    As a German i'm very proud and think SSD definitely needs more Attention! Here in Germany we got the STG-44 as well by Sportsysteme Dietrich, those are fantastic Semi-Auto Versions and very popular among German Gun Owners but also sadly very very expensive! But Top notch Quality.
    I'm surprised they didn't sell well in the USA, they're insanely popular over here. Hope now that they moved a Production Facility to the USA, hope they get more Sales by the US now.

      My grandfather never said anything about his time between '40-'44, I was always sent outside when his friends came over for a talk. One day I was digging the soft soil under the neighbor restaurant's basement and found one with a "corner attachment". You should have seen his eyes sparkling, it was like blue lightning ! Today I'm 60 years old, living in Commiefornia and understand my grandfather and that painter was 100% right. 😉

      Haha! Thanks for sharing that incredible Story! My paternal Grandfather used a STG-44 issue in April 1944. He always tells me to go to and i quote "Texas or Arizona one day and shoot a full-auto STG-44, i'm sure the Americans will be happy to have you!". Definitely on my List to do!
      He is now 104 years old (turns 105 on 1st of September) he always jokes about how he had to go to War in 1939 on his Birthday for obvious Reasons.
      He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge by Americans serving with the 1st WSS Division "LAH" and then after the War became good Friends with a lot of Americans stationed around our Area in Germany. So as a Kid in the early 1990s we'd always have German WW2 Veterans and American WW2 Veterans over each Summer for BBQ and i loved listenting to them talk about the War in a respectful Manner, no Hostility whatsoever

    This is pretty cool but don't let that distract you from that fact that In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team.

    You say the WWII German 7.92 Kurz is Corrosive primed. A little background, I am a military ammunition headstamp/caliber/type collector. Been at this since 1976. Massive collection. Much knowledge, still learning.
    Very few 7.92 Kurz were loaded with the brass type 88 corrosive primers as about 1940 they revamped their type 30 copper noncorrosive primer adopted in 1930 and made it acceptable as the new type 30/40 phosphate steel by the ground forces. The Airforce (Luftwaffe) still rejected it. As it didn't work well at high altitude cold temperatures. So, if you see a primer other than brass on WWII German 7.92x57, 7.9 Kurz or 9mm Luger it is Noncorrosive. No fault, as this is a long-time assumption that all WWII German ammo is corrosive primed.
    Also, on the rifle, a side-by-side comparison of the internals on this SSD the BATF accepted for production are about 15% different from an original's internals (they want hindrance in someone installing FA parts). Agreed it is still the closest you can get to an original thus far.

Fortunately I bought several thousand rounds back then and thousands of 8mm bullets and brass cases. he problem I have now is most of the ranges will not let you shoot full auto weapons. Unless I'm with someone on private land, it just sits in the safe. Very cool gun. Mucho fun with the happy switch. They are ungodly expensive now.

      @@sandwichartist5053 SSD produced these years ago already, so setting up shop here in the usa was much faster, R&D always has to be done, but they just did most of it a decade ago. Hill never finished R&D (not yet anyway), in part because of venture capital and a VERY small team. To keep costs low he utilized G3 parts which were plentiful. The cost of doing that means MORE R&D. PSA is keeping with that model. Using parts not originally designed to work together adds complications, and it makes me truly wonder if its worth saving the $100-$250 or whatnot to just stick closer to the original. Afterall, what happens when the G3 parts flow dries up? youll turn to PTR and pay their prices? I wonder if these parts can reliably work together at all. To get people excited, then languish for years is a hard PR hit to a company, esp a small operation. PSA can shrug it off, but after their Mp5 promise, and now the Stg.. we'll have to turn to brownells or just stick with psa's ARs

      Just the WWII reenactor market could keep this guy in business for years. We routinely drop obnoxious amounts of money on original artifacts or high quality repros of things you just can't get. 6,200 isn't bad when you consider the originals are going for 50k+ when they're available which isn't often. The originals are also transferable machine guns, so there's a ton of paperwork and fees involved and they're not legal in several states. It might not be right away, but I will definitely be picking one of these up. The StG is way underrepresented in reenacting just because they're so hard to come by, the guys in my group will absolutely s*** themselves when they see this is coming on the market.

  • @shaggydestroyerofworlds2208

    I Akin the $6500 price to the $8500 Ohio Ordinance Works BAR.
    It's not meant to just be a good clone, it's as close to a 1:1 original recreation as possible, pretty much a designer item that's super expensive to produce because of how uncommon and unique it is.
    If you want an affordable and more usable STG44 clone, wait for the PSA version.
    Plus, I think we're getting close to a "historical firearms clone" Renaissance in the gun industry within the next few years, especially if the SBR and SBS rules of the NFA get ruled unconstitutional.
    Given that, and them getting more settled in the direct American market, prices may well drop.

    I know of 2 original guns that blew up in the late 90's/ early 2000's from shooting original wartime ammo. The shells looked fine, but the powder had started to deteriorate, and corroded the steel case from the inside. The cases let loose, no one was hurt, but both the lower and upper were swollen and bad out of speck. Don't shoot the old steel ammo, and l would extend that warning to the postwar Czech ammo, as it's the same powder the Germans used, and it's 20yrs older now.

    • @xjda68
      @xjda68 2 месяца назад +5

      Agreed!
      The original WWII ammo and the post war you would have to pull every bullet and observe the powder and case internals for rust. Then reassemble. I know someone who did this and still had issues with case separation. No harm to the original receiver, but if you get a separation close to the head or head failure, then yes, I can see receiver bulging possible. Coating the rounds with Carnauba wax did help with removing the broken separated casings. But then it is possible you could be putting more pressure on the bolt when firing. The Germans did try briefly in 1940 with 7.92x57, waxing casing when they transitioned from copper plated steel casings to lacquered steel. The new lacquered steel was sticking in high cyclic rate weapons. The wax worked, but it picked up dust. Eventually in 1941 they redesigned the internals making it on the inside thinner at the top end and heavier at bottom therefore springier for extraction. Hence the St to St+ head markings. The biggest issue one is going to have with this old WWII German 7.92 Kurz, is pulling down a light bullet that is crimped well in a steel casing. Much effort even if you are going to just reload the projectiles with new powder in PPU casings. I have about 2,000 rounds left of loose WWII 7.92 Kurz that I paid some time ago $1 a round for and don't know what to do with it. Primers are nice as they are type 30/40 noncorrosive, but they are also worthless Berdan type primes if you can't use the casings. Very few 7.92 Kurz were loaded with the brass type 88 corrosive primer as about 1940 they revamped their type 30 noncorrosive primer adopted in 1930 and made it acceptable as the new type 30/40 by the ground forces. The Airforce (Luftwaffe) still rejected it. As it didn't work well at high altitude cold temperatures. Sorry I am so long winded.

      @@vincentmueller3717 They also experimented with non-corrosive primers before and during WWI since the inception in 1888 of the type 88 brass primer. RWS noncorrosive type T 18 of 1908 wasn't accepted but they changed it a bit and standardize it for use in commercial ammunition in the mid 1920's branded as SINOXID. It is usually copper plated brass with impressed circle in center of primer. Nothing militarily was adopted until 1930, the type 30 copper plated brass noncorrosive primer. Adopted as the type 88 successor in 1937, it was withdrawn from usage in 1939 due to misfires in subzero weather and mainly used in Platzpatrone 33 wood bulleted blanks from then on. Type 30 can also be blackened copper. The type 30/40 steel primer also had variations. There was zinc plated, nickel-plated and colored lacquered versions. There was also a type 43 steel RWS noncorrosive primer that was short lived (type 30/40 with different composition). The 9mm Luger used the type 08 corrosive brass primer and the zinc coated steel type 08/40 noncorrosive primer starting in 1940.

That's why the designation MP44 came up. To hide it in the official paper work. Then one day he was condecorating some troops and asked them what he can do for them, one responded more of those automatic rifles. I've shot a couple of original Stg 44s that belonged to friends on mine. Thanks to their layout, excessive weight, and weak rifle cartridge, they are pleasant to shoot in full auto. Unfortunately, their construction is rather flimsy because they were never intended for long service. The price of these new clones is insane. Very few people will be able to afford them. If nothing else, collectors may finally have a source of affordable magazines that aren't worn out.

That would be movie prop companies. And the prop companies NEVER purchase just one. More like 10-20 pieces. And there's a lot of prop companies in America. What the D&K will need to do. Is after a while, produce some other model from the era of the stg44 to stay viable per se. I am definitely picking up two of these stg-44's. One to shoot to have fun and the other to stay in the box. I do that a lot with certain pieces in my collection. When I purchased an FN-FNC...I got 3 of them. One is in the box, never fired. • @Paladin1873
      @Paladin1873 2 месяца назад +2

      The difference is 4". I'm not aware of any documents which indicate the Germans, Russians, or Americans made such distinctions. However, following your logic, the Fedorov was the first production assault rifle, while the the Mkb was the first production assault carbine. By comparison this would make the AK an assault carbine and the M16 an assault rifle.

    • @dannythehonestgamer6051
      @dannythehonestgamer6051 2 месяца назад +1

      The Fedorov have more in common with the BAR or the magazine feed light machine guns of the time around WW I than any assault rifle, as it was still chambered in a rifle round the 6.5x50SR Arisaka. The standard issue rifle round for the Japanese army at the time. After all the idea with the assault rifle concept is the use of a intermediate round that is easy to control under fully automatic fire. The 7,92x33 kurtz fulfills that goal. The 6.5x50SR Arisaka not so much even if it was one of the mildest recoil cartridges that Fedorov could get his hands on at the time. And that also not jammed the gun constantly. Military testing of the Fedorov during WW I by the Russians concluded that it worked best as a crew served weapon, so in short, like a light machine gun would be used. And the recommended firing mode was semi automatic as the weapon would overheat rapidly when using full automatic.

    • @TheSundayShooter

      @@Paladin1873 I don't consider the Propagandaministerium an authority on technical matters.
      If a weapon is gas-operated and has a practical range of 300 metres, I call it an automatic carbine [Siminova exempli gratia]. The AK has an auto sear, so I call it a machine carabine. I consider 500 metres to be the practical range of a rifle, so AR-15's barely qualify as machine rifles with 20-inch barrels and 77-grain ammunition

    • @Paladin1873
      @Paladin1873 2 месяца назад +1

      @@dannythehonestgamer6051 That's not how the Soviets eventually employed it in WWII. It was issued to elite scout units and used in a manner similar to the StG 44. In terms of power it was about equivalent to the 6.8 SPC which is considered an assault rifle cartridge. In 1915 the concept of a light machine gun, automatic rifle, SMG, and assault rifle had not matured to the point that they were well defined and distinctly different. It is only in retrospect that we apply these terms, so we have some latitude regarding what modern parlance we use to classify them. If so desired, one can even reach back into the late 19th century and find several obscure prototype firearms that also could vie for these titles.
      When it comes to the MKbB/StG series I would argue the M-1 carbine had them beat and saw far greater combat use. Even German troops fell in love with the compact, light recoiling War Baby. Those who think an assault rifle must have a select fire option should recall that feature was incorporated in the original M-1 carbine concept, but deleted during early trials, then reinstated late in WWII. It was service standard by the Korean War when many M-1s were converted to M-2s simply by adding/replacing the necessary parts. Today we have again retroactively applied a new concept designation to the M1/M2 series - the PDW (Personal Defense Weapon). In truth we're never going to pigeon-hole every small arm into a single category, but it's fun to try.

    • @Paladin1873
      @Paladin1873 2 месяца назад +1

      @@TheSundayShooter You are free to classify any small arm as you see fit, but you will find there is no common agreement on the correct terms, only generally accepted concepts. Fascinating! Every time I've seen the rifle, I thought that metal 'handguard' was a hot joke. Seeing the imagery of soldiers holding the rifle by the magazine, I suppose that even wrapping the barrel with heavy cloth didn't help much.
    I was also a bit surprised when I saw reports of the StG-44 being in fairly wide use in the Mid-East in the early 2000s; I had assumed that it simply disappeared after WWII.
    The performance of the 7.92x33 relative to the 7.62x39 was also surprising; I expected it to be significantly weaker, more akin to a pistol cartridge.

    The best thing about the STG44 is the "coolness factor" and novelty for modern shooters. I remember watching an American World War Two veteran say that American Infantrymen almost always declined to use captured German assault rifles because , at almost twelve pounds, they were twice as heavy as M1 carbines, but the 8mm Kurz round was in the same power class as .30 Carbine rounds. Also , given that Germans weren't able to make enough ammo for that rifle for themselves , an American soldier had little hope of finding enough ammo to justify carrying that weapon. The Germans , on the other hand, loved M1 carbines and used everyone they could get their hands on. All that said I would love to have an MP44 , like most other gun owners.

      Yea this poor here will have to settle for my dad's m1 carbine bc I'll nvr afford one of these. Even if I could not also making them in more popular modern cartridges is a mistake. The ammo cost is enough to make you second guess even if you could afford the thing.

    I will remind everyone here that we were already paying $7500 for Lugerman Lugers and SMG FG-42s, and I was seriously saving up for one of the FG-42s as my grail gun until I put everything I had into building my house. Hell, I put an AK-103 together that cost me $3500 by the time I had all the parts and accessories I wanted on it, including SAG chassis, issued FSB stock, optics, etc, so I never really considered an 8 grand FG-42 to be *that far* out of reach. It's painful, but this is the kind of thing you buy once in your life and it sits at the top of your collection forever. Same for this one, potentially even moreso.
    This is in line with what you should expect to pay for a high quality, highly accurate reproduction of these guns. Saying 'the StG is stamped so it should be cheap' is a complete misunderstanding of the kind of stamping technology that went into it, as well as all of the other machined parts that go into it. This is not Russian AK stamping, or CETME stamping. This is a highly complex, technically immature style of stamping that they used during wartime before they had it all figured out and knew how to do it efficiently and quickly with a minimum of machined parts. There are some quite complex milled parts in that receiver. That's why the various roller prototypes, Gerat-05, Gerat-06, VG1-5 and the other shit are all so much fucking simpler than the StG.

      I don’t disagree, especially since they just moved everything to the US. They need to recoup some of that investment. If they can eventually get them down to the $4k range I think they will have much better sales. I’m worried that they could go under in a couple years. I really hope they make it to the VG1-5.
