Rudy made a similar point in a video he did a while back. A $10k collection consisting of ten $1k cards is far more valuable than a $10k collection of ten thousand $1 cards.
This was already a frustrating exchange or experience with card collecting in general over the last decade, and has gotten WAY worse with all the headlines about tens of thousands of dollars in Pokemon cards. ugh. Thanks for being so genuine, glad you have you all locally.
The amount of times I see people search eBay listings, or a RUclipsr only shows the PSA10 price when showing the raw card, or someone having no idea what condition means have definitely grown in the few years.
This is really helpful. I'm glad you made this video cause I've been thinking of trying to sell my bulk and this puts things into perspective. Thanks :)
Well said! Takes SO much time sorting cards day in and day out! Much more feasible to buy cards that have more liquidity. Terrific video/chat as always.
The thing is you have to do these kind of games to turn a profit. People don’t realize 99% of all these streamers suck as myself on there we buy from the secondary market. The only way to turn a profit is run some kind of bounty add $1-$2 to pack sales to cover the bounty cost and turn a profit on the bounty it’s self. If you sell just packs you will lose money. Nobody will pay more for just a pack. And if I sell a pack for it’s cost I lose money. Every sale cost a minimum of $1.50 for a $1 sale cause of the fees taken out and supplies like, sleeves, toploader, cardboard to San which cards, team bags for packaging cards, envelopes, labels, printer ink & paper if a pack is worth $5 I sell it for $5 I will only net around $3.25 for that pack of cards after paying for all supplies and the 30 cents transaction fee and the 11% to whatnot
I agree with you Mason. There's a reason why bulk cards are considered bulk. It's because there is very little demand for them which is reflected by it's price. If you as the person selling doesn't want to piece out bulk cards individually to sell them, then that goes to show how hard it is to sell/pass them on to someone else.
First time listener. What most people don't consider is you aren't byying for personal use. You're buying to make a profit, and not just a profit. Time, taxes, storage, and even how long aomething takes to sell. That random rev holo is worth like $3 or something on Ebay. But you subtract shipping supplies, taxes you will pay, you won't break even if you buy at a dollar per card. It might take 18 months to resell.
I understand this so much... Not as a customer, not as a seller but as a collector who knows the time and effort required to unload these beautiful slices of cardboard.
Great video, man. I do wish that potential buyers would put in a little bit more work to understand just what it is they're trying to sell and what they can reasonably expect for it. I run into the same issue that you explained when buying MtG collections from Craigslist, yardsales, etc. It's unfortunate that people discover that their $1000 collection is worth much less when trying to sell it, but I guess that's just the way it is.
Ahhhhh. Last November not knowing anything about my vintage Pokémon collection brought my LGS a mint skyridge umbreon h30/h32 they offered me $60! Come to find out it was $600 card!
You probably already do this but you can dump all those 1 cent cards in a 10 cent binder and anybody who goes to your store can look through your 10 cent binders looking for random stuff. I'm not that much into pokemon(have some stuff) but that's what my card store did with yugioh. Stacks upon stacks of cards for 10 cents each. You can also have a $2 set of binders.
At least you’re being realistic about it all. It does take time to sort everything and you won’t get an immediate return. It’s the life of business in the hobby.
Yeah, I almost spit my drink all over my keyboard when he said 1 cent cash value...I knew this guy scalped his own product but he's also hosing people on bulk...damn
Did you see how much bulk he has he doesn't have an obligation to buy it at the best price if he already has a mountain of it. If he really needed bulk he would pay more to incentivize people to bring it to him.
Bulk is going to give you a negative return most of the time unless you have a large enough operation set up to absorb it all. Your local LGS should be paying rock bottom prices on bulk because they are not set up to handle the volume.
I don't do a lot with bulk lots currently. If we started that up we would pay more for sure, but for now I already get a ton of it and as you can see I have a pretty good stockpile at the moment!
@@CNA-Games That sounds Great, I appreciate the update! Thank you. Shortly after I wrote my comment, I got an email confirmation from your store saying it is being shipped 👍🏼. Thanks again for making these videos and sharing them! Happy to support your store.
I liked this video. I never really thought about the time it would take store employees to actually inventory all of the cards. Store employees certainly need to get paid for their work! You might consider having a flyer in your store about "How to sell your Pokemon cards online" which could outline all of the necessary work. That could potentially help people understand why you have to pay lower than they would expect. I was also quite surprised to hear you buy bulk cards by weight. I just hadn't heard that was a thing.
Yeah! 6.4 ounces is about 100 cards (we add a little to be generous tbh). I know some places use height or an ETB with marks on it, but it's just easier and faster to throw it all on a scale.
Not just inventory. Imagine having to go in your system and log all of the set cards, where they belong and whatever info you might add. For me when I sat down and did Weiss Schwarz Fujimi Bunko 2 years ago. I manually added all of the images, the card info, prices etc all before release. You know how long it took do just that by myself? It took me 3 days to catalog an entire set of 100+ cards including promo etc. Now granted, most shops don't go as far as to add card info. But some of us do. And boy does that take a hell of a long time to do. I'd rather sit and count cards than input a set's card list individually. Although, using excel probably would have been better. But I don't understand Shopify's way of wanting the stuff done. lol
I will not be bringing my bulk. Just rares holos and all the v and ect. I am open to seeling you the doubles or triples of my rares. So I am hoping u have enough stock for me when I get there. We just got a week and a half before we head your way 😁
I had same experience at a yard sale.. they had 40 binders of sports cards and they wanted to sell them for what they were "worth" but didn't know.. they had a binder of ninja turtle movie cards.. so looked them up for them.. could buy complete set NM for $10 on ebay.. they were shocked.. needless to say they didn't sell me any 😑
I sold a handful of cards and it was such a terrible and unprofitable experience I’ll never do it again. On the other hand I can find decent deals on playable cards, play at my LGS and probably make my money back that way, I have no problem turning around and selling it back to the LGS at a loss, got my money’s worth out of it.
With those people I think you should do this. For example. If you have a base set Charizar;led in store for sale , ask them to look one up and tell u how much they think it’s worth. Then show them how much you have it for sale for in your store lol.
also have u got any test tube mewtwo's for sale? bought 1 off rbay and it was fake so im now skeptical buying another and i cant find any stores locally with one, preferably raw as i want to put it in my binder
If those people want larger returns put in the damn work and sell it yourself- you have to leave meat on the bone when you sell to an LGS with no effort on your part. Some just want maximum return with very little effort.
Still waiting on my product from you. in a previous video you posted you said that they would arrive early or on release date. Disappointed because I bought from you on that assumption of a timely order.
If those people had ever priced the cost to sleeve those cards, protect them during shipping with cardboard or toploaders, then envelopes, tape, postage costs, they might understand more of where you're coming from. Appreciate the content!
@cardnallgaming I understand that you have to give less cash for bulk (10% range), a little more is allowed for $10 cards (30% range maybe), and more value for bigger value cards 70% range). As you said, less work it takes to resell, the higher the allowable purchase price from the customer. But, where do you, well stores stand when someone brings you a sealed collection?
I think you can't say, it's lot of work and because of that I buy a 2$ card for 1,30$! That's your problem, not the costumers! For what is there a market who make the prices? If everyone thinks like that, than we can all make our own prices!
I understand we're your coming from but that's better then trying to find a buyer on eBay or tcg player. Spend money on supplies to ship. Then to pay taxes on those sales for each platform....to then finally pay federal taxes at the end of the year for your gains. So if someone is willing to buy something in one purchase is a win... especially if this is not a business but rather a hobby. Getting something in turn for cards that you have no interest for.
There's just no supply coming from Bandai right now. I always buy when I can because I never know how long it might be before we get more in. The shipping container crisis on the west coast is really hammering that area of hobbies.
