I've just recently revisited the videos from that "era" (including the videos Demo, Donut and Brandon Herrera made for Kentucky's channel). I do recommend doing just that.

Looks like he has a legal short barrel 12 gauge semi auto pump.
A friend of mine had a squib in his 1911 a few years back (he no longer has that gun but for a different reason), and in the moment he didn't notice it but the next riund was a spicy +P round. The fact that his hand and face were intact and he only had a small bruise on his cheek from shrapnel was a miracle
what does a spicy/hot round mean?
@derpthegreatestvidomaker944 it means that a bullet has more powdered explosives than the gun can handle
Wow that’s lucky

This is why I love Scott's videos. They're not only entertaining as hell but informative and educational. Keep em coming man!

This is another reason to know your gun very well. You should know exactly what kind of *bang* to expect, so when you get a *boomf* you recognize the sound is wrong and don't just keep shooting.
Incredible to see how the injury healed. Scott’s face didn’t necessarily look like the face we were used to after the incident, but now it looks like the old Scott. The human body is incredibly mysterious at times.
(Also, I don’t mean this to be an insult or anything)
People ask if I have nightmares about any of my injuries & my response is "Why would I?They happened a long time ago."

how dangerous would it be if there was a squib in an automatic and somebody went full auto
Well, since there's not enough pressure to push the bullet out or cycle the feed, it wouldn't eject the casing, so you have to eject it manually. That's where gun safety comes in. If you notice when you fired it didn't sound or feel right as you were shooting, that's your time to stop immediately and check
@@irad6711not always true for gas guns. If the round makes it past the gas port but not out of the barrel, it could still cycle and you can have a horrible catastrophic failure.

The tension whenever Scott loads or takes the gun off safety is unbearable everytime! 😆
I was expecting the truck to explode...I can taste my disappointment, it tastes a little less spicy than sadness.
Yeah, I was waiting for it when he shut the truck door at the end 😂
Yeah man...I totally keep forgetting about that too, it gets me every time!
I jump most times
He's becoming a Weenie , huh ?
I think pistols usually handle squibs a lot better because A, the barrel just isn't long enough to get that gradual explosive pressure build up, and B, pistol powder burns a lot quicker than rifle powder, so you're getting a sharper acceleration out of the bullet (which is kind of necessary considering short barrel = less burn time).
Don't get careless though, preventative safety is still best safety! :)
The fact that the squib cleared from the barrel of the pistol was amazing. I thought at best, it would jam a second round. Nope, and it was fully functional after.
@@Slitheringpeanut just what I was thinking, I didn't for the life of me think it would clear that, much less function normally afterwards.
A mate of mine had a squib in his beretta 92 performance without noticing it. We just noticed it later when we saw random fragments in front of where he stood
That and the also, it’s not a locked chamber so it is able to release the pressure out the back of the action
I blew up a 44 Mag Korth NXR with a quad squib.
The ultimate barrel pressure test. The Canik handled with ease and very entertaining to see for the pistol test. Nice quality apparently!
Hey Kentucky, I love these educational videos you do. The shotgun squib actually reminded me if an incident we had happen at the range I work at years ago, of a guy who loaded a 20 gauge birdshot shell before putting a 12 gauge birdshot shell directly behind it causing the whole recieve to detonate. I’d love to see a video showing why you never mix ammunition no matter the situation
ruclips.net/video/2xmVQVIZc8c/видео.html
I have no doubt that you know this, Shep. For anybody else that doesn't, putting a 20 gauge shell in a 12 gauge shotgun is common enough and disastrous enough that SAAMI has reserved the color yellow for 20 gauge shotgun shells. They don't come in any other color. If you look in your 12 gauge shell bag and see yellow, stop and fish out those 20 gauge shells.
I am in no way an expert on firearms but that is also the point, I know that I don't know. The problem with dangeroues equipment is when it is handled by people that believe that they know. Such people are accident prone.

That 30-06 squib, same result happened to my dad years ago in a 300 Weatherby. But his wasn't from a squib, at some point while walking around a long grass, wheat stock, or something similar got down his barrel. When he fired, similar results. The barrel split and pealed back all the way to the action, opening up like 16in at the end. It now hangs on his wall haha
My dad always put tape over his muzzle for that reason.
@@m14lvr muzzle condom!
He more than likely did have a squib. There have been dozens of videos trying to jam a barrel with mud or ice or other natural things, while it theoretically CAN happen... it doesn't in torture tests. I mean, if you watch enough war footage you'll see US troops regularly putting their barrels straight down in the mud/dirt, just to prop them up and hold them. Or sometimes even in reloads. It's really not THAT big of a problem, granted a muzzle break does make a difference there. But still, to split a barrel you have to have something HARD locked in there to cause it
@AngryDINGUS 100% was not a squib, there was still a chunk of the straw, about 4in, semi burnt into the lower portion of the barrel. My family have been guides for 80yrs, mY dad that this haopemd to now owns an ammunition company, the entire family is well aware of firearms. He sighted in/confirmed zero, evening before the hunt, no squib...if you fire a squib round, in a rifle for sure, you can ABSOLUTELY tell its a squib I don't care what anyone says. Recoil is nothing compared to a standard round. Anyone who knows anything about firearms, ammo, and shooting can agree to that. The only time a squib round is detrimental is at a firing range with pistols when hearing earpro...with a rifle, you know 100% if it's a squib or not the second you pull the trigger
@@m14lvr yes sir and thats a good thing to do
This reminds me of a conversation I had with the commander of a cannon crew from a Civil War re-enactment. He said he preferred the Napoleons because they were made of brass would would tend to split and vent, whereas the iron cannons would tend to just explode. The weapon was quite beautiful, and we got to see a lot of the procedural experience up close (loading, piercing the powder bag, inserting the igniter cord, etc.).
I'm also glad that none of the jams I had the one time I went target shooting involved hung bullets (I don't recall ever hearing the term "squib" before today, but I'm not a firearm expert). I remember the Sig Sauer jammed the most frequently (it wasn't hard to clear, but it was annoying), while the Glock didn't jam at all (but it had more recoil and was less slightly less precise). I looked at the barrels of the two guns later, and noticed that the Sig had a tighter fit between the barrel and the round (they were both 9mm). I have no idea what kind of ammunition I was using... whatever my friend brought with him that day, but it was all the same.

Well you just made me like my Canik SFX even more than I already did. Thanks. Had one squib only once in my life with a M&P 40 and it bulged the barrel out. Smith stood behind it, replaced the barrel and it works fine to this day. It still rattled me a little. Great video. Keep up the good work.
That was really awesome. Would have never expected the shotgun barrel to split like a kitchen whisk. Like you said, it looked like the good old looney toons.
The 30-06 was really impressive. Would love to see, the two bullets merged together - if you're even able to get them out of the remaining barrel...
But the Pistol really deserves the Titel of "Most Sturdy Gun of the Day". Absolutely astonishing, that it was still fully functional after the squib.
I also hope, that you manage to get your truck back out of the mud.
Greetings from Germany.
Thank you for educating me about a squib. I'll be honest, I never heard of a squib. I always appreciate you being safe and helping us to remain safe.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LOCATE THEM BY PEERING DOWN THE BARREL
Next time you explore Squibs, you should show or explain how to safely determine (Once clearing the firearm as unloaded) if there's any bulge anywhere down the barrel. Again, every situation is different. I've had a Barrel bulge on me, so I know what you're looking for, but who else does? Great vid, Scott!!
I'm impressed with the Canik, pretty high quality for being rather affordable
Same here I was very surprised that it survived.

Always feels good to win lol
This is the first time I've ever heard the term "squib" being used in typical fire-arm fashion as a barrel obstruction. Usually I hear it being used as a name for exploding blood packs on movie sets.
The word Squib refers to a small explosive charge, typically too small to do any damage - they're used in films to pop blood packs as you know, and also make bullet impacts on walls etc. The squib in a firearms context is still a reference to a small explosive charge, i.e. the cartridge was a "squib load" - too small a bang to push the bullet from the barrel. And due to the wonderful world of etymology, the blockage caused by the squib load, becomes a squib!
No, because they are jerks. If the subsequent shot behind a squib induced blockage happens a half-second or 10 minutes later makes no difference.
I've had one before, not too bad I just had to take it home and bang on the squib with a cleaning rod for 10 seconds to get it out
@@logicthought24 A squib will usally jam the gun, make a different noise, and have a weird recoil impulse. Very easy to tell if you had a squib brah. No reason to NEVER rapid fire because your terrified you might have one

Love that face, "are you expecting something." Well yes and I got it, " a few moments later." It's interesting how the front end of the barrel on the shotgun stayed in line with the rear part of the barrel; but held together by steel strands.
Thanks Scott. Wait a minute Scott, "hold my slug," could you try shooting through that section of barrel?
I saw a Remington 51.380 ACP a few years ago that I was getting ready to buy and it had a bulge in the location of the last third section of the barrel from a squib load. I would have had to make a new barrel however, I didn't buy it and do that because I couldn't readily order a barrel blank with the original rifling pitch with the correct land and groove widths and I couldn't get a barrel maker to custom machine a barrel blank to the original rifling specs..
I actually can answer that question about the handgun squibs. My dad had one during training with a Glock, either model 22 or 23. .40 S&W, I do not know what brand or load the local Sheriff's Office was issuing out at the time. Barrel was trashed and the frame was damaged, but he walked away completely unharmed.
Edit for clarity: When I say the barrel was trashed, it didn't explode. It bulged really badly, and some of the rifling was stripped out. The frame was cracked, and I think the slide got cracked too? Hard to remember, been many years and we don't speak anymore. I do know that it was bad enough that they gave him a new handgun afterwards.

And informative. During my school years due to costs many expensive experiments just wasn't done and we had to make do with dry books. Now we got the internet and those expensive experiments becomes dirt cheap if instead of twenry students there are nany thousands looking at a video. A gun is expensive and you don't want to dedtroy it in an experiment for the benifig of a handful people but thease videos can be seen by millions. It wouldn't even suprise me if some soldiers are told to take a look at them.
I used to shoot fireworks displays about 20 years ago - hand fired displays (my favorite - you just set them off with a road flare) and electronically fired displays. When you do electronic displays, the igniters are also called “squibs.” One time we had a guy helping us set up a display and he kept calling them “squids.” He said it a bunch of times both as a noun and as a verb: “Hey, we need another box of squids here.” “Did you squid that shell? Make sure to squid those.” Fun times.
I love fireworks and stuff realy funny story
The shotgun isn't even ruined all you have to do is sawed-off the bad part of the barrel and it's good to go

True... Heard of too many stories. Like a hunting rifle's bolt exploding backwards and killing the hunter. Smashed his head.
I really want to see what happens when you plug the barrel like that, but FILE weak points into the metal, like in a spiral around the barrel and see how/if the barrel splits along the file-lines. Might make some nice post video artwork.

Demo Ranch did some truly horrible things to pistols to TRY to make them explode. Very few actually did. Concrete, Epoxy, Weld, etc, etc, and finally SHOOTING a round directly into the barrel.
4:30 can't wait for the ATF to call this a short barreled shotgun because you blew up the front of the barrel.
Good note for people reloading.. The primer is just enough to cause a squib load: so when you're checking powder drop, don't forget to add the powder back to the casing....
The 12 gauge would make a cool lamp stand!

Love your videos, Scott! Assuming the firing mechanism still works, what would happen if you fired the rifle and shot gun again? Just curious to see what would happen.
Think he will now we both asked him to. 😉
I presume that nothing too special will happen with the shotgun. assuming you are able to load another shell of course, the split up barrel would probably just behave like a really bad, shorter barrel, considering the damage sustained that didn't result in splitting (bending, dents, and all that)
Well, I now know what my 30 06 Mossberg rifle would do with a squib. I never thought I'd see the exact same model gun I own on here. Thanks.

Scott, two things on the squib video. 1) I would love to see how you made/got the squib setup in the barrel. 2) Just for fun, when the barrel does explode, fire another round just to see what happens. I realize this is silly, but it would be fun.
I think he just used a rod to push bullet into barrel. Only real accurate way to get them there.
Great video! Cool to see that Canik survived without an issue, if you had a squib like that you'd probably never even know! I wonder though if the felt recoil would be different from the second bullet impacting the squib?
I had a squib load in a gen4 Glock 19. I was actually firing fairly quick, but the squib was obvious to me; it was more of a muffled thump instead of a bang, and the recoil impulse was weird (kind of like a soft push straight back).
The case stovepiped, but I'd have stopped after the weird feel regardless. Dropped the mag, cleared the stovepipe, checked the barrel and yep- a squib!
I can definitely see how a newer shootet might screw up if it does actually cycle on a squib, but anyone reasonably well practiced will know something is fucky right away.

Hey Scott, I was wondering how would the shotgun react after this failure if you would cut the barrel just before the bulge out? I know that cutting the barrel is illegal but for science I was wondering if you could and if it would still be firing fine. Hope you could do this in a follow-up video. Thanks Rob.
i want to know what it would do with the barrel in its current state
Hey Scott!! I have a suggestion: the Canik seemed to survive very well against a squib. But what about other things such as dirt and sand in the barrel? I would love to see you torture test this gun and see what it's limits are. It's been a while since you did a torture test so this is a great opportunity!

Like a train wreck... hard to watch, impossible to look away lol
I watched a guy shooting a Remington 700 muzzle loader. He got his power charge in there. When he rammed the sabot in about 6 inches, the guy on the bench asked for his help. When the guy got back to his muzzle loader he forgot to ram the sabot all the way home. He touched that thing off and it looked like that 3006 Bolt action.
I got into guns on my own. My family wasn't really into it. I bought a new .45 pistol and went out shooting quite often. I remembered one time I fired it and it felt really weak and weird. I pulled the trigger again and the next one felt like it kicked twice as much as usual. I cleared the gun and couldn't see anything wrong so I kept on shooting. On the drive home it occurred to me what happened and it freaked me out! I had to pull over to let it sink in for a minute
The results from that Canik really surprised me! I may have to go and buy myself a Canik handgun now. Great video as always, Scott!
Me, too. To me, a torture test like this, from a man like Scott (among several others), can really make or break a gun and company in my eyes. This just took Canik from "Foreign copier of Beretta & others" to "First-Rate Company Standing On Its Own Two Legs." Not that the former designation was a bad one, just, I take them FAR more serious, now.
@@calanon534 I've seen Canik's run before, courtesy of other guntuber channels, so I knew they could handle well. But seeing one operate perfectly after an alleged gun killing malfunction, that's just plain impressive.
@@crayzcapper7036 Ferraris handle well. I knew Caniks were good shooters, but so were ITM-84's and some other "good shooters, BUT.." over the many years. It would be interesting to see how different autoloading actions handle a squib.
I expect blowback and gas operation (both flavors) to be spicy.
the reason for the longer barrels exploding is a process called dieseling: the air between the squib and the firiing round is compressed so suddenly it actually detonates ~ even on the smooth-bore the air is compressed before the compressing air overcomes the inertia of the squib.

It was painful to watch that old Sears shotgun be destroyed like that.
The results with the Canik were very impressive. I expected the barrel to at least bulge to the point the slide wouldn't move anymore.
Scott, you've tested a lot of centerfire guns when it comes to catastrophic failures. Do something different, test some rimfires and see if it's possible to blow them up in the same fashion.
I’ve actually had an out of battery firing in a 10/22. And it was pretty non eventful. Worst part was trying to get the rest of the case out of the chamber. Had my hand been covering the ejection port it would probably have been much worse. Now I’m curious what would have happened if the next round had pushed the ring far enough up the bore to allow the bolt to close.
As someone that owns a canik TP9 I was both excited and afraid of the end result. I'm glad it came out just fine, but then again not every situation is the same.
I was literally combing the comments to say the exact same thing!
Agreed, I was pleasantly surprised
Edit: especially using underwood ammo...them like Buffalo bore are so over pressured most the time

0:50 now that gives a whole new meaning to the term live round brother!
the look on his face when he start cutting, m8 you almost had me sipttin my drink out! ahahahaahah
I really hope this is profitable for you. Because these gun tests are gold to the public archives. Most people pay some of your sponsors to learn things that could save their lives.
Very educational ! I would never have thought it would happen that way
Canik for the win! I know every gun and situation is different in these scenarios. I have the TP9 SF and love everything about it. I haven’t had a issue so far with my gun but even then my experience may be different from others. Definitely a quality gun manufacturer and all for a good price. Fun video to watch!
Dino from San Antonio. Thanks for the info. I had a similar experience while attempting to chamber an old 20 gauge. It’s good to hear from people that have actual first hand experience in the matter.
That happened to a rifle in "The Rescuers" when the antagonist holding it was trying to fire but a swamp mouse block the barrel.
5:27 i love those drinks
👍
2:15 What is a squib? A squib occurs when a dyslexic person attempts to order squid from a seafood restaurant
As an Turk, I honored when I saw our gun Canik how it can be durable like that! Thank you Scott big fan and lots of love from Turkey!🇹🇷❤️
I like that scott points out that the gun is empty befor he looks down the barrel.
Like He Is Making Clear "I am Not Stupid And You Shouldnt Be Stupid Either!"
This is both impressive as hell to watch and-while I wouldn’t say it’s safe if this happens- it’s good to see that the trend for long guns at least was that it doesn’t reach the shooter.
Might blow their fingers off though. I had a colt revolver almost turn my hand to jelly but good gloves saved the day. It just exploded back to the magazine. My hand was black and blue for weeks. 40 years ago.
Being a firearms owner didn’t ever know about squib loads. Thanks so much for the info man that was so important. It’s a reality check for inexperience gun owners. There’s so much to learn you made us realize thank you so much buddy you’re a champ.
Thanks again, my friend. Much appreciate it.
Yep, squibs can be nasty, pretty much if the gun doesn't go bang like it usually does, clear the action and check the barrel
That’s a great thing about RUclips and I’ll set all the bullshit aside of all the bad videos and stupid stuff when you’re running the educational stuff like this, it is so important and I were so grateful
I almost had my grandfather's classic Colt Cobra blow up in my hands when I was in middle school. I fired a round and it sounded kind of weird but I didn't know enough to think anything of it. I thought I'd missed because it was a snubnose. I fired another round that sounded weird with nothing appearing on the target and our family's Army vet friend immediately took the gun. The first round was sticking out of the end of the barrel and had been pushed up by the second round. Because it was an aluminum frame and old Colt couldn't do anything about it and Winchester (or Remington, whichever ammo we were shooting) took the gun and gave my grandfather a few hundred dollars. I'm lucky it didn't blow up and if I'd fired another it might have. He's tried a couple different guns to replace it but has never found anything as good as that classic Cobra.
@@bwofficial1776 here in Canada we’re not as knowledgable with firearms. We don’t have the places that teach you in the shooting ranges like in the states there’s very minimal shooting ranges so being infatuated with firearms were quick to get them and move forward not realizing the dangers and the proper way of doing things, so we consider ourselves very fortunate to have all these American guys taking the time to put videos up to educate us anxious fire arm enthusiast, so it’s very important that these unique situations are talked about and expose so that as lucky guys go in the right direction and do things right for safety thanks buddy
I love these tests! I think you should try a muzzle loader catastrophic failure, and maybe a machine gun of some sort!?
About 30 years ago, I has a squib blow up a Glock 21 (45 ACP) in my hand. I was using home reloads (hence the squib) but I think they were regular factory pressure since they were just for target shooting. The slide stayed forward, and the top of the chamber ripped open from the breach, pealing forward. The magazine plate, spring, follower, and all the rest of the rounds, blew out of the bottom, leaving the magazine itself practically welded to the magazine well.
It blew a lot of skin off my thumb and forefinger, and I think I had a few scratches, but mostly I was just numb for a few minutes.
I know it’s an expensive question, but after seeing that 30/06 split like that I’m very curious what would happen with a carbon Fibre wrapped barrel such as a Christensen, proof, fierce, etc.
Great question. Would they hold up any better or be even worse? An even more expensive option would be an old machine gun. Could any of those designs have been overbuilt enough to survive? A squib would be a much more dangerous situation in a machine gun since the next round would almost certainly fire before you realized one was a squib. An inertia operated semiautomatic shotgun would be interesting to see tested. I wonder if the bolt might potentially cycle soon enough to vent enough excess pressure for the barrel to not fail.
At 1:33 the defense for the movie "My Cousin Vinny"
Can we all just appreciate the dedication this man puts into his videos!!! Keep it up brother🇺🇸🇺🇸

What does that flag mean C?
@@just_one_opinion It’s the thin blue line flag. It’s a way of supporting or respecting police officers
@@Caiden.Bradley i see cops wearing it, just not sure why it looks like the us flag?
Seeing how a variety Hi-Point firearms handle squibs, hot loads, and other things pushing their limits until they either fail in a horrific manner, or if they're designed well enough to take into account such accidents.. As they're known to be a "budget" gun maker, but from everything I've seen in more typical stress tests, of their pistols at least, they seem to be built like tanks and continue to function, but I just think it'd be cool to see if user safety is somehow more compromised by buying a "budget" brand.
Fascinating results, Scott. I wonder if the 9mm barrel is short enough that the squib doesn't have time to get lodged in place and cause an overpressure explosion.
That might be part of it
And pistol powder is generally no stranger to pressure spikes either
It was also the lightest projectile here
Maybe it was the amount of space between the round being fired and the squib? As in that air/explosion didn’t have time to compress and before the pressure could build it shoved the squib out of the way.
Would be interesting to see what would happen if the squib was *almost* out of the barrel.
@@5peciesunkn0wn I agree, how much space does it take in the barrel to build enough pressure, along with how far it will push out the squib before the pressure is too much? You know it must push it a little but how far?
Interesting video for sure! My first firearm instructor handed me a damaged 44 magnum revolver which had opened like a flower after making contact with a squib. The squib bullet was stuck right where the bullet enters the barrel. Would love to see that happen on your channel Scott. Also, you gotta do a slap round squib video!
