My name is Mason and I’m an owner of Card N All Gaming in Louisville, Kentucky. Follow along in this series of videos and gain insight from what the hobby is like for a game store owner that’s been buying and selling Pokemon for nearly 10 years. I encourage you to engage in conversation and ask me questions that you always wanted to know the answers to but never get the chance to ask a hobby store business owner.

Hey man thank you for being an lgs I cant imagine the struggles that come with it and how big corporate conglomerates can just crush you guys they get more product at a lower price with a larger consumer base us in the hobby need to step back and appreciate it. Did you end up getting the raw cards graded? If yes, what grades did they come back with?

Thanks for the advice! I have seen that promo box with that Pikachu promo card at my local Barnes & Noble for the last few weeks, but I thought nothing of it because I saw undesirable packs in my eyes and I don't even know if I looked at the promo, so I bought it and got 20% off because the box was ripped(it was ripped the first time I saw it) and I also got a full art card from the Guardians rising pack, so it was definitely worth the 15 bucks. Yes! Thank you for acknowledging the full art trainers especially the waifus I’ve been on that train for like 2 years now and it’s like 70% of my collection.

Good advice here about buying in person for grading, especially the point he makes on centering @ 14:00. There are a couple of Magic reserved list cards that I really love and buy a lot of raw near mint copies of from TCG Player and Ebay. Most are probably an 8 or 9. Maybe 1 in 10 is perfect enough that it might be a 10 when graded.

I think compared to others in e-commerce, your website is very priced to sell. Really competitive and beats most of the competition. Not to mention, you seem like a much more trustworthy individual who wouldn't let people get screwed.
Great video. There are some great LGS card stores and we've visited some in person, and some... sports card stores that are a bit different when it comes to Pokemon. In person stuff is a bit challenging due to covid of course.
Love your channel! Live in Sweden though and sadly don't have a card shop like yours nearby. Would definitely order online if I could!

I love buying singles from my LGS. Over the last year I’ve probably spent 2k on singles alone whether it be for grading or personal collection. It’s been a lot harder to find nice mint cards lately, more people in the hobby buying them. It’s still nice to look every other week and get a few. I wish there were ships like yours around me, most stores just have mtg.
Can you do a video on buying singles to sell in your shop / your buying process? I'm currently only dealing in sealed products and would like to start selling singles
Maaan, In my country. I only know of 2 card stores in the capital. 6 million people. And as a girl, they haven't taken me too seriously, which sucks. You seem very nice, I'd love to visit stores like yours😊

Hm, that's wild, I'm surprised. Denver is pretty big on gaming so that is pretty interesting there isn't any shops.

My card shop stopped selling singles unfortunately :( wish I could come visit your store! We need to appreciate LGSs more, I just drop in to buy sleeves and toploaders instead of going to amazon or online

Just got my shiny mewtwo from you guys and loved being able to choose which one I wanted.
It's kind of great. While everyone is out buying shiny star v, I'm saving my money and finding vivid voltage in store and preording my shining fates. Thank you for all your insight.
What I run into is that no card stores really have any kind of selection. They might have like 20 cards.
There’s a LGS near me who literally told me they don’t put nice cards out on the floor nor do they offer the gradeable vintage to be purchased in store, they send it to another place where they have a website and they send that stuff to grade and then jack the prices over market when they come back and people pay it so they don’t stop.

Hey man. Been digging your videos and honest opinions. How can I buy some singles? I checked out your website, and the singles selection is small. No hate, I'm sure entering all those singles online would be a nightmare. But is there a way I can find out what you've got and buy some?

Honestly my local tabletop games shop has been a godsend, they aren't on google shopping or ebay or anything so they aren't constantly out of stock and they sell all their stuff at RRP, so no price gouging, the people there are also really nice :)

Sadly all my local card shops hardly do any card stuff Ironically. They are mostly into board game stuff. They may have a couple blister packs or pin boxes but no singles or really care about the tcg stuff. Looks like I need to take a trip! lol

The reason 99% of people ignore card stores now is because it's all too expensive. we're all trying to get the best deals and almost all of the time card stores are not the best place to get deals at. they're just sources to buy from that MIGHT be cheaper than other online sources.
Card stores jack up their prices to even higher than market value. They need to make a profit on top of what the market price actually is. Eg. Hidden Fates tins are $80 at LGS compared to only $35 at Walmart, etc.
@@CommandoMaster Yeah, I get that. but people also need to get deals, so in the end most people will prioritize getting cases at $500 over one from an LGS at $600. just talking about why people actively choose to ignore card stores

Pokemon is just what I know the best, but the plan is to do a lot with this channel with more game store content. I just gotta get my guys to sit down and focus on it!

- What is your business philosophy with operation of a card/gaming store and how, if at all, has it shifted over the years with your experiences. With a lot of retailers, in general, preferring e-commerce due to the risk and liabilities with owning brick & mortar, it seems that a safer route is to primarily sell via online to mitigate costs.
-What benefits do you see (from any perspective) with operating via a brick and mortar?
- Does e-commerce seem to do well for your store now in 2020 and, do you intend to leverage it more now that you have reach to more customers due to the internet and the connectivity it provides to people all over the country/world?
- What improvements would you like to see to your physical location in the near future?
- I understand that money isn't necessarily a primary motivator for all business owners. What would you say are your ideal hopes, goals, and motivators that has led you to be in this industry for as long as you have.
I know that was a lengthy response, but I was hoping to pick your brain as I think the content you cover in your videos is extremely fascinating! Regardless I hope the holiday season is treating you well and I'm looking forward to more videos from you in the future!

Your card store infrastructure in the u.s seems better than in Germany for example!
I live in a middle big city and no card store here!
Only the biggest cities have a couple but I have to go at least 50 -80 miles for a card shop!

wow i wish i lived near this shop. i love searching for singles and most of the shops near my house only have the $1-2 singles in their store and the rest are on their tcgplayer acccount
We had a few killer card stores however in the last 5 years we seen to have lost them all around me right before the hype came back in with cards which sucks

I started a relationship with a card store. They charged me 70 euros for a shining fates tin. It didn't last long.

I don't sell jumbo cards. I normally give them away to kids when they come in. :)
Local card store is mainly MTG and only sells Pokemon Booster Boxes. It is all good but you should expand to Denver ;)

Exactly. EBay is a headache. Shipping costs 10% eBay 3% PayPal then you have to worry about the item making it to the buyer etc. Your 70% is fair imo.
