I recommend a hard cover, the flimsy binders don't really offer that much support once the binder fills up. It flexes, sags, and bows way too much for comfort. Especially considering the accumulated value of its contents.
Dont know if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all the new series on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf for the last days xD
thank you so much, I just by chance came across this video while considering buying a Haunted Hollows pokemon 3 ring binder. New to collecting and wanted something better, guess I'll stick with the 9 page Pokemon Folder I was thinking about buying originally.
You posted this at a perfect time; thank you so much! I just pulled out my old base/jungle/fossil collection and realized my binder was outdated but didn’t know where to start with today’s card storage products. This was perfect.
The biggest problem with the Eclipse binder is the elastic strap is stronger than the binder's flimsy cover. It presses the cover in and bends the cards in the outer corners. The binder's fine for storing on a shelf, but I would only keep the elastic strap around the back cover and not pulling the front cover over my cards.
A big issue I've found with these newer binders is that the spines are too slim for the thickness of sleeved cards when the binders are fully filled. This results in two major issues: pages do not lie flat, which will cause bend and warping in cards over time, AND even when closed, there is an outward bulge since the thickness of the filled pages is larger than the thickness of the binder's spine. Has anybody found any binders for which these are NOT issues? I'm using Dex Protector and am pretty dissatisfied.
I've actually have had more trouble with the zippers ones. It messed up a few of the corners where the zipper hits in the corner. You can get these exact binders with no zippers. My choice of brand is dex protect. It's the best
If only younger J.T. knew how to keep his cards safe...and didn't constantly pull them out of his ringer binder to look at the pretty holofoil! Thankfully I'm wiser and have upgraded to the binders you showed years back. Again, love your down to earth presentation, man. Keep it up!
I double sleeve and put them in side loading zipper binders but I never considered gel packets. Don't know how long they last but will have to buy a bunch.
Does the strap on the ultra pros ruin the cards? Ive notices that once you fill it up and it becomes thick, it puts too much pressure on the binder even bending the plastic
Question.... I have all my old 1st and 2nd Generation pokemon cards in an old stitched sideload binder. But they've been in there for literally 15-20 years. And I am switching them out to another binder but they are not sleeved and sticking to the plastic and messing up the backs. Literally ripping off the paint. Is there anything I can do to get them out without destroying my cards? 😢😢
This seems like your binder pages have acid in them. This will bring no physical harm to you but it will and obviously has melted the back of your cards into the page. There’s not really anything you can do
My storing process for my personal card sets: card+sleeve+side-load binder pages+bubble wrap mailing envelope+card board box+ plastic tote. Fire proof safe bolted to the ground is going to be bought in the very near future. Being able to lay the entire set out is just satisfying to me vs flipping pages and only seeing 9 at a time. My extras get sleeves and those binders^^^ 🐷
Appreciate your content man! I literally penny sleeve every card. I top load all special cards. Old holos, new vmax, and such. I have a couple normal binders but mostly just use them for old commen cards that ain't super mint
Definitely food for thought. I am using 3-ring binders, sleeved common & Uncommon, double sleeved ultra rare (side loaded inserted into a top loaded sleeve), and side loading Ultra-pro binder sheets,
Ultimately so long as you are mindful and do the basics like sleeving, you should be fine. They do make sheets that are side loading for ring binders like you said, so those are a big upgrade!
I used to have a big binder from KB Toys and I used to have loads of pages inside it. I regret not taking care of my cards properly back then. I should have sleeved them and I'm sure they would have been in better condition by now. Also when I would show my binder to others they had the habit of slamming it and sometimes the pages would come off the ring and fold in between. I decided to get new binders and I went through all my Pokemon cards and sleeved most of the ones that were in good conditions. The ones that have white edges or worn out I'll replace them slowly.
Wow that was very informative even for someone who has been collecting cards since the 90’s, great video! I’m going to have to fix my cards in all of my binders now :)
I think you have to be careful with the tightly stitched binders as if you fill them to capacity you’ll notice the pages start to bend, especially at the slot closest to the stitching. I’ve had a couple ultra pro binders that have done this and warped some cards and read reviews on the z-folio doing similar in certain models. Good tips though, keep it up!
Just bought an awesome card that the seller said was mint. Turns out, it has a slight binder ring dent in it. It’s not too noticeable but I can’t send it in for grading now. I hope more people watch this vid.
Thank you this video is definitely helpful I’ve been wondering about new binders lately, and maybe I’m wrong but I think in binders like this you’d have a better chance of avoiding bending and warping bc of less space and the cards are less mobile
LOL there is absolutely no difference in side vs top loaded sleeves, the possibility of them falling out is exactly the same and arguably higher for side loaded when thinking about common possible orientations people might hold a binder without thinking about it. Holding a binder upside down is obviously not right and most people wouldnt, but some people might hold it sideways and then boom, 50% chance it's orientated to possibly fall out. As for wear on the cards when pulling them out, the exact same issue happens just now its on the side instead of the top. I suppose having it along the longer side of the card might make it SLIGHTLY easier but still no, just no
Sideloading cloth binders are more secure, that is not a matter of opinion, that is simply how physics work. The friction of the cloth coupled with the sideloading angle verses a top load allows for the pages to bend along the opening, which puts less risk of the card falling out while turning the page, during travel, etc.
Great video! Keep up the good content. Could you go over fitted sleeves vs penny sleeves in a future video? Side and top loading fitted sleeves as well? I like to use both, one fitted and one penny, in some instances.
Be careful I’ve found the double sleeve has warped card in the past, I prefer fitted for cards over 3£ anything under (Rev holos.) I’ll use a penny sleeve
Not a great counter to the top loading pages, as the card didn't fall out. I have the side loading binders and the larger side opening (along with the smoother non-friction surface) allowed the cards to fall out easier. Not to mention, the way you hold your binder, the side loading pockets tends to be more susceptible to cards falling out unless there is enough friction in the pockets to keep the card from moving at all. All the card sleeves I have are a little too big, so they won't fit in a pocket page. Anyone who doesn't already know, you need to buy specific sized card sleeves and pocket pages that will accommodate each other if you plan on sleeving and placing them in a pocket. Just a tiny little detail that is overlooked. I've never had the ring issue with my cards, but I'm always careful when flipping through my binder, and I always make sure to get the D ring binders when possible. Some of my better binders just don't use the D ring binder, which is just frustrating. Zippered binders are definitely the way to go for all the valuable cards. I only have two, a Rayvol and a Pokonboy, and I think they're the better option. Also found a fancy plastic storage shelf that holds each individual binder in its own enclosed tray on Amazon if you want even more security for your binders, lol.
@@CNA-Games you mentioned a small ding from a binder kills surface grading. I got a great deal on a holo Evolutions charizard with crazy bleed but it had a very small ding from binder. The rest looks good and just one tiny print line . Say if it was a 8-9 without the small ding , what will the ding bring it down to. Is it worth submitting?
It's hard to know without looking at it. Squeaks Gaming World just did a video about grading cards with ring dings, you can see what his got on his channel.
Even the newer binders seem to be too flexible and seem to bend the cards even more in some cases... I own both my advice is to not over load and store it on its open end and leave them alone! That seems to work for me... Really depends on how you store and take care of them!🔍👁
There's no ultra pro binder that holds top loaders. I think there are top loader binders out there but I don't have any experience with them. They do make top loader deck boxes to hold them though!
All the old wotc cards I have that have silvering came out of the pack like that. Some were even from blister packs so I'm pretty sure wotc cards just have silvering naturally especially fossil set.
Good tips bro. I have a top deck binder similar to the ultra pro one and sleeve all cards in it. Definitely worth investing in a good binder and sleeves for long term collections.
when i went to my first prerelease 7 years ago this is bacically the first thing i noticed was everyone was using these and since then ive converted and they are way better
So i have one of those z folio binders for pokemon cards. But my penny sleeves always feel a little too tight to slide in there and I worry I will damage my cards. What penny sleeves do you recommend for pokemon cards so they fit perfectly snug?
i use DEX binders with the zipper. The only thing i use, they cost around $30 each but are top quality. it has a velvet interior. i also have some of the Dex DeckBox Holders which are nice.
Just bought something similar! I was always skeptical of my top loading binders. And lol, didn’t know that you were supposed to put the cards in protectors.. oops
Also, what about putting the holo and then the non holo behind in the same slot. Not recomended? Was thinking of that for like the mcdonalds promos or something
what about the "card guard" similar binder to the 1st ultra pro one you showed. Its side loading as well pretty much identical just not ultra pro. Im just concerned with those binders if you really load it up and its weighted cards can get some warping if you literally fill it full back to front with cards in sleeves. IDK you/someone tell me
I have one of those old binders and don't have any problems with it. I think the key is to not overfill it. I have 50 ultra pro platinum pages with every card sleeved upside down in an ultra pro eclipse sleeve. But I do have the rest of my collection in a couple ultra pro pro binders.
I recommend a hard cover, the flimsy binders don't really offer that much support once the binder fills up. It flexes, sags, and bows way too much for comfort. Especially considering the accumulated value of its contents.
Yup. You want to keep your cards flat. So get the hard cover binders to keep your cards from bending too much.

D-Ring binders are fine as long as you lay them down.

It's nice to see that my binder upgrading over the past 3 years has been the right choice! Thanks! Great video!
what about that elastic clasp does that pressure damage cards over time?
I’ve slowly been converting to these more flexible binders. They’re great

what do you think about dragon shield slipcase binders?
The slipcases stop the ring dings to an extent and the dust issues, but they are expensive and still less protective.
