One of my favorite bands of all time! My cousin used to like this band may he R.I.P In loving memory of my cousin Tony. He got caught in a love triangle and got killed! This month is his death anniversary love you cuz, this one s for you!
The year this album released I lost my Mom at 38 years old. She got sick with ovarian cancer. She was buried by December. I had just turned 18 in November. These songs kept my heart tuned up ro take the loss, and comforted me in the grieving. I was in Virginia Beach at the time. I ran the roads non stop in my 81 Honda Prelude. It's been 37 years now.
1989 17 years old. driving the garden state parkway to visit the girl I was dating in north jersey. Butterflies in my heart the entire way with this song bottling the feeling for the rest of my life. The melody entering my mind today like an echo from the past.
I played this for my grown adult children, on my Birthday, and they loved it, as I danced and sang along, so much fun, love this song, I just turned 67, and proud of it! I can still rock! Love Rockin! PS I am a Great Grandmother to a Sweet soon to be 2 year old little Girl, she already has a Scooter, I call her Little Scooter Chick! She goes with her Father to the Scooter Park, yes they wear Masks, I bought her a real, awesome Mask, she has to wear it , as to protect her lungs!
Someone please congratulate this woman, it's obviously what she wants. Also maybe a little senile..... but at least she has good taste in music. Ride that scooter with your mask on great grandma!
Back in 86 or the whereabouts Marty came to a show of my band in LA. He and his friend approached me after our gig and asked if I wanted to fly to Australia and record the drums for his solo album. My band was on the verge of being signed and didn’t want to leave them hanging as we were playing together since 81 when we were 13 year olds. I think Marty liked one of our songs and probably hummed it over and over. This song here was faster at the time he saw us and we slowed it down for the recording. The guitar hook in the chorus is the same as Reptile just different timing and probably a different key. A guitarist will know what I’m talking about. Believe it or not I believe we had an influence on him that night. Our singer played a couple of solo shows with Marty in Los Angeles and Marty did have a copy of our record therefor having Kevin open up for him. Hope you guys like it and listen to full record when you can. The Church are one of my all time favorites, saw them a few times back then. ruclips.net/video/evGuJ3_LL6s/видео.html
Marty Wilson Piper is an incredible guy. Meeting in person last year was one of the happiest days of that year. He signed all The Church records I had. He's my neighbour now and my friend. He will create a spot here in Porto where ppl can listen to thousands of records and read hundreds of music magazines. I am happy to have donated some...
@@OlhOrebOque sounds like a great guy! Ask him if he still needs a drummer cause I’m available 😂 Believe me when I say I wish I could of recorded on his solo 80’s stuff it would of been amazing. Also, if and when you see him again tell him Damien from Sixtieth Parallel says “hi” and next time he is in Southern California to look me up thanks!
This is one of my top twenty favorite songs ever! If you listen to it, with the sound wide open, the sound of every instrument voice included is mesmerizing! Beautiful tune!
Saw them open up for Echo and the Bunnymen in the late 80s in Boston. They played this song and the way the guitars echoed through the auditorium sent shivers down my spine. I still crush on Marty, and on Steve's voice.
That lead singer is a doll here. I can't stop looking at him. I just happened on thus. Now, I'm a fan of this band. I wish we all could stay young forever. I guess that's in Heaven, though. Not here.
Back in the day I think I was one of the last kids to get 11 albums on cassettes for 1 penny out of a magazine ad.. This was one of those albums. Good times!
One of the most underrated bands. Been a fan since I was a kid in 1983/4, just started high school. My high school boyfriend and I went and saw them twice in San Francisco, 1987 and 1989. I still think of him when I hear Steven Kilbey.
Just heard this song for the first time ever! Wow, trade me 2019 for 1988. God please Take Cardi B and all the commercial no talent modern day singers and bring back true artist!!
I never thought that when I listened to them back in the eighties that I’d end up doing the artwork for the Kilbey Kennedy album Jupiter 13...funny how life is .
Finally got to see The Church live about a month ago. I think Kilbey's the only original member left, but it was still a great show. This one brought the house down.
A few years out of high school, some 'band mates' and I tried to cover this song... Decades ago. NO way could we begin to come close to its magic. That said, the synergy that sometimes happens when great writing, good playing, and appropriate mixing comes together, we get the reward - for a lifetime of great associated memories. Long live the 80s!
Right you are... But, here is to remaining optimistic! ; ) I was lucky enough to see The Church again this year, at The NORVA, in Norfolk, VA in April 2023. It was so worth going to see them again... Their set list was a blend of their latest album, The Hypnogogue (2023), (which has had some very strong reviews) and is very good. The sets were laced with the story flowing in this concept album, and of course they played many of their classics. And though, Steve is the only remaining founding member, (Even without the incomparable Marty (2011) and Peter (2022)) The Church are now composed like a supergroup, with also very talented purveyors of sound (Tim Powles/ drums, producer, formal member since the early mid-1990's, Ian Houge from Powder Finger/Band member since 2012, plus Jeffrey Cain from Remey Zero and Ashely Naylor from Paul Kelly's band...) So, great musicians and panache of a legendary, seasoned rock band. Thankfully, they have allowed Steve Kilbey to continue his creative process eccentricities and iconic storytelling presence, which merges into to the excellent musicianship and artistic dynamic that is the evolution of the The Church itself. This equates to a huge, wide and rich catalog (including the new material) of guitar-based music. Thankfully!
The guitar fade out is one of my favourites in all of music. Meaningful, understated playing and a beautifully saturated guitar tone that doesn't announce itself but gets under your skin, like a reptile.
Such a killer song, the video is just about perfect, filmed in the 80’s at the beautiful Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. Somehow everything just fits perfectly

Still an absolute blistering song in 2021. Timeless
It's not just a blistering tune; it's also a blister inducing one, since there are some admiring guitar- & bassplayers out there 😌
...And in 2022. I still have the original CD somewhere.
And 2023
Wow, I've never heard this song before - this is awesome. Got reminded of the milky way song that i loved in the '80's and forgotten about - led me to this band didn't know existed.
I love this song! The guitars, the drums, the tempo, plus the lyrics and voice... all fit perfectly together in this masterpiece of sound and mistery.
They don't make great music like this anymore.
One of my favorite bands of all time! My cousin used to like this band may he R.I.P In loving memory of my cousin Tony. He got caught in a love triangle and got killed! This month is his death anniversary love you cuz, this one s for you!
Thank You for your comment I appreciate it!
Sorry about that bro I lost my cousin to a murder to. memory eternal. music heals
Well said.
Poetic.

Right there with the best of 80s new wave. Reminds me of the cure
The vibe at 4:13 is sublime…It always sends me to another dimension
This song is a true hidden gem. So beautiful. It should be one of the most viewed songs ever!
...just a 50 and still love some really good music...
Another totally underrated band. I never stopped listening to them.

Because people suck
I'm an 80's scrub.
Proud of it.
Melody and counter point, this song is extravagantly beautiful, always has been one of my favorites
James Gilmore., Awesome comment, and Truth 🤜💥🤛
This is my favorite song by The Church.. So dark and eerie .. A classic..
How Steve sings this song is hypnotic.....almost disdain in his looks & glances
This song is unreal..such a unique sound.
yes.....absolute it most beautiful love is beautifu and rare....
its a masterpiece. The feeling it creates.
The guitar riff in this is hypnotizing
Four musicians at the peak of their powers, and every one of them is playing something completely different; yet the song just works! Perfection.
This is an awesome song. I used to listen to this song on vinyl with the lights turned off, laying on my bed, late at night, back in the 80s.
Me too 💓
My dad just picked this vinyl up and we turned the lights out to experience the music
That's actually a really cool variation between the two. I like it
@DM You should have allowed comments on your song! It is a good song and still holds up today!
Glad I was scrolling through the comments. Clicked on your link and already, the beginning of your song is beautiful. Thank you
Marty Wilson Piper is an incredible guy.
Ask him if he still needs a drummer cause I’m available 😂
Believe me when I say I wish I could of recorded on his solo 80’s stuff it would of been amazing. Also, if and when you see him again tell him Damien from Sixtieth Parallel says “hi” and next time he is in Southern California to look me up thanks!
these guitars are beautiful into the stratosphere !
The best bass line ever.
better than rush digiral man?
This is one of my top twenty favorite songs ever! If you listen to it, with the sound wide open, the sound of every instrument voice included is mesmerizing! Beautiful tune!
The two-guitar interplay on here is perfect.
Not here.
This was the album that bonded my wife and I 35 years ago.
One of the greatest riffs in rock.
Love the sound of the Ric! The Strat ain't bad either.
my sister had an f hole bass like that. my fav instrument of the bunch.
Freaking wonderful, the bass sounds amazing too.
This song just might be perfect in every way, it's a brilliant composition
Some of the most genuine tone freaks in the post new wave world
I love this band. The guitar interplay is astonishing.
Beautiful and Eve this is before my time, being it’s a masterpiece.
Rockin my Soul⚡For 35 Years🎰
💯
Hypnotic guitars...awesome!
One of the finest songs Ive ever heard - SONIC and emotional
I introduced this band to my daughter she loved it and now played it on her guitar long live the 80s the alternative rockin 80s❤
Amen to that!
this was only played on College / indie stations . Which are dying today.
Alexis Palacios Just discovered them now at 18-23 pm G.M.T. on the 23/01/20 👍
Why do “everyone” seem to believe that this music or any sort of non-commercial music was popular back then? I mean they were big, but not huge.
Alexis - That would be terrific!!
That opening guitar riff. Flawless victory.
But, here is to remaining optimistic! ; )
I was lucky enough to see The Church again this year, at The NORVA, in Norfolk, VA in April 2023.
Thankfully!
I needed this tonight.. just me and my headphones 🎧
The guitar fade out is one of my favourites in all of music. Meaningful, understated playing and a beautifully saturated guitar tone that doesn't announce itself but gets under your skin, like a reptile.
The most romantic anti-love song you can find out there. Absolutely brilliant piece of music.
Such a killer song, the video is just about perfect, filmed in the 80’s at the beautiful Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. Somehow everything just fits perfectly
The Church freaking rocks!! I remember buying this cd at Hastings in the 90’s!!!
