Thank you so much for this video. This has been a huge issue with my drift trike hooking up the battery and lights. Now I know!
was planning on wiring my bike this weekend and still had some questions and this answered all of them. Great video, perfect timing
This whole instructional is awesome but the cvt drilled to hold the crank is brilliant
Knowing is half the battle. Was always my favorite.
That intro man. Wow that was great!!! Good job guys.
Thanks for the tip on the torque wrench 👍🏾👍🏾
Me Going Fast channel did a similar video showing all the wiring needed to the lights, this video answered questions about the Tillotson 👍👍. Looks like the flywheel is no different than that video.
Thanks for share your knowledge with us, man. A new like added. New channel inscription added too. Your channel is a must to learn “how to do”.
Thanks this is exactly what i was looking for, Great Video
Ive watched @ Red Beard's Garage videos before but I never knew the intro was a banger like that!!!
Great Video. I’m finishing my sawmill and needed the motor to charge the battery. I’ll put a card in my video to your’s… thanks.
Hope This video gets million views 🙏
Like other Small engine builds!
Dammit red beard your good all this knowledge I need for my project and more thanks buddy I’m putting a Honda 13hp on my golf cart taking my time with your knowledge thanks again
Thank you for the video RBG and god bless
I truly appreciate u red beard!
I don’t do hot rod but enjoy watching youll
This is the video I've been waiting for!
Well just from watching your vids I was able to rewire my zero turn. Lol thanks brother
Excellent video.
Great video!!! Thank you!
Thx for this video.
Thx I know know what to do, appreciate your help
thanks for this vid Red !!!!!my guy
Nice video man I was just watching the electric start wiring video and I'm stoked to watch this one.
I never knew that about the torque wrench thank you
Thank you my friend! This is exactly what I needed to see. Based on this, at 3amps I can charge a small battery. Any info from Tillotson what the minimum CCA should be for this type of motor?
I like to use lawn mower batteries on mine but you can use a mid sized atv battery around a size 8 or 10 will work great
The regulator is actually a rectifier/regulator since it’s purpose is to convert AC input to DC output.
Very helpful
ive caught that govonor spring almost broke my leg trying to hold the cart back while i pulled the plug wire off to kill it because i didnt have a kill wire hooked up yet. im finally getting around to doing this for my world record charity ride this summer testing has been flawless. however i only go about 800 yards round trip and the battery has an onboard charger so when its parked at home its constantly on a trickle charger. i suck at wiring so thank you for explaining it to where even i can understand it
Great vid
Great video!! It was very well done. Very informative. :-)
Got to love these engines just so many upgrades you can do just got my first tilly I love it
@Knight Recon late reply, but I just installed one of the electric start kits and I most certainly would not remove the governor using the replacement flywheel the kits come with. It's awful
Not regulator, rectifier. Rectifier changes ac voltages to dc voltage. I’m not sure ,it may have a regulator too, but without the rectifier it would not make dc voltage. Love your stuff and appreciate your knowledge. Have learned much, thanks.
it is a rectifier and regulator
Glad you're going to post that next. There's quite a few states the want to remove their Governor.Ba=duh=bump...
Great instructional video, Thank You very much RB
Hey man thank you for this very informational video, i had a question, is there any other way to tighten the fly wheel to spec if you dont have a tie down tool or in this case a old 30 series cvt pulley to tie down.
What size battery would you recommend for this setup?
I have a 16hp and it has a single coil , on a log splitter , and I need more charging , so I've bought the dual coils not hooked up yet , so with one stock coil there is no rectifier but two coils I will need one . Cheers .
Nice video buddy! You got me thinking: if i got a TILLY 212 electric start, and opted off a battery all together... dont you think that one coil that comes stock would power a 7 inch LED light bar at 12V and 1.5A when running? I bet it would, and i really dont mind pull starting. Thanks again for the ideas.
Whenever you see a rapid pulsing of the headlight it is because they are being run directly off the charging coil on AC current. Once you install the rectifier/regulator, the pulsing should quit, since they are now being fed "clean" DC current and also seeing a constant voltage from the battery. While they may get slightly brighter from the slight voltage increase when revved from idle to RPM , they should not have the "strobe" effect that the un-filtered charge coil current provided.
So I don't have a battery does that mean I can just hook the rectifier straight to my headlight for strictly lighting purposes
And I have the predator 224 do I need to get a special flywheel to work with the coils?
@@motododo4626 Yes, you will need a new flywheel. When I upgraded from a HiSun 196 to the 224 I just swapped the flywheel over and it works great. If you don't have a flywheel to steal from another engine, monsterscooterparts has a 3-magnet flywheel for $27.49 that looks like it'll work.
@@kentsugden6865 sweet I actually have a 196 off my coleman ct200u ex. I'll jack its flywheel and coil hahaha
Will you share any information on then larger 6 pole coil charger system you build previously?
very interesting..
Cool!
Is there no seperate charge controller to not overcharge the battery? Great instructional video 👍
What should the Battery voltage read once the Regulator / Rectifier is installed and the engine is idling?
Hey I have a question, in the full suspension ct200 video where did you get that gas tank or what model Harley Davidson did it come from because every single gas tank that was on the engine broke off
I just ordered the massimo mb200, I need a badass exhaust pipe that fits, any suggestions on a kit?
I really don't mind if I continue using the pull start. However I'd like to do the headlight and then add front turn signals, rear turn signals, brakelight and tale light. Do you have any video on this?
I have a Coleman 196cc with two charging coils connected together with a brown and yellow. Is the yellow wire a ground, or a charging wire like the brown??
You can take 4 of those and nip the overlap then tack weld them into a square. Wouldn’t that be insane.
شكرا❤
Damn you would think the guy would least try to get back to people meaning his viewers on his videos he posts. Why make videos if you don't want to answer questions or get back to viewers who are supporting your channel and making it what it is by subscribing to the channel, and hitting a little button and smashing that like button. This isn't Hollywood people lol. I do like to channel a lot and appreciate his wisdom and knowledge.
Hi I really liked your video I have a harbor freight predator 301 engine and I'm trying to find a electric starter kit for it . Do you know what might work based on your experience with small engines .I have seen the ones from ebay but I'm not sure what to get .
will this work with a stage 4 212 predator? im just curious because of the billet fly wheel
They do make a 7amp stator coil but you have to change the flywheel too it's expensive but give you lots of juice
Will the voltage rectifier/regulator that is in the description work on a predator 420cc engine?
Seandainya saya dikasih mesin ini akan sangat berterimakasih karena ini bener bener bermanfaat untuk saya
When this is all wired up and working properly, what voltage should you be reading on your battery? For example on a car, your battery should be reading like 12.5ish volts while the car is off. When the car is running, the alternator takes that to about 14V. Should you see something similar on this setup? Would the voltage increase when at full throttle vs. idle? I am just trying to make sure my setup is connected properly. When running, I am seeing the same battery voltage as when off.
I am seeing the same thing. I put the Go kart on Jack Stands and at wide open throttle I see the battery slowly go up in voltage but only to around 12.8 to 12.9. At idle it seems to be the same voltage as when the Go kart was started.. I hope someone answers this question.
Are there any aluminum flywheels that work with a charging system
It's very important to check if the existing flywheel has magnets on the inside. Most e-start engine's do, most other engine's don't. Without magnets on the inside of the flywheel, the output of the coils will be close to zero amps.
Good video
Is it possible to put a charging coil on a Lifan 2.5 hp 50cc engine?
Thanks Keven
I don't think so. Thanks for watching
You briefly mentioned it but how would you stop the pulsing of a headlight like on my Coleman?
I also need help selecting the correct load resistor to stop pulsing on my bt200 with an led headlight. He did mention the coil puts out 1.5 amps so if I assume my regulator is putting out 12v with no battery it would be 12/1.5 so an 8ohm resistor . My question is do I need to check the voltage after voltage drop from the led to know for sure what resistor to use and is a battery even required or is the resistor not required with a battery.
Can you run an electric oil pump off that? Thinking of sticking a turbo on the 212 for the hell of it.
I’m running a stage 2 kit I wonder if I can even do this now 🤦🏻♂️. Guess I’ll take the flywheel off when i get my muddskipper twister with the 11hp 212
I'm new to these mods... Do all Predators' flywheels have the magnets on the inside, or is that something I'd have to replace on my 212?
It seems that all four raised mounting points are of even square-pattern distance from one-another. This makes me think: A singular 4-coil piece (all four coils being of equal size) could be made & bolted in place to prove 6-amps output. It might require a 4-coil rectifier, or a pair of 2-coil versions, but it'd be worth it.
I need to figure out how to do that
So the black wire is just not needed? Thanks for the great video!!
Will this dual rectifier / voltage regulator handle a non-governed higher RPM engine?
thank you.............great job on the vid's!
Yes it will work great
is that side cover two parts with the electric start or just one part
Nice video buddy! I have an odd one for ya: on a 4 wire rectifier off a mega moto 212 kit... I am seeing a DC voltage DROP as RPMs go higher?! I read 12AC+ on the meter coming off the two coil wires before the rectifier too. I'm thinking the rectifier is bad. Ever seen this before?
Hey red beard!, quick question would this setup work on a predator 212cc? Looking to throw some lights on my go cart but Ive only seen people use the old fly wheels.. is it possible that a go power sports fly wheel would work? Would I have to put magnets on it?
Hey Alex did you end up using this set up for a predator 212? I am thinking of doing the same and I ordered a stage 2 kit for the 212 from GPS. I believe it does have magnets on it though
I purchased an Everett 10 amp charging coil that has two wires coming out of the coil do I put each wire to each input on the regulator?
What to do if you have after market parts to soup up the bike. I remember hearing that the “stock” flywheels could not handle the revs, but I still need to charge!
What is the max amp hour size battery it can charge?
Will this work on a 420 predator and will it keep battery charged if I install lights, like tail light and head lights led. It’s for a golf cart project?
Ya know I took apart my tilly 212 NON E start to remove governor but I did'nt look if flywheel had magnets... Do you know if stock flywheel will take a coil with stock flywheel?
Red you remove the starter switch to install the rectifier regulator can we have those two at the same time?
Would I need the dual coil for a coleman ct200u. I want to add lights to it? Also, I have a bx200 that already has a light, where would I get a single coil to add to it?
just wondering if the stator will fit in a honda gx120 or if it will work at all
Is there an issue sharing the DC ground with the AC coils? Wouldn't it be more effective and safe to wire the coils in series and have the output going to the rectifier/ regulator?
Great question! I am skeptical on a shared ground too. If you read the rectifier output... I also see BOTH AC and DC simultaneously on the leads!
What key switch do you use to replace the original? Where can I get one.
Will you need to get a new flywheel if you are doing this exact thing on a predator 212
Does a non-electric start Tillitson 212 Hemi have a lighting coil already in it? Or is that option only on E-Start models?
A question I have as I'm preparing to install charging coils / starter motor to my Honda powered pressure washer, isn't there a rectifier / regulator installed inside the key switch box? If not then I need to locate one to be wired into the box as I intend to mount one to my setup.
I think they have a diod in the switch somewhere
What are the links to the parts to do this on your website ? I would very much appreciate it
I have a non electric start Predator. Where can I get a flywheel with magnets to convert it (along with coils and regulator) to have a charging system?
Amazon
I was unlucky enough to ruin the threads on the crankshaft of a predator 212 by taking the flywheel off using the 13/16 nut to protect the threads like you did in this video. It seems like I was just unlucky but wanted to let people know it CAN happen. Maybe a defective and weak thread in my case, but the nut was not being hit aggressively at all. This is still the seemingly safest way to remove the flywheel that I have seen.
You probably didn't have the nut threaded down far enough or it was crossthreaded
What is the best location to bolt on regulator. My go kart didn't have one from factory, so I have no clue where it goes? Thanks in advance.
Just curious. The new wire under the edge of that wire hold down. Because it's pinched and not ran through the loop will vibration over time wear into the wire and cause a short?
Exactly...I,d be surprised if it isn’t already shorted 🙄
What if you got a flywheel and the taper bore was too big for the crankshaft? Could you use a shim and still use the flywheel?
can a lighting coil charge the battery as well with a rectifier regulator?
I think I have a bad rectifier. Mine is wired the same as yours. I get 3 to 10 volts DC out but that's not enough to charge the battery. The voltage goes up with RPM but at a certain point it reverses and starts going down with more rpm.
Where can you find a aluminum flywheel with inner charging coils for running lights on predator 212 motors?
The golden question
CALVOOOOOO! Buen video gracias por explicar.
I have a 420cc predator motor from harbor freight and I have a push start installed but I am having issues getting it started it's been sitting for a while but I have clean oil I have not checked the spark plugs I don't know if it could be something around my carburetor there's fuel in it though I just don't know what to do to get it started because it won't start it cranks but it won't start
Is that blue wire coming from the engine the kill switch?
I bought one of the voltage regulators but my wires are in different order then the one in the video. Is the wiring going to still the same?
So if I have the charging coils where they are daisy chained together so I only have one wire coming from behind the flywheel do I only need a rectifier/regulator with 3 wires (coil wire, out put wire/ ground wire)?
I wonder what other charging options there are on these?
I need some help. Going to watch this, but my needs are a little different. I have a 15hp 420cc horizontal engine. Would like to set up a similar system that’ll charge a 12v deep cycle marine battery. Do you know roughly how many amp hours you could charge with in an hour? Is there a calculator. I don’t have an electric start, can I put one on?
