Same Here! However, that’s not saying much being I was introduced to The Church as well as The Smiths and Decembrists - in 2005 by a coworkerr who had no way not to know I was obsessed with Robyn Hitchcock) r
i’m not sure if it’s cuz there’s Such Similarities and overlap between Hitchcock and Kilby’s voices, styles and sensibility or perhaps because I became obsessed with Smiths/Morrissey as well as The Decemberists I was referred to within the same col weeks,
But I never went any further then to have Milky Way and Reptile as staples of my music library.
That was until last night when strange past came thru my feed so randomly and I saw ppl saying whah you did I thankfully clicked
Then I was just enraptured by their 4 song WKRX Seattle performance off this album. I actually like that version better than this.

I’ve loved this band since the late 80’s. I can’t believe they are still churning out such beautiful music as this. I’m a huge fan and this has already made it to being one of my absolute favorites by them.

This really sounds fantastic. It sounds like a brand new band who’s been on the road and now can record from a greater deeper perspective. Kilbey sounds better than ever.
I am so glad that I did not like any of these songs when I first heard them. When I like it up front right away I usually throw the music away quickly. How can I say this is one of the BEST Church records when they are all superior? Well, this is now a top 5 of all time. Each song, riff, mood, tone digs into your soul. Not a waste of a second. Best playing since the two, you know who, left. I love the companion piece record as it grows on me.
Steve... one day you will be recognized as the song writer you are... up there with Dylan, Bowie and Lennon/McCarthy. You might not have achieved the fame (or I know - the $$$$$) but you have the equal amount of TALENT. Thank you for all of the wonderful life affirming music.

This may be the most beautiful song by The Church I've heard, and that's saying a lot since I've been a fan since 1985. Looking forward to hearing it when I see them Saturday in Chandler, Arizona.

From the mailing list - Now, the story of “The Hypnogogue” extends with a newly-released deluxe edition. With six added tracks, the deluxe package includes the recently released single and video “Realm of Minor Angels” which bassist/vocalist/founder Steve Kilbey cites as “without doubt one of my favorite singles The Church has ever released.”
The 'Eros Zeta and The Perfumed Guitars' CD will be released worldwide on 29 March 2024. It looks like it contains the 6 tracks that were added to The Hypnogogue (deluxe) plus another 9 tracks

The video for this is exceptionally well done. The multi layered effects, tv screens, amazing Asian woman and costume. Lighting effects, etc. One of the best Church videos ever. Hats off to all involved.

Yes, but did you expect anything less? These guys are amazing. How many years into the career? How many iterations hit the band the band is not just Steve. Steve is the nucleus, but he always has the most amazing electrons playing around him. They are amazing, the church forever.

Hmm, I was hoping for more. This really does sound like a Steve Kilbey solo record. I may still see them this fall, but am not excited by what I'm hearing.
Take the plunge and go to the concert. I caught it twice earlier this year (in Australia); this latest line up breathes new life into the older Church material. Concert featured many deep cuts into the back catalogue as well as the new album.

I agree...trying to like it but it's not going too far. I like the layering and the style though. I wish they would release more songs from the upcoming album so I can make a better decision.
