- This is the longer version of the barbershop quartet cover of the Beach Boys as seen in Bioshock Infinite (this is the version heard in the credits; its longer than in-game).

I actually stopped walking and watched them at the game
So did I have a nice day nacho!!!!
Who didn't? :)
Bruce Wayne Always do bro, you too
Thanks sir you have gained a sub
I don't need the link I found it after wave upon wave of doritos adverts and thanks
"God only knows what I'd be without you." That's such a kick in the teeth once you finish the game. A beautiful kick in the teeth, but still.
God doesnt know. She does.
actually the beach boys are the ones who made this song
Oh shit. I just now caught that. Damn. This song just took on a new meaning for me. Love it when writers interpret songs in different ways than what they were intended to mean
@@tntalchemist explain it to me
@@jaxtonlango3287 Comstock is what Booker becomes without fathering Elizabeth, ergo "God only knows what I'd be without you"
3 years yet I haven't forgotten the emotions felt while playing this game....
just like skyrim
Nah man. Skyrim is a brilliant game but it isn't as emotionally engaging as Bioshock Infinite. Not by a long shot. Skyrim is a fantastic game, truly. But Infinite is more like a work of art.
han solo dies at the end of the libya olympics
omg ! me too !!!
so true guys
I love how the feeling this song gives you is different at the beginning and ending of the game.
I agree. The first time you hear it you'll probbaly think something along the lines of "Cool a barbershop quartet thats neat" but once you beat the game and hear it again it reminds you a bit of the relationship between booker and elizebeth in a way well at least it did for me
Yeah at the beginning it’s like “Oh cool, the Beach Boys as a barbershop quartet.” and then you hear it again at the end after feeling all of the raw emotion of the ending and it all makes sense, and the song makes you harken back to that point at the start of the game when you were clueless and give you instantaneous nostalgia.
It was...beautiful
Sounds like something straight out of Family Guy at the beginning.
The song itself has a very ambiguous feeling, ambiguous Harmony (in the original at least), it's lyrics are obsessive, the guy literally says he'd kill himself if the person ever leaves them etc
It was a brilliant pick from the start, and this arrangement is beyond brilliant
I actually sang this Bioshock arrangement at my mom's memorial service a capella. It meant so much to me, and she had loved the Beach Boys in life. So grateful.
That's beautiful.
I'm sure she'd be proud.
Why am I crying for someone I never knew? She would be so happy - my condolences to you.
Beautiful.
@@Rensune Thank you so much
@@linkflorestv87 I really appreciate it
One of the biggest mistakes Irrational Games made was not releasing a soundtrack with these anachronistic songs. This and a few of the others were SO well done, I'd have bought the soundtrack in a heartbeat. The actual soundtrack has all instrumental songs and only Elizabeth's version of "Will the Circle be Unbroken".
Agreed, but the cost for licensing all those tracks for a CD would have been ridiculous. That's why it never happened.
Fallout too.

I actually stopped roaming around and listened to them until they finished singing.
I actually did that every playthrough I had
mj bumagat khalel610 me too.
as soon as i finished bioshock infinity, i restarted the whole thing from bioshock 1, slowly and methodically, gathering everything. Just began bioshock 2 a couple of weeks ago. How many times have you gone through them?
to be honest I haven't finished Bioshock 1. I stopped playing a couple of months ago. So it's going to be fun playing 1 and 2 knowing what we discovered in infinite.
I think it's nice that this game encourages some of us to go back and play the first 2 Bioshock games. We're like Booker and ELizabeth in a way. We go back and play 1 and 2 but with a different perspective and understanding about the series.
khalel610 That is very true, you know what blew my mind though? getting to rapture in Bioshock infinity's DLC... when that door opened and I saw rapture's design features i dropped the controller and lifted my arms up as if i had won something. I guess I'm a what they call a Fanboy.
same. i just sat there and listened to them sing in game and at the credits
Playing through the game for a second time to collect all the Voxophones and Infusions, it stunned me how much foreshadowing and depth were contained in the infinitesimal details I simply dismissed on my first playthrough- Booker's nosebleed the first time he sees Comstock, Esther calling Elizabeth "Annabelle" on the way to the First Lady Airship, the song that Elizabeth and Booker play in the Shantytown bar, the Voxophone in which Comstock states "One man enters a baptism and a new man emerges", and this song. It really adds a layer of depth to the game.
Ken was a genius for putting this song in the game.
***** He's a genius in general, dood! I can't wait to see his next work with his new studio.
Don't forget what Liz says after she shivs Fitzroy ;)
Also when I'm playing it and I walk through the siphon to get Liz I just scream "destroy it!"
...I feel like I've seen you before but I can't quite remember where. Could you jog my memory a bit?
Ah, right. Nice to see you again.
A life changing song for a life changing game, I shredded a tear at the ending of the game when I understood the lyrics.
:,)
👏👏👏👏👏
shredded, accurate.
Zer0 must be that youth SHREDDED a tear LOL.
I remember when I got to this part in the game. Heard a barbershop quartet singing what I thought was just a period song and thought nothing of it as I walked past. Then I heard the line "God only knows what I'd be without you....." and I was like "wait, WHAT?" and doubled back to hear the rest. Same thing when the Vox woman was singing "Fortunate Son". The use of anachronistic music in this game was a really nice touch and actually fit in with the theme of the story.
DrRockkso Well the story IS about going through time so why not have songs from before a different time!
DrRockkso My first thought was "Did the Beach Boys version just a cover of an older song?" Then I looked it up on Wikipedia and got really confused.
I missed the Everybody Wants to Rule the World part
Did you ever find the section with the Cyndie Lauper version of "Girls just wanna have fun" playing through the tear, and then the Voxophone talking about the amazing songs heard through the tears? SUCH a nice detail! More games need to have the narrative ambition of Bioshock Infinite.
Okay no I didn't need my heart in one piece any more

We NEED another Bioshock game.
All in due course ;)
and they need to not cut so much out this time, infinite was suppose to be about 5 times bigger than it ended up being
Vincent Grinn Yea that was so disappointing. I still love the game, but you can tell it had so much potential to be something more than what it ended up being. As much as I love the game, at some point it just becomes a shooting gallery. All the openness and different choises that were promised are absent.
Not really. We need more games with story and ambience LIKE Bioshock Infinite.
We diehard fans just gotta wait till 2K announces BioShock 4! Or an HD remake of some sort. Ugh! Why does it ALWAYS take forever for them to announce the next BIoShock?!
I was literally laughing when the random barbershop quarter popped up from their blimp thingy. I LOVE The Beach Boys! respect for the Bioshock makers for putting this is their game.
Don't forget the organist playing "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" at Battleship Bay.
Bork Bork, Or the little girl in the street singing "Fortunate Son" by the legendary CCR 😉
Kevin F
You discover that at first through a tear at Finkton. Apparently Elizabeth fucked the timeline, so the kid must have heard it early. Either that, or Fink exploited the random tears appearing (this is more likely now that I think about it, there's a voxophone concerning the topic)
Would You Kindly Hit The Replay Button Again?

I stayed in the part where they're singing Will the Circle be Unbroken because I didn't want to leave. And then I started Bioshock 1 without leaving
The cool thing is this actually fits in with the game, the barbershop quartet probably saw a tear into the future and saw the song and made it their own.
Jeremiah Fink is the one who used the tears to find music from different times/worlds. He created the covers.
TubbyLumpedKins It was not Jeremiah Fink. It was his brother, Albert Fink who used tears to steal songs from the future. The Barbershop Quartet was his group, so yeah, it does fit.
Well, no shit. You do realise later in the game this is obviously explained?

@duggie25 really? You must be def.
@duggie25 whether or not a song is actually good is purely opinion, it's just annoying to hear people like you say something sucks as if it were actually a fact, when it's just you're opinion. Makes you sound like a douchebag.

Just finished playing the game again, and for some reason when this played in the credits, I got a bit emotional. I wasn't crying or anything, but I got a bit depressed. When you first start out the game and you hear it from the quartet, you find it humorous, awesome, and a cool addition to the nod. But when I finished the game in its entirety, besides the sinking feeling when you've finished a game, I suddenly felt much worse that it was over because of how the song completely ties into the whole game. It didn't seem all too important in the beginning, but it kinda hints at the relationship between Liz and Booker, and it was so good that I felt even worse when it was over.
+xtremetoxicguy It's bittersweet, for sure
+xtremetoxicguy Just start a new game...
+xtremetoxicguy It's just so intense. The song hits so hard 'cause it's so true. :(
+xtremetoxicguy The ending is a happy one because Booker got to spend some quality time with his daughter and stop Comstock from being born.
There's so many covers of Love songs but Bioshock has been considered the Horror genre based on number one. Fear is stronger than love, heartbreaking stuff.
I wish more games had the ambient experience of Bioshock Infinite between shootouts and at the start of the game.
Video games need to have more ambience, we need a game that is just ambient world exploration with no real goals.
I can't walk around a early 20th century floating city in real life smart ass
Thanks Captain Obvious. Real Life doesn't have early 20th century floating cities, video games do was the point I was making. At no point did I ever say I said that in the first two paragraphs. Don't be so pedantic, it's sad.
If you're looking for a game with great atmosphere and ambient experience I highly recommend the game Journey. It's only about an hour and half long, but it manages to convey more emotion and take you on an amazing, well, journey without anyone ever saying a word.
Chris Parkhurst Journey does look interesting, and with the PS4 port coming out it would be a good time to play it.

This is without a doubt the best game I've ever played. But man, that ending hits you hard right in the heart.
i cannot grasp how good you have to be to sing this and stay in tune with the rest, it's just perfect
It isn't a very large range, anyone without some weird problem could do it with a small bit of line and key memorization.
lol not anybody got a bass voice what are you talking about, nor tenor. it's either too low or too high for a lot of people
Maybe you're hanging around the *wrong kind* of people.
FartMaster69 :P yeah i'm talking mainly non-singers
A lot of 'average' singers sing and enjoy this type music every week. The quartet that recorded this (A Mighty Wind) is a current top competitor in the Barbershop Harmony Society. There are tens of thousands of men (and women in their own organization) that sing this style. It doesn't take a ton of talent to sing it if you can already sing decently, but it can take a lifetime of practice and perfecting to become the best. Just like everything else in life - practice, practice, practice... :-)
It's not to often where you stop playing to enjoy the Npc's.
Something that always gets me about this game is that it has such an amazingly told story, and I want to share it with my friends and family.
But it's not a movie, it's not a book- it's a shooter. While I am a gamer at heart and love playing FPS games it's hard to convince those who aren't to give this a try.
If non-gamers could experience this game and other great games it would be amazing.
That's the tragic part of being a gamer. You have all these fantastic storytelling experiences that would either make great movies, or just wouldn't transit well to the big screen. But it's hard for use to share these stories like Bioshock or Mass Effect because it's a game and most non-gamers can't make the transition from what's a book or movie to a video game. I struggle with this with my parents. They love good books and stories, and they believe me when I tell them there are fantastic stories in video games. But they don't want to sit down and watch me play a 10-40 hour game just to get a story out of it. It's really sad.

Sadly that is the truth luckily I got my mom to watch TellTale's Walking Dead, Last of Us and Heavy Rain maybe in time Bioshock Infinite.
Very true :/ Usually if you mention that the story is from a shooter, people will turn away or roll their eyes, they dismiss it before you have a chance to explain.

I remember hearing it in-game before that, I just stood there and listened to them midst the chaos. Never stopped in a game to listen to a song before. All the remixes of newer songs in Columbia are great, but damn this one is on a different level.
Yeah, I think they timed it out perfectly so that the heavyness of the whole story hits you as you're watching the credits roll...

As a huge fan of both Bioshock games and the Beach Boys, it brings me no shame to tell you that I cried openly when the quartet came through singing this.
The game was so beautiful, and Columbia was such a crazy new setting with gorgeous graphics. I was so excited to see what the game had to offer and as soon as I start walking around, a barbershop quartet comes down on a hovering ship to sing the Beach Boys as you begin your journey. Unbelievable.
As an old Beach Boys fan, when I first heard this. I stiopped dead in my tracks.....and said out loud. "God only knows". Wow.
60% of the time it brings me to tears, every time.
Im gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure facts

This game was so carefully and beautifully crafted
Wouldn't say that. As wild of a ride as this game is, sounds like the development was a mess and the game was thrown together at the very last second. You can notice it with how much shit ended up being missing from the final product.

The fact that it drops this on you right near the start then once more during the credits is just pure art. Simultaneously gives away the protagonist's motivation as well as revealing the time paradox in the most sublime way.

I may not always love you: Booker may not remember who Elizabeth really is.
But long as there are stars above you: There are infinite universes where Booker will always find Elizabeth.
You never need to doubt it. I'll make you so sure about it: Booker goes to Columbia over and over, indefinitely looking.
God only knows what I'd be without you: Without Anna, Booker stays the same. With Elizabeth, he becomes Comstock.

So what good would living do me: Booker's life becomes devoted to saving Elizabeth, but he must kill himself/Comstock in order to have Anna back.
My god so true :') Gives a whole new meaning. The song choices in this game are perfect
Except Anna wasn't what shaped Booker into Comstock. Him either accepting or refusing to take the baptism is what shapes him. Either he takes the baptism, changes his name to Zachary Comstock, never marries, gets his alternate self's daughter, and the rest you know, or he doesn't, gets married, has a child who Comstock abducts, and the rest you know.
I hope all the babies who whined about this game when it came out and refused to enjoy it because it wasn’t set in Rapture, have learned the error of their ways. Infinite is a masterpiece

I can't explain how magical and memorable this game was for me (though from all the comments it doesn't look like I need to) The atmosphere and the tangible feeling of the journey. The emotional depth of the story. The imaginative and immersive world.
I completed Infinite on the day it came out (which also happened to be my birthday) I loved it so much I went straight into 1999 mode and did it again. I distinctly remember stopping dead in my tracks and watching the full performance of this both times. Whenever I replay it, I do the same thing again. It stuck with me ever since then and probably always will.
Irrespective of the plot holes and the flaws, Bioshock Infinite is a masterpiece to me and in moments where I feel insecure or if someone tries to shame me for loving games, Bioshock always comes to mind and I'm reminded why gaming is special.
Just started replaying infinite for the 5th time and it’s ritual for me to stop and watch the entire performance every time. This is BY FAR my favorite take on the song 🔥
Bioshock Infinite is just one of those games that I'll have to play through every fewevery few years, for the rest of my life years, for the rest of my life. An absolute masterpiece.
Bioshock infinite was such a profound experience, I wish I could forget everything about it and experience it for the first time again.
I manage to find myself back in this video every year. Its just one of those unforgettable moments in games...
I sat there and listened to the quartet while they sang, lol.
I wish Columbia had more of this and less of gorefest, I'd love the game so much more.
I found the gorefest actually added to the game instead of distracting it. I'd be walking around, watching the 'Duke and Dimwit' cabinets while Elizabeth took cotton candy and soda from the attendants, and I knew that once I went back to the Hall of Heroes that peaceful, serene moment would be abruptly over. That surreal peace is jarring in a good way.
Apocrypha Whitecandle It's like real life, at first everything seemed to be all nice and colorful, but it can turn into a bloody gorefest with everything going wrong.
***** I would like to know where you live and what time period.
Apocrypha Whitecandle Haha xD
I viewed the gore as an intentional contrast to the picturesque beauty of Columbia, indicating that while it may appear that way on the surface, all was not well in the city in the sky.
This was so great when I met these guys ingame. I just stand and listened.
Married two years in a little over a week, and this is just yet another countless 'one of our songs'.
Thanks, Bioshock Infinite!
When I stopped to listen to them in the game this song went round and round in my head... to the point I couldn't stop singing it as well, lol ; )

I love the tone that this sets. First time i Played I was like "Is that a Beach Boys tune? Something is very wrong."
Whoa, listening to this song after beating the game... The hidden meaning is giving me goosebumps
9 years.... Its almost been a decade since we've experienced the world of Rapture and Columbia.
I wouldn't be surprised if this song served as original inspiration for the game. The coincidence is uncanny.
"I may not always love you" = Elizabeth doesn't always love Booker in all his forms, notabably as Cromwell.
"But long as there are stars above you" = Stars are lighthouses, and lighthouses are entrances to other universes.
"You never need to doubt it" = There's always other forms of Bookers she loves, including the one you take the role of.
"I'lI make you so sure about it" = She showed Booker the potential of the multiverse.
"God only knows what I'd be without you" = Elizabeth ponders her own possibilities based on Booker's possibilities.
"And if you should ever leave me" = Booker got rid of Elizabeth to pay off a debt.
"Life would still go on, believe me" = Needs no explanation, does it?
"The world could show nothing to me" = The Elizabeths of Colombia are unhappy with their world. They're confined to a tower, deprived of love, hope, and other emotions.
"So what good would living do me" = So they settle for preventing their own existence by killing the man who orchestrated it.
Comstock*
Oof.

I wanna hear Brian Wilson's opinion on this song.
I actually saw this song "God only knows" while searching for barbershop music on youtube. I was so amazed that I wanted to play the game it was made for.
Even though I had never played a Bioshock game, I really wanted to see this scene in the game. Then, as I started playing: "5000 feet... 10000 feet... 15000 feet... Hallelujah." I was almost crying, I had never seen such a magnificent beggining to a game. The contrast of the bleak lighthouse against the heavenly light from Columbia.
The game advanced, I saw the awesome Barbershop Quartet and was amazed again, and sad as I realized it wasn't a loop, they flew off after singing it just once. I progressed through the story, loving each moment. I'm not a hardcore gamer, I didn't play in hard mode and I had no problem with the gameplay. I was in it for the story.
I had never been so engaged with a storyline before! I usually play calm and collected, not rushing in, checking everywhere for loot, but this game gave me a second take at that. When you discover that Elizabeth was imprisioned for 6 months while I traversed a warpy-timey-fuckey bridge, while she got less sane and more desperate by the minute, I panicked. I really went berserk, and just rushed to her. I knew the game would wait, it wasn't like she would die if I took the time to loot every single turret or room, but I needed to get to her, to save that pixelated companion. And I did. And then the ending happened. And I saw the multiple lighthouses and the original Bioshock world (I recognised it even though I had never played it) and then the ending of the ending happened and I wen't OMG THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. OMG, THE BEE GEES SONG HAD A WHOLE OTHER MEANING! And I sat back and thought "I definitely want to play this again, but maybe I'll wait a few years, so I can at least feel a little of what I felt in my first playthrough.
And so yeah, I found what I consider to be the best game I have ever played through a Barbershop Quartet cover of an old Bee gees song. And I'm really, really happy.
I only played BioShock Infinite because I got it for $1 in a promo. Glad I did, because I've never played another game where the story affected me as much as this one did. The barbershop quartet was a fun little jaunty tune when you see them for the first time in Columbia. As you noticed, it takes on a whole new meaning when played in the credits, one that's moving enough to bring tears to the eyes. I loved it so much that for my brother's wedding (for which I was best man), I gathered three other singers and performed it for my toast. BioShock Infinite's barbershop rendition of God Only Knows will forever hold a very special place in my heart.
MusicArnaldo Welcome to Bioshock. Hallelujah.
The Bee Gees? Really?
I miss her so much
I didnt know if I'd like this game when I bought it but as soon as I ran into the barber shop quartet I feel in love with the game
same :D
I freaked out in a good way, and I caught it on camera XD.
A barbershop quartet could cover any song make it instantly a 1000 times better.
True but i don't think that applies in this case, due to the perfection of Brian Wilson's original recording and back in 1966.
PieOfEpicness
Nah, the original is a masterpiece. In fact, the entire Pet Sounds album is a masterpiece.
Overcoming the Coom
Why is this version STILL not on Spotify?
Ikr it’s very irritating
The 4 in a Bar version is pretty close to this one.
@@tck42 now THIS should be the top comment, a GREAT suggestion. I've been following barbershops for a few years and I couldn't find the right one for this song and I think your suggestion nailed it.
What a wonderful cover of this Beach Boys song.
I just finished bioshock infinite yesterday and it is with out a doubt my favorite game ever and this song is as well
Had to get my good headphones to appreciate the bass.
Everytime I've played the game I've always took the time to hear these men perform. It's always worth my time.
DAT BASS!!!
+Chest Pec Respect he actually isnt a very low singer, i sing way lower than that. he just has a husky voice
+sam k bullshit
Thomas Westcott that wasnt even a D bro.
+sam k No that's a low voice. I'm a baritone. With enough falsetto I can sing Ne-Yo songs but they put me in Bass in my choir anyway because there weren't any more available!! >:(
Chest Pec Respect thats a low voice yeah, but not even a bass 2 note
damn, what a game series
this is my jam
I started crying so much when I sat down and heard this. My grandfather on my dad's side passed away back when I was in either middle school or early high school, my grandmother also on my dad's side followed about a year or so after. My late grandfather's favorite band was The Beach Boys, and even though I never spent time with my grandad, my dad would always tell me stories about him loving that band and we (my dad, grandad, oldest nephew, and myself) all went to a concert of theirs at a fair a year or so before he (my grandad) passed. Again, I never really spent a lot of time with my grandad, so whenever I hear anything from the beach boys, I think of him and my dad. Around December or so of 2017, my parents got a separation from each other, but they both still lived at the house (their anniversary being Christmas eve, so yeah...kinda awkward). Around January 2018 my childhood home got wrecked, and my dad ended up moving out. During the summer, my town has these coverband concerts at a park, and my dad and his girlfriend took me to almost everyone of them. When those ended, Iwasn't able to see my dad as often. October 2018 my mom and I were evicted from my childhood home and moved in with her boyfriend. I don't see my dad a lot whatsoever, but he calls and texts me almost everyday. Most of the time I don't think about us not seeing each other, but this song made me cry because I thought about my dad and how much I miss him and want him in my life more.
i seem to come back here every so often, one of the best songs i've in a game.
I know right, me too, feels like people completely forgot
@@Stale_Buns There's still always going to be people who play this for the first time long after it came out. I only played it this year, loved the game.
The cool thing about this song is that there's not a single musical instrument
Scott Yi A well done a capella barbershop quartet is rare, but this game's soundtrack still had it, bless its singers.
I prefer this version to the original. More songs could benefit from oldie-ifying, imo. Infinite definitely did a good, cool thing when it came to their musical direction.
We need just a whole album of oldie-fied songs.
Tristan Smith I personally prefer the original, for several reasons. 1) It was the 1st version i heard first decades ago, which to a lot of people who played Bioshock, especially the younger crowd might have not heard it before this and 2) because the first time i heard it I had taken 3 tabs of Acid and listened to it for what seemed like centuries then proceeded to have a staring contest with a cat.
But this version is definitely just as enjoyable as the original version and done very well.
Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox might be the fix you're looking for.
blade12 I'll give it a look then!
blade12 Wow, The Post Modern Jukebox is pretty great!
Best video game of all time.
this is my 3rd favourite game 1st is the walking dead and 2nd is fallout 3
SuperJackman117 Switch around 3 and 1, and you got my favorites
SuperJackman117 Pretty close to mine as well. I'd say Fallout 3 is #1, Last of Us is #2, currently this is #3, Walking Dead (the Telltale games) #4. :)
beyond two souls would be my 4th fav and last of us 5th
Lol!! I told my wife that I wanted one of those Oculus Rift "infinite treadmills" so that I could just walk around a destroyed Washington DC and explore. I would get in the best shape of my life!
*barge flies in*
nice
*end credits roll, crying*
NICE
I come back to this every once in a while..damn Bioshock is special
I feel you, this game really changed my gaming experience forever.
Im in tears right now.
I need that quartet sometimes in my life. Miss you.
I cried when I heard this during the credits. It's beautiful and heart-breaking and loving and wonderful.
I can’t tell if that high note on the very last chord is an overtone or a violin doing harmonics or something... if it’s an overtone then goddamn those guys are in tune because it’s clear as day
Actually, this wasn’t made with any instruments.
This just makes me tingle and shiver. This is unbelievably beautiful.
I love the idea of alternate reality music like this, wish there was more like this in video games.
These kinds of antique covers of modern songs should have their own genre name.
Look up bardcore.
