Rest in peace Geordie. One of the most influential yet underrated guitarists ever
And he had the BEST dry sense of humor! Funny as hell…Damnit. The world lost an amazing guy. I’m heartbroken 💔
I can't believe I never heard of Geordie or Killing Joke until he passed away (grew up in the 70's & 80's). Now bands like Metallica (Or Kirk's guitar style), and songs like Nirvana's "Come As You Are" make so much sense to me.
I feel like I have been so sheltered my entire life! 😂
Who said he was underrated?
Cannot believe so many notes and tones came out of one guitar. It was just a swarm over your head and in your brain. Farewell sir
WHAT HE DIED ?? I JUST LEARNED BOUT THIS BAND THIS YEAR🥲
One day, I had the choice between buying a new Killing Joke album, or affording lunch. That day, I was hungry but my ears were satisfied.
So you ate the album?
Humain are humain🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉ni big Mac ......dj got ya
@@Alwayscommentseveryday He put the lunch inside his ears
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. "Love like blood" is definitely one of them.
I'm with there buddy..painfully nostalgic
Exactly my feeling. I think there's a Welsh word - hiraeth - that is sharper and more sadly longing than the English "nostalgia". It's a heartfelt yearning for a fondly remembered past that cuts deep and is indeed bittersweet.
Poppies by Teardrop Explodes or Public Image have the same effect on me. They put me in an exact time and place where the world was full of possibilities and i was bursting with raw energy 😁
That's the word I needed in my life, as I get this feeling more and more often lately
They don’t make them like this anymore, so they?
This song seemed to always set one up for the more serious matter played at the tail end of the evening out.
RIP the two members of Killing Joke
Geordie Walker (December 18, 1958 - November 26, 2023), aged 64
Paul Raven (January 16, 1961 - October 20, 2007), aged 46
You both will be remembered as legends.
I was there the very first time Paul picked up a bass. True story..
Good comment!👍
I remember seeing the gang back in the early eighties, in Hammersmith. Couldn't hear a thing properly for at least a couple of days! Great memories, thanks lads!!! ❤
Ok 🙏

Time flies, rest in peace forever ❤
Rest in peace Mr. Walker. Guitar tone like angels at war. I shall always miss your guitar work. One of my favorites.
Angels at war. That's an excellent description. Fair play to you, sir.
Absolutely agree.
I drank deep of the 80s, don’t regret one moment, I was so lucky to be young back then. The music says it all. Unprecedented.
"Strength and beauty, destined to decay"
Absolutely haunting. A masterpiece.
@ronniedoorzon1576 And we all lived happily ever after.
"So cut the rose in full bloom" is classical wisdom (carpe diem). "Promised lands and fields that never fade in season", see Arthur Rimbaud's "A Season in Hell": why regret the everlasting sun, if we are sworn to a search for divine brightness - far from those who die as seasons turn.
Divine brightness being "brighter than a thousand suns", I'm pretty sure Jaz Coleman would concur!
_"Strength and beauty, destined to decay"_
As do all the works and dreams of man.
@@NotSoMuchFrankly Some works (of art notably) endure, and some dreams come true, though. But all of this is fleeting in the end, so I concur with your comment overall.
“Cut the rose in full bloom”. Rest in grace Geordie
I was 11 in 1985. This song gave that year a special place in my heart. The first time i heard this song, the first sounds (intro) i immediately fell in love with it.
RIP Geordie Walker.
2023 and this is still a masterpiece
Absolutely this is a fantastic and timeless song you have awesome taste in music
I am diving for work in my car, and this song is a sound track was 13 when this song was arrived
Dang u guys had good music great track
Took me 2 hours on internet to find this song. Couldn't remember the name. Also Shape & Numan- change ur mind is a great number of 1985
Heard this today at work and remembered who it was immediately! Not heard it since 80s! Fab to find it again! ❤
RIP Geordie Walker of Killing Joke. Left us suddenly and way too soon at 64. The owner of a decimating sound like no other guitar player on Earth.
DAMN RIGHT
This song was my introduction to Killing Joke back in 85. The guitar work hooked me in and never let go. I went out and immediately bought the record. Still my favorite Killing Joke release. RIP Geordie.
Those opening notes will always stick with me. Gonna miss you Mr. Walker.
Lyrics, guitar, drums, bass line... Everything in this song is perfect !!! From the 1st second till the last, a masterpiece of the 80's 🙏
The synths in the intro give me shivers every time.
The thundering bass and drums riff too, it's like seeing a column of tanks advancing down your street... or fighter jets in the sky above. Brilliant song!
Every fucking time
@@louise_rose The Guitar Riff is the best thing, the first thing you hear and the best, the Riff is from another World.
@@jyejye1077 The song completely captures the Zeitgeist of the later Cold War, the fear of a nucle*r Armageddon and the feeling of having been sent in as players into a drama we had never been part of writing or asked to be in. I remember those days and the song is indeed a time-capsule.
"Heartshine" by Mother Love Bone (recorded in 1989), with a similar thundering riff and pounding drums, does something similar - also a brilliant song and to me that one is also about a generation, not just one guy's anguish. Now we are almost there once again.
Every instrument used in this track is brilliant and striking. They all add their individual touch to it.
The bass line absolutely makes this song. RIP Paul Raven.
Rest in peace, Geordie 😢...amazing guitarist, amazing talent... you will be missed. 😢❤
Had the luck to see them 3 times, original formation. No other band will ever mix metal, raw punk and dark wave at the same time and sound PERFECT and HOMOGENEOUS.
One of the most brilliant bands England has produced. Pure genius. RIP Geordie. We all loved you bro.
I just discovered this song...how have I been alive 38 years and never heard this!

The odd thing about the 80's is that they feel more futuristic than the future we actually ended up getting in the 2020's.
It's sad, in a way.
This is the best thing I've ever read about the 80s
For someone who grew up listening to the music of the '60s this would've been incredibly futuristic and almost completely alien.
The musicians at the time would've known they were breaking new ground with the technology available to them, especially with synths and new production techniques. The newly-available tech influenced and inspired how the songs were written and recorded. Plus of course the rock and punk music of the '70s that the members of bands like Killing Joke would've grown up listening to. The Fixx is another band that springs to mind.
It's a snapshot in time that can't be replicated again.
Which isn't to say we can't still record new music like this. But it's arguably more difficult now because the same inspirations aren't there.
brilliant
the modern daY MUSIC IS CRAP.
I agree, i was born in 97 and always preferred listening to music from the 80's and 90's, and some early 2000's rock too. I absolutely can't stand Rap in any form, and i want to shoot myself whenever i walk into a bar and some shitty mumble rap is playing on the radio. And to be honest with you, most modern music these days is all Rap.
R.I.P Geordie, magnificent guitar hero, unique sound.
Kevin "Geordie" Walker died yesterday. Gutted. Rest in peace, brother.
2022 & this tune is still an absolute masterpiece all these years later. Quality music never goes out of fashion
Hi I recommend A New 80's style indie rock Song Called 'Looking into the Mirror' By Robert Nix
Finding this now and this song is sick. They rock it and break all the expected norms throughout. They don't follow a pattern unless it is their own! Hahahaha. Awesome.
Better music then, most music nog sucks
Brilliant song, wonderfully played, sung and performed - a true generational anthem of those days and a classic now. It's right up there with the greatest songs of Joy Division or early (pre-arena rock) Simple Minds.
Here is my club from the 80's where we played this same music and danced like crazy: ruclips.net/video/bh-lvwryJng/видео.html
Paul Ferguson is got to be one of the most overlooked great rock and roll drummers ever
Absolutely such an amazing drummer who never got his due
Incredible - How on earth did He do that!?!
When you live in a world with John Bonham, Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland and Scott Rockenfield you're going to be overlooked.
As a drummer, I hated him LOL
The way he plays looks like just another normal day for him.. Incredible..!
I just discovered this song now, because I was reading my mother's old letters to a close friend of her. In 1992 he wrote an entire page to her about how much this song was important for him.
And now I'm here, 28 years later, listening to the same exact song that he used to listen to.
And this feels magical.
[Update : idk if anyone cares but I'm currently trying to find and contact her friend, because we have a lot to talk about, wish me luck ! ]
That's because it is.
Whoa that's crazy and beautiful to read. Killing Joke has had a lot of great material of 40 years, very diverse but bluntly put...a sort of punk period but with synth and some good writing, then came this era which was very underrated by fans at the time...Night Time (1985) and Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (1986) may be to your taste; especially the former since Love Like Blood is on it. From there it got more progy and then they got heavier, a bit industrial, not full on metal to my metal attuned ears but that's what music journalists will say : ) ha. Democracy (1996) is also great, took awhile to click. But for anyone reading Night Time is really work it start to finish, it was the bridge between the first big style jump.
Glad I finally got into them in the past few years after numerous encounters; I had become so focused on singles and then life turned more introspective. A lot of people only like one or two albums because they can be so different in terms of face value aesthetic i.e. "rebellious uk punk" "new wave" "industrial" "shoegaze" all styles a good band can perform as can a skilled theater actor; playing a variety of roles with a pathos that is still their own.
P.S. I sometimes read my uncle's old diaries and it is an amazing connection to have their voice in your head again. Be well friend.
I love this post. I feel that magic as I'm writing this. Thanks for sharing.

It's one of the best crafted songs of all time and one of the best audio experiences of the 80's.
I thank the Universe for me being born in 1961.
When Killing Joke played at The Glider Room, Dee Why Hotel in the mid- 80's the sound engineer had everything tirned up to eleven, probably louder.
The Bass was causing much discomfort to the people in the packed room.
Big tough, tattooed guys were leaving the venue because the excruciating volume was intolerable.
My existence was like a Clash song " Should I Stay or Should I go.
I stayed, because I didn't want to miss my only chance to see this band LIVE.
Looking around the room to see the crowd singing along with passion to EIGHTIES, was worth the price of admission.
Great band!!!!!
Yep. It was great being in the NY metro area at the time. Cool clubs such as Kriptons and Backstage but good systems were hit and miss with other clubs.
As Lemmy famously said: "If its too loud, you're too old!". Roughly same age as you, grew up with this band in the UK, Thatchers Britain and all that, Killing Joke distilled and encapsulated the feeling of the time. Hear this, or "Eighties" and I'm transported back instantly. What a tune. What a band. What days to be alive.

Lucky you. I have to make do with the video's. KJ was so underrated. Timeless.
Well we know this was a masterpiece when I herd it at the time ...give you goose bumps ...well the whole Brighter than a 1000s suns album including the cover.
I was a teen and never heard of them and was just getting in post punk /punk.
But the big airy (space), hollow sound was not originally theirs....they got that from The Chameleons. But the big sound with the muscular guitar riff became their finger print.
RIP Mr. Walker. Many thanks to Killing Joke for this unique song. Without punk/post punk, the 80s, which were full of incredible music, would have been unthinkable.

I found this song recently and it amazes me how dramatic it is. Can’t believe I didn’t know it. Can’t stop listening!
One of the most distinctive intros ever made. This is one of those songs that seems to mean far more to me than it should, and I've never adequately been able to explain how it makes me feel. It's like time travel, but not just to the eighties... it's all those things from my youth that have been lost now and will never come back. It's friends and family who are no longer with us, it's failed relationships, it's missed opportunities. All of those things are lurking in those guitar notes and wailing organ chords, waiting to ambush me when I listen. Why? Why? No answer. I have no answer.
