After visiting Las Vegas a couple of times I realized the best feature is it's location and proximity to many National Parks that lie within every direction, the best way to visit Las Vegas is to grab a rental car and get out of the city... Within a few hours is Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Death Valley N.P., and many other amazing desert attractions like Lake Powell in southern Utah... So next time you fly to Las Vegas make sure you get a rental car and explore outside the city!
I just did Death Valley, Hoover Dam, Boulder City. I'm planning Zion and Grand Canyon for my next trip. Vegas is closer to Zion than Salt Lake City is.
It is really surprising what one year will do to the depth of water in Lake Mead's reservoir. I know it's telling, but Los Vegas has changed so much since I was last there, 50+ years ago. Time flies, when pursuing other lands. Thank you again! Obrigado novamente.
Hey buddy. I am watching this on my TV from my other channel World's Greatest Adventures. I really enjoy your editing. My friends and I went to Vegas in Jan for CES and we did this trip... until being stopped by a blizzard. It was before we were making long form travel videos, and it is what I wish I had made. It's really inspirational to see somebody making content like this. Keep it up. :)
Thank you, I really appreciate it. Sorry to hear about the blizzard though. I got hit with a blizzard near Flagstaff earlier this year too, which was pretty unnerving for someone used to Southern California weather!
Great video. I have done Las Vegas, Williams and the Grand Canyon, but with wife and kids we were always in a rush to get to our destination. Upcoming life changes will find me relocating to Kingman, AZ and I am looking forward to having more time to explore these areas and more. I think for anyone traveling the USA this is a great roadtrip to make as there is plenty of nature to see, quirky little shops/restaurants and it gives a good representation of the vastness of the USA.
As someone that's coming from far away to visit Las Vegas and Grand Canyon in three weeks time I can say that this video is so useful! Thank you very much and can't wait to jump to the next video!
Arriving at the Grand Canyon does actually take your breath away. While the video was exceptionally well done, seeing it in person is a bucket list item. Afterall, we are all just a compilation of memories over our lifetime.
My nephew and I did this back in October 2022 but we went from the canyon to Vegas. We stopped off in Williams and Kingman. What a journey, watching this video has brough back some memories. Thanks buddy 👍
My wife and I stayed in the Luxor and took a bus to the Grand Canyon in 2016 for our honeymoon. The AC on the bus was broken and it was 108 degrees so we didn't enjoy it as much. Thank you for your work
I have made that trip out of Vegas to the Canyon many times. It’s my favorite vacation spot. I have always taken Route 66 from Kingman to Williams where I stay and use as my base for travel to the Canyon. I have rode that railway to the Canyon several times. Thank you. I love the memories you brought back.
Hi! I found this video about a month ago and have watched it maybe 10 times, along with your other Grand Canyon videos. You have inspired me to go to the Grand Canyon for my birthday. We live in Las Vegas and will totally be doing the Route 66 path. Thank you for sharing and inspiring. New Subbie! :)
Wow! I enjoyed this video so much. I think it's my favorite. You're doing such a "grand" job with the footage, history and commentary. You aren't kidding about that high bridge across from the dam. The camera DOES NOT do it justice. Crazy high bridge. Saw the dam steered clear of the bridge. Great video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this fun and insightful video! I plan to take a family road trip soon and didn't know what stops to make so this video was super helpful. Continue traveling and doing what you do. You're awesome! :)
Mention of Kingman is always bittersweet for me. My parents got married there, it was on the way to relatives' place in AZ. They didn't get married where they lived in the SF Bay Area cuz they were a mixed race couple, so the marriage was illegal in CA. Kinda funny when you think of the typical perceptions of CA & AZ today. I need to make a Route 66 trip someday. I've put in more than a few miles over the years, but it was always under time constraints. Thanks for all the good stop-n-see ideas!
What a great video! I am from California and have been to both places many a times but always wondered what this route is actually like! Thanks for the fun video!
What a difference a year makes, Lake Mead rose 30 ft in just the last year! I got cheated out of my Grand Canyon vacation by the pandemic! While I was home I took a fall and could no longer travel! Thanks again for taking me places I can't go anymore!!
Enjoyed this. We were going to do this exact road trip (actually around same time that you filmed this) but had such a blast in Vegas that we were driving along and decided wife and kids were just too tired. Stopped for some food and gas and head on home. But plan to hit the road and explore these stops soon. Great tips and insights, cheers.
I want to thank you for this video you brought back a lot of good memories when me and my wife went there 1969 or 70 we had a beautiful time there. Thank you again for the video. That’s when I was stationed TRAVIS Air Force force base, California, Fairfield
What a great roadrip! I made a similar trip a few years ago but I didn't have the insight on these great attractions on the way. Looking forward to doing it again. I used to live in Henderson Nevada and drove to the east rim of the Grand Canyon where the Skywalk is located. That is another great, but shorter, road trip through Dolan Springs Arizona and the world's largest Joshua tree Forrest ( more than in Joshua Tree national park). Lots to see on that trip too. LOVE Kingman! One of my favorite places!
This is awesome, a geography lesson with some great views. Thanks. Bring back memories of my humble quest to find the origins of the creek I live next to. This wide creek travels about 11 miles through eastern Pennsylvania and feeds into the Lehigh River Pennsylvania which then the feeds into the great Delaware River which empties into the Atlantic Ocean near Lewes, Delaware and Henlopen State Park. I found my answer, an underground spring about 8.5 miles away. It was fun finding it, a meadow with a small forest next to a state road and a few homes in the countryside.
Wow, thats really cool. I did the same with the San Diego river once to see where it started, ended up finding a pretty cool monument there to a firefighting disaster.
About 10 years ago my brother and I were on a road trip from California to the Grand Canyon. We pulled off the interstate in Seligman and headed for the Snow Cap drive-in in search of refreshments. There we ran into a group of German tourists all riding rental Harley Davidson motorcycles on their tour of the Mother Road.
That’s awesome!! I’m leaving for Vegas soon and have rented a Harley already to do that very thing…strip, to Hoover dam, to west rim skywalk, to south rim, to Winslow AZ, back to the strip, should be fun and a lot of great riding!!
Man, we're chasing each other around the West! I just returned from a trip to the Prescott area. Took a quickie trip to the Grand Canyon, ate at one of the Tusayon restaurants, and drove thru old town Williams. On the way, hit Seligman, bought a Route 66 t-shirt and ate a cheeseburger, fries & Coke at Del Gadillo's. So I missed plenty of places to visit next trip! Yabba Dabba Doo!
@@SidetrackAdventures Not pushing the schedule, I overnighted near Goffs Schoolhouse each way, maximizing cheaper fuel in AZ. Idaho for a couple months next.
oooh, I did the tour where you go out on a pontoon boat at the base of the dam and I have pictures of them still building the bridge (was about half complete at the time)
me and my wife are going to Vegas next week and we're going to the Canyon can't every since as a kid watching the Brady Bunch Grand canyon episode I always wanted to go lol.
I wished I had taken my road trip to the Grand Canyon AFTER I saw your video. I missed a lot of great places. I'll have to go back now. Haha Great video.
Excellent video and very educational. Thank you for making this video. Will you include fees or ticket price and where we can purchase at the better price.❤👍
hi! i like your vids a lot! Ive watched many if not most of them! would be curious to see the level of the lake, with all the snow and rain in the last year?
Don’t know where to start 😮. My family went 2 summers from Kentucky to California covering nearly all of the West. I remember having breakfast in Flagstaff and next stop the Grand Canyon. I was really little and we were on Route 66 which was just mind blowing. My father was an engineer and we did the tour down to the enormous turbines in the Hoover Dam. Wow. I definitely want to check out all those places and museums in your trip. I have autism and when we got to Las Vegas I was shaking at night from being over stimulated by all the lights and people. My parents wanted to enjoy the night life and I successfully begged them to leave me alone in the hotel room. OMG I was so freaked out. Everything out there is so different. I loved 🥰 all the unique neon etc. along the way. It’s really sad that it’s gone because of a new highway 🛣️. I’m going to save this video and when I make my own extended trip out West I’ll be checking out all of the attractions in it. Thanks 🙏. 👍☮️🌞🩷
Another great video. I actually live in Vegas and have visited the Railroad Museum, but I have never heard of the Monster Museum. Guess its another thing to put on the list of sight seeing places around the valley. Also, have you tried the Skywalk? Its something I have been considering, but haven't visited yet.

I’m planning tondo this road trip at the end of may and I would like to know if a take the old Route 66 I lost all this stops from your video? And when you get to the Grand Canyon did you know where rim did you get? I hope you can help me… thanks in advance
Great video explanation!. Planning to go in July What is the closest side to see the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? Is it 280 miles from the strip or is there closer to being able to go and return to the strip on the same day?. Thanks , great work!
You could make it to Grand Canyon West a lot faster and do it in one day, but the views are much better at the South Rim. If you've never been before, I definitely recommend the South Rim.
Wow u must do some traveling my friend, i envy u big time as i have a lil van n am just starting to go on lil 3 days journeys, been going to the blue Mountains just an hours n half out of the Sydney CBD.- Heir in sydney we have the Warragamba Dam i think its the biggest on in Australia but not to sure but i no it was finished in 1960.
I highly recommend breakfast at the Coffee Cup in downtown Boulder City. It's a very popular place. I found the dam tour worthwhile, though it has shortened over the years. Note that the Tillman Bridge has walls high enough to block the view below. If one wants the bridge view, they've got to park and take the short walk, which I also found worthwhile. As always, love your content and style.
I didn't realize the walls were so high when we walked up, but when we drove across I was disappointed we couldn't see to the other side because of the walls. I'm sure its to help with wind or just to stop people from stopping to get a look. I'm glad they let you walk up.
@@SidetrackAdventures I suspect the high walls help prevent the probable numerous accidents that would take place from inattentive drivers distracted by the view
I’m doing this road trip but on the other direction, from South rim to Vegas. Thanks for this video with good advices and recommendations. “Women pee in Arizona, men pee in Nevada” lol
Thanks for the video. I am planning a trip in winter (~christmas) and worried if GC roads will be snow packed. how is the route from LV till Williams - is it flat? @11:26 - is Williams to GC rail an option to consider to avoid snow roads??
We filmed this around Christmas time and wouldn't have needed chains but if you want to be absolutely sure the train is probably best. It wasn't sold out so you could always wait till close to your trip to decide so you'll have a better idea of the weather.
@@SidetrackAdventures Is williams train station at an elevation where it will snow and require snow chains? I ask because I am renting a car and generally they don't allow chains - so, I was thinking of driving till williams (assuming no chains needed ever) and then switching to train for the last leg where chain could be needed. make sense?
@@samyvik2888 It snows a lot in Williams but its all interstate to get there so unless conditions are really bad you will probably not need chains, and if conditions are bad enough they just close the road anyway.
hi, I am from the UK, and have family in Alabama. I was thinking of visiting them and then doing a bucket list trip to Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. I have already had some tips, flying into Vegas, driving to Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon...I was hoping to do the visit and the drive in 7 days leave, Just wondering how many days to allocate, the best time of year to go, and how much time in each place? Can you give me some advice please.
Depending how much time you want to spend in Las Vegas, you can easily drive from Vegas to the Hoover Dam, spend a couple of hours there, then drive to the Grand Canyon in one day. If you are planning on doing some hikes in the Grand Canyon, give yourself a few days, but if you are only going for the views you can get to all the major South Rim points in a day easy. I'd recommend the spring or fall just to avoid the heat or possible snow/ice at the Grand Canyon.
hi @@SidetrackAdventures thank you for the information. Much appreciated. I guess I was planning to just use Las Vegas as a 'fly in' airport. So one way international flights from the UK, are really expensive, so I was thinking of a return flight from Mobile, or Pensecola, and flying back to there after domestic flights from Mobile to Las Vegas, and then back from Phoenix to Mobile, and then home to the UK. Do you think this is possible? Also I am assuming that 1 way car hire, is a thing, so drive from Vegas to Hoover Dam, to Kingman, stay over, drive to Grand canyon, stop over in Flagstaff or Sedona, and then last stop Phoenix, to get a flight back to Mobile. What do you think?
My mom said when she was going to Hoover Dam on a tour from Las Vegas the bus driver showed everybody a mountain range that had Lincoln's profile laying down. She was hoping to see it. Have you ever heard of this. Just wondering.
What time you started at the strip and what time you reached the south rim, did you stay over night with all those stops and then head to the GC. next day?
@@SidetrackAdventures so how did you film all that? I was like wow all that under 5 hours don't seems bad lol...we are a fly of 4 with 2 kids 13/7 yo..we plan on driving from the strip to GC, what stops would you recommed so we don't reach way late in the night near GC...thanks.
Can you tell me how long i should plan to land in vegas, make a leisurely trip to the grand canyon and return to vegas in time to fly home? Hopefully getting a night or two in on the vegas strip? We will have 3 chilren in tow so not nedi g to gamble just see the sights in vegas
It's about a 4 hour drive to the South Rim from Las Vegas, so it's going to be rough to drive back and forth in one day. Grand Canyon West is only a couple of hours away so that might work better for you. It's not the National Park but you still get some great views plus there is the skywalk.
@@tanya41277 That's what I'd probably do. Williams isn't far and has quite a few hotels. There are some right outside the park too, and of course a few inside if you can get a reservation.
This is a great tour. This is one where we could rent our own car and do the route you went over? Sorry if you said, but how long would this tour take from beginning to ending?
Just to let you know the dam was full all the way up until the 2000 and you could take a paddle boat right up to the damn and get off and see the damn and visitor center
Wrong direction LV I15 through the Virgin River to St George then Ut 59-Az 389to Fredonia AZ/ Kanab Ut US89A to the north rim or on past Lees Ferry to US 89 to Cameron AZ AZ64 to south rim or alt US89 from Kanab thru Page to Cameron and the s rim. Longer but much more awesome scenery. Canyons you drive thru or cross Mesas you climb descend or just pass by.

OMG! I did my research but your comment confirms what I thought. I did get a rental haha. So, I'll do that ❤
Yes! And if you don't want to go that far, Valley of Fire (or, even closer, Red Rock Canyon) and Mt. Charleston are practically around the block!

Awesomeness ❤ thank you!
Great video!
THANK YOU..VERY COOL
Thank you too!
I’m doing this road trip but on the other direction, from South rim to Vegas. Thanks for this video with good advices and recommendations. “Women pee in Arizona, men pee in Nevada” lol
No problem, glad I can help!
Great video. Great information
The first time I drove from the LA area through AZ I40 was not complete from Kingman to Seligman and I was fortunate enough to drive US 66 😢
Fabulous video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
nice video thanks for sharing
Thanks for the video. I am planning a trip in winter (~christmas) and worried if GC roads will be snow packed. how is the route from LV till Williams - is it flat? @11:26 - is Williams to GC rail an option to consider to avoid snow roads??
We filmed this around Christmas time and wouldn't have needed chains but if you want to be absolutely sure the train is probably best. It wasn't sold out so you could always wait till close to your trip to decide so you'll have a better idea of the weather.
@@SidetrackAdventures thank you!
I'd recommend the spring or fall just to avoid the heat or possible snow/ice at the Grand Canyon.
hi @@SidetrackAdventures
thank you for the information.
Interesting and amazing location 👌 subscribing your channel ❤️
Thank you!
My mom said when she was going to Hoover Dam on a tour from Las Vegas the bus driver showed everybody a mountain range that had Lincoln's profile laying down. She was hoping to see it. Have you ever heard of this. Just wondering.
I don't know of one in Nevada but I know of one in Texas.
Those birds are raptor birds Great video
At 13:42 you were immediately greeted by the BUTT of an ELK!
😀😃🤣😅😆
What time you started at the strip and what time you reached the south rim, did you stay over night with all those stops and then head to the GC. next day?
We started at the strip in the morning. Without stopping to film it takes about 4 1/2 hours.
Nice! Thank you!
Nice video
Thank you!
That was awesome
Thank you.
@SidetrackAdventures thank you. I was thinking maybe stay a night in a hotel near the south rim and make a 2 day trip of it. I appreciate your reply
Without any stops the drive would take about 4 1/2 hours.
@@SidetrackAdventures including hoover dam? google map shows 7 hour drive
In
Driving from LA to Las Vegas was really something.
That was cool
Im planning to do this in a day. Is it enough time? What time should I leave vegas? 6am
A day is enough time. It's about a 4 hour drive without stops so you don't need to leave super early.
@@SidetrackAdventures I just saw that the west side is closer. Will probably do that instead. Thanks
Is there any tickets or parking fee to visit Hoover dam and canyon, if yes, how much?
Use google...
Can I make all the same stops going from Williams to LV??
Yes.
How long does the trip take with the stops described here?
Maybe about 8-10 hours. It just depends how much time you spend at each stop.
@@SidetrackAdventures8-10 hours to get there? Then you have the 4.5 hour drive back correct?
Love your videos, but I just don’t understand why you bring the music up so loud.
Great
5:57 Wow! ......scary.
Just to let you know the dam was full all the way up until the 2000 and you could take a paddle boat right up to the damn and get off and see the damn and visitor center
Cool video. Just taking notes by watxhing good videos. Trting to get my channel to look good with good content. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for the kind words.
Boulder is a side trip now, like Kingman. Not a lost missed to bypass these old relics.
