Zion National Park WITHOUT the shuttle | Canyon Overlook, Northgate Peaks, & the Watchman Trail
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 июл 2024
- We visited Zion for the first time in 2018 and fell in love with the park’s gorgeous scenery. And we are so excited to be back and visit some of our favorites from our past trip, as well as some new spots!
UPDATE: As of May 28, 2021, you not longer need a shuttle permit to ride the shuttle, you just have to wait in line to ride it. We hear the line for the shuttle is around 2 hours on busy days, so we'd suggest that you arrive VERY early, take a bike to the trailheads instead, or do some of these alternate hikes to avoid the chaos.

How do you holster your camera on your backpack shoulder strap?
It's a Peak Design camera clip! It's the best! amzn.to/31P1jbC
We visited the week after 4th of July. No permits needed and the lines were not an issue when we went at 3:00 pm but it was HOT!! Our hotel recommended that we wait until after 3pm because it was 133 degrees so we took the Kolab route first. Also, we were so happy we passed by the little town of Virgin Utah on the way to the Kolab Reservoir and had a great lunch. It's 30 degrees cooler up there! There is a beautiful hidden scenic lookout at Lava Point.
How early is "early" please?
We always suggest arriving to the national parks right before or around sunrise.
WOW. The sunrise at Canyon Overlook gave me goosebumps. Can only imagine how much more beautiful it had to be in person! Wow wow wow!!
SO dang beautiful, even though we were very uncomfortably cold hahah. Nothing beats seeing the canyon light up during sunrise 😍
"National park and reserves are an integral aspect of intelligent use of natural resource. It is the course of wisdom to set aside an ample portion of our natural resources as national parks and reserves, thus ensuring that future generations may know the majesty of the earth as we know it today." Wonderful tour and... happy adventures. Cheers, Domenico.
Beautiful quote! We love the national parks and are grateful to have them to explore!
Thank you for highlighting the less traveled areas! Awesome job, as always!
Of course! We love getting to experience spots that aren't as popular, but still beautiful!
Thank you for the guides you've published. We're appreciating all the tips, and I can tell you've put a lot of work into them!
Thank you so much! Been working really hard to provide as much value as we possibly can!
I just went to Zion in early November and we followed much of your itinerary. WE LOVED IT! Thanks for always showing alternative places and stuff off the beaten path. Your travels have inspired many of ours and next, we cannot wait to plan our trip to Vancouver island. Appreciating you from Southern California !
That’s awesome! We’re glad you had a great trip! Thanks for letting us know and thanks for watching!
My wife and I visited Zion back in 2020 before the world locked down, and your video brought back so many lovely memories! Great filmography and editing! Loving it!
What an epic trip to take before everything changed! Thanks for the kind words on the video!
Seeing the sun come up and touch the top of the canyon is incredible! Another great adventure!
There is really no better feeling than seeing that! 😍
Love love love! Every time I go to Zion, I have a specific rock that I sit on for hours on the canyon overlook trail. It’s so good for the soul❤️
That is amazing! The view up there is breathtaking 😍
A + K, your videos are so engaging, inspiring, helpful and fun. What sets you apart from other travel couples on YT is that you both seem so genuine and real. I love it and appreciate it! Thanks for all you do. Wishing you great success!
Thank you so so much, this truly means the world! 😭💗
Mind blown!!!! 🤯🤯🤯 WOWZERS!!! They are back on a Monday already and folks they have delivered yet again! Zion National Park looks totally AWESOME!!!! Thank you so much for sharing...you have officially ended my Monday on a high note! May your socks ever be warm and dry. 🤩🤗🤯😍😁
Happy Monday! Excited to begin kicking off the work week with vlogs! And we definitely need the warm and dry socks in a couple videos 😂
My wife and I are over 60, but you guys ROCK ! We never miss your videos... We have a 42’ Tiffin Coach and will be Full Timing in the next year or so... Stay Safe and keep the great content coming...
Thank you both so much for watching! ❤️ And huge congrats on almost full timing!
Love the views, so picturesque
Zion is in my top 3 parks I have visited. Love the trails & views. Definitely would visit again.
It is up there for us too! Beauty around every corner!
Talk about a timely video. Thank you so much. I’m visiting in June and your videos have been so helpful. I’m excited!
We love when our videos are timely! 🙌🏼 Have a great time!
Wow the sunrise at the Canyon overlook was stunning!!!! Thank you for sharing those moments 👌👌
Seeing those canyon walls light up is 😍😍😍
Love your down to earth authenticity! Kudos to you both for making such engaging and informative videos. The framing of your videos and photos is wonderful. Thank you for sharing your travels with us!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words, Martin!
We enjoy just watching your journeys. Thank You
Thanks for watching Kim!
Zion Canyon Overlook Trail is the best bang for your buck trail in the country. My favorite.
We agree! Great effort to reward ratio!
I love the tunnels and the Checkerboard Mesa. Zion is great!
It's an incredible park!
You guys are a fun couple to watch- very engaging and real. Thank you for your reviews on the parks! They’re very helpful :)
Thank you for the kind words!
Great hikes!
Beautiful views!!
Thanks for taking us along 😎
Of course! We appreciate you watching!
That's great there's still so much to do there without the shuttle. We've been there in the past but there's still so much we want to go back and do!
We were nervous at first since we didn’t plan to do the shuttle, but ended up loving everything we did!
Beautiful sunrise @ the overlook! Thanks for sharing. I love your content
The best view for the little effort in the park! Thanks so much for watching!
Love the info about how to see the park without the shuttle!
Terrific series on Zion!
Thank you!
Wow the morning sun on the rocks was gorgeous! So cool to explore less popular areas of any park... staying away form crowds is always a priority for us too. The sunset hike on watchman trail looked amazing!
The crowds have been wild at the parks this year, starting early has paid off big time!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'll be visiting for the first time in a couple of weeks and I was so nervous figuring out all the logistics about getting into Zion. So grateful for this video to help calm my anxieties! :)
We are so glad it helped! ❤️
What a great video! Your cinematography was awesome.
Thank you so much!
You're the first RUclipsrs I've found that pronounce Zion correctly haha 😂 As a Utahn born and raised I appreciate you trying! 💕And yes we do pronounce it Zi-in, Hurricane is Hurri-kin, Kanab is Kuh-naab, and Panguitch is Payng-guitch, etc. 😂😂
We try really hard to get pronunciations right when we travel! Utah has some unique ones! 😂
Breathtaking.
😍😍😍
This gives us hope for us early risers this summer visiting Zion! Thanks for the amazing tips!!!!
Yes!!! It’ll be sooo worth it to get up early!
Also, the sunrise in the summer is even earlier, so you’ll have even more of an advantage. For us, it was like 7 AM, so it’s not as early and more crowded.
I'm planning a road trip through southern Utah and northern Arizona so these videos are very helpful and a beautiful preview of what awaits me 😊
It's even better in real life...so get ready!!! 😍
Love it! We just went to Zion in March, can’t wait to see what else you guys got up to while you were there. One of the best national parks for sure. 🤙🏼
We love it there and have a few more hikes to share!
I love watching you guys! I’m so excited to go explore Zion in May!
Awesome! We hope you have a great trip! If you need more help planning, check out our website where we have more Zion content as well as all the other 4 National Parks in Utah adventuresofaplusk.com/category/utah/
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Loved this video! Thanks for showing some of the less populated areas to give folks an idea of places to check out if they are wanted to avoid crowds and/or can’t get a shuttle ticket. We’re anxiously awaiting the next Zi-yun vlogs 😉
Absolutely! We really enjoyed visiting some of the lesser known spots! 🙌🏼
Great video!! Will be in Zion on Thursday! Thanks for the listing the travel guides going to check them out now!
Have an amazing time!!!
My favorite! Zion!
Stunning video! I paused several times to take a closer look! Wow! Love the bloopers too! “Spring break dance”🤣🤣 ~Cara
Hahahahah Adam did that “fake flashing people” spring break dance about 10x during our time there 😂😂
@@AdventuresofAplusK too funny!!! Great job guys!!!
I have watched sunrise at Grand Canyon multiple times and got goosebumps every time. This sunrise looks good as well. For how much I fell in love with the state of Utah, Zion Cameron is next on my list 😜
Hahahahah be careful, he IS a secret agent 😂😂😂 Grand Canyon sunrises are AMAZING!
The sunset at Grand Canyon is the most stunning thing I’ve ever seen in my life. The colors! 😍
awesome. I visited 13 years ago when i lived in San Diego
So fantastic!!!! I will be there for a one-day drive thru in June. Planning a return trip in September for 3 days. I am getting sooooo much great info from you guys. Thank you very much.
Visiting twice sounds amazing! Glad that we are able to help you with your trip!
This is perfect! We’re going to Zion, Bryce and Page AZ in 1 week! 😍 Thanks for the video and inspiration!
Yay! So happy it can help a bit! Bryce video won’t be out until next week, but hopefully the guide on our site can help (we just updated it after our most recent trip)!
I am really afraid of heights, and overlook trail freaked me out in a couple of places. I know they rate it as easy, but if you're afraid of heights, it's not. But the view was beautiful and I'm extremely happy I did it.
It definitely has some drop offs!
We were just at Zion, Moab, and Bryce, Great trip, Thanks for sharing
It’s an amazing part of the US! We could never get bored here!
Wow, wow, wow!!! Can’t wait for your tomorrow video of Zion, whenever that may be!!😊
We will have another on Thursday! 🙌🏼🎉
@@AdventuresofAplusK I’m doing a virtual happy dance!!! Lol😂
You two make the best traveling video's on RUclips ! Very informative!! A++++
Thanks, David! Thanks for watching!
웅장하고 아름답고
멋진 자이언 즐감하고감니다
I just started watching your channel. I truly enjoy it. You guys definitely make me miss traveling. Zion is my favorite National Park! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much Kelly! We are so glad to have you join our adventures. Zion is truly a special place!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Yes, it is special. I will actually be moving from Orlando to Las Vegas in June, so Zion will be closer to me and that means I get to visit more often than before. You guys stay safe and looking forward to your next vlog.
That is amazing! You'll be close to SO many epic places! The West rocks!
This video was amazing!! 🤩🤩
Thank you Pamela!
That's beautiful !
Such a gorgeous park!
About to make the trip next month. Great video for the info in this hard time. Many thanks.
We are so glad this helped! Have a great trip!
literally a perfect video. had all of the information i needed!
Wow, thank you! That makes us SO happy!
You do the best videos! Keep it up!
We really appreciate the kind words!
As a National Park Ranger I would love to post this to the official NPS Employees group page on Facebook. Trust me when I say that we love the idea of getting away from the shuttle areas! Exploring the Park like our forefathers before us. Plenty of Zion Rangers lurk in the group.
Hi Ranger Derek! We'd love if you shared it! We of course do not want to overpopulate the less popular areas, but we do know that Zion is experiencing crazy crowds and shuttle headaches, so we are hopeful this video can help others open their mind to other areas!
That sunrise was so bright and so beautiful how it lit up the gorgeous rock! After watching you hike back down in the sunlight, I noticed how some of that hike might be a little scary to do with only headlamps and phone flashlights! 😬 Another great video with so much beauty!
The sunrise was incredible! Nothing like seeing the canyon light up 😍😍 The hike is definitely not the easiest in the dark, but thankfully it’s quick and they have a lot of hand rails!
First, I've never been to ZION and I was just sitting here in awe of the entire video. I mean, wow! Gorgeous. Second, I've REALLY appreciated your videography. I'm just a rookie, so it's really cool to watch the different B-Roll shots you are taking - I love your work. You really got the right shots on the sandstone and mountain edges...they just popped in your footage. Great job as always! Thankful
Thank you SO much! 😭❤️ We have been trying really hard to improve all aspects of our videos, including the actual filming. So this means a lot!
Thanks for sharing you all video and adventure. We were there couple of months ago and did not go thru the Overlook cause it was over crowded, but definitely won't missed it next time.
We hope you’re able to check it out next time!
Love this channel!! ❤️
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you so much for this video and your time stamps! My BFF and I only have one day in Zion (like Lion but Zion ☺️) and we were thinking about just skipping The Narrows and Angels landing all together because we are going in June and that’s their most traveled month we’ve heard. Thanks for all of these ideas to do outside of the normal stuff!
We are so glad you found this helpful! Have an amazing time!
I just started watching you both over the last week to help plan my trip for Glacier this upcoming summer. Little did I know that yall have family in Houston (I'm from Houston) and Austin! Love watching yall, the content is amazing! Keep up the great work!
Woo, go Texas! And thank you so much for watching! You will LOVE Glacier! Not sure if you have heard, but the Going to the Sun Road now has a permit system, so make sure to plan ahead! I am not sure if it'll be as competitive as the Zion shuttle, but definitely don't want to miss that drive!
So stunning! Those hikes looked amazing. I bet you guys were exhausted afterwards though! 😂
Sooo tired! This was day 4 of 6 days filming nonstop, so we were extra exhausted 😅😅
One day......thanks for the video!
We hope you can make it there!
Love your videos - so informative and helpful ! And your adorable personalities .
We are so glad you find them informative and helpful! We really want to make them a resource for others hoping to explore these spots! ❤️
Absolutely. Your filming is spectacular but its those essential logistics you provide as you chat that can make or break a trip. For example, I had zero idea shuttle tickets must be purchased months in advance and sell out with “Taylor Swift” speed. Duh me. Already missed my window, so greatly appreciate your alternate hiking routes in Zion. Will consider your videos a “must see” for future trip planning.
This means a ton to us! Our main goal is to help others travel and while logistics aren't always exciting to talk about, they really can make or break a trip! We're sorry to hear you missed the shuttle tickets (you can try again 5 PM the night before!), but there is still SO much to see and do nearby (we have two more videos we posted after this one with more ideas too!). We hope you have a great time!
👍👍👍
We visited many of the same sites and loved Springdale! You seem very happy with your life style… I hope you truly are!
We definitely are! Very thankful to be able to do this!
We've been to Zion twice. The first time was in the late afternoon nearly 30 years ago. We were literally the only people there other than the rangers! Amazing! The second time was in high summer maybe 15 years ago. Never again due to the crowds. We have not been to the Kolob (spelling?) area. That looks gorgeous, and if we ever have to be there in the summer again, we will head there. Thanks you for showing us how nice that part of the park is!!!
Oh wow, what a contrast of visits! The park is definitely very busy, but we loved exploring some of the other areas and were able to find a bit of solitude! There is so much more to do than just the 5 or so popular hikes!
You guys are the best! Going out to Glacier National park in June, and have been watching your videos over them and many other parks!
Have the BEST time at Glacier! Still our #1 park!
@@AdventuresofAplusK do you know how much is open mid June at glacier? Couldn’t remember what time of year you guys went because I know some things are closed off in may and early June
We went early August and things had opened up a little later in 2020 due to snow (The Highline Trail had just opened a few days before). The Going-to-the-Sun Road may be open by then and you'll be able to do most of the things we did, but the Highline Trail may not be (the Loop is usually more accessible earlier in the summer). You do need a permit to drive the Going-to-the-Sun road this year, so make sure to plan ahead for that! We also hear the East side will be open, so you'll have more areas you can explore than we did!
@@AdventuresofAplusK thank you! Did not know we needed a permit for the going to the sun road. We are staying on the east side so it’s perfect that it will hopefully be open.
Wow we are at Zion too heading to Bryce then Arches. We did the Observation Point it was awesome. Love your videos! I can see how much work you put into them!
Have an amazing trip! And thank you so much!
Absolutely beautiful
That's correct! Zion like Lion! We were shocked when we learned we had been saying it wrong. But this is just the beginning of Utah pronunciation explanations in our videos lol! Turns out they say things differently here than we would...oops!
@@AdventuresofAplusK As a Utahn born and raised, I can confirm we say things differently, especially in rural Utah. 😂
Great video guys! I'm really enjoying your Utah series. It is such an amazing State! I hope you go to Canyonlands and Arches. I've never been to Zion, and what I was hearing about the crowds was turning me off, but your video has me wanting to go. I was under the impression you HAD to do the Shuttle to enter the park, but now I see you can drive your own vehicle and that's great. Thanks for clearing that up.
Glad we could clarify! It's only a small portion you need the shuttle for and unless you are dying to do Angels Landing or the Narrows (highly recommend the Narrows), you don't have to drive it! The crowds are bad mid-day, but early and late they are totally manageable!
Thank you for this video.
I'm going there on 4th of July weekend.
Have a great time!
Fun fun🙂
😄😄😄
You guys are great! More videos please 😁
Hahah thanks Tony! Two videos a week is about as much as we can humanly crank out! 💪🏼
Beautiful! It looked like you were visiting two different parks!
That is what it felt like! It was really cool to see the diverse views in the park!
What a beautiful part of the country
It’s so gorgeous!
I love you guys!
I leave in the morning for Zion with my two grandsons. I have been to Zion 4 times, best seen on a bike.
Have a great time! We have yet to explore on bikes
Really enjoyed the video! We’ve been to Zion several times; I never get tired of it! We will have to do the Northgate Trail the next time we’re there!
We are so glad Debra! What has been your favorite hike at the park?
@@AdventuresofAplusK I can’t choose between Angels Landing (which I had to mentally decide that I could do it) and the Narrows (hiking in the water in a beautiful, amazing slot canyon)!
The Narrows is sooo amazing! One of our all time favorite hiking experiences!
We drove the Kolob Canyon road. It was just beautiful.
We will have a video from there next week! LOVED it!
Kolob hikes are the best. No crowds..shhhh 😎
We loved both Kolob areas!
Keep it up guys!!
Thanks Ricky!
Thanks for this video. We will be there in a couple of weeks. We are both 70 and don't hike the long trails and we have our dog. I hope to walk on the Par us trail and take our dog. We won't be going on the tram either.
The Pa’rus trail is amazing! Our pup loved it!
National Geographic Quality. Hiked the Virgin River about 30+ years ago. Headed to the Black Hills in June; bumped into A+K RUclips videos researching the Black Hills where we will be in late June. Love following your adventures.
You're too kind Richard! Have the best time in the Black Hills, we LOVED it there!
I thought A+K had the best guide to the Black Hills I have seen.
Thank you so much, that means a ton to us!
We got the tunnel to ourselves in 2018. They gave us a baton to hand to the ranger on the opposite side meaning we were the last car through. There was an RV waiting to go through and he need the entire tunnel. I'm glad he was driving it and not me lol.
Ah nice! We would be scared to go in there with a huge RV! Definitely have to ride in the middle haha
I visited all 5 solo in May 2018, I must have just missed you guys
No way! We were there around Memorial Day that time!
@@AdventuresofAplusK i was at Arches on Memorial Day that year. So busy but I got in the park by 7am. Safe travels you 3
Hey, you are a super duper symphatic couple. Keep up the good work 🙂
All the best from Germany
Kai
Thanks and thanks for watching!
I see some of the scenes you have in your videos and I see wallpaper for phones:)))
Here comes 50K. 🎉🎉🎉
Zion is a photographer/videographers paradise! 😍 And eeeeek, so close! 🎉
I’ll keep my comment short for once. This is a great idea for a series on Zion. The park is so much more than just Angel’s Landing and The Narrows. Both are incredible spots but the whole park is jaw droopingly beautiful. Awesome job showcasing these other spots.
Never knew it was pronounced Zi -in and not Zi-on. I think i am still going to stick with Zi-on.
We really enjoy showing places that aren’t as popular, both in the NPs and outside of them. Lately we have found the crowds at popular spots just really makes the experience less fun for us. So it’s fun to share other options!
Who knew?!
Zion Cameron secret agent 😂😂😂 you're so cute Kathryn ☺
😂😂😂 I really struggled trying to pronounce it the correct way
Thankssssssssss !
Of course!
We plan to go in September. We’re going to follow all the tips to get tickets, but this eases my stress of the possibility of not winning the “shuttle lottery”. Good to see we can still have some nice views if we don’t get ‘em! Thx!
We’re so glad this could ease some stress! There is still so much to see and do without the shuttle! We have two more videos from Zion, one is a great Angels Landing replacement (higher up view and less sketchy) and the other is a fun Narrows replacement called Kanarra Falls that is outside of the park.
@@AdventuresofAplusK I’ll probably never get my wife up angels 😂, but the Narrows we’re really hoping for!!!!! Thx!
I enjoy your videos
Thank you so much for watching them Dennis!
If your looking for a great place to eat, the Thunderbird Restaurant has some great food and they are known for their pies(it’s still my favorite restaurant 4 years later). It’s super secluded and a beautiful drive there.
Ooo thanks for the tip! We will have to check it out next time we are near Zion!
If you are near Arches you should check out Goblin Valley State Park. Crazy wild landscape you can climb in over down up and around. Hidden gem in Utah!
We are heading there soon and can’t wait!
EPIC
😍😍😍
I always thought it was pronounced Zion not zi-in 😂 can’t wait to go there some time! The 6 mile trail is a little long for me but I may have to make a exception for this one love watching your videos!
You and us both lol! And thankfully none of these hikes were too hard!
I watch a lot of different RUclips channels and I can totally see how some of them get dislikes, but I honestly have no clue how anyone can give you two dislikes. Your videos are amazing in every way! #trolls🙄
It’s honestly one of the biggest mysteries to us why anyone would take the time downvote a video (and therefore downvoting someone’s hard work), unless it was violent or super inappropriate. Thank you so much for the kind words! ❤️
Thank you so much for the info, my family is going to visit the Zion National Park in June , but there’s no way that I can get a shuttle tickets, so have no clue where/ what route is car allowed, came across your video I’ve learned some things.👍
We are glad this helped! It’s still a lot of fun even without the shuttle!
That Taylor swift ticket reference ages well 😂
I’m riding a bike ...no worries about COVID passengers... plus it’s only 10 miles... that’s a warm up for me and my GF...69 years young
A bike is a great idea! If we had bikes we would’ve attempted that!
