You’re not wrong about the n14 engine. They consume oil and had no oil sensor. Came with a dipstick that few people would use until it was too late. Nonetheless the most fun car for the money if you find a well sorted one. Depreciation and reputation have kept prices low. You could probably buy 12 mini’s for the price of a full size truck.

That’s so true . Some of the more tried and true NA engines are simply durable and great for the fact that they have been in this format for many years
There have been some great internal combustion engines in the past like GM's small block V8's and 3.8 V6, MoPar's Slant 6, 426 Hemi, 440 and 383 Magnums and Ford's 300 c.i. 6's and 289, 302, 351, 390, 428 and 429 V8 motors. The trouble now is regulatory pressures to decrease emissions and increase mpg's. Combine that with corporate cost cutting to increase profits (and executive pay) and you've got a recipe for disposable cars that'll barely last the length of the payments. Ridiculous.
That BMW V8 using “Liqui Moly” synthetic oil, correct oil viscosity, oil change every 5k and before changing the oil add to the engine a can of “liqui moly” additive part # 2004 , drive 1000 miles normal driving without racing or abusing the engine , at 75k switch to “Mobil 1 extended performance high mileage” oil to prevent leaks and that V8 will go to your funeral😂
I’ve been in the aftermarket automotive industry for thirty years. You did a good job of finding the most expensive problematic cars, but every action has an opposite and equal reaction. You don’t get performance, luxury and reliability all in the same bucket for dimes on the dollar. Can you now do one on most economic vehicles?
I think they're just trying to build the smallest engine for fuel economy and stuffing a turbo on it so it has some power. And the larger engines have turbos to compete with everyone else. Man my 06 CVPI 4.6 is nothing to write home about but it's powerful enough and NEVER breaks down. I'm at 265k miles and still runs strong and smooth.
I have an old land rover lr3 from 2006. It only has 61k miles on it. I dont drive it too often so i think im okay. I also have seen this same year same model with 200k miles on it selling $4k, $5k on craigslist.

Also i have a friend with a 2022 Honda Passport and he has had since the car came out and he told me it’s been really reliable to him. If you’re going for Honda Pilot, avoid the years 2003-2005, 2009, 2013 and 2016 due to transmission recalls. if you have to get any of those years, make sure the transmission has been recalled on those years. Otherwise the years 2006-2008, 2010-2012, 2014-2015 and 2017-newer are the best years. but as in all cars make sure it’s been maintained properly by the previous owner.

Safety tip: stay upwind of a lithium battery fire. AKA an EV car - TESLA is one brand -self ignite batteries! The smoke is seriously toxic. In an enclosed space, don't try to fight the fire - you'll fail - just get outside.
Don't buy a vehicle with turbo's that are failing. Many 4 cylinders can't handle over boost. Stupid manufacturers limit the boost to not destroy the engine.
Just bring back the rear wheel drive Pontiacs and Chevys with their big V8 engines. All this tech crap for better gas mileage is useless when it costs thousands of dollars in repairs to keep them on the road.
Life to short to be driving boring cars just keep changing your fluids on time or early and not buy a turbo car with high mileage and you should be good
