@29:30 Adrian Newey said later of being fired from Leyton House that he had decided to go anyway because the team was run by accountants. Rarely can you make your mind up about a dispute upon hearing only one side of the story, but I think it's fair to say Newey has been proven to know what he is doing.
Such a shame Capelli couldn't win this race. His oil light lit up with 3 laps to go & he had to back off to allow Prost through, otherwise the engine would have blown up completely. He barely rolled the car over the finish line at the end
@@joaom2057 yeah also true. He had no idea if Prost was attempting to overtake him on the end of the main straight where overtakes mostly occurred. He was just having to brake as late as he could & hoping Prost wasn't sending it up the inside. It's a real shame Capelli's ride in 1992 with Ferrari broke his spirit. He was a talented driver
About March's (or Leyton House, in the 1990 year book it was still called March) strong showing here and later at Silverstone: they had modified the floor of the car and the modification was a perfect fit for the tracks in France and silverstone. Plus BP, their fuel supplier, had managed to create a new fuel that breathed new life into the V8 Judd engines of the team. Also little side note: at the prior race both March failed to qualify for the race. Just goes to show how tracks can affect cars as we have seen this year as well
Man i miss hobbs and varsha. They were 2 peas in a pod lol. Ive met them both a couple times at road america. Everytime they were both hanging out as friends together on their day off lol. 2 of the nicest guys too. Got hobbo to say clag for me 😂
Yes. ESPN should have hired the magnificent trio of Varsha, Hobbs, and Matchett from NBCSN. NBC hired them from SPEED (Fox sports). ESPN really dropped the ball when they bought the rights to F1 from NBC. I actually wish NBC would have never bought them from Fox to be honest. At least Fox would send them to the races sometimes, and Windsor was always there. I miss the good old daya.😢
And, oh yeah..... met all 4 of them at Indy, every year from 2002-2008 when you could actually afford to go to a F1 race in the US. I payed $250 for a weekend long grandstand seat at Indy, for every USGP at Indy, except for 06. That one was substantially less after the bs that happened in 05. Now, a Thursday night practice session ticket for the race at Vegas was $350. FOR PRACTICE!!!!!! General admission too! Oh... want to watch the race? That will be $600. Oh yeah, and there's really NOWHERE for you to actually see the track with your GA ticket. So you can watch it on our big spherical TV thing. Anyways.... Varsha, Hobbs, Maychett, and Windsor stayed at the same hotel I stayed at. Had a conversation with Hobbs about clag, and got him to take a picture with me, and my son who drew a big poster with a F1 car, bellowing smoke, with "KABLAMMO" across the top. Hobbs, and Matchett kept my sons attention for like 15 mins with toy F1 cars. When you say they are great guys, you aren't lying. Who else would play with a strangers kids for that long, making racecar sounds and everything.😂 That is probably one of my favorite memories from when my son was young.
Capelli made a great race but so sad to see what Sandro Nannini was able to do in 1990 few months before his helicopter's accident !! Fucking 12 october !
current cars are only 13% heavier at the start of the race compared to the end. In this race the cars were 30% heaver at the start of the race with full fuel.
Prost and Fangio from other planet Senna faster, i think he could be Much better in rally races than f1 Senna only Speed and times Prost always beat senna In a normal year, 1988 belong to prost and not senna Check all races in 1988 Son prost won 5 title
1990 was F1 at its very peak. Good times.
'70, '80 1990 indeed a peak. After i slowly lost interest. Today, only a quick review will do...
Such a great watch! I remember waking up early on a Sunday morning as kid then watching these F1 races with my dad on ESPN!
These were fun days to watch Formula One. You never knew what was going to happen. I miss those days a lot.
Thanks for the upload- the pits back then were just manic! So fun to see how different things are in my Gen X lifetime
Love Bob V.
Hey....... this was part of your Gen-X lifetime, dude. I'm damn near a millennial, and I grew up watching this lovely stuff.

Not only that. He lost a mirror to. Became very difficult to defend his position...

I miss this era so much
The ESPN commentator is fantastic: very knowledgeable and does not obviously believe that god is an Englishman.
Bob Varsha was awesome and was the American voice of F1 for years.
Nice for a change eh. Lol.
Varsha!! Great commentary for F1 and IMSA as I remember it. Never missed a beat
He did say Martin Donnelly was though which is a declaration of war (he is from Northern Ireland)
Varsha. One of our best!!

Brilliant. Thanks for uploading this.

Bring back the V-10's my ass. 8>10>12 mix better.. What a beautiful upload, Mercer.
This 1990 track layout is so much more fun to watch than the current iteration.
Yes i absolutely agree with you!
カペリとプロストのバトル凄かったですね。フジテレビの総集編のナレーション「そうか、レイトンハウスはタイヤを交換しないのか。パズルを解いたプロスト、カペリに猛チャージ!」だったかな🤔
