paul, rest in peace. He taught us all so much.
RIP, Paul
@@HalfmoonForge friend to mourn is to be human and there’s nothing wrong with shedding tears for a lost friend. Happens to my husband every year on the anniversary of his lost brothers in arms.
And a 70s movie comes to life in my mind, "The Jackal", were the assassin has a .22 mag takedown rifle without any plastic or wood, and was hidden in his crutches.
new tv show too, same name. one of the scenes in the commercial showed a survival type rifle
Rush to find this comment. Originally a novel wroten by Frederick Forsyth 'The 'Day of the Jackal'', a definite GOAT, both the movie and the novel.
@@galancerbacksu5732 the dogs of war is worth a read as well
The old rope around the tree 🌳 = 🍈=🔥 =🍉 😮 ,great movie 🎬 pure class
The Day of the Jackal I think was the title - but yes - awesome film ahead of it's time!!! Based on the Frederick Forsyth novel if memory serves... damn good book too!
The rifle's intended purpose: Backpacking, small game, survival
Me with a childish 007 fixation:
Haha yes
You are not alone in that!
Arm yourself because nobody will save you, the odds will betray you.......
That’s exactly where my head went too lol
Very impressive little weapon system that has a number of useful applications. Thank you for the review of this great platform. From a disabled veteran who served in the Army and Navy.
It’s like a rifle I had as a kid. Bolt action, single shot. It would shoot .22 short, .22, .22lr. And yes, for us born in the ‘70’s, those calibers did exist. I don’t remember the manufacturer, wood stock, very simple. I could go to town store, get a box of 22lr x 50, for 65 cents. And shoot all day. Loved it
I have a Remington Model 33 that checks all those boxes. Single shot. Bolt action. Cock the hammer manually after feeding a round. Dad gave it to me for my birthday years ago. Very cool little gun. I use it to teach new shooters often.
Yeah, we had a (I think..) Sear's Revelation, bolt action, single shot .22, that I must have shot thousands of rounds through. Also dispatched a lot of Sparrows. Those were good times.
Cci makes 22 short but it's a bit hot imo
@@garywinkel1831 when I was a kid 22 shorts were 50 cents everywhere
Interestingly, 22lr ammo has not gotten more expensive. 65 cents in the 1980 equals 2.63 now, so almost exactly 400% inflation. Now if minimum wage was 3.10 in 1980, wouldn't it make sense if the minimum wage was at least 12.5 per hour now?
A 10 inch, mag fed, bolt, braced version would be amazing.
Yes! They have a pistol version with an SBR kit option. No brace yet.
I just got the pistol which has a 7.5" barrel. I'm going to put a folding brace on the pic rail on the rear but should be a nice little stowaway gun which i guess is why they call it that.
Expensive pipe pistol from fallout.
Yup! 😂😂
Awesome survival rifle for a bush pilot. Light and compact and would be capable to taking small game in an emergency.
Haters gonna hate, I think it's a neat rifle.
It's an AR7 but ridiculously expensive.
@@rrphantom8194 ar7 is semiauto. How does in compare to prototype ar 5? 5.7 johnson?
I can think of several guns that fill the same niche and seem nicer than this thing, but there’s something about it that just looks fun. Imagine SBRing one and having the pistol version with a collapsing stock.
Yeah 22lr semiautomatic takedown is king of survival and literally multiple manufacturers make those.
Then get those type of firearms then 🤷♂️ this is just another option for those who want something different
Like what? There's nothing else on the market this compact and lightweight that isn't a 22lr.
@@tortol4847 I was thinking something along the lines of a Sub2K, or that one that S&W makes that folds sideways. Granted, those are clunkier even when they’re taken down. To be clear, I have no issue with this thing. I’m just saying I think it’s cool, and even though other guns probably do the same job better, I still like it.
@@Steven-gv1keyes I enjoy my Henry ar7, but ordered this gun because it has a threaded barrel and is reloadable.
I guess 5.7 has become the .22 hornet of today
I have a Scout over under chambered in 22 Hornet and 410/ 45 lc. I have carried that one in my off road truck for decades and love shooting the Hornet rounds. I carry bird shot, slugs, buckshot, and flaries for the 410. Was once lost in the mountains backpacking, before GPS's and the 22 rifle I carried saved my buddy and I from starvation. 10 days lost on a 3 day backpacking trip. I carried one box of 22 bullets and 2- 7 round magazines in my Mossburg 250c 22, and when we found finally found civilization, I had 3 rounds left. It takes a lot of ground squirrels to feed 2 hungry teenagers. I haven't gone into the woods since without at least one survival rifle packed in my backpack.
This rifle might be a good one for those trips too!
@@CurtisDrew1 never shot any of these but mentioned the ar5 earlier cause someone wanted to compare it an ar7 ar7 is great but in .22lr I'll stick to my 10/22. No offense but at these price points centerfire cartridges intrigue me more usually. Out of several good to great .22lr pistol and rifles out there I like them best when there are either cheap or I get a unusually good deal on one. Nothing wrong with any of them except you can have the most reliable .22lr in the world and hit a void in primer on the back you get a jam.
didn't finish I guess I just want to know what .22 johnson (5.7mm johnoson) and .22hornet never caught on. I like cheap ammo as much as anyone and low recoil. Just don't like have the occasional rimfire click. Ammo is getting better but that's why you buy this. .22mag in centerfire someone told me the 5.7 was. Hey as a pdw cartridge this idea always resurfaces so there is a need. For it just a matter of which one wins power wise I could care less ammo reliablilty for price wish one could hand down win,
The AR-7 semi auto 7 shot magazine made by Henry is a great little survival rifle in 22 LR . I bought mine years ago I think around 1989 and I replaced the stock that you put the barrel and receiver in to a telescopic stock that my father and I made for it! I still have it and it's a very accurate shooting rifle and very lite weight and I have a Weaver scope on it and it's just a 4x with fine cross hairs and I'm 60 years old and the scope is almost as old as me! I like to keep the little rifle in my backpack for camping and things of that nature just in case the time comes that you need a fire arm with really good accuracy! Like hunting a few squirrels or rabbits to eat while camping out way down in the back woods on the river!
Wanna upload a video of it? Would love to see it!
Reminds me of the ArmaLite AR-5 survival rifle. While I wish it had a 5rd mag I really like the clean, simple concept and I like the caliber.
I know it would probably quadruple the price, but I feel like if it fed from magazines and remained bolt action, it could be a good deal more useful. But I guess they're keeping it simpler for multicalibre
This thing is absolutely neat!
Hey MAC, glad to see that your passion for take down rifles is still going strong. I remember the video you did on the DOLOs AR System years ago. Thx.🇺🇲💪🏽🎯
Just ordered the 9mm pistol. As you said, not every firearm has to be tactical or even practical. Bolt action 9mm in a compact package with a can should be super fun.
THANK YOU MAC. I love fun guns. Thanks for posting.
not sure how long i have been subbed but i have to be honest I joined solely for the intro music it slaps
That being said im a long time lover of guns so thanks for all the knowledge
Looks like they took your feedback (at 12:28). They have a pistol option with brace adapter now. Great video!
thats a cool piece right there!!!! be a great little critter getter to keep by the back door!!
This would be an awesome 10" sbr, would love to have it when i go out to the mountains. This rifle would pair perfect with a box of the vmax rounds
one of the rifles of all time
With all the times I see Primary Arms advertised, if I ever need gun stuff I'll use anyone but Primary Arms.
Why is that? I don't think I have ever had any issues buying from them and they sell the same quality products as any other retailer.
@@anti8.6 Just because I'm sick of seeing their name on every GunTuber video, no real reason besides that.
Looks fun, but I would prefer the bolt handle on the "correct" side.
The appearance looks incorrect, but this design does maintain a balanced rifle in your hand during the clumsy reload of a single shot. Even if it was a break action you would maintain the rifle in your right hand and load with your left.
@@anti8.6makes sense with the minimalist thing going on with no real hanguard, etc.
When my son grew up and left home he left behind his cricket I got him as a kid. I crafted an extension to the stock and use it for hunting squirrels and rabbits all the time, when my son saw what I did, he wanted it back. Nope, Pa's having fun.
That looks like a cool little rifle! Especially suppressed!
If you look on the company's website, they do have a brace ready version of the handgun.
😮Having a little fun in a way,Really good to know 😂
I bought a similar 22lr from PackRifle years ago. Great backpacking rifle that's under 1 pound.
Thank you for your content.
Not sure about the whole single shot thing unless it's super affordable.
You coud've put some sort of takedown barrel on a PSA Rock 5.7 action and probably hit $600 with that.
okay, seems to be $300 to $400 in different shops. At least it's not overpriced.
Seem to me it would not take much engineering to be mag fed. I think it issue would a current small mag because R&D for a proprietary one with be expensive
@@floridahdshooterproblem is they've done none of that engineering and made choices that get in the way of modifying it for available 5.7 mags. Would be better off going clean sheet or starting from a pistol frame (PSA rock would probably be cheapest/ easiest start) if mag fed repeater is the goal.
You could also start from a mini action like how's and figure out mags and a takedown barrel I guess, but not much here to build from, really.
Congratulations on reinventing the wheel. A firearm like this has been in existence since the 1960's. It's called the Thompson/Center Contender. The Contender is a break barrel so it's a lot easier to operate. The caliber list is almost endless and the accuracy is extraordinary. A barrel change takes about 60-90 seconds. There are also 4 or 5 companies that make custom barrels that can be had in any configuration you can dream up. I have several custom barrels that literally shoot bughole groups @ 100 yards.
contender is also a handgun, some areas don't allow handgun hunting.
Always liked light weight single shot rifles, they are a lot of fun and usually make good target and hunting rifles.
Can't wait too see what other calibers they come out with, hopefully as many different calibers as will fit the action.
I have a both a Handi Rifle and a CVA in 300 BLK. A 16 inch barrel on a break action is as slim, compact, and lightweight as you can get. Both are topped with red-dots to keep the weight down. Together they have put 8 deer in my freezer.
This is a really cool concept, and I'm happy to see them retailing around $300 online. I would be interested to see if the action can handle a single shot .223 without any major changes. A side mounted 5-10 shot mag for the 5.7mm would be really cool, but there are no existing mags for that which would work so probably unlikely.
Thank you
I need one!!!!
The fact that there's no iron sights just completely ruins it.
Yeah, that’s definitely a big detriment in my book. I see something like this to fit the survival rifle type niche, where weight and size is important, and starting out with adding more weight and size (and arguably less reliability) by requiring an optic is just…silly.
@@jackjohnson291
They should have just put aperture sights on it.
A red dot optic will be more expensive than the gun.
Yes the 5.7 is kind of pricy to use as a plinker but it can be reloaded. Bullets are .224 and capacity is about one grain less than the .22 Hornet. Reloading of the 5.7 has been discouraged because the guns it was made for were blow back operated and pressures had to be duplicated within very tight parameters. this is less of an issue with a locked breach firearm like this. brass life was rather short in blowback arms because they really stretch brass and move the sholder forward. Now we can experiment with different bullet weights, sub sonic rounds and a pound of pouder would last a long time. Slower pouders would probably increase the potential velocity in longer barrels.
@@KrugerrandFarms all considerations that made me buy the
Pistol model with 1923 rail on the back end for a brace. I usually don’t get all that excited about single shot
Firearms… but they have build a perfect suppressor host.
While Fiocci 62 gr subsonic exsists, it is not subsonic in a 16” barrel, nor does every semiautomatic pistol with a can function with it… bolt action is perfect for it
I have been waiting for this. Thnx a lot!
My ASR in 10mm breaks down the same, has almost the same sight, uses Glock magazines, and fits nicely into my old three day pack.
Look's like a straight up assassin gun !
Look up the Carlisle carbine
Very cool little system.
Ar7 has a bolt action big brother now.
Interesting
IMO 300 BO would be nice
With an integrally suppressed barrel and a folding stock.
This is why I bought this in a pistol format.
I just got the pistol version with picitenny rail for a SB 1923A brace. With that, and pistol red dot… about 3 pounds. I have a AR SBR .300 BO 8.5”, and Ruger American in .300 BO… that being said this gun is going to be useful
In and around .22LR/ .22 Mag/ 5.7/9mm/ .38 Special +P/ .30 M1 U.S. Carbine, maybee.
.300 BO is going to be unpleasant to shoot in a 3 lbs gun….. and soo too a 125gr .357 Mag ( based on the 6 pound Winchester 1892 clone I have, in bench sessions.)
Funny thing is, I was consistently distracted by the Barq’s Red can, can’t get those where I am and I miss them so much.
If you are going to go this route (various assembly pieces bouncing around in your backpack), make an AR-9 using a cheap screw-on aluminum handguard. Barrel and handguard come off, upper and lower come apart, very compact package that is only as long as the barrel. Can run a 31-round Glock mag instead of going single shot. Somewhat similar to this but has all the same AR features and functions, so no learning curve. Cheaper ammo with greater availability and more diverse choices, too. If you reload, you can approximate the velocity and terminal performance of the 5.7x28 with lighter bullet choices. This 9mm rifle would likely weigh more, but that's the tradeoff you get with having a full-featured rifle that's more comfortable to fire and likely more reliable.
Day of the Jackal. I remember there were a bunch of AR-7 kits to make it look like that.
O melhor rifle de sobrevivência que vi até agora, fácil de carregar.
I like it thanks Tim great review
I made something like that in my high school shop class once.
I like the B5 23 grip.
Reminds me of the rifle from "Day of the Jackal"
Also the only rifle with a pistol grip that would probably be cool to have a "Commie compliant" grip, like the Tacti-cali
It's pretty ridiculous yet kind of cool at the same time. I don't know how to feel about this one, but it reminds me of a paintball gun.
I would LOVE to see a variant of this style of rifle but using a takedown 10/22 style receiver/bolt, enlarged to suit (possibly call it a 10/28 😀)
Then have it in 5.7x28, 22Magnum, 17HMR, maybe 9x19 and other smaller cartridges.
They do have a 1913 section to put a brace on the pistols!
If this thing was semi with a magazine it would be so much better...but none the less it's cool...
Nice optic too!
looks cute tbh and the rounds are suiting the role. 9mm is much easier to get anywhere though. I think I would go for the Keltech SUB2000 even if it's bulkier.
Keltec makes the sub2000 in 5.7 now
There are multiple manufacturers who make 22mag takedown rifles or pistols w/braces that are semiautomatic and 22mag is just slightly less power than 5.7, while the ammo being lighter and cheaper.
@@jaredbickmore2474 yes, but 9mm is way easier to get. That's something to consider in case of emergency
@@Steven-gv1ke I wouldn't hesitate to take .22LR, you can carry 500 rounds in you BoB without any problem.
@@Meldonator that is true
Never thought id see a bolt action pistol other than as a meme weapon in Tarkov lol
22 Plinkster had a brace on the pistol when he reviewed it.
I’ll wait until it comes out in 357/38.
Awesome little poacher
Make it straight pull and it would be ultra cool.
from the company that brought you the cell phone size .22 back-up single shot gun!
Its a really neat survival rifle but I feel that it needs at least a 5 shot magazine. Just a small mag will make it basically perfect.
Good video brother
It reminds me of the M4 Survival Rifle in .22 Hornet
Reminds me of the Movie the Jackal
Its about time someone attempted to develop a bolt action for the 5.7. Hopefully PSA or BCA will come out with a sexy 1 for 600-750$ in the next 3 yrs
Plinkster had an adapter and brace on his pistol during review. So they do make something that fits
I think your next weapon review should be a Snipex alligator. That would be awesome.
@22plinkster did a video on the pistol version. His had a picatinny rail on the back with a brace. The 5.7x28 is one of my favorite cartridges for no other reason than the way it looks.
Reminds me of the old M4 pilot survival rifle in 22 hornet. My dad had one in his collection for a few years till he traded it for a 69 Triumph Bonneville. I would like this better and see more of a use case for it if it was mag fed
Being single shot and manually cocking kills it for me personally. In 2024, a 5rd single stack mag could have been engineered into the equation. So close to a home run.
I agree, while it would be ideal as a lightweight survival rifle for small game, it doesn't have any other purpose than that. If it were at the very least mag fed, it could fill a recreational roll as well, and if they made it semi-auto it could be defensive as well.
5.7 is a interesting round
It definitely seems to like longer barrels 500+ fps is such a improvement almost like its 2 different cartridges going from pistol to rifle, it has a really high pressure rating for handgun round (55k 9mm is 35k for example) so this is likely why this occurs
I like it. I wonder if it could fit 5.56mm without changing the frame/receiver size, just the barrel and bolt face. It would also make a great rifle for testing 5.7 based wildcat loads. I vote for 4.6x27mm, and a 5x27mm wildcats!! 😂
You have no idea how much that resembles my Crosman 13xx custom, complete with suppressor.
That's a nice little survival rifle just wish it was in 22 short.22 long. And 22 long rifle. Or 22 magnum! I always like the 22 cal.because of you can carry lots of ammunition for them like a brick of 22 LR . Is 500 Rds. And doesn't weigh nothing much or take up any room at all in a backpack. And that means you would have a lot of meat to eat for a long long time out in the wilderness!
The rifle is interesting. The pistol is an extremely bulky mess for a single shot. It’s actually larger than any of the 20 round capacity semi auto 5.7 pistols on the market.
Yeah definitely shines the most as a rifle considering 5.7 is a fireball out of a 16in barrel
Of course it’s larger, it’s a rifle. With the size comes stability, accuracy at distance, and a bit more velocity. Personally, I see it more of a survival rifle aimed at those who already carry 5.7 ammunition in a handgun and want something to pair with it as a way to procure meat in a survival scenario.
@@jackjohnson291 I’m not sure if you didn’t watch the full video and see the pistol version, or if you misread my comment about both versions.
@@jackjohnson291 i think his point was with something that big it should have been self-loading already.
They're the same identical guns, they removed the stock an put a plug in its place and gave it a shorter barrel, of course its bulky for a single shot pistol.
Yup that’s cool
Would like to see them throw a set of wrench flats on the hanguard, but otherwise a neat package. I wonder what the largest cart it will support?
The fixed ejector is likely going to make caliber swapping difficult, as the cut in even a .223 bolt face would be very deep. This suggests the ejector needs to be replaceable too; or that a spring plunger ejector should be used.
While this rifle does have a cool factor the Chiappa little badger makes more practical sense for a survival/ camping gun. They chamber them in 17hmr 22mag and 22lr.
Tough economy for a single shot 5.7. I’m curious to see what calibers it will be released in. I’ve heard .22lr..22mag. And 17hmr are coming and .357 mag is likely in the future.
Reminds me of the AR7...mmmm AR7 in 5.7...
My inner James Bond geek … Eeeeeeeek!!!
So how long did it take before you were consistently remembering to cock the striker? I'm sure it didn't take too long. But after so many years of working regular bolt guns, I can definitely see where it might take a little while to get your head wrapped around the manual striker thing. Heck, I still remember my first semi after many years of black powder competition and airguns as a young one. There were a few times I'd put the first round downrange and then kind of brain fart for a second or two before realizing "Oh yeah, I don't have to do anything.". Lol.
A 6.5 prc is no joke.
It’s look cool and i think they can do something like henry ar7. Make a stock act as action vs barrel storage. Plus do they have left hand version?
I would like someone to bring back the 5.7 Johnson.
With all the companies making m1 carbines now.
This would be a good rifle to bring it back
Except Its not 5.7x28 it's the 30 carbine necked down to 22
Great video. Is that the new GLx 1x Microprism?
sweet not that loud with out can wish it came with 5 round clip
Quite a contrast to the ruger paddle stock 338 win mag I just purchased
looks like a bolt action AR 7 without the mag
If they make one of these in 6ARC I will buy it.
This is a cool little gun i wounder if it'll be available in California
Need that in Simi Auto....
As a lefty, i appreciate the LH bolt a lot... Looks like a fun basic gun.
They do have a 1913 brace adapter on their website!
I'm getting one
NEEDS AT LEAST A 10 ROUND MAGAZINE.
Wish they made a version that used pistol mags to feed the bolt action
