  • Storing your Pokemon cards in a binder doesn’t guarantee card preservation and protection! Watch this video so you know what to do (and what NOT to do) when it comes to storing your Pokemon Cards (or any cards) in a binder for protection.
    We’re in this for the long term, right? Don’t regret the binder decisions you make now 30 years later when you pull them out of the closet again.
    For the best binders, I recommend VaultX brand products. Since publishing this video, I've become an ambassador for their brand, and negotiated a discount for you!

    Living in Puerto Rico, you need to double sleeve, zip side loaded binder, and leave a little humidity bag in the binder. Extra protection to prevent humidity to enter the card, and double sleeping really helps with dust.

    When it comes to card sleeves, Dragon Shield's Sealable Sleeves are the objectively best choice. The sleeves get sealed so no dirt and dust gets in, which means that there's no need to double sleeve. And even if you do double sleeve, there's no longer any change of dust and dirt getting inside the inner sleeve, as it's completely sealed. Also, since you don't need to double sleeve, there is less plastic blurring the artwork while the cards are in a binder. All in all, the absolutely best choice.

    • @PhoenixLaw92
      @PhoenixLaw92 Год назад +1

      @Pico 95 I've got the Dragon Shield sealable inners on my collection and I've had no issues getting cards in and out of them. Hell, I go a step further and have all my cards sleeved in normal Dragon Shield sleeves too.

    • @diegovillavicencio3172
      @diegovillavicencio3172 Год назад +2

      perfect fit sleeves are cancer for your cards imo, i double sleeve by using a regular dragon shield sleeve and then putting that inside an even bigger sleeve, that way it's not tight inside and I don't risk rubbing the plastic of the inner sleeve against the holo of my card, in fact in yugioh even the back can get scratched this way

    One thing to add, be careful of the perfect fit sleeves as they can actually cause bending to the cards long term. There are some snug fitting sleeves out there that don't bend the cards. I personally use close fit sleeves with a penny sleeve on top going in opposite directions ✅

    There's another reason to sleeve the cards before inserting them in the binder: Those pages with the soft texture in back can actually leave an imprint of that texture on a card (if you insert a bare card and there's enough pressure put on it over time).
    Also, If you want to use ring binders instead of the ones with a fixed number of pages, you can buy side-loading pages, including the kind with that soft texture in back.

    Yeah I stored a bunch of my old collector cards outside in my shed because I never knew that the blistering heat and humidity would essentially destroy them. Ironically my Pokémon cards held up better than my other ones. I also learnt the hard way to NOT lay them flat unless it is a SINGLE binder. This makes it much harder for me to store my card binders because I have limited space...so I have learnt to use small gaps behind furniture as maskeshift shelves (if it's too tight of a fit then I don't do it and I always clean to ward off dust).

      The problem with the pages is that they’re small, only fitting 4 on one side and also in my quest to find one, they sell out very frequently. They are way better than just sleeveing your cards though. The important thing is to sleeve your card upside down and then put it into the top loader right side up to protect both top and bottom. The binder still has the ring which can cause damage and the number of pages it can fit is limited. What I did and suggest is picking up a 4x6 photo album without rings. It has no chance of warping your cards even in the top loaders like the ring can (trust me, learned from tough experience thinking top loaders meant it was always safe). 2 top loaders fits in each photo slot. Just get one where each page is 2 pictures wide and where both picture slots are accessed from the middle. This ensures with the edge to edge of your top loaders that your cards won’t simply just fall out, at least not easily. If the cards are going to stay in that spot, you can also add double sided tape to the back of the top loader if you’re concerned about them falling out. I haven’t done this though because I like to be able to move my cards around easily if needed. A little extra care turning pages is all you need to keep it neat, in order and the cards staying nice and snug in their slots,

    I actually noticed my own "Bad Binder Behavior" and am in the middle of switching over my sets from ring binders to ultra pro series side loading binders, the pro binders actually take up less space to. Also I only fitted sleeve reverse holos and up, I don't bother with the Commons, uncommons and non holo rares as I think they should stay good as long as you store the binders properly.

    This is all amazing info, I try to steer people away from ring binders all together for cards. Honestly by the time you buy better quality pages and a dring you are better off at least getting a side loader fix page ultra pro with the strap. Just don't overload binders.
    I know a lot of people prefer direct fit but I prefer penny sleeve myself for binder cards. I feel like they fill the space better, and better protect the card / don't damage the card by being too tight fitting causing light scratches, scuffs, abrasions. I used to direct fit and penny sleeve but just penny sleeve now. (My binders are pretty much never mobile / moved though, this might factor into preference) I only have 1 vaultx binder, the rest are ultra pro side loaders.
    I also have too many toploaders and card savers in use to count. I team bag and shallow tote card savers, single row standing vertical, never stack. Depending on humidity I recommend dessicant balls, rechargable ones that change color when they draw moisture and can be dried in the oven can be bought in bulk tubs and put into pouches. I use them for storage and around my binders etc. I noticed holo warping early on in collecting from humidity and this seems to have helped/saved me 100%. Depending on your area/climate there can be a few factors to consider that would vary. I mean I wonder about just oxidation etc on cardboard over time. I love the channel and info you are providing in your videos.

    Storing up right for those with d rings 9 page sleeves are the worst options. You will need to store it downwards and let the sleeves hanging so the cards does not warp when the population is not enough to make it stand in the 1st place. And make sure all cards are populated and no odd one out to prevent those cease.

    I have two of the zip up card books and I use them to store my cards (Mostlys Vs, EXs and GXs), the opening is on the side and I always sleeve my cards before they go in so my cards have remained in really good condition.
    Didn't know the not storing them on top of each other them thing so good thing I found this ^^

    Mine are sleeved and in the card folio. Some are double sleeved with the perfect fit and the usual ones you get in like an etb. For looks purposes i like the silver border they give to the cards.

  • @rusefoxghost

    I got my binder as a gift a decade ago with ultra pro pages. Thankfully I did everything right since then! I stick my cards in sleeves then put them in each page slot. I use the sleeves I get in elite trainer boxes though, I should probably get better ones.

    I only collect cards and have a preferred method (also use the binders mentioned in the video). When I store my pokemon cards I always sleeve them with the Ultra Pro brand or a similar brand that has a thick protector. I put my cards in the sleeves upside-down so the bottom of the card is at the opening. When they go in the binders they are upright so the top is protected by the sleeve and the botton protected by the page. As for putting in multiple in a slot I only put 2 cards (sorted in numerical order) because I find it to be more secure due to the thickness of the cards and sleeves make the slot tight and prevent them from falling out.

    So i kinda have a problem so you know the sleeves you get in elite trainer boxes well i use those to sleeve up my cards and put it in the binder the problem is that the sleeves are to big because of the binder page sizes so i am either thinking do i get the tight fit sleeves to see if that works or no sleeves just binder alone?
