I wholeheartedly agree with this, a while ago I sold my collection because it was overwhelming me and taking over too much of my life. Then 151 came out and I fell in love. Now I’m solely focusing on a binder that will eventually have a master set of 151 as well as my favorite artworks of the original 151 Pokémon from sets I’ve accumulated along the way. As a 90s kid, the nostalgia helped me refocus as a collector. Having a goal and design in mind has made this hobby 10x more fun and more manageable than it was before!

As someone who's been in this for 25 years, this was actually all very good advice. Although I've rarely if ever let anything go. For the first 8 years of Pokémon I just collected everything - complete sets and every promo, but by the time of Gen 4, it all became too much and I just collected certain things. My main collections are Artist (Arita in JPN and ENG for example) or Species completism (JPN & ENG). I've got so many cards now that it's taken over parts of my house.

I am one of the many who recently returned to collecting because of 151. I'm still figuring out my collection and where I want to go, first it was full arts then I started collecting vintage. Now I want to complete base set thru gym challenge heros, along with randomly picking up cards I like. Still figuring out this process but this video was very informational!

Great video! One of your earlier videos talked about focusing down on a niche and not trying to collect EVERYTHING which stuck with me! I collect Steelix Engish and Japanese cards as a core focus, with a few other random cards I like here and there to spice things up. Done are the days of trying to master set EVERY set because I realized I ended up with a ton of bulk and I was spending money on cards I didn't really care about just to complete a set.

FANTASTIC video! Figuring out what to collect is a challenge. there are too many cards to catch them all (unless you have an unlimited budget). I try to adhere to most of these already, fortunately. I work towards "sets" by only keeping 1 copy of any card I pull. Exceptions would be the big hitter names that may appreciate over time. (rayquaza, pikachu, starters, etc).

I just started collecting. Very lightly though. In the theme of "catch 'em all" my goal is to make a "living dex" from packs my wife and I have exclusively opened. Our rarest or favorite card will take up each pokemon spot and replace previous editions with newer/better ones as we continue to open more packs. Keeping in separate binder(s) the other cards we just like

This was an another amazing video, and was very inspirational. If I had to pick my favorite item(s) in my collection, it would have to either be my recent Southern Islands pickup as it has a lot of history and I find that as interesting, or my aunts binder that was given to me full of base set-Gym Challenge cards because of how I got it and who I got it from, and the history behind it.

My actual collection goals are really to complete modern sets as they are released (started getting back into it with Celebrations.). Also, I do collect Eevee and all it's evolutions in a special binder. That bulk adds up for sure, and I sell some singles that are duplicates but agree the selling side is another discussion. Great video. Like anything else in life is the journey that I find rewarding, and everyone's journey is different. Personally, aiming to get all Alternate Arts in English and Japanese in PSA 10, and all top 10 cards from every set since XY in PSA 10. I love looking at the old XY( I understand old is relative, but this is what I relate to) cards and new Alt Cards, and ranking my favorite with my son. Monetary value is secondary, and the bond the cards create with my kid is most important, everyone has their own journey. For me personally, there is something I find unique and appealing with AA, versus the new ones in S&V, which are great on their own merit, but my heart is with the AA, may be someday my son and I will feel the same way about the new S&V cards which are great.

So happy to learn I am collecting "the right way". I am much like the Rayquaza girl, but collecting Snorunt and Froslass. I'm pretty far with the English and Japanese cards, but my lane sometimes gets wider. I learned about Japanese sets having both Unlimited and First Edition cards, for example. New sets keep coming, of course. And then there are the remaining languages, which I am keeping as a stretch goal for now. The hardest part is to resist the urge to buy ETBs, as collecting a species means buying singles and not really pulling them yourself!

I have two binders in my collection. One is for all my hits/single purchases, which include all the "good valuable" stuff, and in my second binder, I simply collect holos, foils, and reverse holo rares. These don't hold monetary value, but keeping them in a separate binder is satisfactory to me because I see a collage of different colors and pokemon that I really like. I don't have that much bulk, but I do keep it safely stored in an ETB box. I'll probably end up giving it to younger kids who are getting into the pokemon community and are looking to kick-start their collections. Happy collecting everyone!

I just started collecting and I found some cool cards that I have in the front of my binder. My binder is a mess of different years of cards but I'm building a living Dex of base set cards. All of my holo cards will be put in a separate binder later on

Hey Pat! @DannyPhantump put out a video about FOMO and collecting goals about a year or two ago that really helped me change my collection aspirations. This video only reaffirms and reinforces what I thought/learned then. Thank you!

probably the best thing i own is a set of both the japanese and anglish versions of cool porygon, in a psa 8 and 9 respectively lol, valuewise not much but the time it took from finding out about his coolness, to getting my hand on it was great

    My proudest collection pieces:
    Every Tauros card ever
OG 151 from Base, Jungle and Fossil
    25th Anniversary Master Set
Now I'm working on all the TG cards from Sw/Sh and the GG from Crown Zenith. I wanna do SV art rares and SARs but there's just SO many 😵‍💫

Im most proud of my Growlithe/Arcanine collection. Im not done but i have about 80% of the prints (and about 300 in duplicates 😅) but working on it has been a fun goal

im an OG (im old) i completely collected Scarlet and Violet 151 base because it brought me back to my childhood in the 90s, i started binge watching all the episodes starting from season 1 and im season Advanced Battle now, damn I'm not sure if I'm going to weather the voice changes I see that are coming up.
My wish is for a Johto set to come out now to continue where 151 ended. Until then I bought a binder and I'm sorting per generation per what I've watched (waiting for a modern chikorita 😉) based on pokedex numbers. When I open packs now I don't really care too much about the crazy chase cards, it's more like Yes!! my first Skitty and now I gotta get another pack for Delcatty!! 😂

Well for me I got a 151 binder for Christmas I got a few art cards but the really good thing was when I got scarlet and violet packs I got the really rare Miriam alt art and I keep it in a mini binder and keep it in that chest so nobody steals it

I've been wanting to start collecting pokemon cards since I'm taking my degree, but haven't gotten to it at the time because I'm broke. But after I've finished my studies and got a job, I got into pokemon card collecting a few months ago, with my first four packs being 2 Paldea Evolved, and 2 Shining Fates. But when I discovered the SIR Garchomp EX in Raging Surf (I'm a huge Garchomp fan) and finding out that its in Paradox Rift, I've been sticking to that particular set in hopes to get that Garchomp card, and trying to complete the set. Who knows, maybe if I got to finish my binder, I might continue with Paldea Evolved again.

I only collect sealed products that I think are cool or rare and occasionally I open up few Sets that have cool cards in them, like Crown Zenith or 151. In the future I would also like to get into graded cards and grade few pulls of mine as well.

My son Collects Growlithe and Arcanine cards I do Lechonk and Oinkologne - those are mostly cheap so it's fun. Other than that we buy waay to many boosters and have a nice/mid collection of arts/V's/Ex's/FA. I'm also very poud of my staff and professors university stamped cards :)

I like to hold on to one of each card- like the holos or best condition one- and donate/trade the rest. I order them by type and dex number in my binders, and the act of ordering them that way is therapeutic and nostalgic to me. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the expanse of expensive and new pokemon card out there, but every time I reoder my cards I am reminded why I have them.

That fire hose scene in the end 😂
But my favorite card in my collection is the secret rare iono from Paldea evolved ! My 8 year old niece pulled and I plan on holding on to it for her and giving it to her once she’s older 😊

im mostly proud of my winnings from other poketubers. it has a lot of sentimental value and the cards are most important to me. i don't want to sell them it's just that Pokemon to me are like family, in my opinion and the artwork is so real. i hope to learn more about Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh collecting at card party 2.

After getting back into collecting. I just realized I needed to pick a set and stay with it. I just started back collecting after almost 20+ years and my mistake was buying packs from a variety of sets. I told myself I’ll just stick with 151 and PF. Now I have to do something with LugiaV alt art I just pulled😞
