I am now 51. I have loved The Church since 1984, when I first heard their song on San Francisco's alt radio station. I went back to their earlier albums, spent my 1980s adolescence impressed and besotted with their music. At 17, I was inspired by their lyrics. My twin sister was playing them on her alt radio college radio show at sixteen. I saw them live in California when I was 18, and I spent decades still in love with their music. Fast forward to 2022, my 51-year-old twin and her boyfriend (another alt radio dj way back when) ran into Steve on a coastal walk near Sydney. Kismet! The love for this music and celebration of Steve's music continues!

For over 40 years we have been constantly spoilt with classic LP after LP and song after song from this absolutely stunning band. Amazing.. Recently bought the MOV Gold Afternoon Fix Marble LP & I still love that LP to this day. Plus of course the debut, Heyday, Starfish, Priest = Aura.... It goes on and on. Awesome :)

Fantastic, on all levels! One of the best videos The Church has ever done, very pro job. The guitars are bold and work really well together, and memorable lines too with a cool main riff, the Ebowed parts, etc. Tim's vocal is a nice touch, and Steve's vocal and lyrics are right on.
I discovered The Church on a Spanish Variety show when I lived in Zaragoza, Spain back 1988. They just came on and played Under The Milky Way and I was drawn in and hooked from that moment. Coming back to the US after 2 years in Spain, I heard them all over the radio with their Starfish album and came to discover both my brothers had latched on as well. Their music never grows old. I really enjoy this effort and am glad they are still producing beautiful music.
I am so glad that I did not like any of these songs when I first heard them. When I like it up front right away I usually throw the music away quickly. How can I say this is one of the BEST Church records when they are all superior? Well, this is now a top 5 of all time. Each song, riff, mood, tone digs into your soul. Not a waste of a second. Best playing since the two, you know who, left. I love the companion piece record as it grows on me. Steve... one day you will be recognized as the song writer you are... up there with Dylan, Bowie and Lennon/McCarthy. You might not have achieved the fame (or I know - the $$$$$) but you have the equal amount of TALENT. Thank you for all of the wonderful life affirming music.
Coming back to this song, it seems even more relevant now. I listened to this song and watched the video to go with the song a year ago. I was just happy that The Church was moving forward and making new music and enjoyed the song and video for what my first impression was. There was alot of mystery trying to figure out what this mini-movie was hinting at. Then came 2 songs that seemed like unrelated pieces of a puzzle...until I got the album and found that Hypnogoue is a concept album and somehow this whole album tells a story. Incredibly ambitous and very good. Then about 9 months later I witness The Church concert live and Steve Kilbey tells the story of a down on his luck, drug-addled post-pop star that lives in Antarctica in the year 2054 that is intending to ungo a think-tank mind-altering process to help him write more songs. Sound like an amazing idea...or is it? Or did Steve Kilbey actually already undergo this process and write not only The Hypnogogue, but also wrote the book Eros Zeta & the Hypnogoue and another 15 track soundtrack album to go with the book! When listened to and absorbed as a whole with the 2 albums & the book it is not only THE most ambitous work that The Church have ever done, but with the new configuration of the band it is now obvious to me that this recent chapter in the band's history is up there with their best.
