    Ruger has added a new carbine to their 5.7x28 product line. It's called the Ruger LC Carbine and of course it chambers the 5.7x28 round. It uses the same magazines as their Ruger 57 pistol and has the same design features.

    For everyone saying "The failures are caused by a full magazine putting pressure on the bolt", you can clearly see it's happening on partially loaded mags and not full mags in the video. There's something else at play. Thank you for the suggestions though! 👍

      Federal 5.7 ammo is not standard. FN makes the "standard" ammo for 5.7 and its reliability is legendary. Try running SS197SR and see if you have any failures. Federal's 5.7 is poorly reviewed. Poor crimps, inconsistent charge, etc.

    Back when I still sold guns, I remember when the Ruger 57 came out; I said that what Ruger needed to do next was come out with a carbine that was magazine compatible with their new pistol...And they finally did it. If the ammo situation ever gets sorted out, (maybe some other manufacturers will start making 5.7x28 as well to bring cost down further?) this thing will literally print money for Ruger.

    I like when companies do this. They take parts out of their bins, tweak them a little, and then they ship to market something new at a relatively low cost. You can see components from their pistol and the PC Carbine/Charger. Sure nothing is new, but what is new? Like MAC kinda said, simple is reliable. And Ruger is good at making simple.

      The P90 is new, or at least, forever young! For many people it is STILL "too radical", ie new! Until one has actually had a P90 in their hands, you are not really able to understand the ergonomic genius in that firearm! You have to feel it snuggle into your arms to know that! Go to a gunshop and try it! I did! And it works, EVERY time. The P90 has one of the best reliability records, and simplicity of use. NEW isn't always that good, unless, of course, it's an FN!

It's super light, accurate, and you can put out a lot of rounds real quick, with very little recoil. It's well-balanced and easy to handle - even for a skinny guy like me! Those interchangeable mags is really awesome. If they decide to go ahead and make 30-40 rounders, you could just stack 10 mags and have them for both. As for the first round of the mag, it might be mag spring pressure keeping the bolt from completely cycling. Maybe try with a non-full loaded mag?

      Spring pressure issues are usually not JUST the first round, which is probably why he's baffled. If I had to guess, it might be an issue of grimy oil settling in the gun while mags are being loaded. The first shot possibly loosens up the oil and grime with a shock, dropping the bolt or charging it doesn't have as sharp of an impulse. I have a similar issue due to freezing oil that loosens up after the first shot.

    Watching the video you can see the action cycling, it just isn't ejecting the round. You should do slow motion with an angle more from the rear. With the shot taken at roughly 19:25 you can see a flash of the brass from the 2nd round in the mag. Kind of looks like it is some how riding up, interfering with the ejection and the bolt then rides over it pushing it down. It is the only shot I can really what I believe is the second round flash at all. That or I need more coffee this morning...

    I have a Ruger 57 pistol. It occasionally jammed, not on the first round, but on the last round. Very rare for that to happen on the first, though it did a couple times. A firearms instructor at my favorite shooting range suggested tamping the magazine to be certain every round is settled at the rear of the mag. Bingo! The mag has some horizontal play, and if the round is not fully rearward, it will fail to feed. I have no idea if this is at all related to the issue with the carbine, but it's possible.

      Weird. How many rounds have you run through the mags? Might just need more break-in. To save on ammo expense, just load to capacity and pop it in and out (on a closed bolt) over and over and over. That might help, but idk. It sounds like a stiff spring to me.

  • @project86xero
    @project86xero 2 года назад +3

    I've never been a pcc guy. If I want a pdw style firearm with a short barrel I'll go for a 300 blackout. An if I just need something to be compact, like a bag gun, a takedown ar with a cry havoc qrb gets pretty small.
    I've thought about guns like the keltek sub 2000. However 9mm doesn't do it for me. If I'm going to go bigger I may as well be more effective while I'm at it.
    However 5.7 is in that weird pdw cartridge space that just makes way more since to me. If they make this in a takedown I'd strongly consider getting one.
    Although it does depend on the final weight. If it ends up being super heavy like the takedown pc charger I'll stick with a takedown ar.

    • @BeingFireRetardant
      @BeingFireRetardant 2 года назад

      But you lose all of your advantage with a super short AR. And the 16" barrel on this 5.7 is bringing muzzle velocity to 3000fps. With less recoil, less concussion, less noise, arguably greater accuracy, in a platform that shares mags with your pistol.
      An 8-10" AR does none of that, for all that bulk.
      But so does a PS90.
      Ruger very well may come out with a pistol version, with a 10" barrel, and 40 round mags, which would make this a true pdw.

    I absolutely love the 5.7 I pretty much given up on the 5.56 I have an upper 5.7 for one of my AR’s and it’s has a P90 50 round magazine. The ammo is a bit more expensive than 5.56 but with my range finder and optic it can truly reach out and touch someone if I need it to and having a 50 round magazine it means I can carry a lot more ammo with similar results and if I need to penetrate kevlar the 5.7 is a better choice for that.

    Looks like a winner. When Ruger did this with the PC carbine back in the 90s it offered a lot of utility, but the execution was anemic. That, and .40 and 9mm ammo at the time was not optimized. This is ready for almost anything you need right out of the box. 5.7 out of a 16 inch barrel offers a lot more performance.

    People have been asking for a PC Carbine/Charger in other calibers like 5.7x28 for awhile, but this seems like a much more refined platform overall. Maybe we should start pestering Ruger to make this in 9mm.

    • @phambelton1
      @phambelton1 2 года назад

      My thoughts exactly. Instead of the PC Carbine in 10mm as I see often requested they chose 5.7 and a new design with a foldable stock instead of the take down. Still heavy though, and $1K MSRP. And loud as an AR (v 9mm). So I'm not sure I follow the use case. But maybe after more reviews, or I try one myself, I'll see it better.

    • @herbderbler1585
      @herbderbler1585 2 года назад

      @@phambelton1 the folding stock is nice, but it's just an attachment on a 1913 rail like many other guns, including the PC Carbine/Charger. The biggest advantages I see are that the LC can be taken down with no tools, and the mag well is in the grip meaning it's several inches shorter than comparable 16" barrel rifles.
      As far as the weight goes, blowback guns are always heavier. There are methods to mitigate that extra weight which Ruger clearly doesn't do, but bear in mind they're a mid-grade brand at best. I'm seeing a $960 street price for the LC Carbine. That's not a budget gun, but it's hardly breaking the bank, especially when you compare it to any other 5.7 carbine out there, and it's easily competitive with the majority of PCCs in general. If you've got $1800 for a PS90 you're getting a better gun overall in my opinion, but for a dirty poor like me, there's no way to justify that expense for a boutique caliber.

  • @davidunderwood3605
    @davidunderwood3605 2 года назад +3

    Great video. I agree with other people. Mabey load one less round. Maybe. Maybe it's slamming the mag in it putting friction or pressure on the firing pin or something and not letting it hit hard enough. My main question is how much velocity gain do you get from the longer barrel compared to the shorter one.

    I have to experience this one on the range! It seems a really impressive platform

    Man if that lever mag release was on the 57, it would be perfect.

    5.7 ammo prices have gotten down to .42/rd. 5.7 is a fun caliber, not sure I would use it for defense though.
    This gun should be priced @ $750 imo

      0.42 was before the pandemic and supply chain slowdowns. Cheapest I've seen since 2020 is 0.78/round and I look almost every week.

    And every time it happened you had a (Full Mag) that's because the ammo is pushing up on the underside of the bolt, magazine spring tension , Try it without a full mag. You should know this my friend
