We have Moped cars here in Sweden as 15yo that has 2cylinder ~500cc diesel engines between 5-8hp stock a cvt and they are regulated to go a maximum of 45kmh ~28mph, the cool thing is that you can change weights in the cvt and change out the exhaust and the stock dci/hdi box and you will have 15-25hp and now these small moped cars are good for 80-100kmh ~50-60mph which is rather fast when you take in consideration that it is a moped that by EU law are only allowed to go ~28mph. So it's fun seeing you guys trying out diesels they might not have the fastest acceleration but you can usually get them to stupid fast because of the high torque diesels naturally have 😁
yeah, good to get a tig! you guys need one, and when you are good at it you can take the tig home and do welding at the tv room table. So much less dramatic with splatter and stuff then a mig!

@11:38 you forgot to open the fuel valve, that's why it doesn't want to run 😂 The injectors are LOUD on these engines, so a good way to check if it is ready to run, is to hold the compression release lever open, pull the recoil and listen for the injector squirting. Well done. Amazing colour work. The slowmou uncle was faster on the bigger diesel engine because his weight counterbalanced and grounded the wheels. A suggestion - Must attach the original muffler to the extended tube. 😎✨
One last thing...I have a KLX140 and I think it is rated at something like 7hp. After my big bore kit to 190cc and a port, carb, and pipe it has over 15hp. The thing is a beast and the motor is still air cooled.
They've mandated summer fuel where I am to be B5 biodiesel now. It's more prone to bacterial growth imo. My old job had a truck sit for about a year and the fuel went bad. Another truck sat for 3 years and it didn't because it was before they put that crap in the fuel.
Drove 18 wheelers in the 70s when fuel was like 30cents a gallon, always had to put an additive in it to keep the groth down or it would turn like jelly.
Uh, did they know about depressure knob?(the little red knob thingy, top of the cylinder head, beside the injector. No wonder the starter are just shredded to pieces 😂😂😂
@@lensrc7460 I think they should use the knob to disable the compression, thus make it easier to gain more rotation momentum. I think the added torque of the diesel engine helps get that clutch spun up. Then the correct gearing with the sprockets made for an all around better kart. Cool build, dig the diesel engine, im curious how a turbo would do
Disabled the governor so the throttle links to the rack / element, what ever the governor is linked to so it can rev. They actually tolerate high rpm, you can watch video of people trying to blow them up with locked governors and no load! They often will just rev to 1-2000 rpm faster and stay there, rpm being limited by injection timing and volumetric efficiency like a petrol engine. If you could find another fuel pump from a 600-900cc engine with no governor, ( you need a bigger element)you could add boost/ air. Fitting a turbo to standard pump Will just make heat!
Ive had a few generators with this same yanmar l100 "clone" ive started with a cordless drill, not impact, and i do this with the latest one i have with a sterter... Hold the compression release down until you have the rpms all the way up with starter/ drill and let it go. The momentum of that heavy flywheel will do the rest!

I made some of those plastic washers from some HDPE tape I had and I have some leather punches for the hole then I stick them in place and trim the outside to the shape of the part. It’s kind of an expensive rout but I had the stuff luring around. The adhesive back makes for easy install and if you have to take the thing apart there’s no extra washers to loose, keep track of, fumble around with etc.
Just wanna mention this video was so good i didnt notice it was longer than an hour. Been watching since 6 pm and now its 12 (was doing stuff in-between but never changed videos)

It performs so well because of the time to full speed difference in the two engines - lap time is all about speed vs time needed to get to speed. The torque of the diesel gets you to speed faster so you spend more time at speed = faster lap time. The layout of the course - the length of straight sections, particularly - determines the top speed that is possible while maintaining control - it seems that the combination is perfect for the track/speed layout.

I’ve got a little monster moto mini bike that I threw a 98cc on, I closed the spark plug gap some, moved the ignition coil closer to the flywheel, deleted the governor on the engine, threw on a cheap carb and header pipe from Amazon and it RIPS I can hit about 40mph on it before it vibrates the hell out of the bike and so I slow down and it cruises at 30mph no problem, my only complaint is the camshaft is made entirely out of plastic but if I had to guess it’s making around 4.5-5hp now and it’s hilariously fun

Good luck and Practice makes perfect. Get an extra tank of straight Argon for Tig welding Stainless and Aluminum.👍
No one talking about how the Diesel engine sounds like a lions roar when he lets off the gas at 1:10:48 Love the sound lol
I've heard some of these engines have sat in a dirt turner for over 6 years, with little to non maintenance at all, still starts and runs like a champ
Worst tig weld is the one you didnt try. I was blessed to have my entire apprenticeship in tig doing stainless food and beverage equipment 29 years ago.
MIG = Monkey Ignorant Gun. Any monkey can do it, and some do it well, but tig is an art.
amen ma man
Over here in UK us stick welders call migs hot glue guns! I've done thin sheet and even motorcycle headers with stick, done heavy work too (RSJ'S)and cast iron! most of that is an art as well!
I was cracking up at around 1:12:30. John looked like he was on another planet or something 🤣
Id say going 1-2 teeth bigger on the clutch would improve the top speed by a lot. 1 tooth on the clutch makes up for 8 teeth on the rear. A Turbo and a good porting job would improve the hp and torque by alot.
how many teeth on that clutch sprocket, did you manage to see by chance?
@@aidanlyons1155 Just taking a guess id say 14-15 if its a 1 inch shaft engine.
I mean, they did say it's already sketchy enough in the corners, adding speed probably isn't going to help much, at least not on their track.

Let’s all appreciate the hard work that goes into making these videos!
Lol. I have that same motor on a mini bike. With 40 converter. I call it the D-69 cat lol. It's all done up to look like a cat machine.
i need to see this
We wanna see this sounds like a cool build man
I think Blackstar really hit the nail on the head with the fly 3 series amplifier. ( I have the combo extension cabinet (fly103). After using my 6 Watt setup for 5 yrs. This is to be delivered to my door by Saturday. I'm very excited and proud to make it my new practice amp(5 watt mode!!) I'm 46 and this amp is for way more than beginners.
I almost feel like I'm watching an episode of Diesel Creek....lol
Matt would be stoked to see this lmao
Both of you was extremely excited, we were too! Look, different gearing for a faster top speed and a small turbo addition, it'll spin up faster with a little power braking at start to build boost, then let it rip on a hot lap....
Before things get crazy with mods, I'd love to see a little torch shooting propane into the intake via "nitrous" button.
You're speaking my language brother
That would actually help.
@@lamarzimmermanmennonitefar5269It's not goimg to hurt anything of value.
nobody uses propane for a reason, nitrous is better.
@@cs-gj3yfwrong. Nitrous is extra air, propane is fuel. A diesel makes power with timed fuel injection and the correct amount of air. If it's making black smoke then you need more are, if it's not you need more fuel. Adding nitrous to a diesel making no black smoke is going to get you little/nothing. Adding propane is untimed fuel for when you can't get any more from the injection pump. It helps spool the turbo earlier too. I have a propane Injection system I built on my diesel Mercedes I tow with.
Fun stuff guys. Congrats to BBR for the design.
I didn't know Will Ferrell built go-carts! Go Ricky Bobby! "If you're not first you're last"!
Wow got out of the game a few years back, Came back to see what's new and you guys are still rocking videos! AWESOME
Can’t believe you got the original Goose from top gun to help out
Cars and Cameras, love the video and the note about safety. I want to add one further safety note for people. If someone who is going to ride a go kart with long hair.. please tuck it up or tie it up. It can get caught in the rotating parts exposed on the engine. And that can cause serious injuries... be safe out there!!
The mix of colors reminds me of the Partridge Family bus from the 70s. Need a flipper on the exhaust pipe. John it was nice of you to introduce your girlfriend. You two make a great couple.
I skipped that part
@11:38 you forgot to open the fuel valve, that's why it doesn't want to run 😂
The injectors are LOUD on these engines, so a good way to check if it is ready to run, is to hold the compression release lever open, pull the recoil and listen for the injector squirting.
When you hear the injector, it will always start at the first pull.
Ah, you fell for the ol' flywheel scam. Happens to the best of us.
Even on summer days, put with a syringe some oil 2-3 ml after take off that orange cap from top op cylinder, help piston to lubrificate, on winter days it's a must, have joy
i would love to see you put a turbo or even a supercharger on this machine
New cart, no long pants, no long sleeves, no gloves. You guys are nuts ! 😲 Nice video. The diesel gives you a ton of torque.
Rolling coal patrol!! 🔥 💨
Hey @CarandCameras. Just stumbled upon your channel. (Probably because I have wanted a go kart my entire life and often mention it). Like it’s definitely a bucket list item. It may be too late for me to tho? I went through a heartbreaking breakup where my ex is trying to keep our kids from me. You see, I worked too much she got bored and cheated and cheated and… you know cheated.
Wow SMH. Anyway I got set back. The whole thing has nearly destroyed me mentally. But I don’t want to feel physically paralyzed today.
This is where I want to thank you guys for putting together a great show. It was a needed distraction for me. I even feel more motivated. I might do something productive today.
SMH…. That’s Wild.. just a few guys having fun building go karts but the unknown impact elsewhere is saving life’s.
Again thank you guys!
Best Regards
Jesse Vance.
Sorry your going through some bad times. Its never too late to get into karting. Next month I'll be 48
Your buddy needs to be part of the channel. He's already super comfortable with the camera 🙂
He has his own channel thats why hes so comfortable lol

I love TIG welding... can be so satisfying once the learning curve realy hits
I apsolutly died of laughter when I saw the comment about doubling her playback speed
Well done. Amazing colour work. The slowmou uncle was faster on the bigger diesel engine because his weight counterbalanced and grounded the wheels. A suggestion - Must attach the original muffler to the extended tube. 😎✨
Loads of torque I bet
One last thing...I have a KLX140 and I think it is rated at something like 7hp. After my big bore kit to 190cc and a port, carb, and pipe it has over 15hp. The thing is a beast and the motor is still air cooled.
diesel has a forever shelf life
They've mandated summer fuel where I am to be B5 biodiesel now.

@@chucksmalfus9623 i have seen 30 year old diesel fire up. only time i have ever seen diesel turn into jelly is when its too cold.
BBR really went over the top with that kit! Impressive!! You guys are awesome for building their kit on your channel
Uh, did they know about depressure knob?(the little red knob thingy, top of the cylinder head, beside the injector. No wonder the starter are just shredded to pieces 😂😂😂
yes, they knew about it
@@lensrc7460 I think they should use the knob to disable the compression, thus make it easier to gain more rotation momentum. After enough momentum gained, just let go of the knob and the engine will do the rest.
That's how we start some Chinese diesel engine here.
Those Chinese really go low with that starter tho.

Wheres Charles? Ima ask this on every video until I get a answer.lol

Yep I found it.. didn't know they have a podcast
The diesel is really showing torque in this video. It has lots of get up and go but cuts out pretty quick. Cool video!
Dieselgate is such a great nickname for the kart. Love it.
Actually the center part of the pull start is the drum of a basic no recoil rope pull start. The 2 little grooves in the ridge in where the knot at the end of the rope fits.
Good luck
I think the added torque of the diesel engine helps get that clutch spun up. Then the correct gearing with the sprockets made for an all around better kart. I bet if you was to add some suspension and just a tad bit of weight to the nose you would really be able to throw that thing into the turns wirh confidence. Great build fellas!
44:34 indicates you're a cool guy, there are a lot of people out there who embarrases people who are trying out something.
and making them never want to do it again, i'm glad that you respect that, i had a lot of teachers in the past who had the mindset that people whould do everything perfectly, and it's disgusting.
The momentum of that heavy flywheel will do the rest!
tell ya what, this was in my feed, and it was right up my alley. great content, great shop, great personalities. makes me wish i had friends lol! well ones that were into this kinda fun. see ya on future videos ill be watching.
I bought this same engine for my snow blower and it works really good. I dealt with some small issues finding the right belt size but once I got that dialed in it’s strong as a bull!
Another great vid guys...Guess the torque of a diesel and weight over the drive wheels = Traction could be a factor...just plain ol brute force....love it
That thing has so much torque. Bigger back tires for more contact on the loose stuff and more cushion in the rear with all that weight.
Epic paint-job on that bolt-cart! 👍👍👍
with tig welding torch angle is fine unless you are welding aluminum then you would 100% need it close to 90. you'll love it prep is key with tig welding you need shiny metal. you can also use brazing wire with tig to make beautiful gold welds. its funny too i just bought that consumable set.
Glad to see someone happy at what they do
It performs so well because of the time to full speed difference in the two engines - lap time is all about speed vs time needed to get to speed. The torque of the diesel gets you to speed faster so you spend more time at speed = faster lap time. The layout of the course - the length of straight sections, particularly - determines the top speed that is possible while maintaining control - it seems that the combination is perfect for the track/speed layout.
What a neat episode! I'm so glad I clicked on it. I really dig that paint idea
I never thought that there would ever be a diesel small engine but they’ve been around for YEARS! It’s crazy how far technology has come in just the last ten or twenty years.
Ive never watched an hr long youtube video beforee this was quite entertaining, learned alot too .

I love yard carts! Nice effort fellas!!🎉
