    I loved these types of information programmes in the 80s - they had a certain style that informs, without being distracting and annoying.

    This style of documentary is really enjoyable. It's not just about showing flashy images of "cool" racecars, but rather a factual representation of the basic principles involved in high performance / race driving. Much like a training film really. And everything wonderfully narrated by the man himself, Niki Lauda.

      Hell, this is a great video nowadays too. Sure the cars are way different, but there is just a basic, strip down message here. Its explained in a way that anyone could understand. And you obviously have the best doing it.

    James Hunt was a movie star, Niki Lauda was the most skilled, courageous, intelligent and taking no crap from anyone - race driver. His way of pinpointing the truth with laser precision in tv commentaries is legendary. Niki is my hero.

    I got to Photograph F1 in Detroit & Montreal in 82, 83, & 84, and met Niki Lauda once, it was so hard walking through the pits for the first time and not be in awe 🤨 F1 in the 80's was a golden time, my cherished photos are of Lauda, Prost, Piquet, and a young upstart name Senna at the Canadian GP in 84 😎

    Great video although there were turbo charged engines in the 1977 season provided by Renault. It is also worth remembering that there were supercharged cars back in the 1960's which used a separate gear to power the supercharger which served a similar function to the turbo but at a 20% loss of power. The turbo did not incur that penalty and was why it became of interest to manufacturers who could have their cake and eat it.

    • @polentusmax6100
      @polentusmax6100 Год назад +1

      Turbo have less losses, but i think they were wrong because a supercharger would made a f1 much more predictable than turbos with its turbo lag. And even mansell said those f1 turbo would burn rubber in 4th gear.

    Not entirely sure about this one, but Lauda talks about 'next year, then I have more experience with the task'. Was this filmed in 85 really? It somehow feels like older quotes. Were there talks where he would be on the grid in 86?
