  • We're still not sure to whom the MT-09 is targeted. Let's see if we can find out.

As a 2021 MT09 SP owner I have to admit this was a hard video to watch but I have come to a far different conclusion about mine. I love it. I do not have any issues with the brakes. I can activate ABS easily with two fingers and they have always been consistent. I also love the TFT, it provides me the info I need at a glance, RPM (The color can even be set to change from white to green to orange depending on the revs), my speed and gear are also right there all in large easy to read characters. As you glossed over the bike has a very comfortable upright seating position with bars wide enough to easily command the bike. The motor is fantastic! offering power all over. Once I took some of the dampening out of the suspension I am very happy with it as well but like I said I have the SP and bothered to adjust it to my liking.
A quick check of the US market shows that the Ducati and BMW are about 70% more expensive than the base MT09. I would not expect a bike that cost 63% (From your numbers on max pulido's post earlier) of what it is being compared to to feel as premium.
My MT has provided me with thousands of miles of smiles. I tear up the twisties, wheelie like a hooligan, taken it touring and it gets me to work. If things like the TFT and switchgear are what you are focused on maybe you are missing the point of the bike.

I second all of this. I am also an SP owner and I think we made the best choice for a naked middleweight bike. It’s a sweet spot for price quality and fun. I also wish I did a little more research before posting my first comment on the pricing of bikes he was comparing the mt to but the fun factor still stands.

Got an SP too and agree. SP suspension is firm and requires a bit of fiddling to get the preload and damping right but it handles everything except really beat up tarmac really well. My only gripe with the brakes is the ABS which is a bit too keen to come on (pull the fuse for really aggressive riding in good conditions). I’ve done everything on it including touring with a top box and it’s been great

I have to disagree with 90% of this review.. As does 90% of all other reviews. Having rode this bike for about three months,, I’d say it was good fun, decent handling, spirited, reliable and versatile. You can do a commute, go on a Sunday blast, of even if determined, go on a tour.

I really don’t understand why you’re trying to compare a motorcycle that’s three times the price to this motorcycle. The 3rd generation mt09 is a great improvement over the previous generation and is still one of the most playful fun bikes in the segment. Sounds like you were a little spoiled by the streetfighter.

      MT09 - £9,400
      MT09 SP - £10,650
      Streetfighter V2 - £14,999
      Spoiled? Possibly.
      Three times the price? No.
Even the Streetfighter V4S only comes to double the cost - but that's a different story.
