  • There are some write ups saying you need to remove suspension parts and the brake caliper to remove the front axle of a Q5 with 4 cylinder turbo. DO NOT touch them! Simply turn the wheel all the way and the axle can slide out.
This vid is not intended to be a full do it yourself with tools and torques, but simply shows how easy the axle comes out after doing the following:
    1) remove wheel cap
    2) remove main axle bolt using very long breaker bar and 19” bit, then screw it back in a few turns
    3) loosen lugs for axle replacement wheel
    4) jack up car on both sides: put jack stand on axle side and leave the jack on opposite side (no jack stand)
    5) finish removing wheel bolts and wheel, then turn steering wheel all the way to opposite side of axle. Lower the jack to let opposite wheel touch ground (keeps drive train from rotating when removing triple square bolts)
    6) remove 2 Plastic nuts holding on the small plastic panel shown in video
    7) spray each of six 10mm triple square bolts with WD40, wait a couple min
    8) use long extension and breaker bar, remove any bolts you can easily reach with the extension somewhat straight.
    9) jack up the opposite wheel, rotate the axle to reach other bolts, lower the wheel
    10) remove all 6 bolts
    11) hit the engine side of axle with hammer to dislodge, then slide toward back of car
    12) tap the main axle bolt with hammer to free the axle from hub, then remove bolt
    13) remove axle similar to what i show in video
    14) reverse all for installation
NOTE: main axle bolt is a STRETCH BOLT AND IS NOT REUSABLE! You need to have a new one.
    15) Have a beer
All of this took me 2 hours my first time. Good luck.
