Just imagine if Schumi was driving with fastest cars then as Hamilton now. He would have at least 10 titles. It is the brilliance of knowing how to beat faster cars. That makes Schumi the best of all time.

There were many great drivers in the formula one and everyone deserves his glory but when it came to driving skills like under rainy conditions, man, i was a kid and so mindblown watching on tv how anyone could drive that fast and conscious. There have been drivers and michael. He was lightyears ahead of everyone else when driving in rain. Noone was even compareable to him.

That is why Schumacher placed a great deal of emphasis on physical fitness, and raised the game to another level. It is chiefly for that reason that Schumacher was able to drive the car at a qualifying-type pace for 90 consecutive minutes, and beating other drivers, without having the best technical package. The 1994 Benetton (and to a lesser extent the 1995 Benetton) was proof of that fact. Michael had beaten the technically superior, Newey-designed Williams in 1994 &1995, and when Berger drove Schumacher's 1995 F1 car at Benetton in early 1996, he could not believe that Schumacher won the F1 title with that "dynamically unstable" car he called "cucumber/Gurke".....

One of the hardest circuits of all time is acctually Interlagos.
"The circuit is known for its many inclines and formerly bumpy surface, which could take its toll on F1 cars because they have a very low ride height and little suspension travel. The races are therefore very tough on the car, and also physically tough on the drivers, especially since the circuit is anti-clockwise, where the centrifugal forces in the many hard left turns push the drivers' necks to the right, instead of left as in the majority of circuits on the F1 calendar."
And thats why so very few has won there more than once.
      Senna (2 times) and Shumacher (4 times ) !

Between 1992 and 2004, the F1 World Championship was a competition between Adrian Newey and Michael Schumacher, a competition which Michael clinched for himself with a score of 7:6.....While the drivers of the Newey-designed Williams and McLaren were arbitrarily interchangeable---whereby even mediocre drivers like Mansell, Hill and Villeneuve could win championships with technically superior Newey "packages"----Michael Schumacher did NOT NEED the technically best car to score race wins, just a car that was reasonably close to the top....The 1994 Benetton, and to a lesser degree also the 1995 Benetton, as well as the 2000 and 2003 Ferrari were not the best overall technical packages of the field, yet Schumacher still won on account of his incomparable driving skills...
Those driving skills prevailed particularly on drivers' tracks like Monaco, Spa and Suzuka...Schumacher was by far the Greatest Grand Prix Driver of all times, and what made him far greater than the rest was the fact that HE NEVER JOINED A WINNING TEAM, but rather converted mediocre cars into consistent championship winners....

    • @TheGabe92

+Dr. Jeremiah Heidenreich I agree with you except for your assessment of Nigel Mansell who came very close to winning the WDC in 86 against Prost who was driving a very competitive McLaren. Putting him in a sentence with Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve doesn't sit well eith me tbh.
But I agree that Schumacher was on a completely different level compared to them. Being a competent F1 driver is one thing, being a top driver another. But completely changing the level of competition and expectations teams have in a driver simply be being there and being so unbelievably goddamn great that anything that had been deemed good before could afterwards only be called insufficient is unique in this sport. It hasn't happened before and it probably won't happen again.
Thank you for showing us how deep racing really is, Michael.

    • @C3lloman
      @C3lloman 8 лет назад +4

Agree mostly, except in 2003 he had the best car, which is reflected in Rubens Barrichello scoring 65 points, more than any other "number 2 driver" of the top teams that year. 2000 was very close as well between McLaren and Ferrari, but I'd give best car title to McLaren by 1 or 2 tenths.

    • @dr.jeremiahheidenreich5102
      @dr.jeremiahheidenreich5102 8 лет назад +16

      C3lloman
The 2000, Ferrari was (technically speaking) ON A PAR with Mclaren only as of the Italian Grand Prix of Monza, so that one cannot assume a specific McLaren advantage of "1 or 2 tenth" over the course of the entire season.
A clear turning point was the Italian Grand Prix, though, AFTER THE`FIA banned McLaren's illegal ("self-steering") rear differential which gave a clear handling advantage to the McLaren up to that point...And that advantage did manifest itself decisively over the course of a 300 km race, rather than over the course of a short qualifying stint.
In 2003, a MICHELIN-shod car should have won the title, on account of the superior performance of the Michelin tires, compared to that of the Bridgestones. The fact that Rubens Barrichello finished 4th in the overall drivers standings in 2003 has more to do with his driving skills---when compared to those of Coulthard and R. Schumacher---than with the condition of the overall performance of the Ferrari/Bridgestone technical package...

Sadly, I never got to see Schumacher race on tv, but my dad would and still always says:
When it was raining, schumi was fierce, he had a control over his car no driver even comes close to. He was still accelerating while other drivers where flooring the brakes, and then he’d go ahead and take the corner so close to loosing grip that it looked like he was sliding. One of the most prestigious and mesmerising things a racing fan can see.
He first pointed this out when I said that it was unreal how verstappen was driving in the rain during 2016, so many memories came back to him he started to tear up.

I would say, that its not necessary when taking one corner at the "edge" and feeling that if going faster the car will not turn because of less grip, or worse spin out of control . Its more about taking every corner and know, feel that the flow is there and position the 4 tyres absolute perfect every inch of the racetrack and most of all carrying the speed without brake to much/or less.

It's way worse than just skidding or the rear shifting ever so slightly. To be on "the edge", that fatal .5 kph between grip and skid, to press that harder, to have the guts to not ease on the gas, where the only choice is to go and be faster. 2 corners away you already know the traffic condition you already know who's going to do what, and what speed you're going to need to pass that next person. Ease off the gas and you miss your trajectory by a huge margin. You press to hard, you slide like a yoyo.

In the future they will run on electric rails..upside-down etc ;)
Agreed, there will always be people talking about the "good old days" and that the F-1 drivers yesterday was better /man-sport /pure racing and real cars. Then some good things know:
1980s = cool, turbo yes. But the fastest era and cars was 2004...
1950 = cool, dangerous yes. But drivers were smoking cigars. just a game for playboys with toys and compared to a modern car they raced with tractors.
1990 = was acctually one of the most inconstant and ever-changing decade in the history of F1.
Lots of new rules, changed rules, and circuits altered. All this things added up could claim that racing in the -90s was a really hard period because everyone had to adapt, no one could stick to their "gameplan".
      1) The general quality of the drivers are increasing every minute.
Thats pure logic. Compared to the 80s , or way back before the 70s. Today there are LOTS of more people born on this planet. And more of them have opportunity to start with racing and karting in their childhood.
And as follows, they face harder competition even before their 10th birthday. The natural selection world-wide when so many millions of talents have the capacity to reach F-1 its only the real best (and rich) thats on the grid today.
      Fangio wouldnt last minute ;)
      2) 1988 there was sixteen (16) races a calendar-year.
Today its nineteen (19) . So the seasons are longer, average laps/race are more etc.

Every F1 decade (1980s, 1990s and 2000s) had great cars. The cars become looking stupid since 2009
WTF is that big front wing and small rear wing and no aerodynamic wings (which especially were seen in 2007 and 2008)
Hope 2017 cars will start a new aera...

+Spoo Ky wrong. people will stop watching it all together. Even the youngest generations aren't impressed by current F1 and when they see this, they're in awe.

The best looking cars were from 1998 to 2004, some cars in 2005 and 2006 were ok then 2007 and 2008 were average but 2009+ forget about it lol.

Then why the hell is F1 still being followed and crowded? Many whine and complain about it and they still watch so what the hell?!?! I for one agree and it is why I dropped F1 since 2009 and WEC and BES all the way :)

What he's saying about feeling the car on the edge. That's how it is.. When you've driven race cars for a while they become an extension of yourself. Much like someone playing other sports feel with the instruments they're using. If anything is out of place you feel it instantaneously and react to it. Schumacher is just better than most at it.

Michael is the craftsman and his car is his fine tool.
And he knows how he has to handle his tool.
    That is all, very simple.
Do not forget, he was winning many Gran Prix in a Benetton-Ford combination, round abound 80 horsepower less then the other.
And he was champion at the end with this shitty combination.
Today the F 1 is boring, very boring.
This business needs a new Michael.

For me watching him drive lesser cars and beating the competition is what stood out and made f1 exiting. I think only 2004 was a bit boring because he had the best car.But the way he could dance a car around a track was just awesome to watch. I think frank williamz said any one who doesnt get ecited watching Michael on a qualyfying lap isnt human.

Well, in that case, we may not see this for some time. Seems that some of the folks at the Beeb don't like Jeremy very much. So, it will likely be made available for purchase in several years... with some classic F1 material.

Ok. Here some info about the video:
Speed is a BBC television series about the history of fast vehicles, including aeroplanes, boats and cars. The show is presented by Jeremy Clarkson and consists of six episodes. Each focuses on a different aspect of speed. The series was first shown in the UK on BBC One in 2001, and was subsequently shown to an international audience on BBC World and in Australia on the HOW TO Channel. Jeremy Clarkson's Speed, a video containing an hour of highlights from the series was also released in 2001. The video was released on DVD, as part of The Jeremy Clarkson Collection in 2007

Most of F1 drivers have the same feel I think as most of them are born and breed pretty early on, but I think Schumacher had a lot of input/output to/from the engineers so the F1 he drove was always suited for him. Not taking anything away from him and his skills just saying he's output got listened to by the engineers and their input got listened to by Schumacher and that combination is just awesome.

Before the V10 era formula 1 is much like go-kart, not much mechanical assistance like today, I think the V10 era was the last time F1 really was about "pure" driver skills compare to today's mechanical contribution etc. nowadays you put anyone reasonable in Mercedes they'll pretty much guarantee a podium.
