Wow Randy, absolutely amazing video. It reminded me of Psalm 50:2 : "Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth." Thank you again Randy and to your team for providing such viewing enjoyment... Robin :-)
What an amazing hike! Thanks so much for virtually taking me along…this one wouldn’t be for me. I totally was in awe of the views from inside the slot canyon. As you mentioned, you really had ideal conditions! Thanks again and take care always.
I found it interesting how Charlie moved from Coeur D'Alene to St. George and be happy with his decision. Coeur D'Alene is amazing. I read somewhere that St. George is considered one of the ideal geographic places to live in terms of National Parks, Monuments, and National Forests concentrated within close relative proximity.
Magical slot canyon! Getting to the slots from the parking lot can be brutal on a hot day. Randy hiking this area in October is the more cooler time to do this. Randy and his group is such a splendid team. A clear sky day the colors come alive on the rock formations in the slot canyon with the sun light. Bucket list of the best hikes in America or anyone who will soon make a bucket list of the best hikes in America. I m in awe in wondering what Randy has in store to show what hikes on left on his bucket list. We and many others are eager to continually watch Randy, family and friends on their adventure.
Most people never get the experience of walking a slot canyon. Thanks for sharing this amazing natural wonder with everyone. Keep up the great videos and love the new camera! John and Bev
Absolutely a great video - really captures the essence of these two slot canyons. October is a great time to do this hike. For the latest conditions, stop in the County tourism office in Kanab (on the main street). They can update on the status of the chockstone in WirePass. Last time were there a nice ladder was secured to the rock. This is probably one of the best slot canyon experiences that does not require a lot of expertise and is not difficult to get to. As Charlie says - don't go in the slot canyons if there is rain in the forecast. Thanks again for the awesome video! If I could get my extended family to move to St George, I think I would.
Appreciate the kind words! Glad you have experienced this amazing place and have enjoyed the southern section of Utah. Good taste! Heard housing prices are skyrocketing in S. George now due to the popularity of the location.
I did this hike as a backpack back in May(2021). The best section is the last mile before you get to the confluence with Paria Canyon. It should be on everyone's bucket list. There is another bigger rockfall further down the canyon. Thanks for this amazing video! Yet another reason why the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the best place to hike.
Great comment, Mike! Yes, totally remember that section just outside Paria. In 2020 my wife and hike hiked Paria, took a right and traveled about a mile into that area. Stunning indeed!
Wow, I was there in Mid May 2021 and have a picture of that ladder when it was still in Wire Pass ! Amazing to see it wedge up that high further down into Buckskin. And it was completely dry in there when we hiked.
Absolutely breathtaking. Now I’ve heard that the Wire Pass is one where you have to have a four by four in order to access it, is that true? I’ve been wanting to do this but scared of doing it alone for sure. Glad you all enjoyed! 😊👀
Hi Jillian, I've been out to Wire Pass twice - the first time with a conventional car. If there hasn't been rain, you should be fine on this road. Might be good to hike this one with a buddy!
I did Buckskin Gulch solo in the 90’s. The water was cold then and I got cramps . It is an awesome place and one needs to be prepared going in there a little more than other places. Really great shots you did with the camera on the pole.
Randy, If there is a slot canyon, we expect you will hike it! Love the interview with Charlie. The 360-Cam really adds to this video. Petroglyphs in a slot canyon . . . dangerous art. The colors you shared are amazing. THANK YOU FOR TAKING US ALONG, . . . Mike
Fabulous hike once more. It is so enjoyable following through some of these amazing locations. It is a shame that rental vehicles cannot reach some of these trailheads but there is so much inspiration you are providing that we can reach. I am making a list of the possible for my next visit. Thanks and have a great week.
I’m impressed! Great camera work. I’ve been meaning to get down there for some time. I heard there’s a daredevil down climb short cut. I would love to chat with you about it before I get down there. If I can. Again, very well done, music too!
Hey Karl, appreciate that! Enjoying the 360 cam... thanks for introducing me to it! Yeah, busy this week, but give me a call anytime after and we'll talk!
Your unofficial guide was really cool, by the way! This 360 camera worked really well in the slot canyons. You got some really amazing footage from it. It looked like a really fun hike for all you guys! Thanks for sharing, brother.
Yeah, I use a 10 and 3 foot "disappearing" selfie-stick - pretty amazing toy! I listed both of them and the camera in the video description area. Enjoy your weekend!
Hey Gary, no problems in this one. However, the couple really tight ones we did in Escalante (spooky, peek-a-boo) brought on some mild claustrophobic feelings.

We hiked Wire Pass and part of Buckskin Gulch Mid Sept 2021. At that time that ladder was at the drop off. So that ladder got washed away in a storm after we went and before you came a month later. That ladder was in the beginning of Wire Pass so it made it a long ways to get that far down Buckskin. We also turned right into Buckskin after exiting Wire Pass but ran into water right away. So we reversed and went left and it was dry. I expected it to be dry all the way to the other entrance into Buckskin along Rock Valley Road.

Charlie resembles every lone senior man on the flip side of middle age I encounter on the trail. They wear khakis pants, a brimmed hat, sunglasses, hiking boots, and use ski poles. Great adventure to hike the slot Canyon
One of the best in the USA. East to reach as well.
Was here in June, 2021. I can’t believe what happened to that ladder. I thought it was pretty solid!
Interesting.. . Really illustrates the force of the water rushing through the canyon. Glad you experienced this gem!
We were there on may , 2021. There was ladder. Yes it was solid
Hoo-Boy! Wire pass to Buckskin Gulch - this is something I've always want to do! I was so near it during my last trip to the area but alas, the usual, time constraints. Awesome hike! Was wondering if you could do the full hike then camp and come back the next day? Is there a camp spot that would be allowed?
Yeah, people do camp in the canyon - either your idea or straight through with another car waiting for the return trip. There are some places (one seen at the end of this video) where the ground is significantly elevated. I am almost 100% positive you will need to secure a permit if you camp.
No camping allowed in Buckskin Gulch, only in Paria Canyon. A permit is required, and hard to get, for overnight camping in Paria Canyon.

Whoa - incredibly beautiful! But slot canyons give me the heebie jeebies! 😂
Thankfully, this one wan't too narrow for long stretch (unlike the ones we did a couple years ago at Escalante).
Is this something we can do in like a half day? is it worth it if the time is limited?
It really depends how deep into the canyon you wish to go. If you move, you should be able to enjoy this location in a half day.
Wow what a spectacular hike! What kind of snake was that? I think that might have been where I turned around ;o
haha! Yeah, not sure on the species. It was rather small, think it was a baby.
