My hubby and I hiked this back in 2010. It was fun to see what has changed since then. The "puddle" wasn't quite that big/deep when we visited. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :)
I was backpacking out to the primitive campsite last week and couldn't make it down the section at 10:15. Too slick with a 30ish pound pack on. Had to hike back out the way I came! Definitely more challenging than what a video can show. Funny thing is the easiest part of the trail is on the other side of that drop. The primitive trail is pretty amazing though. Much easier to hike in the summer months when your shoes have some more grip on that rock. You absolutely need extra traction (yaktrax, etc.) in the winter. Thanks for posting and confirming I'm not totally crazy for not making it down that bit! haha
@@AdventuresofAplusK yea we went counter clockwise and enjoyed the fin scrambling :) where are you off to next? valley of the gods is amazing and just a few hours from Moab!
100% going to have to go back here again. Went in 2004 and actually filmed it but that was with what now feels like an antiquated video camera and the footage looks NOOOOTHING like what I'm seeing here. Arches is just amazing. You all must have had an amazing time with all the parks you hit up..!
We did this same trail recently, it was amazing! I was shocked that it really wasnt well marked after getting past landscape! Thank goodness for the cairns!
Any other favorite areas from the trip Matt?! It's always so fun learning from people what their favorite experiences are so can add them to the list! 😊
One of my top 5 favorite trails and one feels quite accomplished after finishing it. I’ve hiked it twice, 5 years apart. The first time, I scurried on the rocks around the big puddle (not sure how!). The second time, it was dry so much easier 😉
Looks like it was an amazing hike! We were just out west but didn't make our way to Arches! You two might have just given us a reason to come back! 😊 🌵
Yay! I was there back in October and Devil’s Garden was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Due to a time limit I only went as far as Double O arch. Nice to see the rest of the loop.
We felt so cheesy and deep with that comment, but it's something we couldn't stop talking about when hiking around. The squishy foot was surprisingly very nice lol! It gets HOT there and it wasn't even the summer!
Nice video! Thanks for sharing your adventures. Arches National Park is by far one of my favorite parks. I have visited this park many times and love it every time.
I really enjoy your videos. They are very well done and you really tell the whole story about wherever you are visiting. We went to Arches for the first time last September and it immediately became one of our favorite National Parks. I look forward to your upcoming adventures!
Knowing how hot it gets there in the summer, it seems crazy that here's that amount of deer. We didn't see any in the summer so were surprised to see them in this video! Very cool to see what was past the Private Arch as in the summer we just couldn't cope with the heat to go onto the trickier trail. When you got to the huge puddle, I couldn't work out why Adam was struggling so much on the rock, the camera made it look really flat, then when you angle switched to show Kathryn coming across, I could see why it was so difficult! 🤣 Really hope you make it back to do the Fiery Furnace in the future. 🔥 Very excited to see what's in the Needles. 🙌
The mornings were pretty chilly, so we got lucky! And as we edited this we were like "this puddle part does NOT look sketchy" (as sketchy as it felt as we kept sliding trying to cross it), but we are glad the other angle demonstrated it better haha. We saw some people basically run across and I think that was key to not slipping and falling into the water. But we were too nervous! And the Needles was SO awesome, cannot wait to share!
Beautiful. The green trees against the orange rock, with the blue sky. We last visited Arches several years ago. We turned around at Landscape. I'm not sure the primitive trail even existed then. If so, I'm sorry I missed it.
Love the mix of colors with the oranges, greens, and blues! And Landscape is pretty awesome on its own, but the journey to the rest is so fun! We hope you can go back and try it 😄
Another great video...thank you guys! Also, putting Moab Garage Co on my list to visit during my upcoming trip there - that ice cream looked sooo good! :)
Have been to Arches a couple of times and yes, it is still amazing, every time again. We are planning a trip for next year, when things are back to normal, and then I would like to do this trail which we haven't done yet. Thank you for the tip.
Binge watching you guys!! My hubby and I are doing a 4 week Glacier to Grand Canyon trip mostly down Hiiway 89. We just completed South Dakota, and used so many of your tips!! Many thanks. 👍
Sounds awesome! Going to glacier in mid June but unfortunately the weather has been bad and nothing seems to be open! Going to Yellowstone after glacier though so looking forward to it!
I just finished this hike a couple hours ago. My husband and I also went clockwise. It was challenging, exciting and a few sketchy in spots. I probably should have walked thru the puddle but we decided to skirt the edge😳. Thanks for some great videos👍💝.
You guys are awesome! Love your videos! Thanks you for always doing research and adding interesting info. We are heading to Moab in a couple weeks. Thanks for all the info.
Every night....time for bed. Oh no wait, a new A+K video to watch!!! Going to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone this weekend, wish I would run into you guys! I plan to do a lot of Colorado parks in June also :)
Just went here at the beginning of may and it was already hitting 95! We also did Bryce, Zion and Death Valley. So amazing, next time we will have to do this hike! We only did a few since we were at Arches just one day. Thanks for the vid.
Devil's Garden trail looks awesome. Definitely one we'll do! I love the rock scrambling... did a decent amount of that on parts of the Colorado Trail. You need some trekking poles! But some wet feet isn't a biggie, and the Altra's dry quick.
Another terrific video. I missed out on the Devil's Garden in March-you just can't do it all in a week! I'm looking forward to your Needles video, I camped at the Hamburger Rock site. Based on your vids, I decided to download the All Trails app, the free version, but still amazing. Enjoy your journeys:)
I re-watched this a couple of times in preparation. I did this today, and I went counter clockwise, because I thought going up the slickrock at 10:15 would be easier than going down. Challenging, but amazing. I especially enjoyed Navajo Arch. Unfortunately, I did witness a 60 year old woman fall into a crevice at the 4:53 spot where Adam is climbing in your video. She was conscious, and thankfully an EMT and a nurse heard the pleas for help and were able to tend to her while NPS rescue teams were en route. I'm planning to brush up on my first aid skills and be better prepared.
We saw Landscape Arch when we were there years ago and it was amazing. Would love to do the rest of that hike one day as well. Our visit to Arches we mostly did short and easy hikes as we were with my dad but anything you see there is amazing! Sorry you guys had to go through the water but I agree, do it safely. I always have to remind my children they don't have to try to take the harder trail haha!
You guys are so honest, enthusiastic, and humble along with entertaining. That’s a hard feat to accomplish. Definitely old school in that sense even though you handle new school technology so well. Your photography and filming skills are exceptional. We’re going to Arches in June after the drive down 128 to Moab. Unfortunately it will likely be in the afternoon when it’s busier and hotter but we’ll try and be adventurous even though we both have some back and balance issues. Probably just take the easier trails and attempt maybe to climb a few easier rocks to get near arches and enjoy some inviting views. Safe travels!
Thank you so much for the kind words Mark! It’ll still be a fun trip even if it is a bit hot. If you have access to a pool that’ll make it even better!
Loved it and can't wait to do this in 2 weeks. You made it look so easy and I feel so much better about this trail now. We won't be doing the primative loop but will do Double O out and back with the side arches that you did which I think will be 6 miles give or take. And after one of your other Moab videos plus this one I can't wait to try the ice cream and coffee at Garage Co. You guys are amazing!
Doing that stretch will be awesome on its own! It's not bad at all and tons of fun to see the arches. And definitely swing by Moab Garage Co! We have eaten there a couple times and their breakfast burritos looked so good too!
That stinky puddle was there the last time I went but may have been a bit smaller. It may not be the safest option but we each got a running start and “ran” around the left edge of it and had enough momentum to not splat in the water. Grippy shoes and quick feet can get it done 😂😂😂
Ugh the hit and run has been such a massive headache 😭😭 So thankful it didn’t ruin the build though! And that we have a really good deductible for these types of situations.
Climbing down the sheer rock is great on sunny days ... I went when it drizzled and the boulders were slippery with sand .... Just getting to the double O was tough.
I really enjoyed this hike albeit I was a little nervous initially but glad I stayed the extra day in Moab and allowed myself the opportunity. I thought Moab was a fun laid back place too so was happy to stay the extra night but it did cost me some $$. That's what you get when you 'wing it' on a roadtrip though. Missed out on Canyonlands as was heading to Durango but will be back
We were nervous too! And it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be thankfully (scrambling can freak me out). Moab is expensive to stay! We had to get a hotel for a couple nights due to heat and had to drive up to Grand Junction to get an affordable one
@@AdventuresofAplusK Nah it was OK but certainly remember the steep bit! I was on a solo trip so was maybe overthinking it. Eventually tagged along with a group so felt a bit calmer 😀 I turned up late at Moab on a Thursday night after a long day driving (well for a person from the UK anyway) from Page via Horseshoe Bend, Monument Valley and a lot of the hotels were full so had to take what I could and was too tired to go searching for alternatives. Grand Junction? I though just out of town was too far out!
Well, you guys earned that ice cream! That video was great; I think we did just part of that hike quite a few years ago. I can't wait to see Needles video! Can you share what sunglasses you are wearing? Does it cut down on the glare? Thanks!
We are very excited to share the Needles! It was a huge highlight of the Moab area! And I have Oakley Forehand sunglasses. I got them 5-6 years ago and they no longer sell them, but I was able to get polarized lenses for them a few years back and it helps a ton with glare, mostly with water.
@@AdventuresofAplusK I forgot to mention that I got a kick out of your comment about not getting "hoodooed out" or "arched out". That was perfect, because that is exactly how we feel - we're not "Utah red rocked out" yet!
It was a big concern! We will say we were excited to see some green scenery and feel crisp air again when we left Utah (the rising heat was getting to be tough) but we LOVED Utah and had so much fun!
This was a wonderful series (UT parks). Breathtaking. To think that our lifespans are milliseconds in a geological clock and some of the arches collapsed only a few years ago is crazy!! The lighting in your UT series was fantastic. You did mention one hike was at 5:30AM (in a previous video); what were the other times? And what month was this recorded? Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! The arches really put into perspective how wild this earth is and how we are just a tiny speck! This was recorded end of April and we started basically every video around 6:00 AM or so when the sun started to rise and filmed most of them throughout the entire day.
Greetings A+K, a group of us are going to Arches next October and I was wondering if you two remember how far it was from the trailhead to Private arch? I was thinking hiking to there and turning around to go back might be not too long as oppose to hiking the entire loop. Thanks for your videos.
Great video! The trail section at 12: 12 seems quite dangerous no? I have no concerns about the walking but I am afraid of weight. Does the video make it more perilous that it seems? Thanks.
The water section? It wasn't dangerous unless you went on the rock slope on the side of it because it was slippery. We didn't feel comfortable trying to skirt around water so we just went through the water. Other than that there weren't any "sketchy" or dangerous parts on the trail, at least to us. Some people have different levels of dangerous, though. Thanks and thanks for watching
With all of the hiking and terrain you guys encounter, how many brands of hiking shoes have you tried out? (I’ve seen your gear list) if you haven’t tried Inov-8, my wife and I love them. We have their regular Roclite shoes which we hike/run in and their trail boots which are waterproof and we wore all the way up Kilimanjaro this year. Also they look awesome 🔥📈. #notasponsor 😂
We have only tried a couple brands, but love the ones we have now. I have foot issues, so I have to stick to wider shoes and love my Lowas. Thanks for the tip!
I have watched many videos of yours. Good job. I have a question want to ask Kathlyn while ago: what shade of lipstick do you wear? You look beautiful.
Wow those trails are awesome!!!!, normally I do short trails, but when you say you do a 5 hrs, 8 hrs trail , how do you do bathroom breaks?, after driking all that water?……
Sometimes we have to find a quiet secluded area away from water sources to go number 1. But sometimes in National Parks the trails have toilets along them
You two made a deal with the devil....SOMEthing. Indefatigable and no blisters on your feet. No Indiana Jones hats to block the sun. I'm telling you, it just ain't natural. Looking forward to the Needles. Not too many venture that wsy. They should have issued you Junior Ranger badges.
Superb job filming this hike. Great balance between highlighting the features and showing the difficulties and differences of the terrain that will be encountered. I have only ever made it to Landscape Arch but have the entire loop on the itinerary for next year. A few questions if you don’t mind. I see that clockwise is typically recommended. How much more difficult would it be to go counterclockwise? Do you recall if one side of the loop is more shaded than the other? Just trying to be extra prepared/cautious since our timeframe is late June.
Thank you Michael! We feel like a lot of people recommended counterclockwise to beat crowds, but we are still kind of confused about this. The busiest spots were on the left side of the loop since that’s the “easier” part and has all of the arches, so that’s why we decided to go clockwise, so we could avoid crowds for those spots. Going counterclockwise would have you visiting those spots at the end of your hike, which seems like it would be busier? Either way would work though and both are about equally unshaded. Our biggest tip, as always but especially in the summer, is start early! Not just for crowds, but the heat as well. The sunrise lighting also was very pretty on this hike!
@@AdventuresofAplusK early morning is definitely key. We were at the Vermillion Cliffs in mid-August for hiking. We bought reflective hiking umbrellas and they were pretty clutch. I would definitely recommend them. Even by 10:30(ish) sun was brutal. As always, appreciate the insight and love that you take the time to respond.
I cheated myself when I was here on September 26, 2013. My older cell phone camera did not get into "airplane mode" easily, or maybe I was ignorant of it. And so my cell phone battery depleted. I was also very tired from having hiked to the Delicate Arch earlier in the day, and so I elected to "come back some day", which never materialized.
Did you start from the beginning of their videos? They have been to so many awesome places! Opened our eyes to places we had no idea we wanted to visit.
@@AdventuresofAplusK yeah they have been to so many places! I started with their van life(just like I did with you guys) and now I am watching their Antarctica vlogs but I probably should have started with that because it’s so cool!
We hiked Devil's Garden trail and photographed Wall Arch just hours (Aug. 3 2008 @11:46am) before it fell during the night on August 4, 2008. In my photo, I see several angry faces in the rock as though the rocks knew it was about to collapse. Truth!!! I will send you a photo if you give me your email.

Thank you so much for the kind words Mark! It’ll still be a fun trip even if it is a bit hot. If you have access to a pool that’ll make it even better!
@@AdventuresofAplusK or Ice Cream lol. You too
This is crazy!
Those fins are WILD!
Lovely vid as usual. Is this just too easy for you 2 now? 😂 garage co. was so tasty when we got it as well. Yum. Looking forward to the Needles vid.
Lol if only! 😂 But we definitely have gotten into more of a groove filming, which is good!
Good work love your videos..
Thank you Jody!
Fantastic you completed the loop.
I got lost many times so I didn't do the primitive side because of rain.
That’s smart! Those rocks can be slick in the rain!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I enjoy all your videos. Thank you. They helped me plan.
That stinky puddle was there the last time I went but may have been a bit smaller. It may not be the safest option but we each got a running start and “ran” around the left edge of it and had enough momentum to not splat in the water. Grippy shoes and quick feet can get it done 😂😂😂
We saw some people doing that! I’m too scared of slipping to attempt it haha
We need Adventures of A+K merch! I feel so bad for the hit on the van! It's so good it didn't ruin the build.
Ugh the hit and run has been such a massive headache 😭😭 So thankful it didn’t ruin the build though! And that we have a really good deductible for these types of situations.
Great video!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Climbing down the sheer rock is great on sunny days ... I went when it drizzled and the boulders were slippery with sand .... Just getting to the double O was tough.
Yeah, this hike would not be very safe or fun if it has rained.
Yeah, a cataclysmic plasma event can do that overnight. 😉 Awesome vid.
Done it barefoot, in the snow and in the dark. A favorite for sure ☺️
Wow, impressive!
When you sleep for free every night, you'll drive far for a cheaper place haha!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Very valid point!
well done! thank you
❤️🤙
Next time, try checking out Crystal's Cakes and Cones because they serve Farr's Ice Cream (Ogden, UT), which is second to none! Cheers!
Thanks so much for the ice cream tip!
Puddle jumping!!!
It surprisingly felt very nice!
Beautiful light, wow! What time did you start the trail?
It’s crazy to think how long these rock formations have been around but you gotta get there to see ASAP because they could collapse.
You never know how long they’ll be there, it’s wild!
Greetings A+K, a group of us are going to Arches next October and I was wondering if you two remember how far it was from the trailhead to Private arch? I was thinking hiking to there and turning around to go back might be not too long as oppose to hiking the entire loop. Thanks for your videos.
Hi! I would check out alltrails.com. They have lots of trail info!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Hi Bonnie! Thank you so much! I wear Revlon Color Stay in the color "backstage." It pretty much stays on all day!
Wow! No people! When we hiked this trail in late October one year it was very busy. What month are you hiking?
This was filmed in May '21
Wow those trails are awesome!!!!, normally I do short trails, but when you say you do a 5 hrs, 8 hrs trail , how do you do bathroom breaks?, after driking all that water?……
Sometimes we have to find a quiet secluded area away from water sources to go number 1. But sometimes in National Parks the trails have toilets along them
Thanks for answering. Wish me luck, going to Utah next week and I want to do as many trails as I can. Love your videos
Hahahaha that vampire sunscreen really works wonders! Even if it makes us look hideous! The Needles is the BEST! Can't wait to share!
@@AdventuresofAplusK What's the product called? If it works, Imma buy some!
No other humans😅😅
Is it fairly easy to follow the markers or do you really need to have it downloaded?
The markers are easy to follow most of the time, but we really like having downloaded maps, as we did see a few folks get turned around.
🖐🖐🖐🖐🖐
👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Adam what shoes are you wearing?
Hi Mike! I wear Altra Superior trail running shoes: amzn.to/3t51ZFN
The cell phone battery draining is the worst! We like to carry a portable charge anytime we hike just in case.
Do you guys watch Kara and Nate(to be more specific the full time travelers Kara and Nate)?
We do! They inspired us to start our channel 2.5 years ago!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I just started watching them on Saturday and they are already one of my favorites(you guys still being my number one of course)!
So this is what Alex Smith is doing during his retirement from the NFL.
A broken leg can’t stop me from hiking 😜
Love your guys content btw. Keep it up. But just wondering, do you get alot of "hey you look like Alex Smith from people?
Thank you! And I think I got it once before. I will 100% take it, he is a bad ass!
Who is alex smithe
We hiked Devil's Garden trail and photographed Wall Arch just hours (Aug. 3 2008 @11:46am) before it fell during the night on August 4, 2008. In my photo, I see several angry faces in the rock as though the rocks knew it was about to collapse. Truth!!! I will send you a photo if you give me your email.
Oh wow!
