I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX and it worked. The first two times I'd hear noise on the forth click but the remote wouldn't lock or unlock. It worked on the third time though so if you're having issues just keep trying.

Hi, this is really helpful, but its not working for me at the moment. My 2002 Honda Civic 1.4 remote locking and unlocking became gradually unreliable over several months. I could see the LED on the fob illuminating when pressing the button but no response from the car. After an hour or so, all would be fine. It’s got worse over the months. I repeatedly replaced the fob battery but the problem got no better. I then ordered an aftermarket fob and have tried to programme it, but no sound of any lock cycling after the 4th press. And I can't get into the programming phase using the original fob either. Someone suggested the receiver in the car might be faulty. Is this a known problem? Can I test it or replace it? I don’t even know where it is.
It is possible for a receiver to be faulty - especially on a car that's about 20 years old. Im really not sure how to manually test the receiver itself to determine that though
If this isn’t working for you then wait a second before locking it and turning it off. So put it in accessory mode let it sit for a second hit the button and wait a second to turn it off and repeat 4 times

Someone who has a CIVIC 2003 LX 4 DOORS in the USA and this original Honda control helps them since I bought my car a long time ago and it came in very neglected condition and they only gave me 1 key without a control and I chose to put a remote start with alarm included but Now the alarm is already giving me problems, the car's battery drains me as soon as it's cold, I wanted to take it off and just put it to open and close but I'm not sure if it comes with factory control since I called a Honda dealer and they could never confirm anything .

Just done this on my dad's 2003 honda jazz/fit but on the new remote I had to press both the lock and unlock button then remove the ignition key after that the car recognised the new remote
I followed the steps a few times and didn't work for my car, so at the end when programming the remotes I clicked the lock and unlock buttons a few times and got it to work for my car (Honda Civic 2003)
Also, if you car doesn't go into "programming mode" best thing to do is remove negative battery terminal for 15-20minutes. Never more than 30minutes unless storing your car. This will then reset all the systems in the car & therefore also helping to get back into program mode. However, glad you figured this out on you own. I'll say not every civic is the same even same yr & all.

That may not have anything to do with the fob, but possibility the horn itself. Could check to see if the horn fuse is blown or damaged in anyway. If that's fine, I would try purchasing an OEM key fob from a junkyard or any seller on eBay that the fob looks legit. If junkyard, can ask them if you can test this feature before purchasing & hopefully they agree.
My owners manual says on the fob that currently works with the vehicle you will have to press lock and unlock together for a period of time (30 seconds?) to activate the audible beep once again. This happens anytime the battery is disconnected or changed or any other time the vehicle looses power or something of that sort

My 2004 civic ex is doing the same thing. When in programming mode I use the remote’s lock button and I can hear the lock cycling but when the key is out the remote will not work.

Are you sure your Civic has a factory keyless remote system installed? If you are unsure, call a Honda dealership with your VIN number and speak with their parts department. They can look up the original build sheet for the vehicle to see what options it has

Does the "PANIC" button work with these aftermarket remotes after successful programming? Perhaps with a Genuine Honda remote that is reprogrammed, the "PANIC" button may work?
the panic button does work on the OEM fobs. In my experience aftermarket fobs work pretty poorly in general but I don't know specifically about the panic button.
The procedure shown in the video only works on the years shown in the title. Unfortunately a 2010 Civic is not onboard programmable, meaning you will need a dealership or automotive locksmith. You can find a locksmith in your are here www.locatealocksmith.com/directory/

Once I disassamble steering lock unit and after this "operation" opening with remote control has stopped working. Remote control is ok, it lights. So I use your instruction. It works till I pull out the key. Then doesn´t work. What is problem?

Not working for my 2002 civic LX. I noticed it locks and unlocks every time I turn it on (II) and off (0) but yours doesn't.

If there is no red light on the remote the problem is not in the car. The problem is in the remote
