Thanks for the great videos! We’re headed out west later this month to spend 5 months and your videos are giving us some great places to go adventuring with our kids.
Adam's burger looked delicious. Also, at the 7:50 mark of the video it reminds me so much of pictures of the approach into Petra, Jordan. It looked like you guys had a special day.
I hiked and camped in Paria canyon in 1987 - probably before you two were born! I thought that was a different slot canyon than Buckskin Gulch, but the arch at the 5:30 mark in your video looks exactly like one I have in a photo, so maybe it was the same trail. I remember those wooden ladders and the logs jammed between the canyon walls 25 feet overhead. Glad you were spared any flash floods! Back then I think we had the entire canyon to ourselves. Camping overnight was a special treat - the bats come out at dusk.
Adam may have been a month old haha (November 1987 baby!). This hike is located in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area (as well as also Grand Staircase-Escalante), so it very well was the same one! The log jams up above were insane! A big reminder that water still gets VERY high in there! Camping out there would've been so so cool!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I'm glad you showed the petroglyphs. I don't know why I don't have photos of those - have plenty of sandstone rock textures, they look like rope or layers of cake frosting. I was there in June 1987 but remember it like it was last week. We also did Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Arches, Monument Valley, Marble Canyon and the North Rim of the GC. Thanks for letting me relive my adventures - I can't want to go back to Utah now. Still trying for The Wave…
The petroglyphs were really neat! We are going to be sharing a spot soon with even more and it's mind blowing! Very happy that some of that history has stayed preserved. Your trip sounds like it was an amazing combo of parks! And the Wave will forever be something we strive for hahaha...one day!
Wow...the slot canyon is amazing...so massive and so beautiful...what an experience! Your burger and enchiladas sure looked mouth watering delicious! Thanks for another great video❣️
Visited this place on your recommendation and LOVED this hike. Thought you'd laugh hearing that the ladder is no longer there. It is just a stick now LOL. :) I just put out a video in case you are curious, but really wanted to pop in and say thanks for this video, because it really made for a wonderful day. I'd go back in a heartbeat!
Great video guys! We did this hike with our daughter a few months back when Antelope Canyon was closed. Such beautiful rock formations, you guys picked a great time/day to do this. Looking forward to more great videos! - Jenny and Lance
Sorry for getting here late - when you came into the clearing coming out of the canyon - WOW! I love getting different perspectives from around the country. I vlog and blog about the midwest - but seeing other places makes my heart smile. We have beautiful places in this world - and some not a very far drive from our own back yards. A few days drive and you can be near an ocean, mountain, desert, great lakes, and plains! Thankful for your work! Keep posting my friends. OOOHHHH and how flintstones WAS that burger? Looked amazing!
This is a great video, thank you! Another girl and I found this on All Trails and did it in February. I’m so happy we did. Your video was much better quality than ours :)
Took a trip out west last summer. One day we were going to spend time at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, but there were wildfires there. We decided to do this trail instead. It was amazing. The smoke from the wildfire gave the sky a yellowish tint and made the experience surreal, but also very beautiful. The ladder down is a nice addition. When we visited, there was no ladder.
Sometimes wildfires skies are REALLY cool (despite the unfortunate reasons why). We just saw some photos last night of it without a ladder...it looks WAY harder without it!
I am so glad you found Kanab! It is a great area! We probably did Buckskin back in 2010 so after watching your video, I want to do it again! Your pictures and video showed how awesome it is! And the Rocking V is delicious! Yes, a little pricey but like you said, delicious!
We loved the area so much! It was a great home base for the first part of our adventures in the area. So glad you have been to Rocking V! We had heard so many good things and it lived up to the hype!
@@AdventuresofAplusK My husband enjoyed your video, too. BTW, the ladder was not there when we did the hike. That was fun! It was easy going down but going back up.....let's just say my husband had to push me up! Can't wait to see your other Utah videos!
This was so awesome! I've never had the chance to hike a slot canyon, and I want to even more now! Kathryn's little squeaks of excitement are so funny! The scenes on camera are incredible and I'm sure they don't do it justice to being in person. The free campsite near Kanab looked delightful! Adam's burger looked awesome and so did the Enchilada!
We got so hooked on slot canyons in Utah! If you’re not claustrophobic they are a BLAST! We loved that burger and enchilada so much, solid food in a small town!
This is amazing! I’m so glad I live in a city with so many awesome trails, but I love discovering new ones! Thanks for sharing! Cool channel! I’m following!
My wife and I were at Wire Pass to Buckskin Gulch on March 19. I suspect days after you. For those not able to get Wave permits, consider South Coyote Buttes permit lottery. Only 11 people came for the that lottery (held just after Wave lottery) and 10 people per day may hike there. DO NOT DO South Coyote Buttes without a high clearance 4X4 or you will more certainly get stuck in HIGH sand without cell service. They recommend you bring 3 days of food and water just in case. If you have these things... IT WAS WORTH IT AND FANTASTIC! Also ate at the Rockin V. It was so so.
Okay, now that I've got the 'first' situation out of my system (I couldn't resist 🤦♀️) I'll post a nicer comment now! 🤣 The clip at 7:05 and 2 that followed were all kinds of amazing, insane cinematography!!! 😍 I'm surprised dogs are allowed on the trail as I can't imagine many would be happy with the ladder - I can understand why you left Kona to snooze in the van! That would be an awesome hike for in the summer as it'd keep you out of the sun for most of the day. I've surprised myself that I didn't know about it when we were in the area a few years back! Loved these Utah videos so far and looking forward to other stuff still to come!! 🙌🙌
Hahaha loved the "first" comment! Thank you for watching so early and thank you so much for the sweet words about the footage! We had a lot of fun filming in there 😍 So far poor little Kona has had to miss out on a lot here in Utah due to either no dogs allowed or hikes not being the best for her (she doesn't do well in tight spaces with strangers or other dogs), but we are a bit jealous that she is getting to sleep a lot whereas we are not 🤣 VERY excited to share more soon and hopefully give you more ideas for your next trip here!
Unreal!!! What an amazing and stunning hike this was!!! Oh my word this was mind blowing right from the get go! Your camera work is fantastic as always...WOW! Katherine your excited squeal at the beginning was too cute! Thanks for being so amazing and letting me travel the world vicariously through you two! I love you guys! 😍🤩😮😲😳
Nice. That looks like a more accessible slot canyon that Peek-a-boo and Spooky, so well done. Good for those of us in your parent's gen. You always find the best food stops. Do you ever tell it like it is and hate some food choices? Safe travels.
This one is definitely less spooky! And to be honest, we never really have a bad meal. We do tons of research to pick spots that have great reviews, so we truly are always happy with what we get! We are also probably easy to please, we just love food 😂
Now you're getting into the good stuff! Of course, the entire bottom half of Utah is good stuff! 🤣 I'm hoping to return in a few weeks. May is the best for the Colorado Plateau.
It's one of our favorite things to experience as well! And I'll let Adam know you dug the music, he is our music guru these days and I really like what he picked too!
Amazing! That was simply spectacular. Camera work was great as usual. You really were able to capture the features of this place from the magnitude to the colors and to the claustrophobic qualities. Definite bucket list item for me. I would love to attempt a backpacking trip to hike the entire gulch to Lees Ferry. We were there with the golden ticket this past August. I wanted to add this on but the recent reviews stated the ladder was no longer present, so I didn’t even consider it. The area had some significant flash flood events over the summer. We didn’t go to Rockin’ V but I will give a plug for the Wild Thyme Cafe.
A backpacking trip would be so epic! And we had heard the ladder used to not exist and I do believe we heard it got ruined again. Definitely would make it harder 😅
Oh my! Another hike that I will never make but virtually did it with you guys! Thanks! What a beautiful and amazing hike that was! Loved Kanab and might have to make that a destination sometime! So glad you guys are still safe and avoiding covid! We've had both of our shots but still wear the mask and social distance. Sunscreen is good too!! lol
So glad we could bring you along Loey! Kanab is a great spot to visit, with lots of amazing things nearby! And we just got our vaccine on Tuesday (feeling great!) and are excited to be one step closer to normalcy (but of course masks and distance until then)! 🎉
glad you showed the different stages from maps to roads, etc...I think you maybe just made it to Buckskin at that big opening and you could have turned right or left, left looks to be even more amazing ...a few more miles
The first big opening after Wire Pass is where it connects with Buckskin and you can go left or right, but we heard going to the right, like we did, for the rest of the hike is more slot canyon-like, while the left is a bit more open, but we can’t speak to the left since we didn’t go that way.
FYI, as of end of October 2021, the ladder at 2:25 was washed out and is now located about a 1/4 mile down from the Wire Pass/Buckskin confluence wedged up about 30 feet above the canyon floor (which says a lot about how deep and dangerous flash floods in slot canyons can be). There is now a rope and a tree trunk at the scramble to help you get up/down. You also have the option of detouring around that section of slot.
LOVE your videos! Thank you very much guys! We are planing the trip to California and Utah on this May, so this is so helpful for us! We watch your channel from the first one and following you on instagram around two years. If you ever want to go to Moscow just tell us😁
@@AdventuresofAplusK yeah! We already have tickets Moscow - San Francisco, we have been to NY once, so this trip will be the second to USA. And we build a van in Moscow right now, so maybe some day we can go to America by our owr van, but unfortunately it's not easy(
State of Utah is so beautiful I spent a week in around Moab and Monument Valley Last year. Going to Texas tomorrow, will check out the taco spots from your Austin vlog 😁. Thanks guys!!!!!!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I don’t know if you guys have already done it but while in Utah, go to this place called Moab Adventure Center and do their ‘Hell’s revenge Hummer Safari’. It might be one of the coolest things that you’ve ever done!!! Try to do the early morning trip with Driver Craig, he’s the best!!!!!!!
We may or may not be heading back to Wyoming this summer 😉 But we have filmed Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP before! If we do go back, we'll be focusing on more dog friendly areas this time!
Love it! We really missed out, not hiking Wire Pass when we had the chance. Glad we can can live vicariously through you guys. Have you considered White Pocket? That was our most exciting day near Kanab. But certainly not for Brisket, you need to get there through deep sand with a 4x4.
Very cool. I have buckskin on my bucket list. I would so move to that area from Texas. It's so beautiful out there. Have y'all done a video on Sedona? That is one of my favorite places.
This part of the US is SO awesome, especially if you love the outdoors! I grew up near Phoenix for my first 8 years and sometimes wish my family had stayed there so I could've hiked more (but then I wouldn't have met Adam!). We did an Arizona trip, including Sedona, back in 2018. Here are those videos: ruclips.net/p/PLZKRTK1yCEM4fjn3KAt9kM4wmlYFClSiq (we did Sedona in the 1st and 2nd videos)

Thank you and thanks for watching! Kathryn says what she does probably isn't considered color grading. She mostly just adjusts a couple settings. We try to keep it as close to how it looked to us as possible. She does all of the editing in Premiere Pro
Hi, guys! LOVE watching any hike videos so thank you for taking us there through your eyes! Kathryn, Can you tell how you're able to get your DSLR to "attach" to your pack's strap (around 5:00 minutes in) -- I find I'm always lugging my DSLR on hikes too but have not found any way to "attach" it so I am forever holding it. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much! L (and Andy)
LOTS of hiking videos coming, so get ready! 🙌 And that is a Peak Design camera clip. amzn.to/31P1jbC It is the BEST! Adam has been jealous of mine, so now he will be rocking one soon too! It makes hiking with a camera a lot easier.
@@AdventuresofAplusK Kathryn, you have no idea how much this one comment is a game-changer for me! Thank you so so much for writing back! We love hiking, camping, and backpacking and again I refuse to leave my DSLR even though I hate lugging it. Anyway, I'm super appreciative for your comment and link . . . and now for some Amazon shopping as an early birthday present to myself! haha L (and Andy)
you guys do Great videography of the most serene places! I plan to explore various places in utah the end of may consisting of canyons, waterfalls and whatever else I decide to see along the way. I love to see you guys check them out first so I can see what they are like. Let know if you want to explore these sites whole you are there in utah.
Great video and hike. I'll be in Kanab in June 2021....thanks for all the suggestions. Question - The Garmin InReach mini.....do you connect it to your phone, or is its solely used for messaging and sending SOS (in case you need it)? Did your track show up on your Alltrails downloaded map without the Garmin?
Hi! We have the Garmin connected to our phone via their app, which is how we send out texts if needed. The SOS is on the actual Garmin though, behind a little “door” so you don’t risk setting it off accidentally (not sure if you can do this from the phone to be honest). And we have AllTrails Pro, so we download offline maps and it tracks even without cell service (no Garmin needed!). I hope that helps!
That is a Garmin InReach! amzn.to/2NuiMBW It's a satellite device that lets us send messages to loved ones (without cell service) to keep them informed about our whereabouts, tracking, and also a SOS feature in case we ever get into trouble and need help.
It's a bit pricey (monthly fee as well) and something we never really hope to have to use (minus the texting feature), but it has given us great peace of mind!
Awesome video, as always! Two questions: (a) Does Kathryn ever DRIVE or is "A" as driver just the formula for the videos? (b) What footwear do you use for such hikes? I can't quite make out what you're wearing. Seems you'd need something sturdy. (Keep up the good work. I look forward to each week's new installment of A plus K.)
Hahaha I don't drive much (I do know how to drive the van and have many times!) only because any time we are driving, I am editing a video, working my day job, or writing guides. So the deal is Adam drives, I crank out work. Hopefully one day our workload won't be so chaotic so I can drive more because I love to drive! For footwear, I wear Lowa Renegade hiking boots and Adam has Altra Superior trail running shoes. He prefers something less clunky than boots, but I love my boots because they are super water resistant and sturdy! Sometimes we wear hiking sandals (Chacos) if the terrain is appropriate for them.
You guys feel like you're saying the same words all the time... wow, amazing, cool... I feel the same on commenting... those slot canyons are like Wow, amazing, incredible 😂😂😂 at a loss for words. God's creation is so wild and we only see what's on our little planet in a vast universe.. incredibly wild! Nice shake a leg Adam 😉☺😂
At 9:39 you show tat you are driving 1112 mph on the dirt road. When we drove our rental RV (C25) to West Grand Canyon we did the same. On the way back I drove faster and at a certain speed, which I forgot of course, it didn't feel so bad anymore. The shaking was much less plus the trip takes less time. You really have to find out the ideal speed for your car and the road you are on, but it's not always slower is better.
Yeah it’s tough in the van, since we have cabinets that are full of items that rattle. Going faster risks hurting our van build more. We went what Adam felt comfortable with
Kathryn, have you guys ever had to use your inreach mini? We are headed to Yellowstone in September with our kiddos and have been debating this purchase.
We stayed at the Stateline Campground, just a couple miles down the road. The link to the Campendium page is in the description! It only has 8 spots, but we didn't have an issue getting one on a Saturday afternoon! For the rest of our time in the area, we stayed at the Old Hwy 89 dispersed area in Kanab and LOVED it!
This was at the end of March! We didn’t see any snow, although it had snowed a couple days before in the surrounding area, so we waited to make sure the road was dry.
NOTE: The ladder we show in this video is now washed out due to a flash flood. There is now a rope and a tree trunk to help you get down or you can detour around this section.

That wooden ladder was epic.
It used to not be there and we are SO glad it was! Otherwise getting down would not have been fun!
glad you showed the different stages from maps to roads, etc...I think you maybe just made it to Buckskin at that big opening and you could have turned right or left, left looks to be even more amazing ...a few more miles
The first big opening after Wire Pass is where it connects with Buckskin and you can go left or right, but we heard going to the right, like we did, for the rest of the hike is more slot canyon-like, while the left is a bit more open, but we can’t speak to the left since we didn’t go that way.
Wow! This is fun! I love it!
It was such a fun hike!
It must have been so cool to hike there!
It was pretty unreal! 😍
@@AdventuresofAplusK I can imagine. One day we'll make it back out west. I really want to hike this canyon now!
Thank you for this update! We will update the guide on our site and this video's description to reflect this!
Beautiful and helpful. I'm going there on 4th of July 🤩
Have the best time!
Just got back from a trip to page and Zion this was a crazy hike!!
We hope you had a blast!
LOVE your videos! Thank you very much guys! We are planing the trip to California and Utah on this May, so this is so helpful for us! We watch your channel from the first one and following you on instagram around two years. If you ever want to go to Moscow just tell us😁
That is going to be an awesome trip!!! Are y'all coming from Russia?!
@@AdventuresofAplusK yeah! We already have tickets Moscow - San Francisco, we have been to NY once, so this trip will be the second to USA. And we build a van in Moscow right now, so maybe some day we can go to America by our owr van, but unfortunately it's not easy(
Wow, what a trek!!! We'd love to visit Russia someday! And congrats on building a van!
@@AdventuresofAplusK thank you soo much! good luck in all your adventures guys!
I HAVE to get down to Kanab someday! I live 4 hours from there but have never been.
Ooo yes, you gotta go! Lots of great things to do nearby!
State of Utah is so beautiful I spent a week in around Moab and Monument Valley Last year.
Going to Texas tomorrow, will check out the taco spots from your Austin vlog 😁.
Thanks guys!!!!!!
Have a great time in Texas and enjoy lots of tacos for us! That is something our time in Utah has been lacking so far!
Oh wow that sounds super fun!
Immediately jumped with joy at the sight of a new video!! Looks like an engaging hike haha. Will you guys do Wyoming next? I'd love to see that!
We really wanted to, but logistically it was just too tough with Kona and having to spend money to rent something. It looks awesome!
So interesting and a nice adventure
I was like 275👍
Thank you so much for watching and 👍 William!
It's such an amazing place !
Absolutely breathtaking!
That is really awesome
Pretty spectacular! Nature is insane!
Very cool video!!!
Thank you so much!
Love your adventures. Can you please share where did you get the cool backpack? Thanks
Hi! It's a Wandrd backpack, we love it! We have all of our gear listed here if you're curious about anything else too! adventuresofaplusk.com/resources/
Reminds me of the entrance pass into Petra. :)
We would love to go there!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Lot's of life left. Jordan is an amazing country, don't miss Pella in the north.
Big fan of you guys! I've watched almost all of your videos. Quick question here. Do you coloque grade your videos, if so, what app do y'all use?
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Kathryn says what she does probably isn't considered color grading. She mostly just adjusts a couple settings. We try to keep it as close to how it looked to us as possible. She does all of the editing in Premiere Pro
was wondering do you have like a travel guide that can be purchased. i would love to have a book of all the amazing places you both visit.
We do not have a travel guide for sale, but we have tons of free travel guides on our website! adventuresofaplusk.com/destinations/
@@AdventuresofAplusK that's amazing. Thanks for the insanely fast response. Such a 5 star channel. Much love from south dakota.
Of course! Thank YOU for watching!!!
thanks A+K
Anyway, I'm super appreciative for your comment and link . . . and now for some Amazon shopping as an early birthday present to myself! haha
L (and Andy)
The clip is a game changer! Seriously makes hiking more enjoyable with a camera! Happy early birthday! 🎉
you guys do Great videography of the most serene places!
I plan to explore various places in utah the end of may consisting of canyons, waterfalls and whatever else I decide to see along the way. I love to see you guys check them out first so I can see what they are like. Let know if you want to explore these sites whole you are there in utah.
Hi! Thanks for the kind words! We have tons of more spots planned to visit, hopefully they line up with where you plan to go!
It’s so beautiful love ur video taking but what if I’m claustrophobic I kinda feel like I’d suffocate in those narrow spaces! That food looked yum 😋
Definitely not for those who are claustrophobic!
Great video! Thank you so much! May I ask what is the red thing on your right shoulder?
That is a Garmin InReach! amzn.to/2NuiMBW It's a satellite device that lets us send messages to loved ones (without cell service) to keep them informed about our whereabouts, tracking, and also a SOS feature in case we ever get into trouble and need help.
@@AdventuresofAplusK Thank. This what I thought. Just don't have it. Thanks for the link.
I feel the same on commenting... those slot canyons are like Wow, amazing, incredible 😂😂😂
at a loss for words. God's creation is so wild and we only see what's on our little planet in a vast universe.. incredibly wild! Nice shake a leg Adam 😉☺😂
Hahaha we definitely feel like a broken record at times haha! But it's hard not to be!
I love the crystalline concrete slot canyons of the True Ancients who built the continents. :) #TerraformingofTerra
Another excellent video, it appeared that the parking area at wire pass was pretty crowded when you returned, was it full ?
It was probably 50% full when we left. It looked busier the night before around 3 or 4 PM when we drove by it.
@@AdventuresofAplusK I have been to the State line camp ground to help Arizona trail hikers and the wire pass parking lot always looks full
That campground is great! We loved staying there! And it definitely is a busy hike, but at sunrise it was super empty.
Wow😍 but how did y’all not feel claustrophobic, I sure would have😭
It really wasn’t that tight! We will be hopefully visiting one soon that is VERY narrow 😬
Try the pork chop at the Rocking V 👍🏻
You don't have to twist our arm to get us to go back there! 😉
We have only used it to text my mom, which she really appreciates! But we hope to never have to truly use it. Very glad we have it though!
I’ve been there! Didn’t go as far in wish I did lol.
It kept getting better and better!
I might be commenting to early in the video but would love to see of some of your images you captured.
We shared a bunch in the hiking guide we wrote for this trail (in the pinned comment)!
Where did you camp? We're planning on going down there this fall for a few days!
What time of year did y'all go? I tried to go in mid-march but the snow didn't look like it was going to agree with my 2-wheel drive
This was at the end of March! We didn’t see any snow, although it had snowed a couple days before in the surrounding area, so we waited to make sure the road was dry.
What time did you start the hike to get that good lighting? also what month was this?
We started at 7:15 AM in late March
@@AdventuresofAplusK awesome Ill be in that area at the end of this month :)
What do you film with a camera or phone? I'm going on a west trip from Florida this year.
Hi! We film with mirrorless Sony cameras. We have all of our gear listed here: adventuresofaplusk.com/resources/
Hi!!! In which month did you went there? It seems pretty cold!
This was in March!
@@AdventuresofAplusK perfect!!! We will try to be there next week on friday! :)
Notice that small tree trunk jambed between the narrow walls 20 ft over your head? ( @7:10)? That’s how high the flash flood went. You are warned!
Hey grand canyon, 20 million yrs ago!
Even more wild to think of how the Grand Canyon formed! 😮
Wow I’m early.
Thank you for watching early! 💗
Where is the free camping around kanab? Is it easy to find
It’s the Old Highway 89 campground. We loved it! www.campendium.com/old-highway-89

May I ask what time of the year did you go?
